2012 set names and prices

  • 2012 set names and prices

Posted by Huw, 21 Sep 2011 07:49. Filed under Brickset.

If you've searched the database recently for 2012 sets you will have noticed I've put in placeholders (just numbers and themes) for the sets revealed in the Polish retailers' catalogue that's splashed about everywhere except here.

Now, we can legitimately reveal the set names and prices of the first wave of next year's sets because Barnes and Noble has listed them all.  It's not immediately obvious how you get the list from there but thankfully the team over at Toys and Bricks has done a great job collating it all. Feel free to share your thoughts about the 2012 lineup here, or indeed over at TnB. I'll get the database updated here as soon as...

Sweet. Gonna be a great year for 2012. I didn't expect the Planet sets to be that cheap though. They must be small...

Posted by brixton in Canada, 21 Sep 2011 08:12

I'm interested in the Ambulance. I already have a recycle truck so I'll probably pass on the garbage truck even though that's the only other January set that interests me (aside from the Superhero line).

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 08:37

@toomuchlego the planet sets aren't So much a set, more of an egg/planet that have a fig and mini set inside. Is 3817 The Flying Dutchman a POTC set? It seems a bit cheap.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 21 Sep 2011 08:59

Looks interesting, but i'll have to take a better look at it later.

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 09:03

I see one of the themes is called Friends. Could this be the licensed version of the television show, complete with Ross and Rachel minifigs? Shame there's no more Alien Conquest sets on the way.

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 09:04

@andhe: it's posted on the Toys and Bricks forum that 3817 is a Spongebob set, no idea where they got that from. I'm not that fussed if it's not POTC as the Black Pearl has Davy Jones and Bootstrap Bill minifigs

Posted by natro220 in United States, 21 Sep 2011 09:04

@Andhe - from what I've read, 3817 The Flying Dutchman will be a Spongebob Set (although I thought we already saw the last of those). On the show, The Flying Dutchman is actually a ghost/character, not the ship (as opposed to being Davey Jones's ship on POTC). So I wouldn't be surprised if it's a build-a-character thing like the build-a-spongebob was, or the build-a-buzz or build-a-zurg.

No dobut these will be more expensive out of America, but some of them look promising

"I see one of the themes is called Friends. Could this be the licensed version of the television show, complete with Ross and Rachel minifigs? "
Nope...after a bit of huntng these are aimed at girls with a cafe, etc.
Looking forward to the Forest Police Station......I am intrigued!

The city, creator, Star Wars, and technic sets sound great. Can't wait for official images from LEGO :D

Posted by Wiseman_2 in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 10:52

Interesting to note that they now consider the Creator Cool Cruiser to be a 2012 set, though it was supposed to be a summer 2011 release. Anyone know what happened there?

The Technic sets look pretty good, though I am awaiting the large set that's rumoured to be coming in March - the Wood Transporter.

And I don't normally buy city sets, but some of those trucks and that helicopter look very good.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 11:14

Wow! They really weren't kidding about lloyd garmadon, really can't see how this is appealing to children - sounds like someone's idea of a joke to me. I see they're milking the same four ninja spinners - now they're onto kendo, what will be next? Can't wait for the dino sets and like richselby said, it's a shame about there being a lack of new alien conquest sets :(

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 21 Sep 2011 11:18

WHAT?! The FLYING DUTCHMAN is a Sponge Bob character??? I was really looking forward to a giant UCS Dutchman.

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 11:24

The Star Wars sets seem nice. I must confess that I haven't had any of this years sets (only battle packs) the two I wanted (the bounty hunter one and the Jedi fighter one) were too expensive for my liking, I'm guessing because of the amount of new figs in them.
The new battle packs should be good, having 2 opposite sides in each pack.
If there is a fig in each of these new planets, does that mean Selbulba comes in 'LEGO 9675 Sebulbas Podracer & Tatooine'. That would be very good for $9.99!

I'm a little unsure of the Super Hero themes, they seem a little expensive. I'll probably just buy the minifigs and perhaps MOC my own sets for them.

Overall it seems next year will be a good one unfortunately (for my wallet :P)

Posted by natro220 in United States, 21 Sep 2011 11:50

@itsaturkey - see http://spongebob.wikia.com/wiki/Flying_Dutchman
I agree, a big scary pirate ship would have been cool...

2012 certainly looks to be an interesting year so far, but not as much as I hoped. Here's my thoughts on the themes I am/was interested in:

Friends-
I'm in love with this theme! Although I'm disappointed they didn't use minifigs, it looks like those lovely new hairpieces will be compatible. The buildings look surprisingly good, especially the house. The new cupcake bottoms look really nice, and the smaller sets look like cheap ways to get nice parts. I think I'll be getting the two impulses, plus maybe one of the £9.99 sets.

City-
The vehicles theme looks great, especially the car and camper. The car is small and sleek (apart from that nasty little gap behind the back wheel...), and the caravan looks really nice. I hope there's a decent interior to match that great exterior. The minifigs are nice, and I'm loving the new female torso (it looks very similar to the Mary Jane one, but I'm happy for a yellow skinned one. The only issue is the female's hair, The shaggy Dastan hair just doesn't look right. The ambulance is also looks nice, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they included a street corner and a bike. The design looks nice and chunky, the way I like vehicles. The minifigs are okay - I'm happy they included a female, but can't we get that bob in a new colour? I do like the hair, it's just we've had it in black far too much. The police and fire sets don't interest me much, apart from the police station. I love the design, and I hope the interior's good. The new shirts and hats are nice, but again that black bobbed hair should be a new colour.

Dino-
I was excited about this theme, but not so much anymore. The colours and designs are nice enough, I'm just not interested in it. The dinos are nice, but the figs are incredibly boring. No females, hair or even exciting uniforms?

NinjaGo-
This theme just gets crazier and crazier - and I like it! The set designs are so original, and the colours and parts are nice. The figures look great, especially the tailed snakemen. The snakemen on the spinners look horrible, though. It looks like Nya has a new outfit (well, armour and sleeves, at least), plus a slightly altered face (no red eyeshadow plus slightly different eyebrows). I think I'll get the Nya spinner, plus possibly the Venomari shrine.

Collectable Minifigures-
Series 6 looks to be one of my favourites. There's a potential total of 5 females (unsure about the Surgeon, I think I see curves and eyelashes, but I can't be sure), which I'm incredibly happy about. The Spacewoman, Flamenco Dancer, Skater Girl and The sleepy kid are my favourites so far.

Superheroes-
Not interested in the Action Figures, but the minifigs look great! I'm dying to see some of the actual construction sets.

All in all, the new wave is looking quite good, plus quite expensive for me! I look forward to these being released.

Any news on Hero Factory? On the Lego MB they're saying they saw 4.0 on some German. Sounds a lot better then the pirate rumor, but does anyone else have any info?

Posted by sarlacc98 in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 12:27

Lloyd Garmadon? Really? Ninjago gets weirder and weirder every day.

Posted by bluelion3 in United States, 21 Sep 2011 12:54

Are these sets really expected to appear in January, or will we see them in stores in December 2011?

Posted by slave2leia in United States, 21 Sep 2011 13:00

I'm so excited about the new Super Hero sets. I want to know what they sets are, the waiting is killing me. My dream set would be WONDER WOMAN, with her INVISIBLE JET. Other then Batman most of the Super Heroes don't have vehicles so it seems a no brainder to make a the Invisible Jet. How cool would a jet/plane made of all clear bricks be?

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 13:44

My summary would be;

Excited about;
- Dino sets and in particular seeing the HQ in more detail. Should be great for Jurassic Park mocs.

Not excited about;
- A lacklustre Star Wars line up that is re-hashes nearly across the board. Surely we can get something else now other than the umpteenth re-invention of X-Wing and Tie Fighters. Also am not sure why we need another Droid Escape. R2-D2 & C-3PO must be the most plentiful minifigs going.

thoughts?

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 13:57

^ I fully agree with you regarding the Star Wars sets - I don't think I could have been any more underwhelmed with the Star Wars line up for the first half of next year....

Posted by bluishgrey in United States, 21 Sep 2011 14:58

When I heard they were making Droid Escape, I was really hoping we might get a new set with some jawas, tuskens or a new Dewback....... NOPE!

Posted by QwertyLEGO in United States, 21 Sep 2011 15:43

It looks like the city sets are a little overpriced :P but the cant wait for dino and spongebob!

Posted by JonnyRonny in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 16:21

Take It were not aloud to swear on brickset because just by looking at the pictures of ninjago so far they look ******* ****.

Posted by Zackula in United States, 21 Sep 2011 16:44

I heard somewhere that in 2012 LEGO will sell the Ninjago figures without the spinner. Hopefully this is true, the snake guys look really cool, but not worth $10 each. I also think that the 6 new minifigs they revealed from CM6 aren't really that good (with the exception of the surgeon and the Roman soldier).

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 21 Sep 2011 17:08

Pictures? Where?

Posted by secretjedi in United Kingdom, 21 Sep 2011 17:51

Just give me my Marvel Superhero sets!!

Posted by CaptainJonnyBoy in United States, 21 Sep 2011 17:58

All you AFOLs need to stop whining about the Star Wars redos. Ever think that there are children out there that weren't into Star Wars or Legos when the old ones were available? Or how about those of us who missed out? Seriously, think about it. When was the last TIE fighter released? 5, 6 years ago, wasn't it? Someone who was 5 then would be 10 now, and probably into Star Wars and Legos, and I doubt they'd be willing to go scrounging on bricklink or ebay to pay $60 for one. And the same(well, not quite the same) thing can be said of Droid Escape and the Geonosian Sonic Cannon. Also, as new pieces get made, sets become outdated and could use a re-doing. So please, save your criticism for something TRULY stupid that Lego is doing, like spongebob. Rant about spongebob, that at least is rantable.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 21 Sep 2011 18:50

I found pictures of the main SW sets, but not of the Planet sets. Pictures of them? Anyone?
Can't wait for the Marvel sets!

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 21 Sep 2011 19:18

CaptainJonnyBoy - About SpongeBob, for the kids, just like you said about Star Wars. -__-

Posted by Peter1975 in Netherlands, 21 Sep 2011 19:37

Wow, nothing for me this time. No Castle, Pirates, Harry Potter. Oh well, gives me some time to save up money for 2013 and the possibility of searching the internet for some old pieces/sets wich are missing in my collection. :)

Posted by comandercody654 in United States, 21 Sep 2011 19:41

Everything looks great. :D The new stormtroopers better have printed legs like those in the pictures i saw of the starwars sets. :)

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 21 Sep 2011 19:44

Oops, typo. My last post was supposed to say:
On the Lego MB they're saying they saw 4.0 on some German web site.
I clicked on the B@N link, but I can't find the 2012 sets. Help!

Posted by CaptainJonnyBoy in United States, 21 Sep 2011 20:06

@Berrybrick: Not exactly like I said, but you definitely have a good point. Thanks.

Posted by andrewqwy in Singapore, 21 Sep 2011 21:49

Just type "LEGO" in the search bar at bn.com. Once the list pops up just change it to "newest to oldest" and you will see all the 2012 sets.

Posted by legofanatic2414 in United States, 22 Sep 2011 03:18

CaptainJohnnyBoy- I am not that pleased with how much you bashed Spongebob. I AM looking forward to a Flying Dutchman set!

Posted by Redbullgivesuwind in United Kingdom, 22 Sep 2011 03:20

According my local toystore manager the battle packs are going up to £11.50 in the UK and at the moment the Planets hang from the ceiling although they may put in a clear stand after he suggested it

Posted by Dlakii in Australia, 22 Sep 2011 06:28

Ehehehe, "Splitface". Stay classy, HF design team.

I admit that's the first thing I really noticed - the amusing naming choices for HF. I can't say I'm particularly excited for what I see here, though that may change when images are released. I do hope this isn't everything, in the sense that many sads would ensue if its absence from this listing means that Alien Conquest will be discontinued. But eh, if that's the case it's not the end of the world.

I must say, I'm curious about the nature of this "Friends" line. Do you think we're looking at something similar to Belville/Scala, or if it's going to be merely standard minifig-scale stuff with a "feminised" bent? The latter could be something of a fantastic parts boon, really.

@Redbullgivesuwind: Price rise in battle packs, you say? Interesting. Maybe there's a good reason for it - perhaps I was right and they're increasing the number of minifigs per pack, the price accordingly rising?

Posted by fitzyfitz in United Kingdom, 22 Sep 2011 09:09

@Wiseman_2 - I saw the Creator Cool Cruiser in John Lewis today so it's definitely out there already.

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 22 Sep 2011 10:12

These are just the sets for the first part of the year. There will be plenty of summer and fall sets to be revealed.

Posted by CaptainJonnyBoy in United States, 22 Sep 2011 10:36

@Legofanatic2414:
You're not pleased by how much I bashed spongebob? I hardly used 2 sentences! What, you think I didn't "bash" it enough or something?

Anyway, I guess I shouldn't have bashed spongebob. I suppose some people like it. Sorry.

Posted by Gregorovich in United Kingdom, 22 Sep 2011 11:14

@Dlakii-
The Friends theme is minfigure scaled (or, at least, vey close to it), but has a new type of figure. These new figures are much beter than the Scala or Belville ones, though, as they come apart and the hairpieces appear to be compatible with regular minifigures. The fact that it's on a smaller scale also means the buildings are much more substantial than those of last girl themes, plus they have loads of new accessories and bricks. I'm certain this theme will be far more popular than either Scala or Belville.

Posted by Redbullgivesuwind in United Kingdom, 22 Sep 2011 13:31

@Dlakii sorry nope dont get more figures its now two from each side so for endor you get two rebel troops and two empire troops (a storm trooper and a scout trooper) but they have added more stuff in the Endor set you also get a speeder bike as well as a small tree with diffrent moving parts similar to that of the tree in the current battle of endor set

Posted by natro220 in United States, 22 Sep 2011 13:54

@CaptainJonnyBoy - I don't think it was the fact that you bashed Spongebob that he was so much commenting about. But that you were commenting on how kids who were unable to purchase the Star Wars sets 5-10 years ago that are now being rehashed get a chance at buying a new TIE Fighter or X Wing - and then simultaniously bashing one of the more popular themes for kids. I for one think the theme has great minifigs, interesting color/part selections, and not all of the vehicles/locations have been done before...as opposed to redoing most of Star Wars 2-3 times. I as an AFOL realize that we have to have themes that are hits with kids, as they are Lego's target market, and if they start becoming unpopular with little kids, that might spell doom for my favorite hobby...

Posted by icey in Denmark, 22 Sep 2011 15:19

No historic themes on list so far? (Dino's doesn't count) Hope one comes later. The Kingdoms 2011 sets caught a good track with the "civilian" sets (6918 BlackSmith, 7188 Carriage, 7188 Mill village). More such historic cultural sets would cater to the grown up fans.

A "musketeer" theme would be so welcomed, but since they had to fight Cardinalist(?) Lego prop wouldn't go for it.

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 22 Sep 2011 15:35

@icy117 if they made a musketeer for CMF no reason they wouldn't make a theme.

Posted by icey in Denmark, 22 Sep 2011 16:16

@ncbarrett: The Musketeers are not the problem... the thing is that Lego usually have two fighting fronts to make up a successfull theme (Kingdoms, Pharohs Quest, Atlantis etc.) and the Musketeers contra part would (if they follow the Dumas' books) be the Cardinalists. And though any historian would state that it was purely a political force (and not a religious) I guess Lego is too careful to spark any controvercy by portraying fighting "Catholics" (or any other religious group) in their themes.

Posted by spency13 in United States, 24 Sep 2011 11:01

Yes, Flying Dutchman is going to be a Spongebob set, which I am very excited about! Based on the price, it will probably be a very small set (maybe Davy Jones' Locker?) but I am excited for another chance to get a Genie tail in green! (LOVE SPONGEBOB)

Also, I LOVE Series 6!! S6, for me, is the best as there is no repeats (except for the Robot and the Space Heroine, although I don't have the S1 versions of those anyway.)

Lastly, I am very excited for my new DC Superheroes sets! (I'm excited for Marvel as well, but I've always liked DC better). I love the minifigs they showed at Comic-Con and I'm hoping the sets are equally as good.

(Now only hoping for more Harry Potter!!!!)
