Lego Space "Small" sets
The small sets were slightly larger than the mini-sets and were started earlier than the mini-sets as well. The sets numbered in the 682x range and expanded to the 683x range in the 1990s.

1. 6821: Shovel Buggy
(1980) The first of the small sets which was released only two years after the introduction of the space theme.

2. 6822: Space Digger
(1981) This set had the red minifig (there were only white and red before 1982).

3. 6823: Surface Transport
(1983) There were only 2 sets with the newly introduced yellow minifig in 1982. This was the first small set with the yellow minifig.

(1997) Interestingly, the second UFO set was assigned a number that filled in the previous gap. One has to wonder if there was an Futuron set in that slot.

18. 6837: Cosmic Creeper
(1998) The Insectoids small set. 6837 was the last small set made by Lego for the space theme before the new millenium. 6841 numbers and onwards were reserved for the "smallest medium" sets as opposed to the smal sets that were part of this list. 6838 and 6839 have never been assigned and are the only numbers left in the range that're unused.
