The Vikings are coming!

Actually, they are already here, the Vikings minifig gallery is now live...

The Vikings sets successfully combined models that were pretty good in terms of historical accuracy and creatures from Norse mythology: dragons, serpents and wolves. The five sets released in 2005 were excellent; the two from 2006 not so, in my opinion. I had to BrickLink some of the figs from 2006 since I don't have both sets. The gallery is complete and includes all minifigs from regular sets, but it does exclude the glued ones in the chess set which were probably made in China and therefore of no interest to me.

It is interesting to note that the torso for warrior 4 was later used (in a different color of course) in the Castle series that began in 2007. I didn't notice it myself for a while.

By the way, great job on these galleries. I enjoy looking through them.

Thank you so much for these minifigure galleries Huw! They are GREAT!

Posted by Zrath in United States, 27 Feb 2011 15:21

Zrath: "You said 'dragons' twice."
Huw: "I like dragons!" :D
(A little nod to Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles")

You know Huw, it may seem as though you're having to BrickLink a lot of minifigures, but look on the bright side; now you have many more minifigs! This is such a great gallery and I can't wait to see more coming. Thanks for the effort!

Posted by brickmatt in United States, 27 Feb 2011 15:37

I was just noticing, you changed the position of the hands in the photos. Also, do you know which gallery you're going to do next?

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 27 Feb 2011 15:40

Awesome! Nice new gallery. Hmm...Viking king. Viking king...it sounds weird, don't you think?

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 27 Feb 2011 16:13

I didn't get any, but they looked interesting.

Posted by rabk295 in United States, 27 Feb 2011 16:40

The Viking Heavy Artillery is actually a favorite of mine.... the playability makes it a great set in my eyes. Each to their own, however. Thanks a bunch for keeping these minifig galleries coming, it's very nice to see all the detail in the figs.

Thanks for the great new gallery Huw! Any chance of SW anytime soon?

Posted by SapmiSatan in Norway, 27 Feb 2011 17:36

As a Norwegian, I've got to say: I hate these horned vikings! Yes, I know, you can pull of the horns and make proper viking helmets, but these minifigures just adds to the popular belief that vikings had horns on their helmets, they did not. It's silly. I see the new, "Series 4" collectable minifigure has horns as well, ugh...

Anybody else realize that they are sorted by torso type?

Posted by Pepper in United States, 27 Feb 2011 18:59

@Berrybrick- I do.

Posted by cjg in United States, 27 Feb 2011 19:02

@TooMuchLEGO: It kinda sounds like Vi king king.

@Huw: "the two from 2006 not so, in my opinion" 7020 has one of the best shooting action in any LEGO set though

Posted by rainstorm26 in United States, 27 Feb 2011 20:48

Agreed 7020 is an awesome set. The shooting mechanism is superior to anything else I have seen from Lego. We used to use it for targeting stand alone minifigs and it was very accurate.

Awesome Huw! Thanks for creating yet another great gallery.
After looking at it, realized how many different minifigs there was.

Posted by CharlieTheFunEngine in Australia, 28 Feb 2011 02:11

Wow, I never paid any attention to this theme but I now wish I had some of the minifigs, especially the King!

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 28 Feb 2011 02:25

Hey Huw...please forgive me for asking (perhaps this was already answered in another thread)...but is there a way to show the accessories (weapons, shields...anything really) that come with each particular figure for the entire Minifig gallery you're compiling?
For me, I get loose figs from time to time and sometimes I'm not sure if I've gotten the right weapon or the right color for an accessory for that fig.

Posted by chantastic in United States, 28 Feb 2011 03:06

I agree with what others have said about the great shooting mechanism in 7020 but would also like to add that the set also came with 7 minifigs for only US$30. It was a great set.

Really good gallery! Reminds me of the set I got.

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 28 Feb 2011 05:51

@legoDad42: Have you tried downloading instruction manuals for the figs/sets you have, they might show you the weapons etc that the set comes with, and sometimes show one or two examples of fig/accessory combinations in the opening pages (or in photos at the back).

Vikings: Did anyone else find the viking shield stickers peeled/crumbled over time. Mine did.

Posted by Tervlon in United States, 28 Feb 2011 11:12

The Chess set vikings were glued? I remember them being taken apart by my younger brothers, am I imagining things?

Posted by PaulTR in United States, 28 Feb 2011 11:19

Yet another fantastic gallery from you, Huw! It's become the norm for you to release awesome galleries, apparently! I personally liked the 7018 Viking Ship. I especially liked the sea serpent. Pity I never bought the set, because I could have really used the figs:(

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 28 Feb 2011 12:17

@legomatt....I've definitely done that but I was hoping to see it here in the galleries Huw's putting up to be more handy, instead of downloading.

Posted by youngtom in United States, 28 Feb 2011 12:26

Which Minifig Galleries are coming up next?
Cool Minifig Gallery!

Posted by Nelly7072 in United States, 28 Feb 2011 12:55

Huw, is there a head swap mistake between "vik024 - Viking Warrior 2c" and "vik025 - Viking Warrior 5e"? I checked Bricklink and the instructions for set 7021 and it looks different to me.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 28 Feb 2011 13:28

^ I think you're right: those 2006 figs came from BrickLink and I'm sure I didn't mix them up, maybe they came like that. I'll get them re-photographed.

Huw

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 28 Feb 2011 14:41

^^ I've re-done the images, do let me know if they look OK now as I do want the pictures to be accurate and match the BrickLink ones.

Posted by Luigi78 in United States, 28 Feb 2011 17:42

I don't think any of my Chess minifigs were glued, with the exception of the non-minifig pieces such as the rook.

Posted by The Beast in United States, 28 Feb 2011 18:43

You should do World Racers next

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 28 Feb 2011 19:32

I definitely say to put up the Chess Set figs. to make a complete, thorough minifig gallery.

Posted by mission_zed in United Kingdom, 01 Mar 2011 11:21

I'd heard of the Viking sets, but had never paid much attention to them. I must confess, I'm surprised by how odd the helmets look, like they're not properly sat on the minifig's head. And the medival balaklava guy looks ... frustrated.

Also - what is the logic of the groupsings ? Two versions of the King make sense, but what is the reasoning behind grouping the warriors ? Where they randomly assigned to the same set ?

Nice pics as always, cannot wait for more.

Posted by herolegoman in United Kingdom, 01 Mar 2011 14:02

Huw when are you going to do star wars i can not wiat for them thanks

Posted by Brickmatic in United States, 01 Mar 2011 21:28

Great job on the galleries. I really am enjoying them all, especially this one. Thank you Huw for putting it together!

Also, I don't think the chess set should be added, at least not to this gallery. It wasn't really part of the standard lineup in this theme.

Posted by unleashed in United States, 02 Mar 2011 20:55

All right, I don't think you can possibly release another gallery thats not star wars, so please do it next! Or maybe you've ben doing it since the beginning, but there is too many. Understood!

Posted by youngtom in United States, 03 Mar 2011 10:37

You should make a Minifig Gallery called Gear.
