Ooh, that's some pretty stuff. I admit that I'm not comfortable with the idea of LEGO openly advocating buying multiples of such an expensive set just for the sake of creating a more complete version, especially when just one copy alone doesn't look all that physically substantial; the bridge's lack of thickness, for one, kinda bugs me. It's still a very pretty set with some nice construction techniques and detailing, not to mention a great minifig array, but it just doesn't seem right that LEGO is suggesting - nay, promoting as a feature! - buying two instead of beefing up the set in and of itself. (Of course there's nothing actually wrong with buying multiples of your own accord, and many people would've done it anyway, but when LEGO itself is suggesting it...)

What it's really asking for is to be arranged alongside the old Medieval Market Village. Now that, I daresay, would be very enjoyable.

Its about time Lego put a set out thats worth the money! 8 cents per piece is definitely cool. However I gotta agree with @Dlakii on some parts, such as the bridge being too narrow. As cool as it is, I still don't think its as... "afol friendly"? not sure how to describe it... It seems like medieval market village and imperial flagship was more detailed I guess. But still I noticed some interesting build techniques. this is a set I'll be getting

I have been waiting for months like most people, and I am so happy LEGO have got the Black Falcons back! Does this hint at a return for them, as well as the Cursaders, Forestman and Black Knights? I sure hope so!

@Dlakii, I totally disagree!! I think it would have been great if they had designed some other sets this way, with the option to just get one and have an open back for playability, or to get two and put the two halves together. Especially the Pharaoh's Quest Scorpion Pyramid and The Temple of the Crystal Skull... I bought two Temples of the Crystal Skull so that I could make a full square Mayan Pyramid. I am sure a lot of people will want to "double up" on this one! =)

Fantastic, I have just started getting some of the Kingdoms sets, for me (and my niece) and was just thinking I would love a queen . I've missed some great early sets, but this is wonderful. So now I can get a queen and a great set (even if for $199 USD). I might wait for a sale though.

This is an incredible set. The Castle/Kingdoms line has had some great sets in recent years. I think LEGO's design of the set to entice consumers to buy multiples is ingenious even if I disagree with that approach.

I really hope this isn't the end of Kingdoms. Kingdoms is the only castle theme I ever really liked. But if it is the end this set makes up for it!

For those of you who are complaining about the option of combining 2 sets, what's the problem? Would you rather lego came out with a single set for twice the money, thereby alienating a large number of people who can't afford it? I think this is a fantastic set undeserving of complaints (although from my experience on this site, complaining is something that many lego fans love to do!)

@skherbeck: In fact, I would rather they bring out one set that's twice the price. If it were a large $300 set with 3000 pieces, the designer would have given it a much more interesting build than two sets with 1500 pieces each. I definitely plan on getting and combining two sets, 'cause the price is good and the final result looks great, but it could have been a less repetitious build as one set.

^@skherbeck Yea I'm kinda complaining about the 2 sets, cause I first saw it as two sets and thought i looked amazing and definitely worth the price and I would have bought it the instant it came out. Now...it just looks like a facade, the big gate literally looks like its cut in half. at least with the MMV you could open it up or close it to make a complete building. I'm still probably gonna buy it, but I need more convincing now, such as reviews, more pictures etc.
And I would PREFER they come up with some kind of medium between one set and two sets and release it for say 150-170

Almost all people from our forum are totally happy that Kingdoms theme is still alive, even with just one set (i still can't believe it, like in case of four 2011 sets, so this will be the second miracle for me) .
Believe me, most of the people (doesn't matter if they are 20, 30 or 40 - i'm in everyday contact with them) loves the Castle sets of the 80's, beginning of the 90's or the 2007+ sets (what was inbetween is mostly forgotten), so i'm sure that this is the right way which should be continuing in next years and will make the people happy.
What about this new set, i wish i would have money for 10 boxes, because it's something incredible, especially the return of Black Falcons, just shame that only one is present (would be totally GREAT to release another Black Falcons sets after over 20 years, they are one of the most popular fractions within castle community).
So, and now is the right time to start save so much money as possible for this one!

@ flyguy - couldn't agree more. Great looking set, particularly with the return of the Black Falcons.

Unfortunately the pricing is evidence of yet more price gouging by Lego on Aussie/Kiwi buyers. That price is 13c per piece. What on earth justifies that price? Where do they think they are shipping this set? Mars?

Lego Australia Pty Limited, 100% owned by Lego A/S and with a board of directors comprised predominantly of Americans, clearly has lost its connection with the local market and fails to see the growth opportunities created by the appreciation of the Aussie dollar against other currencies. Instead it seems the company would prefer to rest on its laurels. Australia/NZ may not be a key Lego growth market but it is a steady earner of around 25 million people.

Consumers are waking up to this scam - a number of my non-AFOL friends with kids have noticed Lego's lack of price movement (compared with its competitors) and have remarked on it to me. You need only to look in any Aussie department store to see that Lego is dying on the shelves other than at 20% off sale times. Then there is the increasing scourge of the various "exclusive" deals on various sets with various retailers. Good luck finding out who's stocking what becuase Lego's Aussie/NZ "Customer Service" line is a 2 minute recorded message which essentially says "Don't bother me, I'm busy."

I wonder what 2012 has in store for Aussie Lego fans ... a "sop" in the form of a Lego store in Sydney or Melbourne charging the same outrageous retail prices is my guess. Here's a suggestion Lego - increase your VIP ratio for online Aussie/NZ buyers right now (no gimmicks, special offers or 'limited time only" fluff) to give the equivalent of a 20% reduction on your "shelf" price. That will see Aussies/Kiwis at least paying something approximating what the rest of the planet is paying - at least online anyways.

Add to comments above that Lego can't do math for $ / € conversion and just go with US $119.99 = DE 119.99 € and you have the sad conclusion that TLC worries only about the NA's market and don't care about the rest of the world.
But anyway this is an endless discussion, and as we all know (including TLC) we WILL buy this set ; so let's do it with happiness ! ;-)

For this set I have to say I think lego should just sell an add on set seperatly for £50 as when combining you use no way near to all of the pieces. I think I will end up buying 1 full set from lego then just the bits i need to combine on ebay or bricklink.

I saw this set in person at brickcon seattle, it doesn't feel like a facade when it's right in front of you. I will buy two just because I buy two of EVERY set I love, I offset the price by selling non essential parts. You won't need two, connect it to your king's castle. Sorry to hear about the prices in Oz, I'm moving there soon. The black falcon shields look so (explitive) good.

Please stop to cry about the price of the set in Australia, Western Europe, or NA.
People from Eastern Europe can buy theoretically only 1-3 boxes of this set from their (monthly!) avg. wage, in Central Europe mostly 6-8 boxes (depends on country, here are very big differencies within Central and Eastern Europe), in Western EU, NA, Australia 10, 15, 20 or more boxes.
What would you say if you would have to pay 300, 500 or 1000 EUR/USD/AUD for this set? Because for many people in some coutries it will be so in comparing with their income.
And i don't write about other regions, where people have no chance to get just one box of this beauty.
So if you can buy just one or two copies without big problems, be happy and think about i wrote. You're the winners.
[probably the numbers i stated above are not 100% correct, but they are close to reality and that's pretty much enough for your imagination]

Nice set but for $200 aud forget it. There's no way this set is worth that much. I sympathize with my fellow Aussies in regards to pricing but the fact is that most things are cheaper in the US, not just Lego. A better comparison would be with the EU and whilst we still pay more, the price differential isn't as great.

At the end of the day though, no one is forcing us to buy at some of these ridiculous prices. It's really your choice what you spend your money on and you always have the option of buying something else if you feel that it's not worth it. And if it makes you feel even better, Asian prices are even worse than what we have in Australia.

Wow I really really love this set, and I am definitely going to buy it!

I got my first castle set #383 (classic castle Knight's Joust) when I turned four in the summer of 1979. I emerged from the dark ages last summer in 2010, only to plunge right back into the Medieval times when I started to collect Castle/Kingdoms Lego again. I love how the design of the Lego sets has evolved since then, yet has the same feel it had when in 1984 Lego introduced my personal very favourite childhood Lego theme.

Although I do miss the Fantasy elements (of which I fortunately have been able to collect a couple still) with the cursed enchanted undead skeletons, mischievous trolls, giant ogres, dwarfs, and the huge winged fire breathing dragons from the previous preceding caste theme (which was called simply 'Castle'), the 'Kingdoms' theme is a worthy successor to last theme. I might even, just like I did with the medieval market village, buy this 'Kingdoms Joust' set twice.

I hope Lego will continue the current 'Kingdoms' theme for at least another year or maybe even two or three more years. And I would welcome it very much if Lego introduced more factions. The preceding castle theme had four factions: Crown knights; dwarfs; skeletons; and my favourite antagonists *beats the drum* the trolls! I really miss those malicious green skinned party-poopers, and I would not mind Lego designing new sets with trolls in them. But since Kingdoms is supposed to be more sort of historical, I would love to see some sort of Robin Hood gang of outlaws make their re-entry to the Lego castle world, as well as more knightly contenders, with different designs, colour scheme's all bearing their own unique coat of arms.

The Black Falcon knight with his horse with barding looks really nice. Although as some people already mentioned, I would have preferred him with a white feather on his helmet, and also would have preferred a black hound's helmet (the nicest type of knight helmet in my opinion) with a black or silver visor which can be opened, instead of a bucket helmet with hides all of his face. I wonder if the Falcon knight's print on his torso underneath his chest-piece armour is different from that of the print the Dragon knights have, or if it is exactly the same!?!?!

It would in addition also have been even better, in my opinion, if the set in contained an additional Black Falcon foot soldier as a squire to accompany him next to the neutral stable-boy / peasant boy, instead of just the two Lion King's foot soldiers / guards the set contains.

The set does not seem to contain any large bricks (which too sometimes can be very handy), but many many small ones which allow for more creativity, and I like the overall design. When you throw in the bricks of this set with the bricks from the Lion King's castle (set #7946) I bet you, you can make plenty of nice MOCs!

I love all the minifig's from this set, although I already have the queen which also came with last year's Kingdoms advent calendar. But the noble man and the lady or princess or what ever you desire her to feature as in your Legoverse are new. Which too are very welcome as I desire a larger amount of non-military uniquely dressed minifig's to inhabit my Lego castle world, I hope more and more different medieval civilian and artisan minifig's will follow, preferably with a much larger array of different medieval style hats, caps, and many coloured hoods too!

Anyway........

Lego Aust. P/L, forces Australian to by from from Ebay, I bought my excavator 8043 new in box from Netherland, included postage I paid about AUD 250.00. After 20% discount here, Aussies still have to pay $280.00. For this Kingdom set, Aussies have to paid 65% more than the American. if the Americans buy at a 20% discount, than Aussies are paying 100% more.
I go to Hong kong from time to time, I will ship my lego from Hong Kong instead of buying here, the price of lego in Hong Kong is very comparable to that in US. Bulk shipping of half a cubic meter ( about 10 big sets) is not that expensive at all. Any way No business to Lego Aust. P/L.

Again i ask the people that run this site to get a petition on pricing going. i payed $235AUD for 8043 new in box from the usa. i never pay retail for lego in oz and only buy when stuff is on sale. i got the city fire chopper and boat for $29AUD at big w.
there was a doco on the lego factory on nat geo and ALL LEGO WORLDWIDE IS SHIPPED BY DHL FROM THE CHECH REPUBLIC TO RETAIL STORES. LEGO HAVE DONE A DEAL WITH DHL SO I DARE SAY THEY DONT PAY WHAT THE ORDINARY PERSON WOULD. IF I CAN GET A LARGE SET FROM THE USA $120 CHEAPER THAN RETAIL THEN THAT SAYS SOMETHING!
pricing should be simple. a set cost x to produce plus y for profit. then shipping costs and taxes to the relivant countries get added plus retail profit. australia should pay at most 10-20% more than the usa. if the lego group priced right then sales would triple and profits increase. you would have your usual lego buyers spending a bit more plus a new range of buyers who would now see lego as a resonable priced toy.
