BrickList: How to make your own advent calendar

How to make your own advent calendar

Advent calendars are usually shop at home or Lego store exclusives so for many of us they are hard to find if you're not prepared to pay for outrageous shipping, but for the same cost as a regular calendar and shipping you can get your own much better one. This list is the one I made for myself, all for less than the cost of an advent calendar plus shipping all with sets readily available to me in Australia.

All up it cost around $55 Au and contains 14 minifigs!

1. 7195: Ambush In Cairo

This has to be the best value set of the year, rare parts including the brown carrot/horse manure, lots of great colours and 4 excellent minifigs, all for just $16!

2. 5615: The Knight

I think probably the best value of the impulse sets with those great accessories and stand for one day and a knight with a spear and shield for the other, just $5.

3. 8967: Gold Tooth's Getaway

Two minifigs, two vehicles and look at all that gold, for $12 that's great value for 4 days, sure the vehicles are a bit ordinary but still above the standard you'd usually get in an advent calendar.

4. 8399: K-9 Bot

OK, not the most accessories ever for an impulse set, but the design of the dog is genius and I'm more than happy to have this in my calendar.

5. 8401: City Mini-Figure Collection

If this was part of an actual advent calendar Lego surely would have made this 7 or 8 days, but I crammed it into 6
