(Probably) the last of the PotC sets has made its way into shops across the globe, with several people finding it in Target in the USA, and in Poland.

Nori has posted an excellent pictorial review in the LugPol forums, and sidersdd has posted superb photographs of the minifigs in the Brickset forum.

It does look like an great set but it appears that, unfortunately, Davy Jones is of far-eastern origin and therefore inferior 'collectable minifigure' quality which is a real shame. Nevertheless I look forward to buying it when it's available in the UK.

Is there anyway of telling Davy is from China from the pic?

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 07 Oct 2011 08:44

The ship looks awesome. But, I don't want it.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 07 Oct 2011 08:49

^^ The tell-tale sign is that he is packaged in a polythene bag inside the main parts bag, like the Woody/Jessie figures from the Toy Story sets. This indicates that the sub-assembly was made and packed like that in China then shipped to the main packaging plant.

Hopefully getting this from my sister for Xmas, how will I wait that long?? Despite Chinese quality of Davy Jones, he is still one very cool minifig.
BTW genuine, non-US/GB usage, typo in 'colectable' [sic] - sorry, the proofreader in me can't help noticing! ;-)

So it doesn't appear to be much smaller than the Reveng of Queen Anne ship, despite having a square back end, although the sails in the photos blocked the view somewhat. Any thoughts?

Shoot! My wallet is already crying from all the sales and new sets, now I have to get this!!!! *_*

Any one seen it at LEGOLand CA?

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 09 Oct 2011 18:13

Why is the Davy Jones "of far-eastern origin", I thought all sets were originally made in Denmark?

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 09 Oct 2011 18:54

components for Lego sets can be made from Mexico, Chech Republic, China or Denmark. Then they are assembled in Denmark.

does anyone have this and the Queen Anne's Revenge? i bought the Revenge and planned on displaying the Pearl with it when she came out- but it almost looks like a smaller scale

Posted by bill.berardi in United States, 10 Oct 2011 09:48

I do have both, its a little smaller then the revenge but not by much. Some of the figs are new and unique to this set. The ship itself is not as impressive as the revenge but i do recommend it for any lego ship and lego pirates of the caribean collector's.

I have heard a lot of people talking about the new black hull peices and they are saying that they don't like them. But when you look at it from an actual sailors point of veiw if you wanted to build an exact replica of the U.S.S. Constitution, you need to have BLACK hull peices. If you have ever seen a photo or the real Old Iron Sides, it has a black hull. I plan on trying to get it when I go the lego store next month. I will try to tell you everything I can about it. The only problem is it's $100, which will run me out of money for at least a month. So altogether from just looking at the pics:

Size: 8/10 I think it should be a bit bigger.

Color: 9/10 Good if you want to build a U.S.S. Constitution.

Price: 4/10 BB was $100 when it came out. I got it for only $70 (sale). BP is $100, but it is smaller than BB so it should be less. But one thing I think the price is right about is Davy Jones, Maccus, and the stern lateen sail. Those are nice. Only three ships have them, BP, QAR, and SES. This ship is really about "playibility" which as I have read on Classic Pirates is what brought the first series down.

Have to admit, I find the Black Pearl disappointing, especially after the Queen Anne's Revenge. I thought the Black Pearl should have been at least on the same scale, if not bigger. It is the signature ship in the movies.

Hmm. I do really like the minifigs though. I like the way they did Davey Jones and his crew. I'd love to see Lego do a Flying Dutchman set (perhaps with kraken?), but more on the scale of the Queen Anne.

edit:
After checking out the link above I'm starting to get won over by the set...
