    We mentioned this a couple of weeks ago: HERO Recon is a 'Design By Me' for HERO Factory. It's now live and I've had a play. Basically you start with a HF 'skeleton' then put armour and weapons onto it using a Flash-based web interface. Once you're done you can save it and send it to your cart to buy it. The one I assembled came out at £9.99, which I didn't think was too bad. I don't know if the price varies depending on what you put on it: I suspect not.

    Mission_zed who emailed us today about this said "At little disappointed, as only the 2.0 Hero parts/colours are available, plus the special two-tone chest piece. No villain parts or v1 Hero parts, the v1 arm cannons would have been useful. And the naming system is awful...."

In similar news, I noticed about six bins of Hero Factory parts at my store's PaB last weekend. I'm not familiar with the line, but they appeared to be large head, arm, and leg parts.

I created a hero that came out to be $12.99 (U.S. Dollars), has anyone figured out the secret to making the price lower, or is that just the mandatory cost?

Yay - finally got a news credit ! I think the point of the Recon Team package is you get a complete figure at a set price. Hence, the number of parts / weight is limited. Parts are also available via Pick a Brick or Designed ByME (not tried Designed ByME). This way, you would only pay for the parts you use but then you have the complexity of figuring out which parts you need. (Dad - you bought me a bot has no neck !) You cannot select the exclusive Recon Team chest plate from Pick a Brick and I assume you don't get the Recon Team booklet and box.

Yes, I agree with mission_zed, I am pretty sure that $12.99 (U.S.) and £9.99 (U.K.) are the set prices.

So it seems like the set price is £9.99 (is this including packaging?). However, along with 'The Reviewer' I also hate HF. It's a shame they didn't do this sort of thing when Bionicle was around. Back then (and now) I was always making Bionicle MOC's, but never had the right parts to finish it as I wanted.

WOW! That's a pretty cool program! Defiantly agree that they should have of done this for Bionicle. Don't think of HF as replacing Bionicle, cuz' it didn't. Lego just couldn't make any more 'amazing' sets with the Bio story.
P.S. did any one else notice you can order 25 :P Thats $325 for 25 custom HF!

According the US catalog, $12.99 is the set price. A bit of a shame that you must put them on a certain way, I was hoping to make one with a bunch of hands, dark blue light-saber blades, and 2011 joints. You may on Design-by-me, but the price would be atrocious. Also, on Design-by-me, there is a (n exclusive, I think) transparent orange under armor. I honestly couldn't care less as I don't like HF, but the theme's fans may be interested.

The Lego store in Portland, OR has Hero Factory parts up on the "pick a brick" wall, but the selection is really limited. Hard to believe they could make that feature of the store even worse. They usually have things like wheels but no tires or flower stems but not heads.

The Hero Creator is extremely limited compared to using LDD to design a Hero. In LDD, I was able to create a recolor of Surge 2.0's rifle using only dark metallic elements and a trans-red lightsaber blade. The Hero Creator only allows one to use the base of the rifle.

Also, LDD allowed me to add elements (Furno 1.0's swords as wings!) to the back of my Hero to fill in the massive gap there, but the Hero Creator didn't.

Finally, the Hero Creator has a limit on the number of pieces and the name creator only has male names. What if I want a female Hero?

Overall, LDD beats Hero Creator every day of the week. The price may be more, and I wouldn't get the special box, instructions, or silver chest plate, but I think Pick A Brick might reduce the cost, so I'll probably just get the parts through that.

Wow. In all honesty I'm not that big of a hero factory fan, but this is just plain genius! I had always imagined doing something like this, and I'm really glad lego came out with it. The price is decent too... who knows maybe I'll actually buy one.

For the United States it is 12.99, but it actually isn't too bad of a price since you also get a special box and instructions. Though, more parts from Hero Factory are available on LDD now so I'll just get them from there instead so I can make a villain and a hero.

Flower stems are excellent in large quantities for making "uncut" grass effects on MOCs!
