Another Sun newspaper promotion coming up

  • Another Sun newspaper promotion coming up

Posted by Huw, 01 Oct 2011 10:40. Filed under Shopping (UK).

It's hot and very busy at GWLS but I've just found the time to let you know that starting next weekend we'll all be traipsing down to WHS every day for a week or so to grab the Sun for another set of free polybags. No word yet about how many or which sets: the small piece in today's paper just says it'll be starting next Saturday.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me about this and even showed me copies of today's paper at the show!

I can't decide if this is good news or not. Yay to free lego, boo to the stress of trying to get some everyday! Best warn work I'll be in late every day

Any idea of the theme this time? eg Ninjago, star wars etc?

Posted by dmetcalf in United States, 01 Oct 2011 12:18

Does anyone know: if I picked up a copy of the Sun in the US, would it have the free set in it?

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 01 Oct 2011 12:20

^The set doesn't come in the paper, you have to trade the voucher in at a whsmiths or TRU (usually)... so I'm guessing your answer is no :(

I've never been able to be bothered with these freebies the last few times they've been on offer, but now I'm at college every day of the week in close proximity to a WHS, I should be able to get them this time. Yey!

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 01 Oct 2011 13:38

Not the Sun again.... I was hoping for a return to the good old Mirror. Let's just hope there are no TV ads, as my WHS had run out every day last time....

Here we go again, it's a pain to get the sets everyday, but it's worth it as there's usually some exclusives in it. Wonder what the sets will be this year?

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 01 Oct 2011 14:35

^ it was awesome, really busy, absolutely amazing models plus the bonus of seeing the newly announced sets in the flesh. Also bought the post office there, which I'm debating whether to start building now. Only downside was the sweltering heat (i know, we brits do love to moan about the weather!)

Anyway, back on topic, looking forward to seeing what the promo sets are, fortunately it shouldn't be too hard for me to get to a Smith's

It was manic last time. Speculators going in to WHS buying 10 papers at the time... Some Star Wars minifigs pls!!

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 01 Oct 2011 15:53

@LegoCoastGuard: Hey, at least it's better than the News of the World... :P Wait, it's managed by the same people... :P

Posted by Bricknation.com in United Kingdom, 01 Oct 2011 16:12

@atkinsar

-Saturday: Lego phone hacker
-Sunday - err nothing, cos they shut the paper LOL

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 01 Oct 2011 16:16

@Bricknation.com: Sunday: Loads of minifigs representing the News of the World staff. XD

From my own experience, it works out better value to simply but the bags off eBay. The cost of getting to town and buying the paper (each day!) simply doesn't make sense.

Getting these are so worth it - one of the stalls at GWLS were selling last time's one's for £10 each! Time to stock up...

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 01 Oct 2011 17:08

^ I agree, it is definitely worth getting multiples. Couldn't believe some of the prices I saw at GWLS...

Posted by George G. in United Kingdom, 01 Oct 2011 17:50

^I know! They we're trying to sell single Tautauns for £6.50 each - not too long ago you could buy the whole set they came in for 8 quid each from Tesco...

I know this is slightly off-topic, but I feel it relates to LEGO events this weekend:
In the US this weekend, there's a LEGO Store Grand Opening in Pleasanton CA. I was there this morning and scored a special exclusive minifigure set for the store's opening.

There are 5 stores opening in September to October in the U.S. this fall...

No promos for us in NA. But, we do have Bricktober.

^Really? Any in Canada?

Posted by maxfischer in United Kingdom, 02 Oct 2011 01:13

Haven't TLC been watching the news this year? Thinking of boycotting this promotion, really don't want to give any more money to those crooks at NI.

Posted by jon11380 in United Kingdom, 02 Oct 2011 01:57

@ maxfischer - Whilst, I understand your fustrations of dealing with NI and your reluctance to relieve them of LEGO, the only difference between NI papers and the others is that NI was caught!

An ad from the Sun for this promo has been posted on Eurobricks featuring a kingdoms fig (king?) so I guess its reasonable to assume one of the sets will be from the kingdoms theme.

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 02 Oct 2011 11:20

^ Nope, the king was on the TV ads and in the papers last time.

^ Boo! Should have known better than to trust NI...

Posted by Ad the brickmaster in United Kingdom, 02 Oct 2011 11:57

YES!!! After seeing what I got for 25p for sale for £4.00 at the GWLS today, I can't wait!

Posted by ensign_dave in United Kingdom, 04 Oct 2011 02:13

Come on The Sun - why the secrecy in what sets will be available? I'm getting fed up of checking chat rooms every day to see if anyone has any idea what the giveaway sets will be from this Saturday. Does anyone out there have a clue yet?
