Brickset user addictedtostyrene reports that "Toyworld in Canberra have Galaxy Squad sets, including 70704 and 70705, which I haven't seen in any other Aussie stores. They also have the new Super Heroes sets, Superman and Iron Man" and that "Big W in Canberra have Galaxy Squad sets, and oddly enough, 21201 Life Of George; boxed set with iOS and Android apps, for $38."

It is interesting to finally see the Life of George set available in a bricks-and-mortar store here in Australia long after it was released overseas.

  • Shell promotion reaches Australia

Posted by Huw, 16 Mar 2013 04:43. Filed under Shopping (Australia/NZ).

To coincide with the Australian GP this weekend, the 'buy a LEGO polybag at Shell garages' promotion kicks off in Australia on Monday. From the press release: "From Monday 18 March, customers will be able to purchase exclusive Ferrari model LEGO cars at Shell Coles Express sites across Australia. A new model will be available each week for six weeks."

And, from a email that's been sent to members of the 'Shell V-Power club', more clarification: "Our unique range, exclusive to Shell Coles Express, will be available from Monday, March 18 for just $6 when you spend $40 or more on Shell V-Power* at your local Shell Coles Express. Or $8 sold separately."

The six sets are 30190-30195. There's no mention whether the seventh, the pit crew, 30196, will be part of the promotion or not.

I wonder then whether the promotion will follow the GPs around the world? If so, it'll hit Europe in May, June and July.

Thanks to Michelle and Scott for the news.

  • 30019 available in New Zealand

Posted by Huw, 09 Nov 2012 05:04. Filed under Shopping (Australia/NZ).

30019 with Westpac stickersThe relatively hard-to-find polybag 30019 that I was getting excited about earlier in the week has turned up in New Zealand as part of a fund raising appeal for Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Westpac is a multinational financial corporation which sponsors the rescue helicopter service in New Zealand.

It has stickers attached to the bag to enable you to 'brand' the model once built.

Geoff in NZ says "The Queen Street branch in Auckland is the first to have them, although I just picked one up at the Ponsonby Rd branch."

Unlike the rest of the world whose financial year ends in March, in Australia it ends at the end of June. It seems that retailers there have sales to liquidate their stock just beforehand, which I don't think happens in the US/UK.

Here are a couple of such sales that have been brought to my attention:

End of Financial Year Sale at ORTCo.
It's the end of another big financial year at Outer Rim Trading Co. and they'd rather sell their stock than count it all on June 30th so it's the perfect time to have what could be Australia's biggest LEGO sale!

Starting at 12:01am AEST Monday June 18 until 11:59pm AEST Sunday June 24, they will be offering a massive 30% off RRP on not just a few lines, but on every single product currently in stock (excluding gift vouchers). That's almost 300 items from LEGO, DUPLO, TECHNIC, books, DVD's and storage - all 30% off RRP. Stocks are limited, sorry, no rainchecks.

Giant toy sale at BigW and Target
KangoJack writes: "this year the sale starts on the 28th June, but you can preorder from the 21st June online. They have some great bargains, including 20% off all LEGO. The major item is the 10221 Super Star Destroyer which has a whopping 33% off the RRP (now only $498AUD)". You can find out more in the forum.

    ShopForMe Blitzathon
Www.shopforme.com.au has a huge sale coming up on Wednesday 20 /06 that they call the BLITZATHON. Theyheavily discount 1 LEGO set each hour starting from 11:00am till midnight. The sale includes LEGO exclusives sets and the current range, so there’s huge bargins to be had!

If you're in New Zealand, it's your turn to get a free 'Shirtless' Darth Maul: all you need do is spend $50 in Toyworld on Star Wars LEGO. It looks as if they have the summer sets in stock now, so that shouldn't be too hard...

Alepou emailed with some great news for Aussies: "I found the new R2-D2 set at retail store Target tonight here in Melbourne! It was at a shopping centre called Northlands.

"Target is running a 20% off Lego special which ends on Wednesday. RRP was $249.00 AUD so with 20% off it worked out at $199.20."

Here's a picture of it on the shelf.  It sounds like a bit of a bargain: I don't think it's available at that level of discount anywhere else in the world.

It's that time of year again when all of the major retailers in Australia begin their Mid-Year Toy Sales. There are some good deals to be found - I suggest that you look carefully at the offers in the retailer catalogues.

Of note, Myer is offering 10214 Tower Bridge for AUD 319, which is much less than the Australian RRP of AUD 399. Big W is offering 10212 Star Wars UCS Imperial Shuttle for AUD 448. At these prices, it is worth considering purchasing these massive sets in Australia, rather than shipping them in from overseas (think of the high postage costs!).

Remember, the big retailers all offer extended lay-by facilities during the Toy Sales, which is great if you want to get some of the larger sets for Christmas without the initial large financial outlay!

Here is the summary of the various sales at the large retailers:

Target - Sale starts July 21.
Target's Toy Sale Catalogue has not been released yet.

    K-Mart - Sale runs from 30 June 2011 to 13 July 2011.
K-Mart Toy Sale catalogue - refer to pages 40 through 43.
K-Mart also offers a "guaranteed lay-by" facility, where you can go to the in-store layby desk with the catalogue, and point out what items you'd like to place on layby - no more visiting the store to find out they've sold out of the item you were after!

    Big-W - Sale runs from 30 June 2011 to 13 July 2011.
Big-W Toy Sale catalogue - refer to pages 58 through 61.

Myer - Sale runs from 23 June 2011 to 24 July 2011. (All LEGO 20%-off during sale).
Myer Toy Sale catalogue - refer to page 3, page 8 and page 32.

Several people have reported seeing new sets from the Pirates of the Carribean range and the Duplo Cars range on shelves at Target stores.

Prices at Target are currently at LEGO Australia's RRP, so it is still much cheaper to source these sets from the US - if you can find them online! Apparently, Australian customers who placed orders with Barnes & Noble for LEGO PotC sets recently have all had their orders cancelled, due to "no stock available".

Thank you to Brickset members shokwave2 and Dr. Rod and also toDinkums-Dazza (via Facebook) for your information.

Edit: Just in the mail today, and also as noted by Brickset member, TinyTurbosCityAndToyStory, was a catalogue from Big W advertising that they are now carrying the new Cars (non-Duplo) sets also. More details in the comments.

  • 30%-off at Games Empire (Australian online store)

Posted by jpmanalo, 06 May 2011 21:23. Filed under Shopping (Australia/NZ).

Games Empire is an independent toy store in Australia, and at the moment they are running a 30%-off sale on all LEGO items. They have in stock many sets that the larger retailers, like Big-W, Target and K-Mart, have already stopped selling.

Unlike other online retailers, I have found their prices to be consistent with LEGO Australia's RRP, so this 30%-off sale does have some genuine savings when compared to other Australian retailers.

    Happy shopping folks!

From what I understand, Kmart will be the only Australian 'bricks-and-mortar' retailer to carry set 3661 on their shelves.

With the Easter school holiday period coming soon, it appears that Myer, Toys 'R' Us and Target are all running various promotions to get you to buy LEGO sets from their shelves in time for these holidays.

    • Target is running a 20%-off sale from the 7th of April until the 13th of April. There are reports that they are carrying all of the new LEGO City Space sets (3365, 3366, 3367 and 3368).

It's coming to that time of year when retailers across Australia start discounting their prices on LEGO sets. The first wave of advertising (and sales!) is from Target and Toys 'R' Us.

    • The latest Target catalogue features some of the new Space Police 3 sets, some of the Toy Story sets and one of the new Duplo sets on sale:

You will find these on page 17 of the catalogue. The Target sale starts 10 June 2010 and finishes 16 June 2010.

    • The latest Toys 'R' Us catalogue also has many specials on various LEGO sets (including 7597 Western Train Chase) - there are too many on sale to list here individually. Pages 3 and 7 of the catalogue feature the LEGO sets on sale. Of note is their offer of a "Bonus Star Wars Silver Storm Trooper and Free Lego Club Membership Form when you spend AUD 70.00 or more on LEGO Products in one transaction. (Limit 1 per customer)". Also of note, is the coupon on the last page of the Toys 'R' Us catalogue, offering "20% off your total purchase price when you spend AUD 100.00 or more on full priced items." The coupon is only valid from 12 June 2010 till 14 June 2010. If you happen to find a 10197 Fire Brigade in stock at your local (Australian) Toys 'R' Us store, you might find this coupon quite handy!

    • Also, there are reports that Australian K-Mart stores, and other retailers in Australia are also starting to stock the new Space Police 3 sets on their shelves (Thank you jimmybrick for that report).

Given this weekend is a long weekend, due to the Queen's Birthday Holiday next Monday, this could be a good opportunity to go out and purchase some new LEGO sets!

Update: Click through to comments for this article to see a list of all the items on sale at (Australian) Toys 'R' Us stores.

Update 2: The Queens Birthday Holiday next Monday is observed by all Australian states, except for Western Australia (who will be observing the Queens Birthday Holiday in October).

As mentioned in a previous news article, June/July is the time of year that all of the large retailers in Australia generally have sales on toys, including LEGO products. Target and Toys 'R' Us are the next retailers to announce their up-coming toy sales, and have released their catalogues on-line with pricing (Links to catalogues: Toys 'R' Us | Target).

It is worthy mentioning that Target will be releasing a first-offering of World Racers sets for this sale.

The Toys 'R' Us Toy Sale begins on Wednesday 30 June 2010 and finishes Saturday 11 July 2010
The Target Toy Sale begins Thursday 22 July 2010 and finishes Wednesday 04 August 2010.

Australian LEGO shoppers will have noted that in Australia, until now, Series One LEGO Minifigures have only been available from Target and Toyworld stores (as well as through LEGOShop.com and some other online retailers).

I have reports that Australian Toys 'R' Us stores are receiving very limited stocks of them -- staff at one Toys 'R' Us store have indicated that the only stock they are expecting to receive, are two of the outer boxes: in other words, only 120 minifig packages!.

With reports coming in that many Target and Toyworld stores are now completely sold out of them, this might be your next chance to score that missing minifig from your collection!

July is the time of year that the big retailers traditionally have large toy sales here in Australia. Click through to the comments to get a full listing of all items listed in the catalogues.

The latest Myer catalogue has just been released, and from 24 June 2010 until 25 July 2010, Myer is offering 20%-off the regular price on all LEGO items in their stores.

Listed specials within the catalogue are as follows:

    City

    Duplo

    Racers

    Toy Story

    Trains

    Star Wars

According to the Myer catalogue, some of the items listed above are apparently "Exclusive to Myer" (which means that other retailers within Australia will not be stocking these sets).

The Myer sale starts "... from Thursday 24 June 2010 and finishes on Sunday 25 July 2010, unless sold out."

Update: There is an additional 10% discount for Myer One cardholders, but only on Thursday 24 June and Friday 25 June.
