They all look similar prices to the Harry Potter sets. I'm not sure White Cap Bay £71.99 has enough to warrant £10 more than the Burrow? How do they work out prices, by weight or number of pieces? Or do they just guess and try to get away with as high as they can?

Prices depend on several things. Part count, new or expensive parts, but in the case of POTC and HP, the price is high mainly because of the licence. Just what I am aware of.

Also, two of the Technic sets are available for pre-order, though they aren't out 'till August: the bucket truck and the flatbed truck. The latter has a part count of 1115, which is great for the price when you consider it also has a motor.

I like how the Amazon photos show the different features of the sets. There are a lot of moving parts that I wasn't aware of based on previous photos.

Are they only on amazon's UK site?

Also, you should put "Amazon.com news", "Amazon.co.uk news", etc. instead of putting it under legoshop.com (UK) and such, Huw. :-)

EDIT: Dang it, they are! I guess us americans have to wait.

Those are really weird prices! WhiteCap Bay is super expensive!!! And Queen Anne's Revenge is 20 bucks less than what Lego is selling it for!!

Shame, I was hoping to get them but at those prices I won't be! Hopefully Amazon has just inflated the prices as they seem to be the only place selling them at the moment. Though knowing the other recent lego liscensed set prices I wouldn't be at all suprised if they're right :-(

Like the Toy Story sets, these will be on sale in no time. You'd be silly to pay those prices for them.

PotC will be a huge hit, IMO.

There are certainly similarities between the Harry Potter set and these, the prices in particular!

@Spency13 - Unfortunately, no such luck, these prices are in Great British Pounds, not American Dollars which is probably what you thought.

I was just messing around on amazon and I found that you can pre-order the city summer sets too, the marina is £41.99 and has 294 pieces a bit steep it seems like lego are really pushing it now!

Posted by bodybomb3 in United Kingdom, 10 Apr 2011 17:26

You can also order the star wars sets I think you can pre-order them all oh and they also have the black pearl for £81.99 which to me sounds like a bargain

Eek, those are some high prices! Maybe I'll just wait until the Disney store puts them up for half price like they did with PoP sets. In the meantime, HP Hogwarts Castle for £74.99 is a steal :)

I don't think LEGO are very wise to be charging so much for these sets. I know that they want to make as much money as they can but to charge this much is just going to put people off, me for a start. I was planning on buying Caniball Escape but looking at the price, that's out of the question for me at the moment. I was hoping it would be around the £20 mark but clearly I was being VERY optimistic.
What do you think of the prices Huw?

Posted by Snowhive in Germany, 11 Apr 2011 05:36

They can also preordert on the German Amazon website.

I think they are very expensive.... So they won't a big sucess tha can be (IMHO)

I cannot get over the price for these. I agree with tiberium_blue - I will wait until they come down in price. If they don't then I just won't get them.

I think the three smallest sets are pitched exactly where I would expect them based on the recent Indiana Jones and Harry Potter sets - £10-£20 with three or four figs, some nice parts and small buildable play scenes. I'll certainly get the captains cabin and isla de la muerte sets for the parts, figs and fig accessories.

I expected the ship to be expensive and had guessed to my wife £100+ so no surprises there. Not really a pirate or castle builder so this won't be a purchase unless I find a bargain.

I think the mid-range sets don't justify the price tags though. Like SW, HP and some of the IJ sets too, mid sized and priced licensed sets are too expensive for what's in them. Whitecap bay is the only set with the mermaids, but it looks like a kingdoms castle tower with a bit of roof and £72 price tag. Even the £40 sets have two or three figs, a run-down building and a play feature or two, but I don't see enough bricks and new parts to justify the costs.

They will sell like hot-cakes to kids and pirate builders though, but I hope Voyanui is right and they quickly go the way of the POP sets and get half-priced in Disney stores. Then I may invest..

According to Amazon, The Black Pearl is only going to be 804 pieces.... Not too happy about that! That Black Pearl is the Big-Wig of PotC movies!! It needs to be epic, and with just 800 pieces, I don't think that'll happen. But hey, if I get Pintel, Regetti, Marty and Cotton, I don't care what the set looks like! ;)

I agree with spency13. /\

I hope Lego sells them cheaper than amazon. I was SO excited when I heard about the sets, and now they seem a little bumish...
