Update to PotC minifig gallery

  • Update to PotC minifig gallery

Posted by Huw, 24 May 2011 16:17. Filed under Brickset.

Thanks to forum member nexhex I now have a Voodoo Doll Jack Sparrow fig, so he, and a couple of other figs, are now in the PotC gallery. Sorry it's taking longer than I anticipated to get this completed.

You notice that, as well as his head, his torso and legs are also different to those on the other Jack Sparrows. His head is tan which is a pretty rare colour for head. The Tusken Raiders had tan heads but apart from them, has there been any others?

Yes in the Jabba's Message set 4475 Bib fortuna has a tan head

Posted by lukehankenobi in United Kingdom, 24 May 2011 17:14

Yes! Thanks Nexhex. A Gentleman and a scholar. I knew the head and hands were a different colour, but it didn't look tan to me until I (just now)compared it to a 6 x 2 Brick. I noticed the Torso but not the legs were different. I haven't got a White Boba Fett or a Jango - He is now the pride of my collection. Hands off Kids!

Luminara Unduli (Light-up and CW) and Barriss Offee.
And although they are modified, the Gungans also have tan heads, but I don't think that's what you meant.

Great job on the photos @Huw, as always. I love Angelica, I hope they release her hat as a separate piece sometime! :) Voodoo Jack is wicked! Got him when I bought the game, the girl let me have an extra one too. ;)

In the game actually, there's a few playable versions of Jack (like in "real" life), they have him named as:
Captain Jack Sparrow - the version with the brown jacket and tricorne
Jack Sparrow (Waistcoat) - the regular version with the waistcoat and lack of hat
Jack Sparrow (Chief) - from the cannibal escape
Jack Sparrow (Cursed) - zombie Jack
Not sure if it's important, but just thought I'd mention it if you wanted to use the official names maybe. No sign of Voodoo Jack, which is odd considering he came free with the game in physical form. :)

Thanks for the update to the awesome gallery, Huw! If any of the figs have back printing, you should take pictures of their backs as well; also a pic of Blackbeard without his beard (is the beard rubberish or plastic?). The only tan head listed on Bricklink that is not modified or previously mentioned is a blank tan head.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 24 May 2011 17:45

^ I am photographing backs but as it takes 3 times longer to process them than doing just the front I'm not going to add them just yet.

Posted by Pepper in United States, 24 May 2011 18:01

^ Oh, okay.

AWESOME!

Excellent pics again Huw, thanks also to nexhex. I love the pics! Not to rush you Huw, but I remember a while back you said something about an Alien Conquest minifig gallery and I was wondering if you started working on it. Not that I want to rush you, but I'm just wondering.

Wow, I have a Voodoo Jack Sparrow but I dont want to open it, so I didn't realize that everything about the minifig differs from other versions except for his hairpiece. I'm proud to own all 5 Jacks!

These pictures are gorgeous. I really wish bricklink would pay you to use your minifig images as there are terrible quality with various backgrounds, often horrendous lighting, and oftentimes lacking detail. This is the only site to visit to get an accurate look up-close at minifigs and their variations.

Does anyone have a Voodoo Jack they'd be willing to trade to me? Send me a message via profile if so. (i'm in the UK).

This is a great gallery so far! Though you made a minor mistake Huw- Barbossa was indeed in PoTC: On Stranger Tides, so he should probably go under the "all movies" category.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 24 May 2011 21:29

@TooMuchLego.... no, I think he was right to put that minifigure in the first 3 films.

My reasoning:

That Barbossa minifigure appeared in the sets that were designed around the first three movies.
There's a different Barbossa minifigure that appears for the fourth movie sets.

^ RE: Categorizing the POTC Gallery

The way he has them separated, he could STILL put Barbossa the Privateer (Peg-leg) into the category for the fourth film while keeping the Barbossa figure he has already posted in the films 1-3 section. The problem is, that splits up the Barbossa minifigs in the gallery which makes it difficult to find all versions of a single character in one fell swoop.

Another problem with the way they are being categorized now is... what do you do, for example, when they release another Joshamee Gibbs minifig with the Black Pearl set and it turns out he's exact the same minifig that comes with the London Escape set? You don't want to double up the same minifig by putting them in both categories, do you?

If I were to categorize this, I probably would not split them up by 1-3 and 4; rather, I would keep the Jack Sparrow category and then just make one all-inclusive category for main characters in films 1-4 and one all-inclusive category for nameless characters (zombie pirates, british soldiers, cannibals etc.) in films 1-4. That way it's easy to find all versions of a character side-by-side and there's no excessive digging to do in order to find something.

@dmm32552 Good thought. It would be easier to compare variations if the characters weren't stacked by movie.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 25 May 2011 02:20

The categorisation is a work in progress so I'm happy to take suggestions.

@Star_Mars - Also want to have a Jack Sparrow Voodoo. Who's willing to trade with me?

Posted by vpustote in United States, 25 May 2011 07:17

@dmm32552, good points. I'm still really, really, really hoping that there are a whole new set of characters for the black pearl... but you are right, Joshua Gibbs does look exactly the same in the 4th film. No reason for Lego to change him up.

These are some very nice pictures Huw. Your doing very well on them. I'm actually about to get that same exact Vodoo Doll Jack Sparrow from the Lego PotC video game. Before I whatched the movie everyone else (including me) thought that it was a wooden Jack Sparrow. But affter whatching it I found out it wasn't. Great job Huw.

Posted by SapmiSatan in Norway, 26 May 2011 03:28

Main characters: Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Barbossa and Angelica.
Black Pearl Crew: Gibbs(as of now)
Cursed Black Pearl Crew(not necessary yet, but hopefully, it will be):
British Navy: Norrington, King George's Officer, King George's Soldier(sure there's more to come in this category)
Flying Dutchman's Crew: Hadras(as of now)
Queen Anne's Revenge Crew: Blackbeard, Scrum, Philip, Quartermaster Zombie, Gunner Zombie and Zombie.
Natives: Cannibal, Cannibal, Syrena, Mermaid, Coahcman

In addition to the minifigure categories, I would love categories for the sets as well, Isla de la Muerta under "Curse of the Black Pearl", The Cannibal Escape and The Mill under "Dead Man's Chest" and the rest under "On Stranger Tides". If you could update the categories for Harry Potter as well, that would be great.

It looks like the pictures of the Cannibals need their legs switched....

Posted by vpustote in United States, 26 May 2011 15:01

@Ypres, I looked at all the images of them, and I think you are right. They are backwards.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 27 May 2011 02:47

^ I'll check that out and change them if necessary, thanks.

Posted by Stardusty in Croatia, 27 May 2011 09:43

I don't know did anyone mentioned it, but Bariss Ofee and Luminara Unduli from SW have tan heads, too.

Posted by dmm32552 in United States, 28 May 2011 10:26

^ I would go with Cursed Jack Sparrow.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 28 May 2011 11:42

I never realized that Voodoo Jack had a tan head. Now I want one!

Posted by Bricknave in United States, 29 May 2011 16:29

Hey Huw, are you going to add the LEGO PotC video game to the Brickset database?

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 30 May 2011 02:13

Bib Fortuna had that colour of head.

Posted by grandbuilder2001 in United Kingdom, 01 Jun 2011 01:42

why did they have to make it life size? Its already good on the mini one included in Queen Anne's Revenge.
