    8805: Royal Guard
    Collectable Minifigures/Series 5, 2011
    More details...
    ©2011 LEGO Group

Bonzo312 has analysed a case of Series 5 minifigs and reports that the make-up is as follows:

    • 3 Graduates
    • 3 Gladiators
    • 5 Royal Guards
    • 3 Ice Fishermen
    • 4 Cave Women
    • 4 Lizard Men
    • 5 Zookeepers
    • 4 Lumberjacks
    • 4 Small Clowns
    • 4 Fitness Instructors
    • 4 Detectives
    • 3 Evil Dwarves
    • 5 Boxers
    • 3 Egyptian Queens
    • 3 Gangsters
    • 3 Snowboarder Guys

So there are at least three full sets in each box which wasn't the case with some series 4 boxes.

Now that the Ugly Duckling is not running his website any more, it's harder to track where these are available. They've been in the UK for a couple of weeks (in WHS at least) and in the Netherlands (where Bonzo312 is) and I suspect other parts of Europe, but I haven't heard reports of anyone in the USA finding them yet.

The why do I only need the Royal Guard!? Dear me... My bag feeling abilities are poor at best (not a euphemism).

Posted by kylejohnson11 in United States, 10 Aug 2011 17:29

Hey Huw,

I started a map for series 5. It is referenced in this post http://brickset.com/news/article/?ID=1372

Thanks,

Kyle

Posted by voypro in United States, 10 Aug 2011 17:29

Again, there should never be 5 of one fig, when there are 3 of another. I mean really, 5 lumberjacks, boxers, Royal Guards? (BTW What is with the fascination of the "changing of the Guard"? It's a guy getting off work.) They should at least do 5 of more popular figures Graduate, Dwarves, Gladiator.

I am so not in a rush to get these.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 10 Aug 2011 17:31

@CapnRex101 - seriously?! I find my bag feeling abilities working quite well (for series 3 and 4). For anyone having trouble I'd suggest bringing a minifigure checklist and searching (feeling) for the accessories. Something like a gun would be easy to tell apart from other pieces... just don't be afraid to really sqeeze the packages. Feeling up the minifigure bags takes time... especially for those trying to find a whole set.

For the Royal guard I'd start my looking for a bag with a lump. His hat is very big and should porbably be noticed easily when looking at the bag. Then shake the pieces around in the bag and start feeling for the rifle. After that any copies can easily be found by either repeating earlier steps or narrowing the search down with a proven dot pattern (from the bag you would've just found).

I'll keep my eyes peeled for series 5 in CANADA, but they'll likely appear in the US first.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 10 Aug 2011 17:40

@Kyle, great! I hadn't noticed that, I'm still a bit behind the curve after returning from vacation.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 10 Aug 2011 18:02

@ Ypres - I am afraid to press on the bag to hard in case it is the graduate with his cape. But it is not a big problem, I had about 10 minutes earlier and struggled to find one, but never mind.

Posted by ensign_dave in United Kingdom, 10 Aug 2011 18:07

WOW - slightly different quantities to when I first reported on the UK box contents on the 28th July under July's news heading "Series 5 Lands in the UK".

5 x Boxers, Grenadier Guards & Zookeepers
4 x Cavewomen, Detectives, Dinosaur Suit Men, Fitness Dancers, Lumberjacks & Small Clowns
3 x Ancient Egyptian Women, Dwarfs, Eskimos, Gangsters, Male Snowboarders, Murmillos & Graduates

Posted by iefdb in Belgium, 10 Aug 2011 18:12

also available in Belgium in the Dreamland shops

Posted by hssky97 in United States, 10 Aug 2011 18:20

My local TRU is gettin them in a couple days, 14th or 15th of August. I believe the 16th is the release date here in the US.

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 10 Aug 2011 19:39

The release date for them at Toy R Us USA is 08/16/2011. Thats what the website says, but only for ordering online, nothing about pick up or at stores yet.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 10 Aug 2011 21:00

Can't wait for the clown!

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 10 Aug 2011 22:10

Not heard or seen any in Mesa, AZ yet

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 10 Aug 2011 22:33

Interesting ratio...

Posted by sweener in United States, 11 Aug 2011 00:22

Huw that adds up to 61 minifigures per case. Eurobricks claims the same quantities except for 4 Lumberjacks.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 11 Aug 2011 00:36

Yeah, I tried the feel-method with the last couple of series, and I'm atrocious at it. Fingers crossed that somebody at least attempts to crack the bump-code for this series. *glares at Lego for removing the barcodes*

Posted by grandbuilder2001 in United Kingdom, 11 Aug 2011 01:21

They have got series 5 minifigures at the simpsons toyshop in Stowmarket!

Posted by dafish in United Kingdom, 11 Aug 2011 01:57

From Copenhagen, Denmark - available in the online shop since yesterday (yes, placed an order of 16) but not yet in the LEGO store downtown.

Posted by Markey in Belgium, 11 Aug 2011 02:22

I've seen series5 in my local TRU yesterday (Oxford). Unfortunately the box was already empty. I've got 2 complete series of these now, that'll do me (been buying them from WHSmith).

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 11 Aug 2011 02:31

@sweener, thanks, that was a typo by me, I've now corrected it.

Posted by gentleben_ibm in Ireland, 11 Aug 2011 02:59

They arrive in ireland last week in syths toys store

Posted by Snowhive in Germany, 11 Aug 2011 03:08

Series 5 is on sale at MolibobToys in Whitchurch, North Shropshire, right now. They have lots of series 4 in stock too, and plenty of other Lego sets in stock. Slightly limited opening hours...

I have found series 5 in my local Fenwick in canterbury as well as in WHSmith

Posted by JohnnyWashngo in United Kingdom, 11 Aug 2011 04:50

Pick my set up from WHSmiths last weekend - but I need more of the man-in-suit lizard guy. He rocks my world so much ;)

Posted by colingdi in Ireland, 11 Aug 2011 04:59

They're in Smyths toys in the Republic of Ireland at present (or at least Blanchardstown and Millenium Park Retail ones anyway) Not having a bad run either, 13 unique from 16 purchased based on quick look at the bumps.

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 11 Aug 2011 07:57

^^ JohnnyWashngo, I've got two spares. Send me an email via my profile if you'd like to trade

Posted by K-nut in United States, 11 Aug 2011 09:53

5 GUARDS! I'm pretty happy with this distribution only hoping there were 4 or 5 Dwarves.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 11 Aug 2011 10:28

I'm surprised that a dot code sheet has not been made available yet considering it took about 48 hours or less for a code sheet to appear on the internet for Series 3 and Series 4.

The Collectible Minifigures microsite at lego.com has now been updated with the new Series 5 collection (at least here in the US).

Posted by llanowarsoldier in United States, 11 Aug 2011 12:00

Series 5 will more than likely start showing up around Halloween time here in the US just like series 2 did last year.

Posted by mo123567 in United States, 11 Aug 2011 12:46

I doubt very much that it will take till Halloween to see them in the states. Everything I've seen says August, including Toys R Us. I think we will see them any day now.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 11 Aug 2011 13:39

Toys r us says the release/ sell date is August 16th. According to the September Lego catalog, they will be available in September, but no actual date. Target will probably have them in their Halloween section late September early August.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 11 Aug 2011 15:00

@llanowarsoldier - I got Series 2 last year early August.

@starfire2 - You mean early October?

Posted by suckerpunch83 in Canada, 11 Aug 2011 15:22

Can't wait to get my hands on these. I suspect end of August, Early September here in Canada.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 11 Aug 2011 15:51

Yeah sorry I meant early October. :)

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 11 Aug 2011 16:38

^ As I stated above I saw the release date for TRU(USA) for August 16th, now, when I called TRU I asked if that meant they will be released in stores or only online, the girl told me it was for online only, so thats why you have to pre-order them, because they will be ariving at the warhouse on that date and be shipped to your address, store pick up or in-stores will be aviable in the next couple days after that, for all you canandians out there, I'd suggest going to your local TRU in that states instead of here, the price is ridiculous, $3.99 a figure! You can get them in the states for $1.99! That means A Box in Canada cost's $224, and a box is the States cost's $114. So I'd get'em there. anyways Canada wont get them till september october seeing as how we get everything last.

Posted by vamproe in United States, 11 Aug 2011 17:05

@JDLego not sure where you find them for $1.99 USD, TRU in the states has them on-line (preorder) for $2.99 USD.

Posted by suckerpunch83 in Canada, 11 Aug 2011 17:22

Where did you come up with the $3.99 CDN price? When WalMart had them they have always been $2.98 - and WM is pretty good and keeping the same prices or they refuse to stock the product if it rises.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 11 Aug 2011 19:44

yea the price in the states had gone up to 2.99 after series 2.

Posted by malachirobertson in United States, 11 Aug 2011 19:59

Series 5 probably won't stay at $2.99. I think series 4 was that price for a while and then TRU raised the price to $3.49. Other stores still had series 4 for $2.99, but I still bought them at TRU because of the BOGO50% sales made for a better deal than $2.99. The best instore price that I ever saw for minifigures was $1.99 at Meijer (a midwest store like Fred Meyer out west) for stocking stuffers (series 2 and 3). Unfortunately, I didn't realize how good a deal that was or how interesting the minifigures were until after Christmas. I was left with only a few packages to pick from then.

The Target near me in NY had series 4 clearanced out at .74 each

Posted by dmetcalf in United States, 11 Aug 2011 22:36

I just got 16 Series 5 Minifigs at Five Below in Deptford, NJ!
I used the feel-up method and somehow missed the Gladiator and doubled up on the Zookeeper. (I thought the monkey was the Gladiator helmet in a too-quick decision.)

Initial thoughts...

Likes: Ice Fisherman hood, just about everything on the Snowboarder Guy (surprisingly!), the Graduate head and hat, Lizard Man color and head, Detective head

Dislikes: Clown too child-like, just about everything about the Zookeeper, Lumberjack head, no print on back of Detective

Loves: Cave Woman's rubber hair, Evil Dwarf's helmet, absolutely everything about the Boxer (which I had not been really excited about until I opened the bag), the Gangster's suit and especially the guitar case, and my favorite element of all for Series 5: the Lumberjack's beaver hat!

Posted by hssky97 in United States, 11 Aug 2011 23:13

@dmetcalf

Ha, I used to live around the corner from Deptford! Good to see more of these making there way to the US.

Posted by jadblz in United States, 11 Aug 2011 23:54

I picked up a full sealed case at 5 below too! I was in MD though. They had an open case left, but none had sold. I can confirm the US figure breakdown is the same! Managed to pull out 3 sets! This is a great series, but that graduates' robe does not wanna stay down... Love the cavewoman with "soft plastic" hair! Happy hunting!

Posted by yys4u in United States, 12 Aug 2011 00:16

Yay! they hit the US! I told myself I wouldn't freak out about series 5, but now that the first sightings in the US happened, I can't wait!

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 12 Aug 2011 00:32

@Vamproe- Sorry, but yys4u takes it, they were $1.99 at TRU when I went to pick up my Series 2, I forgot. But $2.99 stil isn`s bad.

@SuckerPunch83- My local TRU in St. Catharine`s was selling them for $3.99, I know, Walmart is always cheaper then everybody else. I also heard that Target from the USA is buying out all of the Zellers! So now we might see a better stock of Lego for cheaper for all you Canadians!

I`m just happy I`m seeing them hit the States now, cant wait to get a hold on these!

Been checking in Sacramento, CA, nothing yet, Lego Store does not have either. Going to Legoland in southern California, hoping they will have there.

Anyone wanna swap their series 5 spares for series 4? I have spares of i think all series 4 minifigs except for the evil scientist. Pls email me: callumlucasgray@hotmail.com if interested

Posted by dunedinnz in New Zealand, 12 Aug 2011 06:33

Got a bunch from Toyworld Dunedin today, standard price as well.

The dots dont seem to match up with one of the links above, and managed to feel 15 correctly, ended up with spare eskimo, and spare guard.

Couldnt find a boxer to save myself [not sure if theres something else in the bag, or if I'm just not keen to risk getting one that isnt]

The dwarf has a funny "u" shaped piece which is the beard, its reasonably noticable, and the monkey looks sweeeeeeet.

hssky97: why did you have to copyright it?

Posted by BRICKDAD in United States, 12 Aug 2011 12:14

@grandbuilder2001 When looking at the screen with the crib sheet. Press ALT + Print screen. Then open Paint and click paste. You will be able to save the image. Sorry hssky97, you knew it would happen sooner or later.

Posted by hssky97 in United States, 12 Aug 2011 12:48

@grandbuilder2001 No copyright, just a watermark, sorry.

@BRICKDAD Yeah, it was kinda foolish on my part :P

@BRICKDAD thanks.

There out in TRU in CO.

Found 2 boxes at TRU in Clearwater, FL. One came home with me.

Posted by ETAV8R in United States, 13 Aug 2011 16:13

TRU Huntington Beach had one box out which was about 2/3 full. I went through and got most of what I wanted. There were no royal guards, gladiators, or evil dwarves. I did get a duplicate of the lumberjack on purpose. They are all pretty cool. I wonder what Series 6 will bring us. Sooner or later LEGO will run out of unique ideas.

Posted by mo123567 in United States, 13 Aug 2011 16:40

ETAV8R

There are still plenty of great ideas. Check out the minifig ideas thread on Eurobricks. Not to mention all the counterparts they are releasing (multiple skaters, cave people etc...). This could go on for a long time and I hope it does. I just don't want to see any more price increases.

@schvatts, thanks for the news!!! sorry about you not getting them, though!

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 14 Aug 2011 11:33

@schvatts: are you sure? I was there yesterday and they said that they haven't got them in yet but to call on Tuesday when they get their truck. Hmmm! At least I got my alien conquest promo brick for checking in at foursquare!! Then we went to Chandler and checked in there too!! So between me, my hubby and my 2 oldest we got 8 promo bricks.

Posted by schvatts in United States, 14 Aug 2011 17:33

I am pretty sure. I called the TRU 800# first and they said that store had 60 of them in stock. 5 hours later when I could get there the man at the servise desk started to look for them then asked over the radio where they were and the was told they sold out and check again on Tuesday. Not sure if they really were cause the 800# later still said that store had 60. I hate that store above all the others the employees are the laziest, and the most unfriendly. (Except Teri, she let me do Star Wars on the last BOGO at 50% and not the stupid 40% excluding Star Wars the store was running.)

FYI the Dunlap store still has not gotten them in, but the Goodyear store did and I was able to grab a 16 at random.... got only 9 originals though.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 14 Aug 2011 20:17

The Dunlap store is closing. No new merchandise at all. They are moving to 3rd St and W Greenway. We went to the Arrowhead TRU yesterday around 1pm and the lady at the counter said they hadn't gotten them in yet and even asked the manager who said the same thing. They said try back on Tuesday when they get their truck. So I don't know. I might just wait until I see them on eBay since I don't want that many anyways.

Posted by wswasdib in United States, 16 Aug 2011 18:18

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 16 Aug 2011 19:03

I bought 20 at the TRU at 75th ave & W Bell in Phoenix AZ. No limit. They were really nice. They let me pick through the box and find the ones I wanted. Although some douche walked up and snatched 3 from the row I hadn't even gone through. I think I got what I wanted, but haven't opened to double check.
