    Thanks to relatively new Brickset member Liam who attended a LEGO Inside Tour this year, we have an excellent image of the exclusive set that was given to attendees.

    For those that don't know, LEGO run the 'Inside tours' a few  times a year. They consist of a "2½ day’s tour to Billund, Denmark, where you will meet designers, see the factory, visit the archive,  receive a unique LEGO gift ... just to mention a few of the highlights. " and are a dream come true for LEGO fans. They are expensive, partly because you stay in the LEGOLAND Hotel, but given the uniqueness of the experience, they are worth every penny. There are three running in 2011 and you can find out more on the LEGO website.

    Anyway, back to the sets. This year's 'Cars' model was limited to just 33 sets, and last year's to 32, so they must rank as the rarest sets ever. BrickLink has the 2005 and 2009 sets listed, which I have added here, but there were presumably ones made for the intervening years. If you have been on a tour and have one, do send us a picture, and let us know what you thought of the tour, too.

    Update: Brickset lurker minicoop4 has provided information about the sets that were given on the other years:

    • 2005: LECA Automobile
    • 2006: LECA Automobile
    • 2007: Market street, with a special sleeve around the box with pictures and text.
    • 2008: LEGO Town Plan, LEGO 50 years, special designed sleeve around the box, interview with Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and the designer who made the box
    • 2009: Ole Kirk's House
    • 2010: LEGO Cars, contains 3 cars, two made by KKK when he was young and one made by our designer.

    So, as he says, we have pictures for the three unique sets.

I did the tour this year, it was well worth the money. The sets are issued with a group photo of the attendees on the back, so there were actually 3 runs of this set each with around 33 copies, so about 100 of the set in total, but of course there are 3 different photos on them depending on the tour. I have 2 as I dragged my wife on the tour, and although she was only there to keep me company she ended up becoming an afol thanks to the well run tour.

btw the cars were chosen because the oldest design (the white one) was done by the current owner of lego ( Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen) when he was a teenager and actually sold over 1.1 million. The red car was also designed by him but never went into production as he had to damage some bricks at the time to get the design how he wanted it, so now it is possible to do his design without damaging bricks the designer Steen Sig Anderson designed it based on his original design, and the third car (the yellow one) is to show what is possible today with the current bircks in production.

I have not opened my set as its staying MISB and is signed by Steen and is set 32 of 33.

Heck you can probably make a good amount of your money back by just selling one of these sets on ebay or amazon.

@BerryBrick: The red sports car and the white jeep are both Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen's (the guy who owns the Lego company) copies models he designed when he was a teenager however, only the jeep went on to be launched (set 330). The yellow car is made by Lego designer Steen Sig Anderson exclusivly for the Inside Tour.

@Huw: The jeep isn't a sports car and, my Brickset member name is TheKingOfBuilding, not Liam (thats my real name!!!) ;)

@The Green Brick Giant - On the tour you had to sign a non disclosure agreement and one of the things you agreed too was not to sell anything they gave you on the tour.

Thanks Keith for that information, very interesting.

I haven't done one of these tours as I've already done the vault, the factory tour and met a lot of the designers, but I am tempted to take the wife and see whether it'll convert her next year :-)

I would love to go on a tour but I can't get the time off and even if I did I wouldn't be able to pay for it!!!

I went on the tour. It was great! I have two Ole Kirk's Houses. They are very well designed, and on the back of the box is a picture of everyone who went on the tour with the Lego designers.
