The price in my country is around 135USD for a whole box of series three, less than 45USD for a complete set, and about 2.60 USD for a random bag. So far it doesn't look like the prices are going to go up for series 4, which makes the US price seem rather high (compared to US standards, which usually is at least 25% lower than ours for any given product.) From the looks of it, TLC saw the CM market in the U.S. and jacked the price up knowing everyone would still eat it up.

To be honest, the Gnome, the Viking, the Hazmat Guy, and the Werewolf (for the hair alone) are the only ones that I care about collecting this time around. With that being said, even these four are items that I can pass on. In S3, I knew I would be hunting down numerous Elves (arguably the best MiniFig ever offered). Thank goodness I found 4.

I think that this whole 'MiniFig Series' run was a great idea at first. However, at the frequency that the the TLG is putting them out - coupled with redundancy of certain themes - this is starting to wear thin on me. They also seem a little 'cheap' in production value. I will be passing on searching the bags out in stores and wait for them to come up for auction on BL and eBay. I see no value in collecting them anymore.

I think that if TLG would issue more Collectible MiniFigs that would were more in tune with the themes of LEGO (Castle, City, Space, etc.), I would find more interest in them. Why not release some of the older issues of Classic LEGO themes? More Pirates -such as the Blue Imperial and the Admiral? Castle with re-issued Shields? Classic Space? More unique City Workers? I think for some of AFOLs that came out of the 'dark age' this would make the MF Series that much more enticing.

Yeah, I know, it sounds like I am being a downer... maybe I am.

You can get them from amazon for the same price and with free shipping. Series 3 are also reduced to £1.50 - with free shipping. In the UK anyhow.

I still see loads of series 3 in the shops, so guess there won't be the mad dash to get series 4 knowing that there likely to be on shelves for a while (unlike series 1 & 2).

I have a full set (as you have noticed from the gallery :-) ) but I just can't really get excited about them, or be doing with collecting multiples: the quality is just so disappointing. The design of the parts is excellent, the printing is superb but... the plastic is such a low grade that despite these pluses they just feel cheap and nasty.

Is it that in China they don't have a supply of quality ABS granualate or that LEGO are cutting corners and sourcing cheap raw materials to maximise profits? Whatever happened to 'only the best is good enough?' OKK must be turning in his grave...

I'm pretty certain it is to do with the pressure they use in the moulding process; higher pressure leads to denser plastic in the final product. If the moulds can take the increased pressure, you end up with bricks that have higher tolerances, greater stability, lower rate of wear, less translucency, etc. It's more expensive to do, the moulds wear out quicker, you use slightly more ABS granules, etc.,

/\ i totally agree, /\ and i think the choices for the figures have been poorer, i loved most of S1 and a good portion of S2 but S3 really lost it's appeal and S4 only has a few good minifigs (in my opinion)

I have to echo Huw's sentiments. Even though I absolutely love some of the designs of the current series, I look at the earlier ones I own and they really lack in quality in terms of strength, clutch power and colour, and then decide I really don't want to purchase any of the new ones because I'll just be disappointed.

I agree with aplbomr79 - TLG is putting these out at way too close together. Fortunately I have the resources to buy them when I want and in quantity, but if the target market for these is kids, then I would be a pretty frustrated kid. There would be no way I would have the money to collect them as fast as TLG puts them out. As a kid this would just lead me to give up on collecting them at all (maybe this is one reason - along w/ the cost increase - why Series 3 were/are still on shelves everywhere).

IMO, I think TLG should have taken the Playmobil approach. Limit it to just one new series per year and maybe split it in half so that half come out in January and half in July/August. The anticipation would be much higher and we would all be talking about how we just couldn't wait for the next group to come out. Instead we are talking about how we're kind of getting bored, or at least worn out by them.

The quality of series 4 mini-figures is horrid. The hands on some of the mini-figures are difficult to turn/move while other mini-figures feel loose like they've been heavily played with even if they're new right out of the packaging. I got two figure skaters. One had the skirt, the other did not. Basically, one figure skater was missing an accessory. This is similar to series 3 where I got two pilots. One was normal and the other pilot came with the Tribal Chief head. Another figure that is problematic for series 4 is the painter. The paint brush is difficult to fit into his hand. If you force it into his hand you can scratch and damage the handle of the paint brush. The quality control is quite poor for series 4. For series 4, I found that the hair and hat pieces are difficult to fit onto the mini-figures head, which was not a problem for the first three series'. The quality for series 4 mini-figures seems more like something MEGA BLOKS would come out with, not LEGO.

Also, the dot patterns don't work. I managed to get 12 of the 16 mini-figures (forgot my dot sheet at home) by buying 20 packs with 16 different looking dot patterns. I went back to the store with the dot sheet to try and find the 4 that I needed. I ended up with all duplicates except for one mini-figure. I got that one mini-figure not because of the dot patterns, but because I felt the bag and realized it was the hazmat guy.

The terrible quality issues with series 4 wouldn't be that bud but they've jacked up the price for an inferior product. I bought series 1 and 2 for $2.86 even though the regular retail price was $2.99. I ended up getting series 3 at $2.99 a piece. I found series 4 for $3.28 but the regular price is $3.50/mini-figure.

LEGO has also been coming out with each new batch of mini-figures too quickly. I think more thought needs to go into offering unique/rare mini-figures and even bringing back some of the classics like discontinued Pirates, Castle, Space and a number of rare themed mini-figures for example.

The declining quality, increased price, the fact that these come out too quickly, the repetition in mini-figures (e.g., surfer and skateboarder repeating across multiple series') means that I will no longer be buying collectible mini-figures. On top of that the selection of mini-figures in the series 5 collection doesn't appeal to me (except for the Inuit).

Why do the European prices vary so much? In Ireland and for the Irish version of Lego Shop at Home, they're €2.49 each, but for France/Germany/Italy/Spain for example, they're €1.99 each. And for Portugal, they're €1.95. Doesn't make much sense to me, maybe it's because Ireland isn't on the continent, but it still seems a bit unfair. Most sets have the same price point across the Eurozone.

I was able to get all mine the other week. I used the feel method, I don't trust the dots... Sure it takes a little time and people might look at you funny, but I also didn't have to shell out extra cash just to get duplicates! I honestly didn't notice the differentiating quality between this series and the rest, but also I have not exactly spent a lot of time inspecting them.

Series 4 have started popping up at WHsmiths! My local brand had at least 4 boxes up behind the counter. I don't really like getting them from there though - the assastants are always a bit suspicious. Tesco and Argos are the places to go!

GAME seems to have a load of Series 4 figs. I was quite suprised to see them there when I went to pick up a copy of Crysis 2 - they haven't even appeared in my local Argos!

Series 4 seems to be selling quickly. When I went to Wal-Mart at the beginning of the week they had 5 boxes of collectible mini-figures out. At the end of the week they only had 2 boxes. I guess in another few days to a week max. they'll all be gone.

Regardless how much I dislike the cheap China plastic....I still buy it because it's still a Lego product and enjoy adding these minifigs to my collection. As some have pointed out, it's more likely a quality control issue vice product and/or materials.

When you think of Lego....quality comes to mind. Unfortunately, this has not been the standard lately.

I completely agree with the quality issue, I've stated a long time ago that I noticed something wrong with the quality, after noticing on series 1 the necks don't have that familiar black square that I assume machines use to determine whats the front of the torso.

I did think the figs in series 4 have been a slight improvement from series 1, but when I compared the translucency of the sailors white legs to the nurses white legs, they seem the same. The thing that gets me the most is color of the yellow on hands and face, they don't match the yellow of traditional lego figs. But this problem isn't just in the CMF, I think its anything not in a cardboard box set.

Basically I always look on the pack to see if the parts are from china, then I check right on the armpits of the figs, if they're cheap quality, there will be a little "lego" stamp. Like an indented square with I think the word lego written on it. I thought the minifigs from the BAM bar were good quality, but when I checked the 6 I had just gotten, 4 had the arm pit stamp.

Also the series 4 figs don't seem to have the same "shine" that I'm used too, the only part that seems to shine is the printing, not the actual plastic.

On A Side Note: I went to get more elfs from TRU today, and noticed a new dot pattern (maybe it was the original but I don't remember what it looked like). I dont know how to describe it really but this dot pattern had two dots on the left side of the packet very close to each other, with one slightly higher and then something on the right. The one before this was two dots on the Right side far apart and very close to the bottom of the pack, and then something on the left.

Ordered mine through TRU a week ago; bought 32 and ended up with all of them. Spent over an hour feeling the packs to sort them. I personally like this series better then the last and the next doesn't look very impressive to me. My son loves the frankenstein and wolfman and I just ordered 16 more for him to open from LEGO.com.

This morning I was very excited to check out the new series on the TLG website, but very disappointed after realizing the price went up. These minifigs series are such money-generating machines! The sad reality is, though, that I still buy them, nonetheless. I also agree with brixton and other commentators: dot patterns don't seem to be effective to avoid buying the same minifig and many times they are very lightly engraved; and the product quality is poor compared to that of minifigs in sets. Although I love series 4 more than 3, the increased price once again makes me reconsider the whole idea of collecting the series.
