I was just in there and got a half dozen figures. No signage, I didn't even know they were on sale until I saw my receipt. I scored my first Elf, yea!

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 08 Apr 2011 16:48

Cool! Bit of a bummer though that I'm saving up money... :(

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 08 Apr 2011 17:37

I would buy the AT-AT or Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship (already own the Slave I), but I don't have the money.

@durins - Awesome!

Posted by teal93mr2 in United States, 08 Apr 2011 17:44

Same old sale on 3 SW items that are already marked above retail.

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 08 Apr 2011 18:21

There is also a nice deal on LEGO at Borders book stores. Everything LEGO is 20% off its original price.

Posted by rocao in United States, 08 Apr 2011 18:33

@LEGO_Lord: Is that a Borders location that is being closed down, or is it one staying open?

Posted by TBOC in United States, 08 Apr 2011 18:36

LEGO-Lord: Seriously? HP can wait, I'm getting some minifigs pronto!

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 08 Apr 2011 18:57

It is being closed down. 200 stores I believe.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 08 Apr 2011 19:11

Not my store, is this for closing stores or what? Borders is bankrupt, but the companies not shutting down, they're just closing 200 stores, gladly not mine.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 08 Apr 2011 19:19

20% off at Borders store is not much to celebrate about. Borders generally mark up the MSRP on Lego sets. When I did shop at Borders I held out for either the 40% or 50% off coupon. I'm pretty sure these coupons don't apply to the stores closing down.

Recently I got several sets at Barnes and Noble at 50% discount. First time I went there. The sets I picked up were at or below MSRP. I also decided to purchase their membership card for $50 annual fee. One perk is a savings of 10% on purchases.

Posted by LegoCity578 in United States, 08 Apr 2011 20:14

Aww that sucks :(
I'm saving up for the Green Grocer! I have $36.00 right now.

Posted by Greyface in United States, 08 Apr 2011 20:17

Saving up for HP sets... Got around 60 or 70 bucks, hopefully I'll have enough for the three new sets! And then I'll have to find a way to get my hands on the two polybag sets (likely Brickmaster exclusives! Grr!) and that elusive Diagon Alley...

Posted by rocao in United States, 08 Apr 2011 20:32

@Greyface: it was a confirmed April Fool's joke

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 08 Apr 2011 21:48

Hey $37 is not bad for the bounty hunter Dropship, too bad I bought it when it first came out.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 08 Apr 2011 22:13

@LegoCity578: Lego Green Grocer has been sold out for a while now.

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 08 Apr 2011 22:54

I might try to get the new AT-AT.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 08 Apr 2011 23:53

"All" LEGO (besides H,SW and the normal) will be BOGO the week after next, it's always BOGO50% at TRU the week before Easter.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 09 Apr 2011 00:49

@TGBG - that would be great as we might have POTC sets by then, assuming they're not excluded.

Posted by MatrixQuest in United States, 09 Apr 2011 09:51

Yeah, more of TRU's fake sales ... suggested retail $1.99 or b1g1halfoff comes to $4.50 still 51 cents higher than suggested retail...I'm not biting.

Posted by durins in United States, 09 Apr 2011 10:13

The figures I bought yesterday were $2.99 before the discount, which is Lego's retail price. It's worth a look at your local TRU.

Posted by meyerc13 in United States, 09 Apr 2011 10:30

@MatrixQuest, the MSRP for Series 1-2 was $1.99 but for Series 3-4 it has been $2.99 so this isn't a 'fake' sale, this is decent savings for those who want to pick up a few they don't have or for those who just like to see what they get out of a discounted random bag. :)

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 09 Apr 2011 10:56

I doubt TRU will have PotC in before May 1st. However the only themes excluded this time will be HP, and SW.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 09 Apr 2011 11:28

@MatrixQuest - the argument that "TRU marks up their sets so all of their sales are worthless" is both tired and wrong. Many sets including Minifigures are currently being sold at MSRP and most of the rest are marks up 10% or less. I realize that Hogwarts and some battlepacks are the exception but a few sets out of dozens does not set the standard. That being said and while all 3 of today's sales are pretty good, I will probably wait until the next BOGO50% just in case we get more spaceport and POTC sets.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 09 Apr 2011 12:52

My local TRU has aweful markups, some 10% to as much as over 30%-35% of retail on Lego(from what I understand they pay Lego more to get their product on the shelf before any of the major stores, even Lego stores). They even still have Prince of Persia at above retail on the shelf...why TRU, oh why...;)Literally collecting dust.
From what I remember the Slave I over here at TRU was like $89.99, At-At $119.99 (ouchy) and the Gunship like $54.99+. 30% does still help though. I'd still say shop around before TRU anyday.
Only rarely do you see an actual retail price on a Lego set there (recently I bought NinjaGo Skull Motorbike for it's retail price). But it's New York so I'm guessing they say it's the cost of the high rent in our areas. Target is another prime offender(they used to be great but now, above retail on just about all Lego).
The minifigures are going for $3.50 over here while at my local Lego Store they're $2.99.
The BOGO though can ease the pain on those for sure.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 09 Apr 2011 13:03

@MatrixQuest...I'm with ya' on TRU markups man. Terrible...but with BOGO's, it's not bad. With the current mini-figs, they're not $1.99 anymore. They're $2.99 retail (some TRU's $3.50) so a BOGO saves a bit, and ordering like 10 or more really helps with savings.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 09 Apr 2011 13:09

TRU has actually lowered a lot of their prices since Christmas time, I'm not sure why but they have. In the past the BOGO50% and B2G1 were almost pointless, but now they are worth it. More so because the minifigures will never go on sale at the LEGO Brand Stores.

Some of TRU's prices are nuts, just don't buy the sets from them. No one is forcing people to shop at TRU... besides LEGO with the minifigure series. lol

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 09 Apr 2011 14:41

@legoDad42 - It's my understanding that many NY stores charge a premium above and beyond their sister stores elsewhere so the markups may indeed be worse for you. For the majority of the country, however, @MSRP or 10% over MSRP is the norm for most Lego sets at TRU. Therefore, the 30% reductions end up more in the 23% range and BOGO50% for like priced sets end up more in the 18% range off each. Just from memory, I recall TRU selling the minifigs, imperial shuttle, Cargo train, Shuttle adventure, public transport, medieval market, Small car, skeleton chopper, kingdoms tower rescue, Atlantis HQ, Scarab attack, and ninja training for MSRP. And sonic boom and Jedi shuttle were pretty close to MSRP as I recall. Base plates and battlepacks are another thing, though. As for Target, I can't speak for the NY stores but those in VA, MD, TN, NC, etc all seemed to be selling mostly at MSRP.

@TGBG- TRU does make a habit of increasing their margins on Lego around Christmas then lowering those prices afterwards. We saw this with S3 minifigs and the TRU truck to just name two. To me, this practice is inexcusable.

Posted by rocao in United States, 09 Apr 2011 19:30

I purchased:

7632 Crawler Crane x 6 @ 27.50 each
7642 Garage x 8 @ $56.25 each
7930 Bounty Hunter Gunship x 2 @ $37 each
30050 Republic Attack Shuttle (free with Star Wars purchase)

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 09 Apr 2011 23:55

@rocao - is this now the brag thread? :o)

Posted by Unknown User2596 in United States, 10 Apr 2011 00:35

Now TRU is getting real desperate, they're trying to give away S3 FOR FREE with $30 purchase.

Has S4 hit Target yet? Next week's ad shows select sets 30% off.

Posted by EmmyLegoMom in United States, 10 Apr 2011 09:14

Rarely do I bother with Toys R us. Their price is inflated, even when an item is on "sale", such as a 30% off, it is 30% off their inflated price, not 30% off normal retail price. Additional, most of the time their sale items are never in stock. In most instances, I can order from Walmart and have the item sent site to store and pay less than Toys R us sale price.

Posted by taffer1979 in United States, 10 Apr 2011 09:47

I got the 7632 Crawler Crane too, but it was $34 at my toysrus.

I also got:
3658 Big Police Helicopter $30
3367 Space Shuttle $14 50% OFF regular preice of $30
7848 Toysrus Diesel $49
3181 Passanger Plane $21 50% OFF regular price of $42

Minifig Series 4 was at my Redlands, Ca Toysrus finally so I got 5 packs and got:
Hazmat guy
Mad scientist
Surfer girl
Skater guy

Why do we never seem to have these kind of sails in the UK? What a world...
