Yet more 2010 images have surfaced on Amazon.com: thanks to everyone that emailed us to say they'd found them there and on flickr and Eurobricks. I've now added them to Brickset and as a reminder you can see how 2010 is shaping up on the Sets (to be) released in 2010 page.

Brickset member et314 ran the Swedish blog Legobloggen through Google translator and found out the following snippet of news about the next Cafe-Corner-Compatible building: "Right now the snacks on a set of numbers 10211th. (The set name is as yet unknown). According to the information it must be a building with a corner shop and consist of 2182 pieces. Colour scheme is said to be gray and yellow with black windows. The price data are suggesting a price of Kr 1499.90. Release date is said to be March 2010." Eurobricks is also reporting very similar news so that's yet another set to look forward to in 2010!

This latest batch of Space Police, Power Miners and Creator images, according to Eurobricks, has been found on Amazon.com.
The new additions to the database list shows them all as does the sets (to be) released in 2010 page.

At last, some non-watermarked images of Atlantis sets have energed, in sirdano's flickr stream. Some are still watermarked confidential, however, so I'm treading on shaky ground here by posting the link.
Now we can see them in great detail, I have to say, they look better than I had originally anticipated. The red submersibles in particular look great, with common design elements throughout (e.g. the curved, bulbous noses) and the sea creatures are not too shabby either. Roll on 2010!

whung has come up trumps again. He's found instructions for a 2010 set at LEGO.com which features pictures of the rest of the City range for next year. You'll find them in his Brickshelf gallery There's yet more Fire sets (yawn) but check out the petrol (gas) tanker -- a decent 6 wide version at last!

The rather excellent TechnicBRICKs blog has scooped exclusive permission to publish a 'company confidential' image of one of next year's Technic sets, 8049, Tractor with log loader. What's more they have some background information about the set -- which reintroduces pneumatics -- from the LEGO Technic marketing manager.
I like the look of the tractor, which looks more realistic than this year's 8063, and pneumatic sets rate among my favourite technic sets, so I'm looking forward to this.

New set news Posted by Huw, Sep 14 2009 5:26PM
I'm just catching up on the news that was sent to us while I was away. As always, thanks to everyone who takes the time to do so; it's apprecated.
The significant stories are:
- The two Power Miners impulse sets (8907 and 8908) are available in Target in the USA for around $3.
- Eurobricks has posted a photo of some forthcoming Toy Story sets, taken at a Disney convention.
- LEGO UK have made a 2010 calendar for charity which features 'your favourite LEGO minifigures in 12 seasonal scenes'. It can be ordered now, priced at £7.99
- It appears that the Pirates advent calendar is not going to be available in the USA, but several websites (including Eurobricks and The Brothers Brick) have started petitions to persuade LEGO to ship some over, like they did with the Castle one last year. I don't know if it'll work but it won't hurt to sign one of them!

New set news Posted by Huw, Aug 22 2009 5:20AM
The two DK Brickmaster books are now shipping. I received mine today directly from DK, and our very own Dr. Sinister found the Pirates one in Waterstones. He's posted pictures over on his Tabletown blog. As you'll see they are about 2.5cm (1") thick with a card box attached to the inside of the front cover, which contains the bricks, and a 44-page book attached to the back cover.
Each book contains instructions for multiple models, and look as if they've been generated in the usual way by LEGO rather than by DK. They are accompanied by cheesy text like "Help the LEGO knight out by making a catapault" but I'll excuse that given the target age range is 5+.
My only criticism is that the book can't lay flat because the card box attached to the front cover gets in the way so you need to prop it open somehow when building. Other than that these are an excellent purchase and I highly recommend them, particularly if you're into Castle or Pirates!
I've added them to the database so when you get your copies, do let us know what you think of them by posting your own review.

New set news Posted by Huw, Aug 14 2009 11:29AM
It would appear that Amazon has added most of the first wave of 2010 sets to its German site, which I'm sure must be somewhat annoying for LEGO who usually like to keep them under wraps until much later in the year. Five Technic sets have been listed and linked to over at the TechnicBricks blog, which I wasn't aware of until today (thanks Jarkko). It looks to be an excellent resource if, like me, you like your Technic. The sets are:
- 8045 - Technic Mini-Teleskoplader (Mini Telescopic Handler)
- 8046 - Technic Hubschrauber (Helicopter)
- 8047 - Technic Kompaktbagger (Compact Excavator)
- 8048 - Technic Buggy
- 8049 - Technic Traktor mit Forstkran (Forest Tractor with Crane)
Update: The full list of 2010 sets revealed at Amazon.de can be found over at Eurobricks.
Update 2: And it now looks like they've all been taken down from the Amazon website.

There's a picture on Brickshelf which apparently shows 5 Castle sets featuring elves. It's too small to tell whether they real or fake, but I now suspect the latter.
However, this isn't the first time there's been word of LEGO elves. The map featured in last year's Castle set instructions showed several territories including one habited by dwarves and another by elves, so we were half expecting them to appear this year.

Thanks to everyone who contacted us while I was away with news of new set sightings in shops and online. I usually reply to everyone who contacts us but with 30-odd emails received while I've been away, I may not find the time to. However, I really appreciate that you take the time to keep us, and Brickset readers as a result, informed of what's happening in your area and what you've found online.
It seems the non-licenced summer releases are appearing just about everywhere now, and if Bionicle is your thing you can now order the 6 latest sets -- which look almost identical to every other one released since 2001 -- from Toys R Us in the USA and Canada.

Rob W has sent news of a new Japanese 'Clickbrick' (the name of the LEGO brand stores in Japan, I believe) catalogue which lists three previously unknown sets:

New set news Posted by Huw, Apr 27 2009 2:12PM
We now have some non-watermarked images of the summer Indy sets, thanks to Brickset member waterjedi17 who found them on Eurobricks, where they have been posted by Eurobricks member Skipper 24 (I like to give credit where it's due!)
Anyway, they all look very interesting and what I like best about them is that they are relatively small sets and, with the exception of the planes, have a lot of new and unique minifigs in them. I don't suppose they will be particularly cheap but at least minifig collectors won't need to buy a $100 set in order to get just one or two figures out of it.
Eurobricks also now has a review of Venice Canal Chase, thanks I suspect to a Czech member :-)

Thanks to Ronny, we have been sent news and pictures of a new Duplo Zoo polybag that is available as five different sets but all with the same set number (5485). Three pieces in each bag are the same - Duplo brick 2x4, Duplo brick 2x2 and red flower. The number four piece is either a polar bear, or a giraffe, or a penguin, or a hippopotamus, or a Duplo male figure, most probably a zoo keeper.

Once again StarWars.com has the scoop on another store exclusive deal in the USA. If you're in the USA I feel sorry for you -- you'll have to traipse round three different stores to pick these all up. The rest of the world will be able to order them from LEGOshop.com. Get down to you local Target when it's releasd on August 1st and try and beat the scalpers, who will undoubtably be there, to the LEGO aisle.
(thanks Matthew and Tony for the news)

So says StarWars.com, once again, and once again I think 'exclusive' needs to be suffixed with 'in the USA' in their headline; I'm sure it will be available everywhere else through normal channels (LEGOshop.com etc.). The set features 6 figures, 5 of which are new, including Admiral Ackbar and Lando. It's due to be launched in August.

lenjonxiii has brought a Brickshelf gallery to my attention that features high-resolution pictures of the forthcoming 7641 City Corner set. Clearly the gallery owner has the set in his posession so I wonder if it's been released early somewhere or whether it's an escapee from the packing factory in the Czech republic...
Regardless of where it came from you can see clearly what a neat set it is. It includes what must be the best LEGO bus ever made which features a new 1x6x5 transparent panel with curved edges which is used for the windscreen and rear window.

New set news Posted by Huw, Mar 29 2009 10:52AM
This neat tow truck, which looks to be the same scale as the equally neat Garbage Truck will be "exclusive to order for LEGO Club Members in Germany in the next issue of the club magazine" says Brickset member gansweith, and I believe it'll be available similarly in the UK.

New set news Posted by Huw, Mar 27 2009 3:46PM

I have mine in hand and construction is now complete! I've posted pictures in my flickr gallery taken as building progressed.
Brickset and Eurobricks member starstreak is also photographing the build and you'll find more pictures and a review at Eurobricks.
So, what do I think of it? Well, building it was a pleasure. Apart from the 8 legs of the AT-OT there is little repetition and as always the instructions are clear and thorough. There was one tricky step -- attaching the cockpit to the dropship -- but other than that it was an easy build.
The AT-OT is an excellent model and looks good once finished, full of clones and legs posed as if walking. It really looks like a great big lumbering beast!
The dropship is an impressive size, about 20" long and 10" high. It attaches and detaches to/from the AT-OT easily and has a neat folding handle mechanism to make it easy to swoosh about. On its own the dropship looks a bit 'empty', but put the two models together and they look great!
Anyway, take a look at my pictures, read the reviews here at Brickset then come to your own conclusion whether it's worth $250.

Remember the black NXT brick that briefly made an appearance on LEGOshop.com over Christmas? It's now available and has been released to celebrate 10 years of LEGO Mindstorms. If you want one you'd better get your order in quickly because there has only been 1998 of them made !
They'll be available through LEGOshop.com in North America and Amazon.com. They won't be available in other markets so if you're outside USA/Canada your best bet will be to try and get Amazon to ship one internationally.
The announcement from LEGO is as follows:
---
LEGO MINDSTORMS 10 Year Anniversary Exclusive: The Black NXT Limited Edition.
Now you can be the proud owner of one of the Limited Edition Black NXT micro-controllers that we have produced to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of LEGO MINDSTORMS.
The first LEGO MINDSTORMS products came out in the year 1998 and have since then continued to bring fun and active building and programming experiences to millions of robotic builders across the world!
Only 1998 exclusive units will only be available through our online shop LEGOshop.com and www.amazon.com
Why a Black NXT? Because it is cool! And looking around in the MINDSTORMS community we noticed that a Black NXT was high on the wish list among users. Also, talking to the MINDSTORMS Community Partners, the closed web forum of adult fans collaborating with the LEGO MINDSTORMS development team, it was very well received and suggested as a must-have!
Once you have bought and received your new Black NXT you will get access to additional materials like a special-made program for the Black NXT, a personal certificate of ownership, wallpapers, building instructions for special models.
Please note that this is an exclusive item in a limited edition: only 1998 produced! – so, if you want to secure yours go online at
---
LEGO sent me some picures of cool models made with the black brick which I've added to my flickr gallery.

New set news Posted by Huw, Feb 25 2009 2:40PM
Cimi in Austria emailed to say he's found a promotional farm set in Spar shops. There's a picture here, http://www.interspar.at//interspar/angebote/promo2.htm, but the page is very slow at the moment.
10 minutes later TTS in France emailed to say "a new small bagged city set is available for France. It's the 4899: mini tractor farm. It's a gift when we buy for 20€ lego farm sets at Lego stand in 'Salon de l'agriculture' in Paris. It's a green remake of the 6608."
As you can see from the image it is very similar to 1982's 6608 but has been updated with new wheels curved pieces. I suppose there's only so many ways you can build a tractor out of a handful of bits :-)
(Thanks to TTS for providing the image)

As this image used for the trains theme on http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/ shows. It's not listed as a product yet in the trains section but they're not exactly going to use a picture of a hoax set, are they! (thanks jkw96).
If you still see a picture of an old train, press Ctrl-F5 in your browser to refresh the page.
Update: LEGO ambassador Anthony Sava has posted some official information, and links to more pictures over on Lugnet:
#10194 – Emerald Night, Ages 14+, 1,085 pieces, Pricing: US$99.99, CA $129.99, UK £68.50, DE €89.99
The images clearly show the old-style train windows in tan and that the loco is dark green. I can't wait!
Another update: It's now listed on LEGOShop.com and will ship on April 15th.

New set news Posted by Huw, Feb 14 2009 2:46PM

legoloverman mentioned finding this image on flickr. I have no idea if it's genuine but it looks like it could be! LEGO are known to be working on a new train set for release this year so the timing is certainly right. It could be a hoax, but it's a elaborate one if so! There's no mention of Power Functions on the box. Maybe it can be motorised but the motor is not included.
Check out the large train wheels! And the tan train windows! It's almost too good to be true!

I don't know whether I should be linking to this stuff or not, I know I said I wouldn't, but this gallery on a Chinese site (thanks dragon_teenager!) has clear scans from the retailers' catalogue and not just poor photos. At last we can see clearly what the space police sets are like, and I like what I see! It seems each set has a different alien in it and it looks like imagination has gone into creating them.
There's also pictures of the summer Agents sets, the first time I've seen them posted anywhere, and also the summer Power Miners sets including a great looking rock monster!
As I've said before it's not my job to prevent images like these being posted -- that's for LEGO to do -- but I will remove links to them if asked.
Update 13th Feb: The photos are no longer available at that URL: not because they've been removed but because the user has exceeded his bandwidth allowance at PhotoBucket -- clearly too many people have been looking at them!
-
New set news Posted by Huw, Feb 11 2009 5:00AM
I know this reporting this is against my principles of linking to images from retailers' catalogues but it's been a slow week for news and given that they are on Jedi News virtually the whole world will have seen them by now anyway. So, thanks to enzo840 for bringing this page at Jedi News to my attention, and Mr F. for this one which has pretty good pictures of the 5 summer IJ sets.

Thanks to dragon_teenager for alerting me to reports from the Canadian Toy and Hobby Fair!
There's a lot to take in -- we've seen most of the sets as poor scans but these are the first clear pictures of them!
-
New set news Posted by Huw, Jan 18 2009 5:33AM
As a general rule we don't use pictures scanned from the retailers' catalogue, particularly this early in the year when no other pictures have emerged of the summer '09 sets and LEGO want to keep them under wraps.
That said, Brickshelf and Flickr are awash with them and while I can't condone their publication there's no point me trying to prevent their distribution (that's LEGO's job) so if you read the comments to this article you'll find links galore.

Legoloco has sent us nice pictures of the forthcoming Architecture sets designed by Adam Reed Tucker. 21002 features the Empire State Building and 21003 the Seattle Space Needle. As great at these are, I hope future models will feature some European buildings. 30 St. Mary Axe (AKA the gherkin) in London would make a challenging subject!
What do you think he should make next?

New set news Posted by shima55, Dec 10 2008 1:35PM
Thanks to the early release of some 2009 LEGO sets, we now have confirmation for at least one new LEGO video game for 2009, LEGO Racers: The Video Game! The advertisement for the game, which features preliminary box art, can be seen on the top of certain 2009 Racers sets boxes. Systems the game will be released for have not yet been announced. This is the first non-licensed LEGO video game to be released since 2006's BIONICLE Heroes. It is also the forth racing-centric LEGO video game to be released, after 1999's LEGO Racers, 2001's LEGO Racers 2, and 2002's Drome Racers. We will keep you posted on any other 2009 LEGO video game news to come our way.

A couple of people emailed us to say that they've found the 2009 Pirates sets in the LEGO Imagination Center, Orlando, FL.
If you're nearby, drop by, check them out then let us know what you think of them!
Update 15 Nov: Several people have also reported seeing them in Toys R Us stores across the USA too.

This flickr gallery and Eurobricks have posted some excellent new images of box art of 2009 sets. There's a lot to take in but suffice to say at this time that 2009 looks like being a cracking year.
You can view them all easily here on our sets released in 2009 page

Thanks to AVCampos for alerting us to this website which has small but clear pictures of many of next year's sets including Power Miners, Pirates and City Farm. There's a couple of Pirate impuse sets which I don't think we've seen pictures of before here and here. Let us know if you find anything else interesting if you can be bothered to wade through the site's poor navigation.

New set news Posted by Huw, Oct 4 2008 1:51PM
Today, at the Great Western LEGO show at the STEAM museum in Swindon, Jan and Tormod from LEGO revealed a new Castle set for 2009!
It looks excellent -- lots of interesting features, great colours, cows, fish, the return of the Scala roast turkey body and so on!
LEGO's description reads as follows:
This classic medieval village with marketplace is a perfect match for any LEGO Castle. Full of authentic features, fun accessories and all-new animals to expand and enhance your kingdom; it includes two complete buildings with detailed interiors like a blacksmith's shop with waterwheel-driven hammer, a food stand, tree, table, cart, cows, horse, chicken, rooster, duck, peasants, knights, rare elements and colors, and more!
- Includes 8 minifigures: blacksmith, 2 soldiers, 2 male peasants, 2 female peasants and a boy minifigure!
- Play inside! The 2 two-story buildings feature a hinge system that allows you to open and close them as you wish!
- The yellow building contains the stables, blacksmiths shop and his home upstairs! Help the blacksmith forge the swords with the working water powered trip hammer! Don't forget to close the stable gates and feed the horse some carrots!
- Blacksmith's home features pictures on the walls, opening windows, table and fireplace!
- The classically European styled blue building features a cozy tavern on the first floor and welcoming bedroom on the top floor!
- Lots of authentic touches: fireplaces in the bedrooms, pictures on the walls, dressing tables, working doors and windows and other interior details!
- The soldiers and peasants alike shop and eat in the marketplace filled with baskets of fish, apples and flowers. Sit at the table for a meal of ale, cheese and whole turkey but stay out of the way of the soldiers carrying the king's treasure!
- Buildings measure over 7.5" tall and over 9" long when open wide!
It's perhaps a little pricey at £85 in the UK, but judging from the reaction on Saturday, it's sure to be a hit.
There are more pictures at Brothers Brick.

Is it real of fake? The lack of a set number raises suspicions although the box and other artwork looks legit enough.

Anyone who has been waiting for the final part of the 2008 LEGO Star Wars: The Clone Wars collection in the U.S. has very little time left to wait. The official Target website has the set listed as arriving in 2 to 6 weeks. Three other exclusive sets will be arriving at this time, too, City 4210 Coast Guard Platform, Agents 8636 Mission 7: Deep Sea Quest, and BIONICLE 8942 Jetrax T6 (yellow version), all at a price point of $49.99! We will keep you posted for when they first appear only at Target stores.

New set news Posted by Huw, Aug 5 2008 3:50AM
We still don't know whether this will be publicly available or not, but its instructions can now be downloaded from the LEGO.com building instructions page. So why not build your own! Download book 1 and book 2 and have a go.
The fact they have appeared here perhaps suggests that it'll get a public release: after all the Maersk container ship was originally thought to be available only via Maersk but was then sold via LEGOshop.com and sold very well, so much so it was re-released the following year.
Thanks to Ambassador Disley for the news.

Anyone searching for Star Wars 7678 Droid Gunship and/or BIONICLE 8954 Mazeka needs to go to Wal-Mart, as this is the only place to find these sets besides LEGO S@H in North America. 8954 is currently not on LEGO S@H, and is not that easy to find in-store yet either.

No doubt you are aware that Star Wars sets 7680 The Twilight and 7681 Seperatist Spider Droid, have been available at Toys "R" Us locations for a few days now. However, we now have confirmation that SOME TRU locations have the rest of the exclusives for this year, namely SpongeBob SquarePants 3832 The Emergency Room, Indiana Jones 7628 Peril In Peru, Mars Mission 7649 MT-201 Ultra-Drill Walker, and Agents 8637 Mission 8: Volcano Base. Make sure you call beforehand, as not all locations have them in yet.

New set news Posted by shima55, Jul 28 2008 11:21PM
Anyone worried about the fact that 7679 Republic Fighter Tank is currently unavailable in the U.S., rest assured, you will be able to complete your Clone Wars collection, just not anytime soon. Apparently, in tandem with a LEGO S@H release, it will be a Target exclusive later in the year (usually October), along with Agents 8636 Mission 7: Deep Sea Quest, and BIONICLE 8942 Jetrax T6, in a special supercharged yellow version. More than likely, City 4210 Coast Guard Platform will be released via this outlet in the U.S. as well, but nothing is confirmed as of yet. Of course, if you are a U.K. consumer, all of these sets are already available to you, barring the yellow 8942.

New set news Posted by Huw, Jul 2 2008 2:57PM
LEGO's Customer Service building instruction page now includes instructions for the Clone Wars sets. It surprises me that instructions often appear on there before they are available in the shops, but I guess it at least lets us see what's in the set and whether it's worth buying or not.
I am told that they will be released on July 26th in the USA and the LEGO brand stores will be opening at midnight!
Thanks to everyone that told us about these.

If you live in the U.S. and missed the exclusive Target early release of the Castle set 7036 Dwarves Mine, and have also not been able to get it from LEGO S@H and are worried that you may have missed out on a chance to get this amazing set, do not worry! The latest Toys R Us advertising shows that the set is available there now along with all the other new Castle sets apart from 7048 and the impulse range. This is good news for U.S. consumers as this set is currently the highest rated set in the database, and having missed out on it would have been a real shame.

You can now order the VW Beetle from Amazon. It's shipping from October 1st, apparently. The price at $120 seems quite a lot. I hope that doesn't translate to £80-90 when the UK price is known.
There's something about the model that doesn't look quite right to me: the roof and pillars. As my friend Ralph suggested, perhaps a conversion to a convertible will be in order.

New set news Posted by Huw, Jun 6 2008 7:40AM
Thanks to everyone who sent us the Agents and Coast Guard Platform pictures, I have now added them. It looks like they came off the cache at LEGO.com so hopefully they'll be added to the shop soon!
I have to say, the coast guard platform looks quite interesting, but wouldn't it be better if it were an oil rig! Maybe that's an idea for a future sea-based theme...

Pictures of two new space sets, first hinted at on the LEGO Factory themes page, are featured in the latest BrickJournal (which, incidentally will be available in print), have turned up on Brickshelf.
There are definitely some AFOL-influenced features on these and it will be interesting to find out who had a hand in designing them. What do you think of them? The ship looks cool but I'm not sure about the monster!

If you haven't seen any of the new CITY Cargo sets, including 7731 Mail Van, 7732 Air Mail, 7733 Truck & Forklift, and 7734 Cargo Plane in stores in the U.S., the newest LEGO Magazine has good news for you! The reason these have not been spotted in retail stores in the U.S. yet, is because they are Toys"R"Us exclusives. So head over to your nearest Toys"R"Us to see if they have made their way there yet or, just check out the LEGO Shop website, as they are available there as well.

water jedi 17 has informed us of this page at starwars.com, reporting that, if you wish to get the new 7672 Rogue Shadow set early, all you need is an XBOX 360, an XBOX LIVE subscription, and a copy of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga for XBOX 360. Then, just play the online co-op mode this weekend, December 7-9, for a chance to win one of the 72 Rogue Shadow sets, given out hourly. There are also 2 secondary prizes, including non-LEGO related XBOX 360 accessories, and a grand prize featuring the UCS Death Star II set! Interestingly, the grand prize doesn't include the Rogue Shadow.

While looking at the back of one of the new Mars Mission sets for 2008, I noticed that 7693 ETX Alien Strike and 7694 MT-31 Trike were not listed with the rest of the theme on the list advertising the rest of the theme, being replaced by 7647 MX-41 Switch Fighter and 7648 MT-101 Mobile Mining Unit. This probably means that these sets are, or soon will be, discontinued. Interestingly, on the UK S@H site, 7693 ETX Alien Strike is not even listed. Better grab these sets while you can!

The De Bouwsteen site has a picture of a new town plan set that has presumably been revealed at LEGO World which is currently on-going in Holland. What's particularly nice about it is that it has a picture of Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen on the box 50 years after he was photographed as a boy on a town plan set from 1958!
It looks like a neat set featuring some interesting colours.
