1. 850: Fork-Lift Truck
One of the first Technic sets released, in 1977, and also the first Technic set I had as a kid aged 16. It introduced a handful of new parts which were used with regular System bricks to create sophisticated mechanisms, in this case steering and the rack-and-pinion fork-lift.
The set was released a year later in the USA with set number 950.

2. 8843: Fork-Lift Truck
Eight years after the first fork-lift, this one was released in 1985 and featured pneumatics, which were new that year. The fork-lift mechanism was operated by a large pneumatic cylinder, which was larger than those used today which had only one air inlet to 'suck' and 'blow'. Consequently it didn't work too well.

3. 8835: Forklift
The third fork-lift, released in 1989, used yet another means of raising and lowering the fork. This time it was attached to a chain which was rotated by means of a wheel on the side of the truck.

4. 8872: Forklift Transporter
The fork lift in this set used much the same mechanism as that in 8835 but had a longer wheelbase. The transporter truck looks very crude to today's standards but when released this was one of my favourite sets.

5. 8248: Forklift
By 1998 studless angled beams were in common use in Technic sets and this uses them to good effect. Once again a new means of raising and lowering the fork is used on this set.
This was re-released as 8463 in 2001.

6. 8441: Fork-Lift Truck
A studless micro-scale forklift which used an elastic band for the fork!

7. 8416: Fork-Lift
The most sophisticated, largest and most attractive fork-lift which uses yet another mechanism to lift the forks.
