LEGO Store to go East...

...not too far - but it could be a little revolution!

According to serious sources inside LEGO Germany, the LEGO Group plans to open the first LEGO Store in Eastern Germany (beside Berlin). Although there are no hints as to the the city, it is expected that only the state of Saxony could be the correct place for this, because it has the most international importance and the best economic structure (both are very important in connection with the right purchasing power according to LEGO). In addition to this, Saxony is home to Leipzig and Dresden - two cities with each more than 500,000 inhabitants.

Personally, I would prefer Leipzig (and not just because I live there). The city has a clear and efficient structure (short distances), great traffic infrastructure (e.g. one of the biggest train stations in the world and the Airport Leipzig/Halle is an important carrier place in Central Europe, particularly with cargo) and lots of international and business flair (e.g. the Leipzig Trade Fair is the oldest trade fair in the world) - not to forget the many, many tourists!

To its credit, Dresden (as capital of Saxony), similar to Leipzig, has lots of cultural attractions and rich industrial infrastructure.

Both cities have much more to offer than for example, existing LEGO Store "cities" Wiesbaden and Oberhausen together. So it now seems only a question of time before the LEGO Group focuses on Eastern Germany.

So what do you think? Is it justified that Eastern Germany has been waiting so long for its own LEGO Store while Western Germany has aready eight LEGO Stores? And which city do you think will win the race to be home to the first LEGO Store in Eastern Germany?

You mean to tell me that there has NEVER been a Lego store past Berlin? Wow. There is no justification, BTW.

I think Zwickau is the place to be.

Wow. Is this the first LEGO Store that will be built in the former Communist countries?

No, there is one in Moscow, at least there was one: I presume it's still there.

Posted by Vidiator in Germany, 10 Aug 2011 19:13

...but Moscow is not listed here: http://stores.lego.com/en-US/default.aspx

@thepatrix: so you come from Zwickau? Or do you know more..?

I think other candidates could only be: Halle, Chemnitz, Erfurt, Magdeburg or Rostock. But people in this regions are not as rich as people in Wiesbaden or Oberhausen!

Is the store in Berlin not on the eastern part of the town?

I think both places, Leipzig and Dresden, are good for a LEGO brand store.

I would very much like to see one in the Netherlands, in Amsterdam or Rotterdam for example. But I fear our country is just too small...

Well, Germany has some 80 million people and 8 Lego Stores (9 with this new one), so The Netherlands, with its 16 million population should have 1.6 Lego Stores. :-)

In my opinion, Dresden is the better place for a Lego Store. Because there are more tourists then in Leipzig and the Altmarkt Gallerie is the perfect place for the Store.
I dont think, that the people in the east of Germany are poorer then the in the west. I live here and I can say, that we have the same live level then the people in the west.

The Moscow store, there's mention of it here:

http://www.travelmuse.com/pois/RU/48/shopping/gosudarstvennyi-universal-nyi-magazin-gum-state-department-store

and proof it exists/ed here:

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4066pb167

No idea why it's not mentioned on the LEGO.com page though, unless it's shut down now.

@shinukage, No, Luxembourg is small. :P

There should be a Lego Store in at least every country, if not multiple ones.

What do I think? hmmm let me think... Is it justified that the Netherlands is still waiting for its own LEGO Store while the rest of Europe and Nort-America aready have many many LEGO Stores? Well, no!

I went to the Lego store in Colgone (Koln) three weeks ago, it was very good. I rounded a corner and there it was, what a nice surprise, the only one I have been to in fact. That is all :)

Does anybody know whats the opening date of this LEGO store ? Its the excellent news for all Czech T/AFOLs - as you can see on every LEGO package: "Components made in...and the Czech Republic." and we still have none here.
