This article on the ToyNews website lists many of the sets we have seen pictures of already but also mentions "Power Miners" which sound like the return of Rock Raiders - a theme that had many appealing features, but was released at the time when LEGO were excessively juniorising many of their sets. Let's hope that's not the case this time round!

sounds alot to me like rock raiders are returning with a different name

Posted by LEGO 50 in Philippines, 28 Aug 2008 10:30

So does that mean only 2 new Indiana Jones sets ?

Posted by Captin Rex in United States, 28 Aug 2008 10:52

i have a few rock raiders sets.

Posted by Kulturkampf in United States, 28 Aug 2008 11:00

Unfolding race tracks built into the packaging? I dont like it, it's not LEGO...

Posted by A1565 in Canada, 28 Aug 2008 11:34

Its probably similar to rock raiders, if not a re-release of it.

Posted by Jimmy Hopkins, 28 Aug 2008 11:48

Like mars mission is like life on mars

Posted by indyjones in United Kingdom, 28 Aug 2008 11:51

yer lego are getting less imaginitive. when will they realise, you recycle paper and rubbish not ideas! but good theme.

Posted by Ovid07 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 12:45

I think it's a good thing that Lego is revisiting some older themes. Even though this isn't quite as creative as creating new themes (like farm), it still shows more creativity than implementing liscened themes like Star Wars.
As for the new power miners theme itself, I agree that it would be great to see less juniorization.

Posted by simonskluk in United Kingdom, 28 Aug 2008 12:46

anyone heard anything about new trains?

are the construction sets - re-releases of the ones from 2005 city?

Posted by thelegokitty14n5 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 13:13

Hmm the old themes rise again! Now I can get some monsters..

Posted by Jon_Brick in Canada, 28 Aug 2008 14:58

I love when they bring back old theme and sets cause rock raiders had nice pieces hopefully power miners will to

Posted by matzoman4, 28 Aug 2008 15:05

This new theme sounds a lot like an Earth-based Mars Mission with crystal digging, I hope it doesn't replace MM

Posted by peppermintmecha in United Kingdom, 28 Aug 2008 16:32

I really loved Rock Raiders (i have the PSone game floating around somewhere..) I hope these new sets are near enough to be thought of as a spiritual successor. Like Agents is to Alpha Team.

Posted by hustla187 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 18:25

I hope they bring back the Tunnel Transport because that would be pretty cool.

Posted by hustla187 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 18:44

Where are the images for the Power Miners sets?

Posted by Hewkii1992 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 19:25

I really have a good feeling for this theme, I just hope that the builds are improved and less bulky. I'd also like to see enclosed cockpits and sleek designs... but I feel that I am going to love this theme no matter what. :)

Posted by Da_LegoBuilder in United States, 28 Aug 2008 19:28

hey I have another website that gives us more info on 2009 SW lego sets.

Heres the link:

Posted by SillyQuack in United States, 28 Aug 2008 20:46

No LEGO has learned from those pieces of crud junior sets. They will never do that again.... Sounds great though! Hope they bring back those mining helmets!

Posted by Gus263 in Brazil, 28 Aug 2008 21:01

I thibk that those Power miners will not replace mars mission, but another space theme will. I will wait those half stone half monsters or half crystal half monsters...But I pretend know more about the new space sets.

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 21:20

I hope they still use the turquiose parts. in the new miner sets. I also loved all of the caution striping in Rock Raiders.
Any intel on WHAT they are mining?

P.S. Rock Raiders RULE!!!

Posted by LSW_obsessed in United States, 28 Aug 2008 21:55

YAY!!!!!!!!!!
new rock raider
i used to get those when i was a kid!!!!

BUT, i really, really want the new star wars sets!!!!

Posted by dmcbuilder501 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 22:47

A new theme with be released next year, called Power Miners.

Official description from LEGO:

[Launching in January, Power Miners will have year-round marketing support including a full PR campaign focused on the childrens’ press, online marketing, Lego Club campaign, in-store promotions including Toys R Us end-caps from February and FSDUs and window displays for independent stores.

Power Miners features a team of miners that dig into the Earth’s crust and encounter half-rock/half-crystal monsters. The range features collectible vehicles and mini-figures and monsters.]

Posted by dmcbuilder501 in United States, 28 Aug 2008 22:56

I hope that they bring back the chrome drill bit piece, the unique headgear, the monsters(maybe part crystal), and the transparent crystals with even cooler drilling vehicles.

Posted by BatonMedved in Russian Federation, 29 Aug 2008 03:47

My wish is only to have lighting laser-like thing from it.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 29 Aug 2008 12:12

I never really got into Rock Raiders, so I don't know what I missed, but this "Power Miners" concept (particularly the rock monsters angle) sounds strangely intriguing...

Posted by aquafreak125 in United Kingdom, 29 Aug 2008 14:33

sounds exciting, can't wait to see pics and I'm SO getting the republic attack shuttle (the one in the beginning of the clone wars movie)

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 29 Aug 2008 16:50

Lego dosen't even come up with "IDEAS" anymore they just rerelease the old set. The only thing they have to do is come up with a NEW name thats it.

Posted by Stealth Bomb in United States, 29 Aug 2008 21:53

Sounds good to me. Can't wait to see the half-rock, half-crystal creatures.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 29 Aug 2008 22:15

I'm very intrigued by this. Here's hoping LEGO doesn't mess up the return of Rock Raiders!

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 30 Aug 2008 20:14

Same with Pirates!:)

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2008 08:29

Will this be instead of Piartes? I hope not, but it isn't mentioned in that article if i remember.

Posted by Pellinoire in United Kingdom, 31 Aug 2008 10:50

I thought the news about the Indiana Jones set, Fight on the Flying Wing was the best bit. The plane is a very interesting design. I hope they can scale the vehicles back a bit as many of the recent ones have been too big - the Coast Guard Unimog (7726) is the worst instance of this, don't get me wrong it is a nice set, just too big.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 31 Aug 2008 12:45

Don't worry, legoguysw, Pirates is still set for a comeback in '09. Rest assured, both Pirates and Rock Raiders are returning!

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 01 Sep 2008 09:33

I wouldnt say that M.F the 'power miners' stuff is probably just a fake rock raiders.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 01 Sep 2008 12:31

Well, this sounds like a sucessor to Rock Raiders, just as Agents is to Alpha Team.

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 01 Sep 2008 18:27

Im not sure how Agents is a reference of Alpha Team.Besides what kind of themes name would be 'Power Miners'.

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 01 Sep 2008 18:42

Oh wait, now i saw how Agents is a sucessor to Alpha Team in the browse.

Posted by Luke Skytalker in New Zealand, 02 Sep 2008 01:38

I would hope that power miners originated from power functions because a power functions mining set would be cool. Also, ANOTHER bulldozer??? Why do we need another bulldozer. I think that 8275 is the best one and we don't need anything else. It looks like the lego star wars production line has now just turned into clone wars. I don't want to buy toys from cartoons! I'm going to try to stick to the original star wars - apart from the gunship.

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 02 Sep 2008 09:58

I know what you mean Luke.About the bulldozer and all.P.S Why did you write your post in 1.38 in the morning?!

Posted by Jimmy Hopkins, 02 Sep 2008 14:44

Luke probably lives in a different country from yours. Anyway, I agree with all your comments about lego juniroising sets, but you guys have to remember that lego makes these for KIDS not for some "AFOLs."

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 02 Sep 2008 14:53

Its not my fault i didnt know.I just dont like the idea of 'Power Miners'.Why cant Lego just re-release Rock Raiders?I mean i know if they have power miners then we all get unique pieces but what if its not a good idea.I have a bad feeling about this.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 02 Sep 2008 17:14

Well, you don't have to buy any of it. (Ah well, more for the rest of us. Heheheheh

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 02 Sep 2008 17:26

Hey! they may have good pieces!Im not saying im not gonna buy it.You dont have to act that way.You know what im just buying 'Power Miners'!I admit!

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 02 Sep 2008 22:54

That's the spirit, old boy!

Posted by skyscraper in United States, 02 Sep 2008 22:57

ROCK RAIDERS ARE BACK well so far it sounds good but I really hope they don't mess it up. The rock raiders were my favorite sets when I was growing up :)

Posted by dmcbuilder501 in United States, 04 Sep 2008 20:45

I have seen the new power miner sets the pics suck though

Posted by dmcbuilder501 in United States, 04 Sep 2008 20:45

they don't look that cool but that could be the pic

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 04 Sep 2008 21:11

Where did you see them at?

Posted by EXO FORCE in Malaysia, 05 Sep 2008 05:38

Brother Brick shows some pic of it recently

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 05 Sep 2008 10:50

I just saw the pics right now. Thanks EXO F0RCE.Though for some strange reason, the 'Power Miners' sets look like there techinc pieces in all the vehicles. And i hate the 'Power Miners' logo on the box.

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 05 Sep 2008 11:27

I saw what i think is a gun! In the smallest set! It was grey.

Posted by Gus263 in Brazil, 05 Sep 2008 15:17

I saw the images too. In images of two sets I found Bionicle pieces being used. I still thinking that the pirates are better than this theme.

Posted by peppermintmecha in United Kingdom, 06 Sep 2008 10:54

http://www.brothers-brick.com/2008/09/04/first-pictures-of-power-miners-theme-news/
Here you are, I think they look a little...tacky right now, but they are only mock-ups and could improve (i hope) i really do want new rock raiders.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 06 Sep 2008 17:48

I think the only ones I'm going to give a chance are the giant drill, bulldozer, and that big four-wheeled tractor with the red blade on the large arm. What's the word for the drill again?

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 06 Sep 2008 18:01

They do look a bit tacky, peppermintmecha, but everyone said Agents was going to suck, didn't they? Although right now I have to say that the new Pirates (which IS still being released despite that rumour a few hours ago) will WIPE. THE. FLOOR. with this stuff.

Posted by hustla187 in United States, 07 Sep 2008 15:12

I just saw the images. Is this a joke? It looks really terrible. It's all green and has alot of technic pieces. The sets aren't going to do too good.

Posted by Ovid07 in United States, 07 Sep 2008 17:37

Wow... I just saw the pictures on The Brothers Brick and I definitely agree with the rest of you. There's just too much lime green and too many big modeled pieces for me to even consider getting a power miners set.

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 07 Sep 2008 18:10

See Mr.F i told you 'Power Miners' wouldnt be a good theme.P.S i WILL try to get a power miners set.

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 07 Sep 2008 19:54

I don't know, lime green is actually a plausible color for miningg equiptment, because it is often painted in bright colors, like yellow and orange, to make them very niticable and visible. One notices bright coloration such as theis in railroad maintenace of way equiptment and construction vehicles. The trans red or orange makes no sense though for the drills. Chrome would be best, or dark grey even, but not trans orange. I like the look of the sets, but when I get them I will change the drill bits.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 07 Sep 2008 20:22

Lime green is freaking UGLY. You are correct that they would use bright colours, but they would probably be warning colours like yellow and orange.

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 07 Sep 2008 20:25

I know for a fact that Lime green has been used on railroad Maintenace of way equiptmen as a warning color. I saw it once, and the sets would probably look sweet in yellow or orange. Actually, the yellow used for the beaks of the penguins in the Penguin's sub set would work quite nicely. Still, Lego hasn't done much Lime green, it could be useful.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 09 Sep 2008 18:26

Yes, that shade of yellow would work, but I still am against lime green.

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 09 Sep 2008 18:42

Lego could have done better, but they could have done worse: it could be purple or blue. Who knows, maybe they will introduce a new shade of green in the sets. Since these are almost certainly preliminary pics, they may have not yet been able to change the colors.

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 10 Sep 2008 11:44

They will most likely change the colours if they don't get a positive response from the test group.

Posted by legocolecter abu- h919 in United States, 11 Sep 2008 19:10

I will too but I only want one with cool pieces and minifigs. Like girls. Oh wow nathaniel, you actually confessed that's a first

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 12 Sep 2008 11:23

I here where you're coming from. Pieces, or I walk.
