    Miscellaneous, 2011
    More details...

Check out this neat Brick-built calendar that's been reviewed on Eurobricks which features two series 1 minifigs and which is presumably going to be available in brand stores.

One thing the review doesn't point out is whether it's been manufacured by LEGO or by their their Chinese outsource partner, Broadway. I suspect that, given it has collectable figs in it, it will be the latter, like the similar 'Countdown Candle'.

Very nice!

I like that it comes with a cheerleader. Because sometimes, when you look at a calendar, you do need cheering up ^_^.

And I just got the 2011 LEGO Calender for christmas.... Ill have to get this for Christmas this year. Its nice that you get 2 Series 1 Minifigures.

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 29 May 2011 11:30

The figures alone are worth $10... $7 for a printed LEGO calendar. Nice.

Posted by spency13 in United States, 29 May 2011 11:50

OK, I NEED this set. Why? CUZ OF THE FIGS! Darn, what an easy way to get those two awesome figs. Have I mentioned I only have 1 S1 fig!!?? :) :(

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 29 May 2011 12:05

This is a must-have, totally worth it for the printed bricks alone, so many possibilities for them.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 29 May 2011 14:13

Well, we could all use more Cheerleaders...

Posted by EliteLeader99/brickboy2 in United States, 29 May 2011 14:29

WOW! I WANT THAT!!!! When is it coming out? I have at least one of every series minifigure and except 1 I need series 1!

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 29 May 2011 14:31

Why does it come with a skateboarder? 7 dollars is really cheap, I'm guessing they're Chinese plastic (Or, lower quality Chinese plastic) It would be a interesting take on CM if they released each month of the calender with two different CM in each set.

Posted by spency13 in United States, 29 May 2011 16:17

@brickboy2, I feel your pain, buddy! ;) I wish it would've come with a cheerleader and something else (robot! *cough, cough*) instead of the skater. But, I'm still gettin' a cheerleader, so no complaints. ;)

As I'm the one that got the set and posted it on Eurobricks I can answer some of the questions. The set says that parts were manufactured in Denmark, Hungary, and China. The set cost is $16.99 not $7. The minifigs seem to be the same as the original Series 1 figs. I really didn't want another skater, but hey, what can you do? ;)

Thanks Mariann :-)

Good source for CM, (cheerleader) + printed bricks. I might get it, if I have the chance.

@itsaturkey-the set costs $16.99, not $7. I hope Lego does not use Chinese plastic, too.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 29 May 2011 21:22

Knowing that the minifigs are made in China.....looks promising that the rest is not.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 29 May 2011 23:24

When are the rest of series 1 gonna be at the BUILD A MINI BAR!! Or maybe they never will be O_o

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 29 May 2011 23:28

The set is great just because it comes with 2 series 1 minifigures, and the calender is good aswell, maybe since this calender is september and comes with 2 series 1, that the other calenders with different months will have different minfigures, sounds cool for 16.99, will definatly pick it up. anybody got a release date?

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 30 May 2011 00:42

^ This is not only the September calendar. It includes pieces to make all twelve months of the year. You will have to put the dates in the right places though. So you won't have to buy 12 different months, that would cost a fortune.

I know I'm probably alone in this, and believe me, I do not object to people getting their favourite minifigs in whatever way they can - good for you all. BUT... I actually feel Lego are undermining their own product range by doing this. They could just have easily put in a brand new calendar-only fig. But no, they've got greedy already and plundered the percieved value of their own collectable range already... FOUL!

A collectable series is called such because it's meant to be a whole set of 'chase' figures. How would people who go to great lengths collecting Chrome C3PO, Chrome Vader, etc, feel if tomorrow they released millions of them in an all-new Chrome Battlepack for everyone to buy for a few dollars? Sure it would please everyone who didn't get one first time round - but why, they wanted one because it was rare! - it spoils the whole point of those figs being a chase/collectable figure, if we can just buy one in a set.

Those of us who all 'played the game' in trying to collect the minifigs when the series came out are being robbed of our prize, what with this drip feeding them into other sets or dropping them into Build-a-Fig buckets in some stores. They were meant to be collectable figs from a specific series, not single-fig 'battlepacks' to appear again and again.
IF this (albeit embryonic) trend continues, and we begin to see lots of CM's appearing all over the place in various locations and sets, people will just not bother with them at all (as their collectable value will be no better than a regular mini from a standard set, and the uniqueness of the complete series will have been diluted forever.

But as said, great for people who missed out... but dammit, Lego, this just isn't cricket. :o)

Sorry for misleading people into thinking that this set will only cost $7 in my previous post. I meant that the calendar value was $7 if you take out the 2 minifig... oh never mind.

I believe that LEGO is doing the minifig collectible series a service by re-releasing Series 1 minifigs however way they can. I think that that series was so poorly distributed that people left out should get another opportunity at collecting that series. Maybe this will spawn renewed interest in the other series if more people are able to collect series 1.

I hope that the Zombie and Wrestler gets a similar treatment with future LEGO products.

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 30 May 2011 08:05

vwong19, I totally agree with you that series 1 was poorly distributed, I had no clue about The `Collectable Minifigures`at all, I only found out when Series 4 Came Out!!! So I bought them all for series 4, then I saw some series 3 and picked those up, nad then picked up some series 2 off kijiji.ca but no series 1, so thats why I`m looking forward to the set, ancd also the calender aswell. I also agree that future sets should come with some Series Minifigures or NEW Minifigures, I mean there all the same for city, the same shirt, pants, face and headgear. I need something new for City!

I was in a brand store last week and there were Series 1 parts in the Build-a-fig buckets. When I was speaking to one of the staff they told me that the series 1 accessories wouldn't be there though - so maybe not quite so good news for those who want to complete their sets. My boys took home two clowns minus the horn, a magician minus his wand and a forestman minus his quiver and plume. There were plenty of other parts in the buckets, though red afro's were hard to come by!

From my kids point of view, they loved it - and the build a fig buckets are aimed at them after all. They don't care too much what accessory they get. There was similar excitement last year when they were able to get the jester parts instead of having to buy a whole set just to obtain him.

I think the calender will be a popular seasonal gift of course - but think it a shame that they didn't release two completely new figures go with it though.

As for a release date, its already out. I got the set at LEGOLAND Caifornia and then posted my review on Eurobricks. I don't think anyone saw this set coming. I don't know where the set will be available, but my guess is that it will most likely be at all the LEGOLANDs and LEGO Stores

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 31 May 2011 02:08

On the CM issue, distribution is irrelevant to the issue of integrity of the series. Yes i sympathise with anyone who missed out (as i have done on plenty of other things). But i don't want the things i missed out on to be handed to me just because i missed them.
Most of the value of obtaining a first edition of anything is usually because there will be the fewest of them made and/or they will not be widely available. But anybody who really wants one can still buy them on ebay, bricklink, from other collectors, or wherever that particular item is held.
Just as i could for a Chrome Vader, White Boba, whatever (which also had distribution favouring some over others). I don't complain when one location gets a promo and my country doesn't, I just go online and track one down myself. That's what collecting is all about.

The point is, if LEGO want to do a blind packed series of collectable figures, they (LEGO) should be true to the integrity of the collectable format. They should NOT then plunder the perceived value attributed to one or other figures, just to promote other items. They could easily have created a new cheerleader figure and nobody would mind (hey, i'd even want one myself), but pillaging the CM range is poor form and devalues and defeats the whole point of it being part of a collectables series at all. They might as well produce a few million chrome 3P0's while they're at it so we can all have one.

Looks good but nothing that can't be achieved with some stickers and your regular bricks. Some calendar only minifigs or some more ornate rare pieces for that price would be nice - I think I would pass

You only have to move the days of the week around and change the month name to make it valid forever...

Now technic minds will be looking into automating these functions......

"One thing the review doesn't point out is whether it's been manufactured by LEGO or by their their Chinese outsource partner, Broadway."

Can anyone fill me in about this Chinese partner? What's going on here? My brother gave my son some sets that include minifigures and looks like Lego but does not have Lego on the bricks. Are those made by Chinese partner? Will bricks made by Chinese partner have Lego imprinted? Other than value, health and safety are also big concern to me.

Posted by Brickmatic in United States, 31 May 2011 18:33

^ The LEGO Group (TLG) outsources a small portion of its production to another company called Broadway. There are only a few things that are outsourced, collectible minifigures (CMs) being a prominent example. Now, outsourced parts are still official LEGO parts. There are competitors who produce bricks and other elements that look exactly like LEGO parts but are not. Look at the packaging for the LEGO logo. Many elements will also have LEGO molded on the part.

@legomatt I thought people wanted the chrome figures because they were cool, not because they were rare. My experience is people like shiny.

AWESOME!!!!!
