Here's an excellent photo of series 5 figures, posted on flickr by Unknown User2596.

So, I'll ask again: which is the spartan and which the crash-test-dummy of this series?

Thanks,Huw those pics are great. =)

Posted by mikes0000 in United States, 06 May 2011 15:52

Why does everyone pick on the crash test dummy? I liked him. The diver was the real dud of series 1.

Another snowboarder is a disappointment. The aerobics girl would be however female additions to the minifig world are usually appreciated. Everybody else looks strong with new accessories or cool printed pieces.

Posted by lemaskdemasque in United Kingdom, 06 May 2011 15:53

it seems that everyone's fav is the murmillo. My least fav is the snowboarder or the areaobics teacher cough-popstar-cough, cough!

Posted by Pulpdiction in United Kingdom, 06 May 2011 15:56

Lovin' that monkey.

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 06 May 2011 15:59

Best Pic I seen so far, thanks. My fav(s) is the Mobster, Boxer, Clown, British Gaurd, Zoo Keeper, Godzilla costume guy, just keeps going on, I personally think this is the best so far, series 4 being 2nd, but again there all good, just not the re-makes of the snowboarder and dance instructor. Does anybody know what colour the bags are and when they will be realesed. I know there probaly $1.99, well were I come from.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 06 May 2011 16:07

WOW the gladiator looks amazing! The detail on the print, the new sword, and helmet, way better than I thought!
Interesting though, I feel like this series and series 4 follow a similar theme in the lack of army building potential. The first 3 series army builders were obvious, zombie, spartan, elf, but last series and this series are iffy.

While in series 4 there was an urge to army build musketeers, there's really no need for more than 3, maybe 4.
Then the viking could easily be army built, there wasn't so much of an urge considering there had already been viking minifigs and he didn't have anything new.

I see the same thing here, I would like to army build the gladiator for his new parts, but there's no need for such a huge number. Then the dwarf would be an easy pick, but again no new parts and dwarfs already existed.

Posted by cjg in United States, 06 May 2011 16:19

I like the mobster a lot. The little monkey is cool too.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 06 May 2011 16:20

Okay, I just finished watching the first season of Spartacus a month ago and now I have to get at least two Gladiators!
I could spend hours just looking at that picture! Thanks!!!

Posted by stoneboys in United States, 06 May 2011 16:20

The girl in the bottom left looks exactly like the girl in series 2.

Posted by ytjedi in United States, 06 May 2011 16:20

I'm already planning of setting up some not-to-scale British guards around my Tower Bridge set.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 06 May 2011 16:22

I want 12 of the Royal Guards please! It'll be like having a dozen tin soldiers! :)

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 06 May 2011 16:24

A couple of the gangsters could make for a nice lego mafia movie :D
faves are the gangster, boxer, clown, axe man, and British guard/soldier

Posted by K-nut in United States, 06 May 2011 16:25

Those are really great pics! Gladiator is still my favorite, followed up closely by the Detective. I need some good swords for my Spartans! Need some gangsters for hats, guns, and suits.

Posted by Juwayyid in United States, 06 May 2011 16:25

I would just like to say, the crash test dummy is one of my favorites, and I could do without the spartan...

Posted by tedward in Canada, 06 May 2011 16:25

The lumberjack, or at least the beaver hat, is going to be popular here in Canada I predict.

Posted by Juwayyid in United States, 06 May 2011 16:28

I like the pharaoh chick or the cave woman... And I'm a dude!

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 06 May 2011 16:29

The gladiator is awesome, but what's with his face? At least it can be easily swapped. I love the boxer, and the dinosaur-suit guy with separate tail piece attached at the neck, just brilliant. And the lumberjack (the axe and the face) will come in handy for a recreation of The Shining! Herrre's Johnny! :)

Posted by SarahIsabella in United States, 06 May 2011 16:31

" I'm already planning of setting up some not-to-scale British guards around my Tower Bridge set."
- that was my first thought too ytjedi.
I'd also really like that graduate since my oldest is about to graduate from high school next month.
I think it's a tie between the snowboarder and aerobics girl for the worst of the bunch.

Posted by copperwonder96 in United States, 06 May 2011 16:40

The British Guard is the New Spartin because of the head print (strap) and uniform (military).
The Aerobics girl is the Crash test dummy although I like her; I like them all actually!

Posted by bzbox in Slovenia, 06 May 2011 16:55

Awesome pic! But snowboarder again? LEGO is runing out of ideas?

Posted by Talas Antares in United States, 06 May 2011 17:04

Kinda surprising that nobody noticed that the Godzilla Costume Guy appears to be a near dead-ringer for Hannibal in an episode of the original "A-Team" series. IIRC that costume was even shown in the opening theme...
Or am I the only one here old enough to remember the original series? lol

Posted by durins in United States, 06 May 2011 17:16

Yes to one and all! Except for Olivia Newton-John. I didn't like the Singer, and I don't like the Aerobics Girl. The Gangster and the Queen's Guard are both spectacular.

Posted by AETerry in United States, 06 May 2011 17:40

I'm partial to getting the mobster, guy-in-lizard suit, Zoo Keeper, Boxer, Wood Cutter, Dwarf, and maybe the Aerobics Instructor whom before this pic, I thought was a redux of the Popstar, just missing her microphone.

The others look good, but if I'm going to critize, it's that there's another snowboarder minifigure.

Posted by Dodge in Canada, 06 May 2011 17:54

@tedward - I KNOW!!! I'm hoping to grab a bunch of those hosers!!!

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 06 May 2011 18:25

This is the bit where I frantically start searching for an army of royal guards, and several graduates, in addition to the standard set of 16...!

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 06 May 2011 18:42

Still have not gotten one minifigure!

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 06 May 2011 18:57

Getting silly with another Snowboarder BUT, I'm really diggin' the Gladiator, Boxer (now I'm hoping seeing those gloves they'll make a glove for the baseball player), Cleopatra and the Godzilla Suit Dude.

Wonder if the Gangster's case opens?

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 06 May 2011 19:00

I'm gonna' assume Sherlock Holmes is the rare figure.

Posted by Zackula in United States, 06 May 2011 19:01

when i first saw these, i didn't really like them , but they have grown on me. I still don't like the snowboarder or aerobics girl though. My favorite is the murmillo, especially now that I have seen his face.

Posted by jonboy2000 in United Kingdom, 06 May 2011 19:08

for anyone interested, In Bluewater Lego brand store they had all the pieces to make the clown from series 1 and the magician in the build a mini figure section(no accessories). I didn't look too hard but there may have been parts to buil 1 or 2 other characters(also mermaids tails). I find that mini figure parts vary vastly from store to store

Posted by jarom_moroni in United States, 06 May 2011 19:43

The Gladiator and the Dwarf will be the all-stars here.

The Boxer and the Detective look the most lame to me.

Posted by matau2004 in United States, 06 May 2011 19:43

They come in light blue poly bag

Posted by voypro in United States, 06 May 2011 19:45

I thought these really stunk when I first saw them. They look better now with hi res photos.

Cave girl looks like grownup Pebbles from the Flintstones. Egyptian chick is my favorite and with that huge base will stick out like a sore thumb when you give the foil Packs the TSA screening. But again... $2.99 too high. I will buy 1 set and couple of extras of my favorites. that is all; compare that to 2 + boxes of series 1 and same on ser 2.

Posted by jinxjinx550 in United States, 06 May 2011 19:50

The clown, the lumberjack, and the guardsman are probably my favorites. I am so psyched about a new Lego food item! I want a dozen pies, at least. My least favorite is the darned Aerobics girl. The snowboarder and the dwarf are a bit repetitive, but each one has good clothing and accessories. How much can you do with a lavender boombox?

Posted by Stacy in Australia, 06 May 2011 19:50

Release Date anyone?

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 06 May 2011 20:02

Series 4 had the Village People, so apparently series 5 has 80s pop? That's Olivia Newton-John in the bottom corner :).

What's frustrating is that every season, there are more that I want. The only ones here I'm not interested in are the Fitness Girl, and the Dwarf. Everything else looks brilliant, even the lumberjack.

Posted by Fire in United States, 06 May 2011 20:21

The Zombie/Spartan/Elf of this series is probably the Gladiator. As a castle fan, the next best one is the Dwarf because of the new prints and new color helmet. Definitely has army building potential. Other highlights are the Cavewoman, Clown, Lumberjack, Mobster, Graduate, and Royal Guard.

The Crash Test Dummy of the series is easily the Aerobics Instructor. Awful remake of the pop star (a figure I didn’t like much originally). And while I don't mind the idea of a male Snowboarder, I think they could have done a much better job with him.

Other than those two, the rest are all fantastic, especially the ones I mentioned above. Probably the next best series after Series 4.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 06 May 2011 20:23

It seems these minifigs are following a theme. Like the caveman and cave woman. boxer, sumo, and karate master. Also Egyptian pharaoh and then Egyptian queen.

Posted by LeGoB12A21 in Canada, 06 May 2011 20:41

My favourites are the Dinosaur Suit Man,Lumberjack, British Royal Guard,Cavewoman,Boxer and Murmillo. The worst is easily the areobics instructer. By the looks of the minifigures this is my favourite series.

Posted by pitfall69 in United States, 06 May 2011 21:02

Another snowboarder? I can see people getting tons of gladiators and British guards. My wife wants the clown. Other than the snowboarder, it is a nice series of minifigures. You can even hang the diploma from the graduate on a wall in an office somewhere.

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 06 May 2011 21:10

I agree with voypro. At first glance a few months ago these didn't look too exciting to me, but now that I have a closer look I really see the merits of a lot of these. Some are boring and repetitive, but most I look forward to seeing in Lego form. I especially like the zookeeper/primate researcher because I am a huge primate fan and Jane Goodall was a childhood idol of mine. :-)

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 06 May 2011 22:22

Does anybody have a release date or info on when they coming to stores, im pretty sure lots of people want to know( about 6 comments above), and what bag color, blue or purple. Thanks

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 06 May 2011 22:22

Well its pretty clear that this snowboarder simply should not even be in this otherwise excellent set. I mean, apart from the body print there is nothing new at all in this rendition. You can quite literally construct him from a couple of previous models. I'm not totally against re-hashes, but just not so quickly after the earlier ones. It cannibalises the fun of the previous set too quickly. The keep fit enthusiast is a bit poor, they should have made more effort to not look so much like the pop singer - a different hair-do would have been a start. Otherwise, fantastic set. Gladiator is fabulous.

Posted by voypro in United States, 06 May 2011 23:49

On closer inspection the dwarf warrior rocks. I am going to need 20-25 of him

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 07 May 2011 00:09

The Dwarf warrior is already been seen in Castle, for me the Dwarf knight is the worst of S5

Posted by Yooha in Europe, 07 May 2011 00:24

I don't have a dwarf, so that fig is one of my favs in the series. The others are the gangster, gladiator, british guard and the clown.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 07 May 2011 02:39

I really don't get why the fitness instructor has to be sooo similar to the popstar - they could hav at least given her a different hair colour! Also, why does the bag colour have to be blue again? what about red or purple??
Why does everyone hate the crash test dummy, he was one I was most looking forward to getting scince I heard about minifigures. The minifigures seem to have a very different feel to series one - not quite sure why?

Posted by Pulpdiction in United Kingdom, 07 May 2011 04:59

loving those 'lambchop' sideburns on the sherlock holmes dude.

Posted by duilim in Australia, 07 May 2011 05:31

This is possibly the best series since Series 1 was released with some really good figures. In particular, the Murmillo, British Guard, Gangster and the Graduate really appeal to me. As with all the series though, there are some real duds and the ones here would have to be the Clown and the aerobics instructor, which as a lot of people have pointed out, is way too similar to the popstar of Series 2. I don't mind another snowboarder as I quite liked the previous one, but yes, I can see how it could get annoying and in all seriousness, if Lego is running out of ideas they really should consider just winding this theme up altogether.

Posted by jinxjinx550 in United States, 07 May 2011 07:07

I wouldn't ever say that Lego's running out of ideas. I started getting Legos when the minifigs first started appearing, and the options available were Red Shirt Smiley, Blue Shirt Smiley, etc. When Blue Pants Smiley showed up, we were all like -- Wow! And when they came out with (wonder of wonders!) Space Smiley? It was like Shakespeare had finally told Michelangelo to sculpt something miraculous.

Posted by Nesquik in United Kingdom, 07 May 2011 07:37

Lego certainly aren't running out of ideas - a designer who was recently interviewed even said, with obvious exaggeration, that their list of different ideas was about a mile long. The reason they repeat figures such as the Snowboarder or the town people like the lady figures is simply to pace the figures that are released in every Series.

Its common sense that they can't just keep releasing, what some would consider, "the best/sought after" minifigs every Series. In order to create variety and balance themes, they have to include both unusual and more common looking minifigs so that every Series has a harmony.

My picks from this Series will be Cave Girl, Egyptian Princess, Small Clown, English Guard[s], Lumberjack, Dino Man, Safari Girl , Graduate[s], Gangster and Gladiator.

Posted by legoman98 in United Kingdom, 07 May 2011 07:57

@miniroll32 you took the words right out of my mouth ;)

My favourite of this series is easily the Gladiator. However, I quite like the look of this snowboarder and I prefer it to series 3's version. The others I'll be getting are Dinosaur Suit Guy, Boxer, Zoo Keeper, Graduate and most likely the Dwarf as I haven't got one from the castle themes :P

Posted by brixton in Canada, 07 May 2011 08:12

After seeing the high resolution photos I'm still not thoroughly impressed with this series 5. My opinion of this set has increased slightly but I probably still won't go out and buy any of these. The minifigures that I like from this batch are the gladiator, graduate, mobster, Eskimo, boxer, dwarf, lumberjack and royal guard. If the quality control of series 4 minifigures wasn't so bad, I would probably get the 8 minifigures that I want but I'm assuming the quality of these figures won't improve.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 07 May 2011 08:41

I think we're absolutely spoiled for choice with regards to the variety of minifigures this year, with the imminent release of a third series of 16 minifigures (that'll be 48 minifigures by August or so, and 64 in total with an all-but-confirmed series 6 before Christmas!). Don't get me started on the wealth of figures we've seen already in actual sets, like Pharaoh's Quest, Alien Conquest and Pirates of the Caribbean.

I think it's great that they're releasing companion figures like a second surfer, snowboarder, skateboarder, etc. Not only does it add to specific themes that you can create, but it also gives kids a chance to pick up a type of figure that they might have missed out on previously. We have to remember that these are primarily for kids, hence that 5+ symbol. :)

Posted by vynsane in United States, 07 May 2011 10:42

Man, I'm always on the opposite end of the excitement spectrum on the CMFs. I'm not really enthused by any of these, save for the gangster and Victorian Era Investigator. The 'monkey woman' body/legs could be used to make a 'Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter' minifig, though.

Posted by crazyawesomeyeah in United States, 07 May 2011 13:02

GIMLI!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 07 May 2011 13:53

@crazyawesomeyeah - I know right, now I want the Elf and Dwarf.

Posted by crazyawesomeyeah in United States, 07 May 2011 14:09

i already have the elf, but not the dwarf. but Gimli's beard is orange, and not black. looks like i'll have to mix & match.

Posted by benjadude11 in United States, 07 May 2011 14:16

These have all been done before! theyve already made an egyptian, a clown, an aerobics girl, a spartan, three or four winter athletes and a boxer/weightlifter. The only one that really gets me going is the beefeater. he is amazing.

Posted by benjadude11 in United States, 07 May 2011 14:18

And a caveman. and the dwarfs could have been gotten in the castle sets from 07-09 and there were two comparable gangsters in Indiana Jones Shanghai Chase, albeit w/out the violin case.

Posted by xymox in United States, 07 May 2011 15:02

well the release date be similar to before cause they have been put out every 2 months but you never know how they will go with this hope they fill us in soon

wow very nice series coming the boxer looks interesting cant wait for it...

looking forward to this series, My son and I have collected all so far, no stopping now. Really digging the Lumberjack and the Guard.

Posted by BIONICLEGuy in United Kingdom, 08 May 2011 02:14

There are a few people who actually like the Crash Test Dummy (example- me and my cousin) that have been deeply offended by the statement "the crash test dummy". Thanks.

I like the boxer, gangster and lumberjack.

Posted by gabriel123 in United Kingdom, 08 May 2011 14:09

I liked the crash test dummy (have a small army actually), but anyway, I'll want to make a army of the evil dwarf, and I like the look of the gangster, the inuit, the british guard, the graduate and some of the others.

Posted by charfdorn in United States, 08 May 2011 16:36

This is the best series since 2 (maybe ever).

I'm getting sick of fishermen, personally. The jazzerciser is one I'm going to definitely get; love that outfit. Snowboarder is a definite fill-in, and aside from the gloves that boxer isn't anything special. Personally, I'm not a big fan of clowns, so I'll pass on this one, but I see why that's appealing. And who cares if we already have a dward? That doesn't make dwarves any less cool! Clearly, this year's Spartan is the... um... Spartan...

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 08 May 2011 20:03

Release Date Anyone.

Posted by mission_zed in United Kingdom, 09 May 2011 10:31

Sounds like its time for those who love the lil yellow guy to take to the streets and protest against this Dummiphobia ! ! !

I'm starting to feel overloaded by these minifigs, I've not even picked up Series 4 yet. Some nice stuff in Series 5, some fillers.

I'd like to pick up a pile of Graduates and give them to my kids when/if they finish University. My son is 6, so I'll only have to hide it from him for 15 years ... My daughter is only 2 and a half. Actually, they might be worth enough to pay their tuition fees by then !

Posted by singlow in United States, 09 May 2011 15:32

I"m going to need at least 2 boxes of Series 5 if not three. They are all great!

Posted by RedBrickMarket in United States, 09 May 2011 15:34

Detective looks to much like the explorer (Series 2)... kind of lame.

Posted by Pepper in United States, 09 May 2011 18:51

I think that the crash test dummy is the snowboarder and the spartan is the gladiator. I'll most likely be picking up a complete set, plus extras of the mobster, gladiator, dwarf, and British guard.

Does anyone know if there are any more series coming, or if this is it?
