BrickList: 1984 Castle Relaunch
1984 Castle Relaunch
This is a list of the eight 1984 Castle sets that re-"launched" the Castle theme. The new colour scheme of yellow (instead of the normal town blue) was chosen for the background of the sets, and many regional companies had competitions featuring castle sets and a trip to Legoland Billund as the grand prize around this time.

1. 6010: Supply Wagon
The smallest of the 8 sets, this was the only one that did not have any heraldic affinity and thus served as the "merchant" for the line. It was unique in that it featured a minifigure with new torso printing and that it was a cheap source for the then new castle weapons.

2. 6021: Jousting Knights
This is another small set of the series and one of the few to feature both the Lion Knights and the Black Falcon. It was basically fully equipped knights and more accessories. Again, this was a cheap way to get horses and knights back in the day.

3. 6022: Horse Cart
This is the smallest of the Lion Knights sets in 1984 and it featured a bulky wagon being drawn by a horse. Later chariots/wagons had an improved design, but this design was badly balanced. Nevertheless, it was the smallest set in 1984 to include the archer.

4. 6030: Catapult
This is the smallest of the Black Falcon sets in 1984 and again, it features a bulky catapult. Later designs streamlined the catapult, but this catapult, although it was blocky and bulky, probably was one of the more interesting catapults of the line.

5. 6040: Blacksmith Shop
This is the first of the modular wall pieces (one of the few sets ever released) and the only one that was released in 1984. This was one of the rare sets that was not warfare orientated and had some sort of industry (a farrer/blacksmith).

6. 6061: Siege Tower
This is one of the larger medium sets and it has two parts, a siege engine and a modular wall. The wall piece was simple, but it included a hinge joint which was a welcome addition to those who wanted to make mega castles with the Lion Knights 1984 sets (6040, 6080 and this one 6061). The siege tower, again, although it's block, is probably one of the better built ones in the line, with a lowering drawbridge and stairs at the rear.

7. 6073: Knight's Castle
The smaller castle is obviously for the "bad guys" of the line, although it was not marketed as such back in 1984. This 1984 Black Falcon castle was interesting, with an asymmetrical design, and has a working drawbridge. The castle, like it's larger counterpart (6080) can also be unhinged and modular wall pieces may be added to form a larger castle wall structure.

8. 6080: King's Castle
The larger castle released in 1984 was for the Lion Knights. There are more features in this castle including a pulley for the drawbridge and a porticullis. However, the castle is symmetrical and blocky and boring. This castle, like it's smaller counterpart (6073) can also be unhinged and modular wall pieces (including 6040 and 6061) may be added to form a larger castle wall structure.
