Feeling the bag is much easier than trying to read the dots. Plus, I noticed that the patterns changed with series 3 depending on where and when I bought them.

I just bought 21 series 4 minifigs at my toys r us and got 14 out of the 16! I need the Ice skater, and the Viking. I did find two Hazmat guys but I only took one. By the way Like legokenny said, i just felt around with my hands and was able to identify most of them!

If any one is willing to trade, i have:

1-sailor
1-soccer player
1-artist
1-frankenstein monster

Last night i asked them to hold them for me which they did, they held 16 and they said they had a full box, but when i got there this morning they only had about 30 left + the 16 they were holding for me!

The Musketer, Punk Rocker and Hockey Player all have really similar patterns but seeing as they are the main 3 I want then I suppose it doesn't really matter :)

I agree that the dots are too difficult to read. With series 3 I just spent a little time feeling the packets. I managed to get all 16 in a week, no swaps, 100% success. I think series 4 has enough identifiable pieces to repeat this process, just need to be prepared to get some funny looks.

reading the dots is not worth the time, feeling is the way to go.
BTW the Hazmat dude is my favorite so far. so many of this series are great.. no sumo's or crash test dummies here.

I never got into the whole Collectable Minifigs theme because I figured that if I bought one I would have to have them all! :)

But if I did get into them I'd be buying a lot on Amazon and eBay, I wish Lego would just keep all the Series around for a while, then I would buy them!

I'm finding that the collectible minifigures are coming out too quickly. In my part of the world, series 3 came out in February. The question I'm currently pondering is that series 4 came out early in the USA, but will it still come out on April 1 where I live or will I have to wait until May? Series 4 has too many good minifigures for me to pass on this collection. I will skip series 5 since the minifigures don't look good at all though.

The fantastic review on euro bricks suggested a distribution, just wondering if anyone has managed to confirm the distirbution.

IMO using dot decoders kind of kills the point of collecting. If you get more than one Rocker, form a band. If you get more than 1 ice skaters, form an ice skating team. But on the plus side, Series 4 is out? Better make a trip to TRU...

I'm not sure how they feel at my TRU about me feeling up the minifigures, but I do know that my activity in the Lego aisle when I bought some Series 3 before Christmas seemed to attract people and next thing you know I'm feeling minifgures up for other people! A crowd literally formed right around the 3 or 4 boxes of figures within 10 minutes after I started trying to find the 5 or so figs I still needed. I helped tons of people find the figure or figures they were looking for. Interestingly enough, everyone seemed to want something different. It wasn't like they were all out for the elf or fisherman like many collectors. I know not everyone is like this, but you know they're out there. Anyway, I have to believe that more people bought figures that night because I started feeling them up. TRU sold more figures, people got what they wanted, and (at least when I left) the boxes weren't picked over. Many people even commented that they would not have purchased them if it was a blind draw. (partly due to the fact that they were marked up to $3.99) Personally, I am torn on the idea of a blind draw vs. knowing what's in there, but I do know that $3.99 is too much for me to spend without knowing what I am getting, and even $2.99 is a bit much so I will continue to choose by feel.

I helped some kid at Toys R Us when I got all 16 (no duplicates) of Series 2 minifigs using barcodes. After I got what I needed, I tried giving him the barcodes, but he didn't understand the concept so I just helped him find the two minifigs he wanted.
Anyways, I really like the looks of Series 4. My Easter money is going towards these guys. I'm actually hoping for some of the more common ones: Punk Rocker, Hockey Player, and the Hazmat guy. I want this whole Series, but because I'm saving up for Summer set's I'll probably only be able to get my top 5. It seems that I'll only every entirely own Series 2... Oh well, I'd rather have Summer sets with good quality than some cheap minfigs.

the LEGO store i work at still has aprox 25 boxes of series 3 minis. if the trend continues, we should be getting a boat load of the series 4 minis in two weeks. it seems like a bunch of the stores still have them.

i will sell lot of four minifigures series 4 for 2.50 each or 10 dollars for all of them!

by the way i heard some rumors that the hazmat guy would be t he hardest to find and that there were only two in each box!

but my TRS had a half picked over box and still had 3 hazmat guys in it not including the one that i bought! He is easy to find because you can feel the big helmet inside!

I still need series 4 viking and ice skater to complete my collection, does anyone have those?

Cool! It looks like our two independent decoding attemps came out very close. Here are the changes I see on mine (http://www.minifigcollector.com/) vs achillespdx (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaredboehm/5536241594/):

1. My packages have "502B1" instead of "402B1". I don't know how that affects the bumpcodes, so the following changes may be because of that.
2. Viking - I see a fourth dot on the right hand side around the B.
3. Soccer Player - I see a third dot on the right around the 1.
4. Werewolf - I didn't initially see the top two dots on the right (I'm looking closer now).
5. Artist - I see a third dot on the "B" and a consistent pattern of "lines" next to the right-most dot.

The additional dots I put down are all pretty hard to tell (they're in the letters), but I'm pretty confident they're there.

@Rich69: Here's the distribution I got:

Thanks for the number. I called TRU and confirmed only one store in Kansas City (MO/KS) has any. Once again they had them at the counter (so I felt a little odd feeling up the bags with people waiting in line behind me). TRU put a limit of 5 per customer so my wife and I were only able to grab 10. The bar codes were pretty good, but still hard to read (especially the Soccer player which seemed to have the dots on the right side in the numbers if they were there). We ended up with:
3x Soccer Player
1x Kimono Girl
1x Surfer Girl
1x Crazy Scientist
1x Sailor
1x Lawn Gnome
1x Werewolf
1x The Monster

All are awesome. Werewolf was hardest to tell, until we realized he had a bone (thought it might be the ice skater and what we felt was a skate). Soccer player was easiest (trophy) but we ended up with so many because I could not feel them up and we thought we had the scientist (if you feel a single stud it is the soccer player for the bottom of the trophy not a stopper for the flask, flask is all one piece), or the street skater or even the hazmat guy (like I said that second dot on right does not exist on some).

RPMKris- I know, but mine isn't closing. Borders hasn't made a profit since 2006, they usually have 1 box labeled and another freshly opened one that isn', after going yesterday to get an Elf, Cheif and Cyborg, the had none of them, so I picked randomly and got a Space Alien, Mummy and Cyborg, all of which are very nice, especially the Alien and Cyborg.

I just stopped into the TRU in Des Moines, IA yesterday and between my girlfriend and I, we bought 26 of the 40 that were left in the only box. Out goal was any Hazmat Guy and then one of each of the rest, we were able to get 15 of 16 plus 2 extra Hazmat by doing a little feeling of the bags once we were back home, and then we returned the 9 unopened we had. We then went back and found the Surfer Girl which was the last one we needed. So over all just using the feel method alone we got 16/16 of the figures and 2 extra Hazmat Guys without any wrong openings. Good luck to everyone finding the figures they want!

I found some at my local TRU. I didn't get a chance to use the dot sheet from flickr, but did use the one from Minifigcollector, which I found to be accurate. The ones that I have checked are all correctly pictured on the sheet.

On a more random note, I was happily surprised with the Soccer Player minifigure. The trophy stand actually isn't a 1x1 cone, it's actually a black fez and 1x1 round stud. The fez in the new color is a great addition to minifig collections. :)

Picked up 26 at Fred Meyer in Richland, WA today. Will decode what I hauled in later on, just went for the obvious ones I was looking for and passed on others. The dots suck. Just use the "feely" method, much faster and you can usually make a positive ID with the accessories. The Hazmat and the Geisha are the easiest to feel. Was able to find several guitarists, but again will give the play by play later tonight. Happy hunting.

I think the werewolf was also easy to find, it was the skinniest package and his bone was in the corner of the bag. The surfer girl was also an easy find along with the gnome.

@madforlegos ...it's true that I am promoting my own listing, but I also sell the series in sets of 16. In my opinion, the better deal per figure should be purchased. You can always resell the ones you don't want for at least $0.15 - $0.25 more than you got them for. Usually $1.00 more.

Anyway, I'd say it was a bad deal if they weren't selling, but that's just it.

I have found that the painter is tricky and the viking as well. The shield of the viking can seem like something else and the handle of his axe feels a bit like a paint brush. The head of the axe comes separately so feel for the shield, the axe handle and the axe head. Any spottings yet at WalMart??

The only problem with the dots that were listed is that every time I get a werewolf code it's a Hockey Player, and every time I get a Hockey Player code, it's also a Hockey Player. :( Wonder where the Werewolves went?
