sale went live yesterday evening and items sold out extremely quickly. 50% off .. incredible deals for the people able to grab them. i wish i'd bought more than i did, but i was in a hurry -- been burnt before having sale items disappear from my cart!

Its always like that, Republic shuttle for £24.99 is too good to be true, it was already sold out at the start of the festive period! I wish i could have gotten the AT-AT but oh well, they might have at least just restocked it at the normal price than try to act like they are giving us a bargain for once.

My only reaction is, why can't LEGO go on Christmas Holidays like everyone else? I know it's stupid but I am very angry at the fact that when I was able to check on this, everything was already sold out. At least I learned a lesson for future years.

Like Huw says, people need to calm down. Many of the Lego sets listed as half off (like Green Grocer) are long gone before this sale. The stores, however, may have these which is why they are listed as on sale but sold out (my guess is most of these are probably sold out at the store by now as well). Although impulse sets like the farmer for 2.00 is a good buy, same with the Jester

Very Disapointed all the best stuff is totally sold out. I would do anything to get anakins y wing, medium bricks and the green grocer at half price but I cant see it happening. Give it a short while and they will all be discontinued. All thats left really is Hero factory and racers junk.

Ebay here they come, lego need to ensure the large stuff is only one per address, I bet some people have cleaned up on this stuff, I got the sale email at 3.00pm today (UK time) saying the sale was live and clicked on the link dstraight away to be confronted by everything worth having being sold out, or call to check availability - which means sold out. Rubbish. For a company who seems to like feedback with surveys and questionnaires being sent to me every so often it doesn't actually look like the marketing people speak to the web site people. Very poor show.

Is it possible that this reduced stuff will be available in the retail Lego-Shops on Monday?

Because most of the sold out stuff was never available for the price (I was on the "old" "special offer" page, refreshed it after 3min and suddenly all the cool things popped up but all were "sold out"). Maybe we should put this to the X-Files ;)

I got on as the sale went live nearly immediately (in the US) and the larger $80-$100 were already sold out, as well as a slew of other sets that I knew were already sold out (Looking at you, Kingdoms Advent Calendar). I don't think they were ever there. However everything else was still in stock and I got the City House and some smaller sets put in and my order was confirmed. However an hour later those sets were all listed as sold out.

I have to admit that LEGO probably never had some of those sets in stock. However, I think you might be treating this sale a bit unfairly. With the exceptions of the top end sets and some harder to find sets, they were all there. But with a great sale there are a lot of people, like me, who wait for these kinds of sales to buy to gobble up what we can. I managed to get my set half off and a few smaller sets for myself. It's not LEGO's fault that other people weren't as quick on this as they could have been.

As HUW said at the beginning of the article most of these items were sold out long before this sale and Lego only listed them on sale. Unless someone comes forward to say they did get these sets, I seriously doubt that the Grand Carousel, Green Grocer, Taj Mahal, etc where in stock when this sale hit. I mean do you really think that lego.com would have Series2 minifigs for only 99 cents?! C'mon people, wake up. The Venerator, Walking At-At and Anakins Y wing were all long gone before the sale as well. The Farm was also gone as well as the combine harvester, although the Pig farms and city house were available it would have been nice to get those on sale.

Now, the Lego Brick and Mortar stores MAY have these in their stock, which is why the sale is listed even for items 'sold out' online. So you may have a chance to find these... I am contemplating whether or not to get up early tomorrow and get to the mall to see if my local Lego store has any pig farms and City townhouses left...

Most of the sets were NEVER actually available during this sale. Some however, were, including the Technic crane truck, walking AT-AT, City House and Ferrari Truck. But the Grand Carousel, Taj Mahal and Green Grocer, along with dozens of others, were never on sale. But if you are lucky enough to find them at your local LEGO store tomorrow...

Like others, I don't believe lego ever had most of the sold out sets in stock. I heard about this sale at about 9pm on christmas eve and went straight on, all the good stuff was already sold out. I did manage to get SW home one for half price plus some other sets that are now sold out, but I'm half expecting them to cancel my order like they did with the 50 % off advent calendars at the start of December. Whether they have these sets for sale in retail stores for these prices or not is irrelevant, if you can't buy it on the website they shouldn't advertise it as being on sale in my opinion.

You can get $7 off your order if you spend over $70. With the limit of 5 you are there.

Atkinsar: I agree with you. Most of the sets had to be sold out or so limited that someone bought the whole lot in one purchase.

I know they didn't have half these sets in stock when they went on sale. I was keeping an eye on Technic 8297, the 2008 flagship, as I suspect this year will be the last to get ahold of it, but it has been sold out since near the beginning of December. Now it's dropped to £50 from £90, I know I'd snap it up in an instant if it was in stock.

I think it's a case of Lego having planned to have these sets on sale after Christmas, but not anticipating that most would be sold out. So they went ahead and put them up anyway so that instore they would also be discounted. And who knows, they might have them back in stock before long :)

Although there were many items that were previously sold out listed in the sale, when the sale began yesterday afternoon, there were A LOT of items that were not sold out. In a matter of 2-3 hours after word began to spread items stock status began to change to "Sold Out"

I'm glad I saw the sale update when it was early in it's launch because I managed to snag quite a few sets.

Is there any guarantee that the brick and mortar Lego Stores will honor the sale prices listed on the Lego S@H webpage? It may sound odd to ask this, but a number of retailers in my area won't honor the prices their own websites list. I'm unaware if Lego Stores share this practice. Otherwise, after having been to my Lego Store last weekend, I know they only have a few of the better sets from this sale. Everything else is out of stock.

I went to lego store in Anaheim, they did have a couple of sets on sale same as the online shop,

the wind turbine was 30 bucks, iI should have bought it i dunno why i didn't....
and some Atlantis robot set
and couple starwars clone wars sets that i have no interest in..

there were a few others but those were actually separated in their own stack

@Captain Blockbeard: It may or may not happen. Once, I went to the store in search of the Indiana Jones Peril in Peru set (regularly $50) for $35. There was no marked sale price. However, one of the staff told us they would honor the online sale price instore.
Another time, I was looking for the Pirates BP on sale instores. They told me they would not match the price, so it seems you'll simply have to see how lucky you are. ;)

Went to the Lego store this morning at Downtown Disney (Anaheim CA) and they had many of the sale sets there, except for those long gone before the sale like the Green Grocer, Carousel, Taj Mahal, and the AT AT, etc. Since the sale just started, the employees were still putting on the stickers. They were very nice and pointed out the sale items to me or checked those that didn't have the stickers. I ended up with the Star Wars sets like the Y-Wing, Republic Attack Cruiser, Tie Defender, and Home One. Sweet deals at half off!!!

checked the sale out at 7.50am christmas morning and was gutted to find all the good stuff had gone (or was never available!), I do feel that lego have let us collectors down on this i'd have loved the taj mahal at that price and had even charged up the credit card in anticipation of the sale - the worst is you can't even call to check availability on the other items- only about 4 stores in the whole of the uk nearest about 150 miles- we in the north have no chance!

LEGO.co.uk seem to have pulled a few of the discounted sets from being 'Sold out' to 'Call to check product availability', so it's worth checking a few times everyday from now until January.

On the plus side, I managed to order the SW Home One and Kingdoms Court Jester sets for 50% off on Christmas Eve ;)

They had a few Venators, but they went quickly, as did one other smaller Clone set. The rest were pretty plentiful. There was a line for awhile, but it quieted down. I bought a Home One, a few Clone battle packs, the two smallest Kingdom sets, and the Pirate Tank.

Great sale, I was tempted to buy much more, but I'm getting excited about the 2011 sets.

like sly said, i was on the sale fairly early and there were many, many sets available. the biggest sets may not have been (as is usual with S@H), but many $100 sets were there for half off. for some reason my home one was priced at $49.98, although they changed it right after i purchased to $54.98.

many people have reported that the things they were trying to buy disappeared from their cart as they were checking out. that has happened to me in the past (farewell, 9V train track) and it was an absolutely infuriating experience. obviously TLG could stand to do a bit of improvement with their online sales.

i appreciated the 50%-off sale very much .. but not the e-mail alert that came at 10 a.m. after the items had gone on sale the previous afternoon!

I just got back from The Lego Store in Tysons Corner, VA and was happy to find a majority of these sets in stock and at 50% Off. The ones I didn't see were Taj Majal, Green Grocer, Carousel, Limo/Helo, Family House, Garage, Construction Site, and any Pirates/SP3/or Farm sets. But they did have all of the PoP sets at 50% Off. Needless to say, I am much poorer today. :o)

I logged online around 3:00pm central and evidently Lego put some Items up that were sold out earlier. I was able to purchase a few City House sets, a couple of Fire Rescue and some Loot Islands. I remember seeing Tie Defenders and Crane trucks available also. These lasted at least 30 min before showing sold out...

Got back from VF LEGO store, I was surprised they had many SW sets on sale. (and other sets listed as 'sold out' online.)

It was crazy; later there were lots of people buying the discounted sets (mostly SW). The LEGO reps probably knew this would happen so they put out reusable LEGO bags for people so they can shop.

Also noticed some Games, PoP, and WR on sale as well.

I had a look Boxing Day evening. A truly pathetic site. A huge list of products, except 3/4 of which were marked as Sold Out, most of the rest were tagged 'Call for Availability' (i.e. as good as sold out), which left a bunch of key rings (yawn) and Bionicle things (a niche market) left as being available. Good people at Lego - why bother? If you're going to have a sale, then sell stuff at a reduced price. That's what the word means.

I went to the Phoenix AZ Lego store. It was packed!!! We bought $300. worth of Lego's for $150. I am so stoked! I got sets for each of my boys and some Star Wars sets for me and my hubby. Also, went to Target across the street. They had new Ninjago, Pharoah's Quest, hero factory, Star Wars.

I did get in the online sale and got 2 city houses before they were all gone. I'll agree that the most desireable sets were very limited or gone before they went on sale. I guess the city houses sales figures weren't very good to make them discontinue it so quickly. That's too bad.

I FINALLY finished my HERO Factory collection with Thunder (only $6), Drop Ship (only $25), and Furno Bike (original price). I HATE that Furno Bike is like that. First off, it's overpriced anyway, second off, it was the only HERO Factory set that wasn't on sale, and third off, I only had enough money for that and the tiny Ocean Speeder (from Atlantis)

The email announcing the sale was sent to us Dec 25, 7:00 am, Pacific Standard time. Saw the email last night, about 6:00 pm. Went online at midnight, most was market 'sold out' by then.

Went to the local Lego store by 1:00 pm. Bought $130 of the stuff I liked, but the store told me that a regular got there at 9:00 pm and bought $2200 worth of Legos!

I'm surprised to see so many people discovering that the LEGO sales is a sham. Every six months, the same phenomenon happens: sold out items are shown 50% off. Find the trick. For the available items, do not try and buy around 8:00 AM the first morning of the sales, or it will be too late. The problem is:
* available amount of copies for sale is never known (and if they were, it would not help);
* TLC pretends to be selling items that are, like Huw said, long sold out. The least we can say is that this is not a very honest way of trading.

The question is: can we do anything about this state of things? I doubt it. The consequence is that we'll never take a look at these so-called sales, as they disgust so much.

have spoken with lego this morning and all products showing call to check availibility are infact sold out in the uk - i have suggested that the sale be open to vip collectors a day early which they seemed to think was a good idea so we shall see! they do seem to understand that it's the AFOL that spend the most on a regular basis.

If you visited your local Lego store over the weekend and struck out, you may want to try again. I hit the Anaheim store yesterday and made out pretty well on medium-sized sets, but went back tonight to find stacks of 1/2 price Venators and Home Ones that they definitely didn't have in stock yesterday by afternoon. They got in a big shipment today (including all the new Star Wars sets), and I have to assume many of the other stores did as well. Still plenty of sale items out there across most product lines including City, Atlantis, PoP, Power Miners, Technic, Creator, Duplo (except Cars).

Of topic, but worthy, Target has their Christmas items on clearance, including the Lego Polybags that were in their seasonal section. My local store is at 50% off now making their $3.99 polybags, $1.99. Next stop for clearance price, is 75%, (likely today, tomorrow, next day) which would put a $3.99 poly at $.99. It probably would not hurt to scan any poly's you find near the registers as well, during the clearance.

Still no ser 3 at target, but wal-mart has them $3.97 (and some ser 2 for $1.97)

This is off-topic, but I went to my not-so-local Lego brand store yesterday. They had a lot of sets at 50% off. They had some of the new 2011 sets, but none of the ones I wanted. :(
I did get the last two clone battle packs (2010 version) at $5.99 each! I also got the Pizza Planet truck http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=7598-1, World Racers Snake Canyon http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=8896-1, and the Court Jester http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=7953-1, all at half-off! My brother got the AAT http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=8018-1 for half-off too. They didn't have any S3 minifigs either.

You guys need to calm done. I manged to be at 2 minutes early before the sale started. Before the sale, I saw that the Green Grocer, Lego City Police Station, Creator house, train tracks, farm, and other city stuff were sold out. When the sale started Lego was trying to trick you to think that those items were in stock( they weren't) so you would be paranoid and want to buy other Lego sets. However i did manage to grab a deal for the 8403 City house for $19.98 USD

The sets that were half off were already sold out a long long time ago.
