I'll bet they're charging the higher price since they noticed how well series 2 sold at TRU and others for $2.99! Don't buy any $3.99 minifigs, or we may find S4 going up in price as well! I'm so glad I bought all my S3 last month at TRU with a BOGO 50% when they were still seilling them for $2.99.

I always wanted to get some of the collectable minifigures but I always seem to miss out on the minifigures. $2.99?!?! What! I thought it would be $1.99. Oh, no! LEGO is overpricing again! I hope to buy the baseball player, the snowboarder, the tennis player, and the dragon knight guy.

^ I have asked when we'll see 2011 sets on this side of the pond but I haven't had an answer yet. I hope it's before the VAT rise but I can see LEGO holding off until after then to simplify the prices.

It was expected that Series 3 would be $2.99. The significantly-higher pricing of both wholesalers such as Entertainment Earth and retailers such as Walmart have predicted this higher price point.
Also, while Series 1 had a limit of 5, like Series 3, Series 2 also had a limit of 16 (at least in the US).

I'm really disappointed with the increase. Firstly for the fact that I could've grabbed them at TRU during the BOGO50 when they first came out and paid less than the now-confirmed MSRP, but waited to see if LEGO would hold the price at $1.99, and secondly for the fact that CMFs2 is probably going to be the last series I will get a complete 16 of (and I got a lot of multiples of some of them, too.) This time around, I will get some multiples of the ones I really like, get singles of the other ones I want (totaling around only 7 or 8 individual types out of the 16) and ignore the rest. I really don't need a dude in a gorilla suit for $2.99, and I'm not really interested in most of the sports-related figures.

It is great Lego will get these online, and that the limit is 16, BUT it is not like Lego is giving you a set, so that limit is kind of worthless to be honest. I mean the whole idea of a '16 limit' is to see if you can get a a set, but when Lego warehouse people just grab 16 straight packs you are probably going to get a lot of duplicates. Unfortunately when I got a box the TRU employee made the girl pull out every pack and scan so she messed up the order in the box so I am not sure how the randomness of the boxes are. Does anyone know what the randomness is in a box?

This just in!!!!! TRU.com has the Mandalorian Battle packs back in stock... for 14.99... plus shipping.. Oh well, but they are available.. I would say that if anyone can wait, wait until you can get to a lego store or buy on Lego.com since you have to pay shipping either way right now, BUT Lego will have them only for 12 dollars.
Only looks like 80 left so if you really NEED them...

Also does anyone know if the Shuttle adventure set really is at TRU stores, or only online?

Unfortunately 2.99 was inevitable... When people are buying entire boxes of these when they see them (I mean there were four boxes at a TRU by me at 3.99 pack and they were all gone and not during a sale either)
I mean if people want to pay that amount then Lego will bump the price...
2.99 is still not horrible, BUT I say if they go up anymore you might as well take the randomness out of it and rarity too. I mean taking $3-4 'potshots' at getting the figs you want, or need to complete a set, is a bit much.
Again they should just sell sets of these online for those that just want a set but do not want to have to fight over them.. They will still sell the packs at the impulse aisle or near the counter but at least you will not have to stand their and look at every pack for stupid dots....
And you will not have to worry about people going to the store to cherry pick the best, or rare ones, out of a box... such as the fisherman and the Elves, and leaving you with the rest and an incomplete set.

Or perhaps Lego has learned from its past mistakes and is on top of it this time. We’ve all heard that series 3 has the largest production run of the collectable mini-figs to date and we also know that Lego is still marking the packages to keep tabs on the figure type, in addition to this we know that Lego listens to its fan base quite well and I’m sure that Lego got a good amount of complaints about the randomness (or lack thereof) of the previous online mini-fig purchases. So with the change of the purchase limit to mirror the figure count for this series is it really that hard to believe that Lego’s got it worked out so that buying 16 figs equals a guaranteed complete set?

@mrdennings: they had a 16 count limit for series 2 thru lego.com and I got about 5-6 vampires in that order. So I would say while I hope they really have learned, I wouldn't bet on it.

Ether 2.99 is the Lego shop only price, or there better be a picture on the bag of what fig it is.

Since there are only a few figures in this series that I want, it's not worth the gamble to pay $2.99 and potentially get some I don't want. I'll pay Bricklink costs and save money in the long run.

Has anyone seen series 3 in stores in Canada? I've checked numerous retailers and still haven't found them. I don't want to order them from LEGO.com when they're available because I don't want to buy 16 mini-figures and get only 4 to 6 different ones out of the entire set. Now that it is difficult to determine what's in the pack and the difficulty in finding these things to begin with I don't know if I will actually buy any.

Psh, I bought some for 2.99 long ago at this ma/pa store. All the other stores 'round here either didnt have them or sold them for 6$. I dont think a dollar extra would sell as slowly as we think in big box stores though, maybe if it were 3.99 we'd be left with at least the less popular ones

Madforlegoe: At first they had them by the Christmas area were they put all there impulse toys and what nots. Then the last time I went they weren't there any more. Just when I was about to leave, I decided to just walk around and browes a little, and I found four cases in an extra aisle that they put some overflow toys (during the summer they keep there Plant food, garden tools and such). So make sure you look around.....you never know.

Lame, and here I thought the Msrp was all ready 2.99. Here in the Indianapolis area they are 3.99 every where (when you can find them) and 2 of the TRU's are charging 4.99 all ready. This just means they are going to get more expensive and I am just going to have to stop buying and searching. These figs brought me back to lego after a 15 year absence, but after all the money I spent trying to complete my series 2 and all the time I have spent trying to find series 3 in my area (not even 1 pack ><) I am seriously questioning my sanity for making to choice to collect again.

I was told some of the new sets would start to be listed on 26th in the UK, I had an order that should have been shipped in time for xmas and they messed up so they have given me free shipping on my next order and in the e-mail they told me the new sets would start being listed on 26th. I bet the prices include the new VAT rate even if you buy them before the 4th January (which is when the new vat rate takes effect, I know as I supply accounting software and its going to be hell on 4th).

@brixton- I know just how you feel. I live like 10 minutes away from a toys r us and they haven't had any of the minifigures from series one, two, or three! Hopefully they will get some soon though. Just have to keep checking back.

@Scoutjo5: I have only seen series 1 and 2 at 1 TRU each. Both TRUs that had them weren't even in the city I lived in. I didn't mind so much for the first two series' since the retailer I bought them at had them for $2.86 instead of $2.99.

When I first heard they were doing Series 1, and before the MSRP had been announced, I just assumed they would be $3-$4 a pack based on the cost of sets like the Jester that are basically just a minifig and a few little bricks. I was pleasantly surprised when they were only $2, don't get me wrong, I am still bummed about the increase now that I have been used to paying only $2, but I think we were pretty lucky to get the first series for so cheap. The increase does mean I will not be getting as many as I did of series 2 (I procrastinated on series 1 and missed out on them in the stores not realizeing how limited they would be), but I was not so impressed with series 3 to begin with.

These things aren't worth buying myself anymore, they'll be a 'gift' item for me. They should just discontinue CM's and make sets with more unique figures in them if they go up to $5+. Just more worth in buying an actual set than these now.

EDIT: ON another note that is good (for me) is that most of the Ninjago sets are fairly reasonable in terms of price. I can see the small ones going fast for the ninjas compared to the price of s3 figures.

A question to anyone who bought mini-figures online (from LEGO.com). Is it worth it? Do you get a sufficient number of originals with your order of 16? I don't want to order 16 online and then end up with 5 gorillas. The shipping cost is a deterrence to online ordering too but if I can't find them in stores then I'll have to get them online eventually.

I have all of the Series 3 minifigures already. I found them at my local Walmart. I went yesterday and got all of them execpt for 2 duplicates, which I went back today and got the ones I didn't get. I noticed that some of the dots weren't in thir right spots. All the Elf's dot were backwards, and one dot was in the middle of the bag on the Racecar Driver. The feeling method proved to work better. They say the Racecar Driver is the hardest to feel, but if you feel hard enough you can find the hair. This is the first minifigure series where I got a complete set!

I was under the impression that in North America at least, the limit on Series 2 minifigures was 16; otherwise, I would not have gotten a single shipment of 16 figures. I think the Series 3 limit ought to be 32 figures, since we know that Lego at least made the effort to produce more figures due to the unpredictably high demand for Series 1 and 2 figures.

Series 3 has been pretty common in my part of the world. The Fisherman is the only figure I can't find. Is he really only 2 per box? If so, what a strange figure to short pack.

I loved the $1.99 price point like everyone obviously, but $2.99 is a fair price. They do that Build a Mini-Fig for $9.99 for 3 figs and they're not anything rare or special (except maybe the Ninja torso's and head's).

So I hope this is the price point for awhile. If they go higher I won't pay for a full set of 16. $1.99 made it great to buy 2 full sets, $2.99 is fair...if it goes up to $3.99....I'll really limit what I buy and $4.99 is just out of the question.
Also, I remember my local Lego Store having no limit on Series II figs. Series I they had a 5 limit and when Series II came out they kept replenishing their stock often and had no limit.

Well, speaking from a UK perspective, I for one will not appreciate a price hike on collectable minifigs... at £1.99 the price was reasonable for pocket-money purchases, and remember it meant at least £32 for a full set with zero duplication. The collectable minifigs where a hit for me for the following reasons:

A: Unique figs that are not found in regular sets.
B: They are affordable, and thus a full set is within financial reach.
C: They are widely available, in enough quantity, so we can collect properly over time.

Now, 'C' was of course a total fail. They were not widely available, and so the inevitable rush happened and quantities were limited, but for me A plus B was enough to mean i still went after and got them. A unique minifig is a unique minifig, and for a couple of quid i can ignore the small quality issue between these and regular figs.
BUT a price increase will render B null, as a full set starts to become a heavy asking price, and if the price goes up many will NOT ignore the quality difference between regular minifigs and these, as they are now effectively paying a regular figs price. Plus, if we start to see more of the figs appearing in regular (better quality) sets, (such as the Mummy), 'A' will also be null.

I am already feeling the novelty wearing thin, as they are being pushed out way too fast. Each new collectable series should be something to look forward to and enjoy - like a fine wine - over a period of time. It shouldn't be a mad dash blink and you miss it here today gone tomorrow affair. I don't mind buying one or two series per year, but forking out £30 to £50 on the 'n'th series in as many months... my house is only so big, and my pocket only so deep. If collectors get the feeling they'll be unable to afford the pace (or space!), they'll just bail out completely - which is not what lego will want. Especially as 'supermarket mom' will also begin to balk at the price rise of timmy's little treat, and would decide to get something else. It's the old phrase that anybody who has spent any time in a shopping aisle will have heard countless times: "I don't care what it is, I'm not paying THAT much".

To end on a positive, Series 4 looks great.

We should all go on lego.com and rate the CMFs really low to protest the price increase!!!

I'm so not happy about this, If you're gonna raise the price, use the good plastic they use on regular sets!!!!

If they were made from good plastic, thus heads would be a more vibrant yellow, and the legs wouldn't be translucent, and they'd be heavier, then i think its definitely worth 3 bucks.

I noticed this yesterday when i found them at walmart, they were 2.97 and I was kinda bummed, but they had 5 boxes out!! They were heavily picked through but i thought i might find some cool duplicates. ended up picking out 10 and didn't think much of it. When the price rang up at 32 something (thats with tax) I realized thats kinda expensive, i never minded spending 20 bucks here and there on series 2, 20 bucks doesn't really have that big an impact on me, but when i cough up more than 30 I figure I could get a legit set for around that price! 30 bucks was kinda steep, so I returned a couple that day...

@legomatt - I agree with you completely. The minifigs are starting to lose their novelty as they are being pushed out way too fast and I for one am getting a little fed up with it. On a brighter note, the price increase has only been confirmed in the US so far. If you look at the pricing, series 1+2 sold for 1.99 pounds in the UK, 1.99 euros in Europe, and over here in Australia, we had to pay a whopping $4. So in fact, based on current exchange rates, our friends in the US have been getting these minifigs at an absolute bargain (no offense to anyone in the US by the way - it's just that I envy you all!!). By increasing the price in the US, Lego are just bringing them into line with the rest of the world (and still 25% cheaper than what we're paying here). So hopefully (fingers crossed), this increase in price won't be felt worldwide, although if they are, then I'm boycotting these minifigs altogether. $64 for a complete set is more than enough.

@minifig051 - I also found the S3 minifigs at Walmart last night. And interestingly, I also found a discrepancy with the dot/dimple pattern for the Elf. I was mostly just looking for a couple rappers and cyborgs and was successful looking for their dot/dimple patterns. But I stumbled upon 2 elves (by identifying the bow) and yet neither had the characteristic arrow pattern of dimples on the left side that I've been successfully finding for weeks. Since no one knows how these dots/dimples actually work for Lego, I wonder if this is just a one-off discrepancy or perhaps some dot/dimple patterns are not as static as initially thought. And I definitely felt like a moron feeling the bags in the store. :o)

@yellowcastle - not to be a doomsayer but from my background in manufacturing, and dealing with Chinese manufacturers, they could change the dots with each production lot. They only need the dot pattern, from an internal perspective, to make sure they have the right number/mix of figs in a box. For all we know, Lego might want to keep these changing to keep the collectors from breaking the code. But this is purely speculation and I hope that this is just an isolated occurrence.

@Duilim - I fully acknowledge that we have been getting away with way better pricing on the first two series in the states but, even with the better pricing, I have to echo that I'm starting to feel some buyer fatigue...there has been such a short window to actually get a full set and even with getting more supply out, the price jump has been a little hard to swallow since my dollar isn't going as far. I still love the idea of doing collectible figs and I'm still excited for series 4 but just thinking that Lego has confirmed they'll do AT LEAST through series 5, I don't know if I want to keep doing this for much longer...especially since we'll probably see series 5 by next Fall at the rate we're going.

@beefygrefe - that is indeed something I've been wondering. But I can definitely tell you that the original dot/dimple patterns have so far been consistent across 3 different retail chains across the country these past several weeks. But just in case, I definitely stick with the recommendation to follow the dot/dimple patterns while spot checking some as well by feeling the packets. :o)

@yellowcastle: For me, it worked out better feeling the bags. When I went, a employee (who was a Lego fan) and I were feeling the bags while my mom was checking the dots. While we were going through the boxes, some shoppers saw us and were interested in getting some. The extras I got were a Space Villan and a Fisherman. I managed to accidentally get 2 Fisherman because there were 4 boxes there. 2 of them looked like the had some taken, but the 2 in the back were hardly touched. When I went back to get the ones I missed (the Racecar Driver and the Gorilla Suit Guy), I found both of them in 5 minutes. The day before we were there for about an hour and a half. With the dots wierd like this, I think that the feeling method works better.

^Funny, how you got two of the rarest ones on your first try and missed common ones.

This price rise doesn't bother me too much, for this series at least, because first of all I don't have a (much of) a way of getting them outside of S@H. Second, for this series, I was more interested in the common ones (Racecar Driver, Gorilla, Hula Girl, piolet) and a few moderate ones (elf, cyborg, chief, rapper).

I can see how this will be a problem for S4, so --yys4u--, I with you on protesting now.

I just got the whole set on ebay because last time I got loads of packets and dot double so it is just an easier way I think.(I will probably do the same for series 4).
