    We at Brickset don't often get an opportunity to get excited about Technic sets, despite it being one of my favourite themes, having been brought out my dark ages by 8868 Air-Tech Claw-Rig way back in 1994. I've bought virtually every technic set released since then and I am particularly looking forward to this, the largest Technic set ever with over 2000 pieces.

    It's getting coverage over on several real vehicle news sites this week because as it turns out, it's a Mercedes-Benz licenced product being released to celebrate the Unimog's 60th anniversary. Read what's being said over on Car and Driver blog, and then see it dissected for new parts at TechnicBRICKs.

    The article says 'The kit goes on sale in August and will be available from both LEGO and Mercedes-Benz for £190, or about $275 at current exchange rates'  which makes it the most expensive Technic set as well!

    What do you think: your dream set, or way too expensive?

It looks like it has pneumatics! awesome! I always loved that system. It does seem a bit pricey, but if it is going to include electric and pneumatics...I suppose it is a justified price.

I do not have a lot of technic...but I may get this.

I'm absolutely buying this one. Technic is far and away my favourite theme and I didn't think anything would top last year's excavator, yet barely a year later we have this goliath.

I was wondering whether anything would be posted here actually, since Technic tends to get overlooked for some reason...

I also don't think it will actually cost £190. From what I've read, that was about the supposed RRP of last year's flagship, which was £140. My guess is probably that it will be nearer £150-160. Even if it does, I'm still gonna buy it :)

That truck is amazing. Because of the amount and variety of pieces (and the orange panels), £190 is a fair price for the set in my opinion

We don't see many Unimogs in the US, but I do love my Matchbox die-cast Unimogs. This set looks great if you're a fan of Technic (and have deep pockets).

I'm wondering if we would we see any additional Mercedes-Benz licensed products... M-B Formula 1 perhaps.

Wow! I'm amazed at this design. I saw this set before, but never noticed how great this set really was. I like how Car and Driver blog said, "guide the pneumatic gripper arm through nearly 360 degrees of rotation, alter its reach, and grab things (candy, your spouse’s hair, the dog’s tail)", that made me laugh. At $275 I'm not even thinking about buying it, but I wish I could. I could get a few Star Wars sets with that amount of money instead...

$275 is way overpriced, it should only be $150 It seems like LEGO is now inflating prices. :( I could even get the a used Green Grocer, maybe even a new one if luck for $275

I like technic, sort of, kind of. But when I saw this... it was an instant want. That is AWESOME!

And for $275, that's not that bad. The Grand Carousel was $250, and it's no where as cool as this one.

Ehm... In my opinion it looks like some crazy off roader. I prefer the Motorized Bulldozer or the Motorized Excavator.

I will stay clear of this one!

I am very excited about this set... I am getting at least 2 of them for sure. I'm pleased about having a product licensed by Mercedes. I would like to see more licensed products by Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and any car company. I can't wait to get it. I hope to see a model in a few weeks at BrickWorld Chicago.

Unimog is a name that any off-roader knows. This just happend to be the work truck version of the unstoppable Unimog!
I am not a Technic fan, but would definately consider this one. And with lots of Power Functions for the pneumatics on the crane, $275 sounds about right. Maybe LEGO.com or someone will have a sale sometime before Christmas!

I will defiantly be saving up for this :) the technic enzo ferrari was the first set i bought when i came out of my dark ages a couple years ago. And so I love technic and I've been buying most the large sets released since then. But at the supposed $275 price tag, my wallet will be screaming for help!

I sense that there will be a lot of new AFOLs created among automotive enthusiasts given that this is being picked up by all the big automotive blogs now. I see that both Autoblog and Jalopnik have caught wind, which basically means that every single car nut on the internet will soon know about this amazing Lego set. :)

I could just imagine having 3 or 4 of these in a little shed in the garden! I could drive them round to help with the gardening and deliver drinks in the sun :D It would be like you owned your own country park....

No way this is $275. Note that the price stated was in GB Pounds (i.e. not US pricing). We'll always pay significantly less here in the States. I think $199 is a fair price and will definitely pick it up for that.

190 P is too much - 170 euros is a good price. There will be hundreds of technic pins which are worth less than a cent...

According to my set list here, I currently have 43 Technic sets, this will be added to my collection when it comes out, and I may get 2 because I just saw pictures of the second model for the first time, and will probably want to display that one as well, also 2 copies of the Flatbed set. The Unimog is legendary in off roading, just rather difficult to find one in the states.

There is an apocryphal story that some time in the 1970's in Germany a Royal Air force Harrier squadron had a harrier grounded in a field, the local farmer retrieved it for them with a Unimog. I do know that the RAF very quickly bought a small fleet of them and if I remember correctly at a cost of £38,000 each.
I was in Baleze 1977/78 with 1Sqn they had 4 Unimogs, and the ground crew managed roll one into a ditch on the way back for tea.

@Thomson & Thompson : I am not in Europe (where most Unimogs are found) but I will do my best to explain the Unimog:
It is a utility vehicle that has been around since the 50's I believe, if not earlier. It is also a 'swiss army' truck, with many attachments for things like lawn mowing, snow throwing, hole digging, street cleaning.. I am sure I am missing a ton here, but they have their attachments hook to the front, and back, of the vehicle and also have hydraulics and power to the attachments as well.. Plus they are Aces, from what I have read/seen, for off road...
Think Army Jeep on a large scale in terms of flexibility..
Also the interior is designed so the steering wheel can move from left hand to right hand driving as well.
To those in Europe did I do an Ok job explaining the Unimog?

If this UNIMOG is the SWB version at 1/12th scale without the attachments it will be
approx. L 425mm X W 191mm X H 239mm & for our North America friends L 16 3/8" X H 7 1/2" X H 9 3/8"

Impressive size, well done Lego & Mercedes-Benz.

And this "www.mercedes-benz.com/unimog" is well worth a look
