LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia

It's not long now until this highly anticipated Dorling Kindersley book is published (mid September in the USA, early October in the UK) so now's the time for me to start promoting it and build up the excitement even more :-)

If you're not familiar with the book already, these sample pages will give you an idea of what an excellent book this is going to be:

Dk Star Wars Character Encylopedia Dk Star Wars Character Encylopedia Dk Star Wars Character Encylopedia

As some of you will know if you've been reading the forums, I took around 100 of the photos that are featured in the book, which I was very pleased to be asked to do given the high regard in which DK books are held. Most of them were secondary small images, such as that of Yoda's back in the third example above, athough I think I contributed a few of the larger ones too. I won't know for sure until I've seen the book...

It's available for pre-order from Amazon for very a reasonable price. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Nice, i will really want to get this book!

Posted by LEGOSLUG in New Zealand, 02 Sep 2011 15:41

WOW huw that looks awesome.
I have the LEGO Star wars visual dictionary, will this book be set out like it?
Please tell. If so I will get it!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2011 15:44

It's roughly A5 size, as opposed to A4 and it'll be set out as shown in the images above, with a page per character. Some major characters with lots of variants will of course have more than one page, e.g. Luke.

Will this come with an exclusive minifig? (Cough Cough Commando Droid Cough Cough)

Posted by James Skywalker in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2011 15:47

Looks great.

On a different star wars lego note the cover of the latest catalogue my son received yesterday has a photo of the new Millenium Falcon in the death star bay, in the background are two lego tie fighters which have new wings! Have Lego accidentally given us a peak at a 2012 release?

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 02 Sep 2011 15:50

Cool book, but does it come with a figure??

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 02 Sep 2011 15:55

i preordered 3. 1 for me and 2 for my sons.

Posted by Captain Maersk in United States, 02 Sep 2011 15:59

This looks really cool. Also, great job on the pictures Huw.
Does this mean we will be getting updates to the minifig galleries? It's been a while since they were updated last.

I love the DK lego books, but a Star Wars fan I am not.

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2011 16:20

my only problem with the DK books, is that they quickly drop out of date. Give it 12 months after release, and this will be missing 25+ new minifigs...

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2011 16:29

The DK books are the best child books I have read, definitely a recommendation to people who have not seen these books before.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 02 Sep 2011 17:06

Congrats Huw on getting many of your photo's into the book.
I already ordered mine. Looking forward to seeing much of your work in print!

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2011 17:11

Can't wait for this, it looks like one of the best Lego related books ever to me!

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 02 Sep 2011 17:20

I really want it. Huw, have you added the book in the database? I don't see it.

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 02 Sep 2011 17:46

@Thomson & Thompson -Is this it

^I didn't think so either.

Posted by grandbuilder2001 in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2011 02:42

Han Solo in ceremonial outfit is included.

Posted by JonnyRonny in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2011 04:41

Have to say its a bit cheesy dk and lego deciding to include a han ceremonial figure in this book due to the luke ceremonial but at least i will have 2 ceremonial figures. Well done on the pics Huw

^^^^/^^^^^ The link was working earlier it had the price and the description and everything on there, except the picture.

Posted by yvo in France, 03 Sep 2011 12:31

Congrats huw for being a part of this excellent result. Like all DK/Lego books, this one looks really great.
Does buying this book using your link gives some money for you / brickset ? If so, I'll pay attention to do it this way when I'll be ready to buy. It's the less we can do for all the good work you put in BS.

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 03 Sep 2011 16:18

@itsaturkey-it will come with a Episode IV Celebration Han, similar to the Celebration Luke that came with the Star Wars Visual Dictionary.

@Huw-nice job with the images, I think you did great with them! I can't wait to get the book.

@JonnyRonny-hey, that's pretty cool, are there any Pirates of the Caribbean deals? I really want the Black Pearl, the Queen Anne's Revenge and The Mill.

@TheCahleySlash-it just comes out blank now.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 03 Sep 2011 17:23

This is the correct database entry for the visual dictionary: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=2853508-1. The other was a duplicate which I've now removed.

Thanks to everyone who's mentioned the exclusive minifig you get with this book, I forgot to!

> Does buying this book using your link gives some money for you / brickset ?

Yes it does.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 03 Sep 2011 18:22

Huw, that isn't the link to the Character Encyclopedia. By the way, it looks great.

^^BooMakuta!, there are two PotC packs, combining 4182 Cannibal Escape and 4183 The Mill and 4192 Fountain of Youth and 4193 the London Escape.

Posted by ShatteredGnome in United States, 03 Sep 2011 23:31

^^^^^ Huw didn't say it was the link to the Character Encyclopedia; it's the link to the visual dictionary.

This book actually interests me a lot; I like that it goes into so much detail on probably most of the Star Wars minifigs we have thus far.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 04 Sep 2011 07:08

^Oh, sorry.

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 04 Sep 2011 11:51

@Tomson and Thompson-I know that, but I don't really like The London Escape or the Fountain of Youth, and The Cannibal Escape is a bit mediocre.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 04 Sep 2011 12:13

^Well, then I guess you're out of luck.

At LEGO.com there is a new SW offer giving you a free magnet set or key chain when you buy either 10188, 10195, 10198 or 10215. It runs until the end of September.

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 04 Sep 2011 16:18

^I am getting sick of LEGO's bad deals. "Spend $99 and get 50% off the R4-P44 keychain!" As if anyone is going to spend $99 on an R4-P44 keychain.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 04 Sep 2011 16:54

^They're just trying to sell products. (I don't think they're very good deals either)

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 05 Sep 2011 19:30

^Of course I know that but they could make some good deals. Such as "Spend $20 and get 50% off." It might give them less money but more customers, which in the end will give them money. Duh, TLG, think!

Posted by LEGOSLUG in New Zealand, 06 Sep 2011 14:34

The Minifigure is Han Solo, when I get it with the book, It is celebration time!
I am definitely getting this book, so I will Review it, in greatly photographed detail!\
The book looks awesome, Huw, does it have ALL the minifigures?

Nice book, I might get it

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 08 Sep 2011 15:31

Thanks so much for all your work on this Huw! I already decided I would definitely buy this months ago when I first found out. By the way, if anyone wants more pictures in the meantime, they've been up on starwars.com for around five weeks now. Here's the link:

^Thanks for the link with the close up pic of han

This book looks fantastic.
What can I say about it? Has anyone got any ideas? Or do I do a whim of the moment comment?

PROS
* New Han Solo Minifigure.
* All the LEGO Star Wars minifigures.
* Our very own HUW has contirbuted to the photos.
* It is cheap in NZ and AU.

CONS

* This book will quickly go out of date unfortunatly, but that IS a good thing--It means will we always get SW sets.
* You cannot BUY it yet, you can only pre-order.

All in all looks good, I am definitely getting this before the end of the year, I will Review it when the time comes.

LEGOSLUG

P.S. Please see and rate my reviews and bricklists, I am doing this to everyone else :{)
