    I've started a new minifig gallery today for Adventurers minifigs. I've added the minifigs that appeared in the first Adventurers sets released in 1998 and over the next few days I'll hopefully add the rest, right up to 2003.

    There were some great figs in the series, as you will see. Somehing else you'll notice is that the printing on the torsoes was not as good back then as it is today. On Gail Storm, left, for example, you can see thin lines where the paint has run. Of course when you hold them and view them life-size you don't notice it but at this magnification it's clear to see.

Ah Adveturers my favourite theme. It's brilliant to see them all like this. I'm fairly sure that Harry Cane was a "goodie" though.

I love it that you have called the two cathegories "Goodies" and "Baddies"! :) BTW, I don't think Harry Cane is a baddie... From the set boxes, he doesn't seem evil...

Regarding the printing: I don't find the smudges surprising. The "printers" were used up to this point for very simple patterns, and they struggled a bit with these new complicated ones!

I think Harry Cane was a 'Goodie'. According to LEGO, he was a pilot who gave Johnny Thunder a lift occasionally.

I love Adventurers, so this is a pleasent surprise. Although Barron Von Baron was called Sam Sinister in America as far as I remember. And Harry Cane was a "goodie".

Awesome pics! I love the whole "Goodies" and "Baddies" thing. I was never a Lego fan when Adventurers was around so this doesn't have as much effect as a Star Wars Minifig Gallery would have on me, but I've always been interested in Adventurers so maybe some day I'll buy a set off eBay.

Wow - there are so few considering how many sets were produced.....
I in no way consider myself a collector of this theme yet still seem to have amassed all but 2 of the minifigs.
I'm glad we have a spiritual successor in Pharaoh's Quest now.

Good deal. I loved that theme...Johhny Thunder and the gang. Not terribly fond of the new take off we have now, though (mainly, I suppose, because of the "tough adventurer" girl...).

My favorite theme, today is a good day. . . . Now if only they had been the heroes for Pharaoh's Quest 2011 would almost be perfect (LEGOwise anyway)! One of the things I love about this theme is that Mr. Hates (Baron) is considered by some to be the last true SYSTEM villians as he wasn't a comic relief. I may be wrong, but Adventurers is considered a classic theme (I mean, they don't just bring any theme back after a three year pause).

Ahh, the good old Adventure theme! My first LEGO set, in fact, was the classic 5918 Scorpion Tracker car. My brother and I got 2 of them for Christmas when I was 6 years old. Alas, I have no idea what happed to the sets:(
Anyways, great gallery as usual, Huw! I actually own pretty much all of these figs, but I don't have the sets they came with.

@Huw: The guy in the black top hat (with no hook hand) was called Slyboots, not Sam Sinister. Also, the guy with the hook was called Mr. Hates, not Baron von Baron.

@Pepper: They called the Sam Sinister character Mr. Hates in the Egypt theme.. He was later called Sam Sinister in the Dino themes, and also in the India/China/Mt. Everest themes.

Nice quality pictures, though a few comments:

1. The Adventurers theme is not simply divided into "Goodies" and "Baddies". There's a "Neutral" party involved, and that's where characters like Pharaoh Hotep, Achu, and Gabarros would fall. And you could probably use the terms "Heroes" and "Villains" instead, since "Goodies" and "Baddies" sounds... unsophisticated, and the characters have never really been referred to as "Goodies" and "Baddies", but they have been on occasion referred to as "Heroes" and "Villains".

2. The Adventurers line is infamous for its renamed characters. Dr. Charles Lightning was renamed "Dr. Kilroy", Gail Storm was renamed "Ms. Pippin Reed", Baron von Barron was renamed "Lord Sam Sinister", and Sam Sinister (NOT "Lord" Sam Sinister) was renamed "Slyboots". You probably want to include both names for clarification, especially since the Orient Expedition line goes by the new names (which would cause confusion with Baron von Barron and Sam Sinister).

3. More of a question, but will you be including the LEGO Studios adventurers figs? There are at least two Gail Storm/Pippin Reed figs and one Mike fig that are exclusive to this line.

There were actually four versions of Pippin exclusive to that line (Five if you count the vintage figure with the incorrect torso).

Although BrickLink isn't always accurate about everything. For example, if I remember correctly, BrickLink misidentifies Rudo Villano as "Max Villano", and I think Gabarros is also mislabeled "Gabarro".

It's just that the problems arise with Orient Expedition's Lord Sam Sinister character. He is clearly meant to be the same character as Baron von Barron, but unless Baron von Barron is alternatively identified as "Lord Sam Sinister" and the original Sam Sinister is alternatively identified as "Slyboots", this might arise confusions.

I'm thinking that perhaps each renamed Minifig's name could be written as "[original] / [rename]". For example:

"Dr. Charles Lightning / Dr. Kilroy"
"Gail Storm / Pippin Reed"
"Baron von Barron / Lord Sam Sinister"
"Sam Sinister / Slyboots"

Actually in America the "renames" are the official names that we have had since 1998 when the theme was first released.

Update: Wow, Johnny has appeared in 21 sets in that variation alone!

I always enjoyed the Adventurers theme, I thought it was really fun. Egypt, the Amazon, Dinosaur Island and then the Far East, I always loved the exotic nature of the theme. Plus, some of those sets kick butt in a town setting (like the planes and some of the old cars).

Hey all, newbie here. My sons and I have been collecting about 5 years now.

I just wanted to comment on the observation about the quality of the torso designs. I used to collect old Hot Wheels. I believe that the older figs are TAMPO printed just like Hot Wheels were back then. I think the new stuff is transfer printed, so it's way more accurate and clean. If you are not familiar with the tampo process, it's basically an INK, not paint, that is picked up by a silicone pad and deposited onto the part. It's a special ink that gets tacky very fast so it sticks to the pad and then is pressed onto the torso, in this case, and is left sticking to the part. It's a two stroke process for each color used. This system has some trouble with registration of multiple colors though. That's why some figs deco looks blurry. Under magnification, you can see minute threads of ink trailing off some of the deco. Just go to YouTube and type in "pad printing" to see all you ever wanted to know about it.

Whenever I put figs together I always select the best printed pieces I have.

I'd like to clear up the names issue to the best of my ability- I'll go by character because that seems easiest:

Johnny Thunder: No contradictions here. Johnny was known as Sam Grant (and Joe Freeman?) originally outside the US.
Pipin Reed: Originally Gail Storm in the US, Pipin was later renamed so for Dino Island or Orient Expedition, and was originally known by another name, Linda Lovely, outside the US.
Dr. Kilroy: Originally known as Dr. Charles Lightning, and Professor Articus outside the US. Changed to Dr. Kilroy for Dino Island/Orient Expedition
Baron von Baron: ...was his original US name, but he was originally Mr. Hates otherwise. This named slipped to the US through the Lego Island 2 game. He was renamed Sam Sinister for Dino Island, and began dressing like the original Sam Sinister in Orient Expedition.
Sam Sinister: ...was his original US name. He was referred to as Sly Boots outside the US. When Baron took Sam's name, Sam was changed to Sly Boots in the US as well.

I think that's all of them... Oh yeah, in addition to Hotep being the international name, he was simply Pharaoh's Mummy in the US.
