Pictorial reviews of Pirates of the Caribbean sets

  • Pictorial reviews of Pirates of the Caribbean sets

Posted by Huw, 31 Mar 2011 13:52. Filed under Brickset.

Brickset member VerSen from Russia has their hands on some of the PotC sets and has posted some excellent pictorial reviews on a Russian website, www.phantoms.su:

    - Cannibal Escape
    - Whitecap Bay
    - Isla de la Muerta

I can't understand a word of what's been written but luckily the pictures speak for themselves: I can't wait to get my hands on them! (thanks Capt. Thomas Foolery for the news).

Some of those new pieces look really good!

Posted by CWedin in United States, 31 Mar 2011 14:26

Awesome!

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 31 Mar 2011 14:34

am interested in whitecap bay for the pieces. Also, if you open page in Google Chrome you can translate the page and understand most of it.

Posted by zaxter2001 in United States, 31 Mar 2011 14:49

I did the exact same @ncbarrett. Works like a charm. Oh, and I WANT THESE! it's killing me having to wait so long for these sets to be released :P but maybe by then i can save up some money to get them.

Posted by cjg in United States, 31 Mar 2011 14:51

^^ I did that too. :P

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 31 Mar 2011 14:52

Interesting that the text on the boxes is in English, is that normal?

Posted by TopperTwist in United States, 31 Mar 2011 15:32

I'll probably get a few PotC sets, but I'd rather save up for the NinjaGo and Alien Conquest coming out this Summer :D

Posted by TheLEGOmaniac in Denmark, 31 Mar 2011 15:39

Why are the gold bars pearl gold?! They should be metallic, like the pictures show >:-(

Posted by refriedbeans in United States, 31 Mar 2011 16:03

@TheLEGOmaniac I know I was like why!!!!

Posted by Seagull in United States, 31 Mar 2011 16:15

AWESOME!! :D

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 31 Mar 2011 16:15

I want those!!!

Posted by aragorn_10 in United States, 31 Mar 2011 16:33

Wow these are pretty sweet pics. I'm looking forward to the release of the Pirates theme, with all the new pieces and such.

Posted by voyanui8768 in United Kingdom, 31 Mar 2011 16:53

Hopefully the same thing will happen to these as what happened to the POP sets - half price at the disney store! Because I'm not liking the looks of the price tags...
...£71.99 for Whitecap bay! Goodness gracious :(

Posted by natro220 in United States, 31 Mar 2011 16:57

@voyanui8768 Highly doubtful these will not sell well...POTC has a HUGE following, the first three movies are among the biggest box office smashes of all time. POP was not quite as successful in the theatres.

POTC also coincides with one of Lego's alltime greatest themes - Pirates. No doubt that will attract the fans who aren't into themed sets but still want the new Pirate-y pieces.

Jack Sparrow on a spit, hilarious! :) I can't wait for these to arrive, they look amazing! Oh God, my wallet, oh God...

Posted by Orange Lemons in United States, 31 Mar 2011 17:35

^ I know, my wallet's gonna lose a lot of weight this year. ;) My main issue for these sets is the price tag and all the other sets I gotta buy this year too.

Posted by legogirl19 in United States, 31 Mar 2011 18:38

WOW!!! Not really any other way to put it!! I simply can not wait for the release of these, and I am even more exstatic to learn that the rumors of "only On Stranger Tides themes" were just that! Soo many new great pieces!!! I think I'm in the same "boat" LOL as everyone else---lighter wallet once these come out!

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 31 Mar 2011 18:46

Nice pictures, now I see that the gold bars are just pearl gold. I'm planning on buying every POTC set, they all look great.

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 31 Mar 2011 18:55

These new POTC sets are looking very detailed. I honestly think I will be buying these for just Mr. Sparrow!

Posted by Batmissile in United States, 31 Mar 2011 18:58

I believe the reserve Jack minifig is based on the sequence from the series where Sparrow diguises himself as a tree with full tree bark face paint.

Posted by bionicle212 in United States, 31 Mar 2011 18:58

I'm not realy a pirate fan, but these look realy cool! and has anyone noticed whitecap bay instructions are in a plastic bag with the card board back up?

Posted by K-nut in United States, 31 Mar 2011 19:54

The figs in this line are absolutely gorgeous! If I had the money and time, I'd pick up each and everyone of these sets. Luckily I have a translator button on this computer so I can read the reviews. Just have to love those new gold bars and boats in black.
^ I didn't notice that! Maybe this is a sign of change because I only thought they bagged them in big sets like Diagon Alley. But again, this set is like $80 USD or something.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 31 Mar 2011 20:08

I love the new mermaid figures, as well as the transparent bottles! How beautiful are those?

And that Whitechapel Bay set, that looks like a really brilliant general-purpose seaside building. I like that.

Posted by Sky-guardian in United States, 31 Mar 2011 21:02

Wow! Great reviews!

Posted by PaulTR in United States, 31 Mar 2011 21:36

Fantastic figs!

Posted by AETerry in United States, 31 Mar 2011 22:18

I want these! Love 'em!

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 31 Mar 2011 23:51

I love the ship in the bottle. The pieces, minifiures and colors are great, the sets themselves could use a little more detail for the price they want. The posters are a neat thing to add to the sets if they aren't all dented.

Posted by Zelyonii-Zaktan in Russian Federation, 01 Apr 2011 00:16

Yes, these reviews are great and the sets too - Isla de la Muerta is my favorite one. And I'm a happy Russian who can easily read the whole text of each review ))

Posted by legowomen1980p in United States, 01 Apr 2011 00:44

what I didn't like about the sets are the GOLD bars, in the picture of the box they look metallic, but in the open toy they look gold in color and not metallic.

This set will be worth mint though.. Thank you TLC I will have to take out a Loan on my 401K to get these sets.. going to buy at least 20 of them.. I bet you they will resell for at least $50 a set when they discontinue them..

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 01 Apr 2011 01:26

These all look great. This theme will definately be in the top 10 greatest themes along with gaildor of course.:D ;)

Posted by legohpcity in Sweden, 01 Apr 2011 03:31

use google translate - its easy

Posted by imakarov in Russian Federation, 01 Apr 2011 13:23

Being one of the administrators of the Russian LEGO related forum these reviews are posted I'd like to add a couple of interesting facts about the reviews and their author:

1) The author of the reviews nicknamed "VerSen" is female AFOL who's main occupation is photography.
2) VerSen has made dozens of LEGO sets reviews and posted them at www.phantoms.su and maybe one can find her reviews at eurobricks.com

Using Google web-translate you can browse to VerSen's reviews and hopefully you'll like them!

Many thanks for your attention to our small country :)

Herewith I would like to thank all of you found my foto review as usefull. I'm proud by the fact Lego fans can have an oppurtunity to be familiar with new set until official release of it.
