I'm getting the Star Wars one when it comes out.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 10 Aug 2011 12:18

are the advent calendars made of the good plastic in boxed sets, or the Chinese stuff from the CMF's and battle pack sets?

Posted by stevehodges in United Kingdom, 10 Aug 2011 12:40

Its a shame they don't make each one form part of a scene and all link together or be relevant to each other. Something like a room with a tree in it, then presents from the tree, then Santa entering from a window, then maybe mince pies and milk on a table, then some snow, then part of the roof. you get the gist. I seem to remember having lots of little bits getting lost in the last one. Some nice Christmas theme would be a nice idea.

^^ Good plastic, last year anyway

Posted by Markey in Belgium, 10 Aug 2011 12:51

The city one looks boring compared to last year's.

Posted by rocao in United States, 10 Aug 2011 12:53

A crooked-toothed criminal evading police and what looks like another one snatching up presents is not exactly the imagery I hope to conjure up around the holidays :P

Posted by bluelion3 in United States, 10 Aug 2011 12:58

The City Calendar ends with the Police arresting Santa for trespassing.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Aug 2011 13:29

^^^ Particularly at the moment in the UK...

Posted by vamproe in United States, 10 Aug 2011 13:37

The police station that is from the city advent is a new idea.

I don't think lego has even done a building in an advent calander before. I wonder if it will be broken into a number of different daysto make the mini police station.

I like all the vehicles we are geting from it to, a police car, snowmobile. I'm actually more excited about this year than last year.

all the mini toys last year bored me and the santa in the shower was just wrong.

Posted by Dodge in Canada, 10 Aug 2011 14:04

My question is how much more will the the SW one be over the City set? They're usually around $29 or $39 (can't remember which) here in Canada.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 10 Aug 2011 14:05

The Star Wars Advent Calendar looks a bit dull, but I will still get it no doubt. At least it has a Clone Pilot, which have not been released for about two years!

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 10 Aug 2011 14:29

Forget the Star Wars one, it's just minifigs that almost everyone has and a bunch of mini models. I'll be getting the police. Oh, and I do like Star Wars. Don't troll on me. :P

Posted by unleashed in United States, 10 Aug 2011 14:59

i am so excited! although i wish the clone pilot was the newer episode 3 one like in the arc-170. maybe with the shuttle pilot helmet...

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 10 Aug 2011 15:08

More police? Not very christmasy.

Posted by vamproe in United States, 10 Aug 2011 15:08

@ dodge TRU has the city for 34.00 USD and the star wars one listed for 39.99 USD

Posted by Red Five Standing By in United Kingdom, 10 Aug 2011 15:23

Hamleys (UK) has the Star Wars Advent Calendar listed at £25 online. Base.com have it listed for £24.99 (free P&P) and a release date of 20th September.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 10 Aug 2011 16:51

Last years city calendar was a rip off, basically a bunch of mini sets for 35 USD As for this one, although there is an overabundance of police and robbers at least it appears there is more 'bang' for the buck, as long as the calendar is still 35USD that is

SW calendar price for what is in it is a joke.. If they happen to be around on a clearance I may get one.. Sadly it will probably sell out.

Posted by jschwarz in United States, 10 Aug 2011 16:58

It seems like awfully poor taste to have a "Cops and Robbers"-themed Advent calendar. This is no way to celebrate a season that stands for peace on earth. A poor move, in my opinion.

Posted by meyerc13 in United States, 10 Aug 2011 17:33

I hope there is more to the City calendar than this. I don't see much there worth shelling out close to $40 for. More cops and robbers? Got plenty already. I can see it already: Day 1 - police man. Day 2 - another police man. Day 3 - yet another police man. Somehow I can't see my son staying interested in this calendar.

I know a lot of people complained about the non-Holiday oriented City calendars of years past, but at least they gave you a variety of subthemes. Railroad, Airport, Harbor, Police, Fire, Sanitation. I actually liked those sets the best. Last year did get a bit boring with all of the mini-toys. I have a feeling I won't have to rush out and buy a calendar this year.

The Star Wars one on the other hand... that one will probably go doubly fast since the City one is so bad in comparison and Star Wars has a lot of fans.

Posted by Vidiator in Germany, 10 Aug 2011 19:22

The retail prices in Germany are:

7553 = 19.99 €
7958 = 29.99 €

The price difference of 10 €/$ you have to pay for the Star Wars licence - and they know, you fans will pay for it!

So maybe you all should boycott buying this calendar this year - and in the beginning of the next year they adore you to buy it for less than 15 €/$...

Posted by sinfanti in Taiwan, Province of China, 10 Aug 2011 21:41

@ meyerc13 - try keeping a daughter interested with that City advent calendar.

Are we sure that the City one is really an advent calendar? It seems more like an expansion set for the police station. Personally I liked last year's set with all the mini toys. If you have the Winter Village Toy Shop, those are great additions.

Might opt for the SW calendar instead, but not digging the markup.

Posted by mokey2345 in United Kingdom, 11 Aug 2011 06:17

how mutch would a city advent calender be in the uk ?

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 11 Aug 2011 07:10

CITY calendar is lame. The connection to the holidays is lost on me, what with all the criminals running around in that set.

WHY DOESN'T SANTA IN THE CITY SET HAVE THE SANTA TORSO THAT YODA HAS IN THE SW SET??? LEGO missed out on taking that fig up a level for CITY fans.

I guess if you are looking for a Santa fig, you should really buy the SW calendar!

Posted by inorde in Netherlands, 11 Aug 2011 09:12

Wow, I can't remember ever being so disappointed in a new set.

Last year's City Calendar was full of nice small builds, nice mini-models and cool minifigs. This is yet another bunch of police themed minifigs and a very boring building.

I have no idea what they were thinking. This is just an awful set.

I'm going to buy a 2010 Advent Calendar IF I'm going to buy one at all, but definitely not this one. There's still some 2010's available here.

Posted by vamproe in United States, 11 Aug 2011 12:19

I'm still looking forward to the new city advent set.

Last year was a bore for me....once i learnt what was in 2010's I decided not to use it, and put up the sets on brinklink.

I'm really looking forward to the 2011 set.

persnally I's like to see them do a santa workshop advent,

a mrs claus
santa
a few elves
maybe a new reindeer
a sled
a work table
just to name a few

I bought the 2011 city event calendar at my toys r us on monday!

Posted by vamproe in United States, 19 Aug 2011 09:13

I got my city advent yesterday, according to the outside of the box,
the police station will take piece from 4 different days to build
the larger police car will also take piece from four different days to build

I think this is a first for the calander that you need to combine days to build a bigger item.

In my opinion last years advents calendars were better. The City one had quite a festive feel and the Kingdom one had plenty of half decent figs and acceseries.

This years calendars are a bit of a disapointment for me. The City one is 90% revolved around the police theme in which has no connection to Chirstmas [ As I would hope to see it]. The star wars one is ok, the mini sets look half decent but the figures are ones I already have.

I think that they should have made different figures in the sw advent even if they were ones already relased but in different clothing and made the City one have several sub themes or a more seasonal theme like last years.

If I had to buy one then I would get the Star Wars one.

The Star wars one costs £24.99 and the City one is a fair amount cheaper at £17.99 and so it should be really.
