    ©2008 LEGO Group

Once again, it is approaching a new year. For LEGO collectors, this usually means one thing: new sets! However, a word of caution, before you start stocking up on Pirates, Power Miners, and City Farm sets, make sure you have everything from this year that you want, as no one outside the LEGO Group knows exactly what will be discontinued. Based on previous years, however, it is almost a guarantee that certain sets WILL be discontinued. For instance: Star Wars Battle Packs, Racers Tiny Turbos, and BIONICLE Matoran are often hard to find around the holidays, and by the time the new year shows up, the next years line-up is there and the last years is gone. Don't forget Mars Mission is being replaced by a new Space line next year, too. Also, anything from 2007 should be snapped up fast, and it goes without saying that any Store Exclusives that are still around won't be for much longer, so grab them while you can!

Wow, there not going to make any more starwars battle packs? This year , i'm going starwars/city.

Posted by beryui, 06 Dec 2008 17:25

no way 2009 sets are the best. how about them pirates sets eh

Posted by hawk in France, 06 Dec 2008 17:35

I have see the lego star wars 2009 sets and they are so cool !!!

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 06 Dec 2008 18:13

You forgot the most important part...

2008 sets on sale. :D

And the store exclusives should be bought up right away as the Indiana Jones 4 plane was in stores for maybe a month.

That said I didn't buy any IJ sets yet, I need to get on that. The IJ4 $10 set is already gone from LEGO S@H USA.

Posted by beryui, 06 Dec 2008 18:30

i better get town plan soon.

Posted by THX 1138 in United States, 06 Dec 2008 19:13

Captin Rex, I think they meant the current battle packs could be discontinued. There should be a clone battle pack and an assassin droid battle pack for '09.
I can't wait for '09 SW and most of all Indy.

Posted by water jedi 17 in United States, 06 Dec 2008 19:31

It seems shima55 was correct, Republic fighter tank, sith infiltrator, general greivous starfighter and jugle duel are sold out!

Posted by water jedi 17 in United States, 06 Dec 2008 19:42

pardon me but those are for the us(my previous comment)volcano base is also sold out in the us. Most of these sets are exclusives, so brickset members better keep an eye out for exclusive sets!

Posted by hustla187 in United States, 06 Dec 2008 19:50

At least I got the Republic Tank which is out of stock.

Posted by M4444M44 in United States, 06 Dec 2008 19:51

In City, the Fire hovercraft is discontinued, as are both harbor sets, the gas station, all the remaining construction sets, and the airport. Also, the three oversized sets - green truck, Coast Guard truck/boat, and police seaplane - are discontinued.

The fire and police vehicles introduced in 2005 - 7235, 7236, 7239, 7241, and 7245 - are still in the 2009 catalouge. That makes five years!

Posted by hustla187 in United States, 06 Dec 2008 20:17

Wow, those town sets are still around? Must be popular.

Posted by Captin Rex in United States, 06 Dec 2008 20:51

Yeah its a good thing that I got the republic fighter tank to.

Posted by beryui, 06 Dec 2008 21:51

i wonder how much the new indiana jones sets will be

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 06 Dec 2008 22:58

Space Police 3!

Posted by Topsy Cret in Sweden, 07 Dec 2008 02:52

I think I've got everything I need. Taj Mahal, check. Agents Truck, check. Indiana Jones, check. Pick-A-Brick, triple check. New line of Space sets next year, eh? Always been one for space. Can't wait.

Posted by jon11380 in United Kingdom, 07 Dec 2008 03:38

This time of year I find the worst waiting for the new lines ups to start appearing. I am in the UK we have nothing from 2009 yet.

Posted by GHILLIE_GUY23 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 08:49

Aw man i wanted the republic fighter tank i should have got it! I cant wait till 09 sets come out!

Posted by catman625 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 09:01

It's amazing that Mars mission is going down the drain

Posted by catman625 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 09:02

But I can't wait for the new star wars sets

Posted by beryui, 07 Dec 2008 10:04

mars mission was awesome. it stinks that its leaving.

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 07 Dec 2008 10:49

Ill miss the old star wars sets but the new ones look cool too.

Posted by Smallsam99 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 10:56

I'm not that sad that these sets are being discontinued for the fact that this year wasn't that great in my opinion except for a few sets. However the new sets excite me. A new space theme( hope it's better than mars mission), City farm and construction themes, new star wars sets, Indy sets( especially the new temple of doom sets!), Lego pirates, and also what should be the end to the horrible fantasy castle theme!

Posted by Gus263 in Brazil, 07 Dec 2008 11:09

I agree with Smallsam99, this new year promises (as the Mars Mission theme has finished, I hope that the new space sets will be better, or at least will be more "classic-like"). The Pirates theme is nice, and the sets looks very cool, though are very expensive.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 07 Dec 2008 11:36

Space Police 3? Well, um, it probably will go well because old classic space fans will buy them. I'll compare to the old Space Police when it comes out.

Are they running out of Space Lego Ideas? I hope not.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 07 Dec 2008 11:39

They should make more Force Unleashed sets. How about Battle Packs like Miltia Troopers (rebels)?

Posted by beryui, 07 Dec 2008 12:42

whats so specal about lego star wars anyway. i like the movies but the sets come on.

Posted by Captin Rex in United States, 07 Dec 2008 13:37

beryui , lego starwars is awesome! You should get some of the sets like the republic fighter tank , lego starwars is great, your missing out.

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 07 Dec 2008 14:20

Not everyone has to like Star Wars LEGO. I can't wait for the day when Star Wars LEGO ends.

Posted by jango48119 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 14:50

Good thing I got the republic fighter tank before it's sold out.

By the way The_Best_Fighter, how can you oppose the lego star wars theme? It has
sparked different building techniques, one of the themes based in many great MOC's,
and is one of the top sellers for the Lego Company itself.

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 07 Dec 2008 16:11

Sparked different building techs? OK...

Bionicle is a top seller for LEGO too, just means I have different (aka better) taste than others. Plus I'm against all license sets.

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 17:19

beryui & The_Best_Fighter, Lego Star Wars has been in existence since 1998 (or was it 99?) and is onbe of the most popular lego themes probably ever produced. I think this is just because so many fans of lego are also star wars nuts, just look at the usernames of half of the people here! I don't see why it is such a big deal that lego star wars is so popular. All of the lego themes are cool, well most of them anyway, and deserve attention on this site, be them Star Wars, Town, Bionicle, Indy or any other theme. There is no need to dis Lego Star Wars or any other good theme. What is wrong with license sets anyway?

I apologize in advance for going a bit off topic here! Sorry!

Posted by beryui, 07 Dec 2008 17:23

i guess i will try a lego star wars set. thanks captin rex and brickmeister1138.

Posted by goldeagle18 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 17:26

I get the appeal of Star Wars: Clone Wars, but I'd like to see them bring back more of the Classic sets!!! So far the Pirate sets I have seen are nice, like to see more ships. Was always my favorite back in the day.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 07 Dec 2008 18:07

The_Best_Fighter:

They are running out of ideas. The Star Wars Saga (excluding Clone Wars) is done and were is the new material? More redo's are coming in '09. Don't get me wrong, I do like Lego Star Wars.

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 07 Dec 2008 18:13

I agree with jonbuddy and i have been saying that lego star wars should do the yuzzahn vong war. But i think there are many good themes though star wars is my favorite.

Posted by Indy64 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 18:56

Awesome 09 sets I want to go Indy Star wars

Posted by jango48119 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 19:29

Although it would be cool to have the Yuzzahn Vong War, No one would know about the yuzzahn vong war as it wasn't based on the movies and/or the television series
(stuff that appeals to the general public easily)

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 19:58

Hasbro is starting to get into the star wars EU more, especially with the comics. Lego may try and do the same thing to,more videogame based sets would be nice, or having a set for every episode of CW! (A long shot, but it would be cool!)

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 07 Dec 2008 20:05

I used to like it fine, the theme would have been great if it was only for 5-8 years to span the new movies. However LEGO is long out of ideas, and no longer make the great little $10 sets they used to make in 1999.

And for such fans, you don't know when it started?

And once again... I don't have to like everything you like, I know that is shocking for kids as young as you to understand.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 07 Dec 2008 20:13

jonbuddy, the star wars saga isn't over until I say it is. Sorry, just wanted to say that heh heh but it really isn't over. They haven't made alot of sets from the Star Wars saga so we will be seeing new ones but also old. When LEGO saw some new models from their Star Wars video game, they decided to bring them out because they're better than the old ones. I can comment on that too because I have alot of the old ones and the new ones are alot nicer, for example old x-wing vs. new x-wing, new x-wing smokes! And they have sets in the game that weren't even brought out like the red cruiser. Yes the saga is indeed not finished yet. But Unleashed would be awesome. Anyways way off topic. LEGO has some great themes coming out and I'm excited especially for pirates and indiana jones

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 20:16

I didn't say you have to like it, just don't dis it. Everybody is alowed an opinion.

P.S. I also miss those $10 sets. I guess the battle packs fill that void now, but they are just glorified figure sets.

P.P.S HOW ARE LEGO MINIFIGS CONSIDERED ACTION FIGURES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD?!?!?! ( I think we know about that lawsuit from previous articles) I really miss those SW minifig 3-Packs with the (then) exclusive figures in them. They could do clone wars episode packs with those.

Again, slightly off Topic apology.

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 07 Dec 2008 20:22

Double Post Apology, ngclarkiv posted at the same time as my earlier coment
Ngclarkiv, the Red cruiser (Republic Cruiser) was out, it was a TRU/online/Lego Store exclusive last christmas.
More Unleashed would be awesome though, they could do a sweet at-kt with Ozzik Sturn and kashyyuk (I know I mispelled that) Starkiller, or a TIE Constuction facility with Rahm Kota, Starkiller, Militia Troopers andthe new stormie variations.

Posted by Jon_Brick in Canada, 07 Dec 2008 21:59

That would be so awesome if they went into the EU after the second trilogly I'm saving up a ton of money for the new star wars sets

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 07 Dec 2008 22:07

ya i personnally think the clone wars sets are medium. but the classic needs to be added too. as well as EU and i loved the $10 sets

Posted by Jon_Brick in Canada, 07 Dec 2008 22:11

by the way The_Best_Fighter your kind of stupid if you wait for a different themes contract to expire so that your favourite theme can have a higher availablity . It's not that I don't like bionicle (because I do) it's that I can't stand people who are so lame they try to bring others down to there level.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 07 Dec 2008 23:40

wow, no need to dis people everyone. Although some have had some opinions that don't make sense it's okay. And Brickmeister1138 those are some good ideas for Unleashed. I would love to see a Rahm Kota minifig and a jedi Starkiller or sith assassin Starkiller would be cool too. But I was just using the Red cruiser as an example that LEGO still have ideas for the Star Wars saga than just making the Clone Wars and that we will for sure see some new sets and new ideas to the saga in the future.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 07 Dec 2008 23:41

And I know Red cruiser came out in 2007 just still using it as an example.

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 07 Dec 2008 23:54

i would like to see more versions of the wings. awing bwing kwing xwing ywing

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 08 Dec 2008 00:31

DON'T FORGET THE E-WING MAN!!!
I would love to see more Ep ! Legos too.

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 08 Dec 2008 06:08

I have been an AFOL since 2006 and this time of year has meant that the next year wave of sets hit store shelves (usually Toys R Us first) and.....Target would begin discounting the current year's Spring crop of sets. I have bought Tiny Turbos for as low as 99 cents and sets for %75-%90 off! I haven't seen this at Target this year which stings. I was hoping to pick up the Speed Racer sets at a major discount this year figuring that the movie did poorly at the box office so I thought the LEGO Speed Racer sets would do poorly as well. Oh well. LEGO sets are flying off the shelves right now. I have been to several Targets, TRU and Wal-Marts and the sections have sections of empty shelves throughout! LEGO is a strong seller!

As for the 09's, I have bought the Green Creator car, all 4 Tiny Turbos and the Thunder Raceway 2 pack set.

The-Best-Fighter
The roadplates with the 2 pack Tiny Turbos have a cheap feel to them. They are nothing like baseplates at all as they are flimsy/rubbery. They don't have studs on them, they have technic-like pins sticking up that you put technic parts on them to build with.

No new Batman sets in 2009???

I wish there would be a bit more certainty about the Batman sets! The 2008 sets are sold out everywhere and I still need two sets from 2008!

I just hope the success of the Batman game and movie will make Lego think twice before discontinuing the Batman theme! I searched the internet for news, but found only rumours at eBay about the discontinuation of the theme. If anyone knows what's going on, here's the place to inform us Dark Knight fans! :-)

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 08 Dec 2008 09:57

I don't like licensed themes. Yeah, they're good for great minifigs and the construction isn't always that bad, but Star Wars has just been horribly worn out in my opinion. I miss the days when LEGO came up with their own ideas. Now, if they're not buying licenses, they're copying old themes. The only piece of integrity LEGO still maintains is the fact that the majority of their sets aren't juniorized and the construction quality has gone up.

But honestly people, it's just Star Wars, no need to get feisty. I maintain that StarWars is completely overdone at this point, but I'm not going tell anyone they need to try the old Space sets just because they're better in my opinion.

For those of you still missing sets, there's always BrickLink. ;)

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 08 Dec 2008 10:32

dragon_teenager they may be just Star Wars sets to you but it's something that some of us collect and enjoy. And LEGO has been coming up with a ton of their different ideas including agents, knights kingdom, space, aqua raiders, new city sets and more. They may be older and already used themes but the sets are different. LEGO has also sold more Star Wars sets than anything. I highly doubt that they would even think about discontinuing it so no worries for us I guess. But legowasta I would love more Batman sets because I love LICENSED sets and hope more come out. I would love to see a heath ledger joker but doubt its going to happen ;)

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 08 Dec 2008 10:51

Agents is derived from Alpha Team, Space is derived from various classics, Aqua Raiders is derived from Aquazone, and city sets are the same as they've always been. Yes, they're new sets, but they're old ideas. Where's the originality?

LEGO is a company known for imagination and creativity, but all they're doing is making money off of other people's ideas. I want new, COMPLETELY unprecedented sets! You can't disagree that LEGO has been reusing ideas for some time now.

Posted by Trandoshan in Canada, 08 Dec 2008 11:08

yes, because lego has done fantasy and farm sets before.

Posted by Trandoshan in Canada, 08 Dec 2008 11:11

and of course a mecha theme was un-original as well

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 08 Dec 2008 11:22

Granted the farm sets are now, but Castle sets aren't new by any means (though the troll sub-theme was interesting).

Exo-Force sucked, but I guess it's hard to deny that LEGO hasn't smash a bad TV show into LEGO form before. :P There are a few exceptions, but generally LEGO isn't as imaginative as they were. Nobody can refute that- the examples are everywhere. The licensed themes are a good example. I know a lot of people like the licensed themes but I just can't get behind them- LEGO need to try out something new.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 08 Dec 2008 11:40

Sorry for the abundant typos.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 08 Dec 2008 12:39

Some interesting things I ran across:

Pirate Ship: $99 on Lego.com and was originally $99 at TRU. Now, TRU is selling it for $84.99, though it doesn't indicate that it's "on sale."

Construction Site: $99 on Lego.com and was originally $99 at TRU. Now, TRU is selling it for $89.99, though it doesn't indicate that it's "on sale."

Cafe Corner: $20 off (14%) on Target.com

Several other sets (including all City) also on sale at Target.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 08 Dec 2008 13:10

Does anyone know what sets are likely to disappear first? Cafe Corner? Town Plan? Motorized At-At? I'm still kicking myself for missing out on the Model Home, Fort Legoredo, and several Legends sets.

Of course, I'm also kicking myself for following the "Limited" or "Special" edition tags. I prioritized the Dwarves Mine and Hoth sets way back when only to see them "re-released" months later. Lego is making it very hard for me to plan my budget. :o)

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 08 Dec 2008 13:40

Old ideas dragon_teenager, new sets. Old ideas, new sets. If they still sell, they still sell. If you don't like them don't buy them. If you don't like LEGO and they're originality then get a new hobby.

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 08 Dec 2008 15:03

Motorized At-At will be gone first I think, just a guest. i don't see Cafe Corner leaving anytime soon.

And TRU is making price mistakes on the new sets, I can almost promise that within 6months they will be the normal $5-$20 more than normal price.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 08 Dec 2008 15:18

ngclark,

I like Lego and I dislike their LACK OF originality.

Posted by halfpenguinhalflego in United Kingdom, 08 Dec 2008 15:28

There is a lot of Toys'r'us shops still with some pretty old sets, im gonna go there soon again with £30 so i better stock up on old sets.

Posted by HobbesFan08 in United States, 08 Dec 2008 16:12

Trains anyone???

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 08 Dec 2008 17:31

yellowcastle,
2 points
1-Thanks for the sales alerts at Target.com
2-Look for the sets that were released in the Spring of '08 and Winter of '07 to disappear first. Town Plan is a tremendous undertaking by the LEGO company and I don't think that will disappear until you start to see it go on sale. The Cafe Corner and Green Grocer sets I believe will be around until the 3rd building comes out from this theme. The sets' designer stated in a Brickjournal interview that he planned for 3 buildings to make up the modular town theme. As for the At-At, I am not sure when it was released but I think it was Winter '07.

Whenever I go to Target on my Clearance LEGO hunting trips, I check the bottom of the boxes for the copyrights. If I see an '07 I would walk it overt to the scanner and keep my fingers crossed. This year has been a major disappointment in this department however.

Posted by nath8888 in United States, 08 Dec 2008 17:33

lego has been reusing ideas for some time now nothing new, but they keep selling! Thats why they keep reusing them. I, personally, would like something new, even a new subtheme, like maybe more buildings for lego city, not rescue (I mean really, who needs thirty fire, police, coastgaurd, and emergancy?) and some more realistic vehicles. (I would also love to see some lego romans, greeks, as these would be a little more original, plus the good buildings and sweet monsters! :D)
But as long as a theme still sells, then you should keep selling it from a business perspective! And if lego doesn't do our ideas, then use the admittedly overpriced lego factory to build and buy your models, and buy more pieces from ebay, etc, to finish them.
Nath8888

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 08 Dec 2008 17:57

I want LEGO to try out new Space themes again. Reusing Space Police will be fine for awhile, but eventually I'd like to see something interesting a la Ice Planet 2002- maybe a faction of Space stationed on the sun?

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 08 Dec 2008 18:21

As for reissues and Licensed themes, next year's wave of Sponge Bob sets are repeats and the sets are only 2 years old!

nath8888
You seem like a voice of reason here. I agree and would love to see more buildings for LEGO City such as places to eat, shop and live. I love the Modular sets like Green Grocer and Cafe Corner but they are expensive! I would love to see 15-30 dollar sets that can give my minifig town population something to do besides drive cars, get arrested, fly a plane, put out a fire or live in a white house with a red roof!

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 08 Dec 2008 18:36

I think the city sets need more regular houses. The theme makes it like a place where everyone is doing all the "exciting" jobs and no one does normal jobs.

Posted by Smallsam99 in United States, 08 Dec 2008 18:48

In 2009, I am very excited but I have one fear about space police 3. After looking at the titles of the sets I think they might leave out the blacktron and thrown in space criminals that are cheesy like the power miners rock monsters and instead of being related to the classic throw away their basic principles for this fantasy junk. First castle, then rock raiders, and is space soon to be next? This is just my personal opinion in my worst case senario. I hope it turns out different than what I just described but you never know until the pics. come out. I am still anticipating their release but if they are a bunch of junk like power raiders than I won't even deal with getting any sets. Please say what you think.

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 08 Dec 2008 18:59

dragon team I was thinknig about a sun base Space theme earlier today. They could bring back Ice Planet and have the bad guys be from the sun and have some fire symbol. :)

And SpongeBob I think is repeats because it's the 10th birthday of SB in May, so hopefully we see new sets for that, and the reissue of the old sets is to celebrate that.

Posted by copperwonder96 in United States, 08 Dec 2008 22:08

Lego should have kept up with the Mission themes, Added a Jupiter Mission or Neptune Mission (Red suits for Jupiter, Blue Suits for Neptune, White Suits for Moon or deep space etc). Also as sets get discontinued you can very easily decide which sets should be picked up first by checking this site (Most Wanted and Most Anticipated. It has worked like a charm for me. For instance, the most Anticipated in the bottom of the wanted list will go on sale at Target or be in Stock at TRU forever until they are discounted like the Aqua Raiders and Exo Force. Most Anticipated should be picked up as soon as possible.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 08 Dec 2008 22:16

I think have more Space themes stationed on specific locales could be awesome, but I won't lie that the new Space Police lines look very promising. It sounds kind of like Agents and Space thrown in a blender, and that sounds like a winning recipe to me. I know some people don't think so but I'm liking the idea.

Also, Smallsam99, Power Miners are rubbish but I don't think it has to do with the Rock Monsters. Also, Castle was very good this year, in my opinion. I like the fantasy era.

But look closely--you then get an additional 10% off during the checkout phase (noted on the listing for the item). You only see this additional discount on the page they show just before submitting the order (the same page that confirms free shipping).

Okay guys, a new theme they should bring back: Ninjas! C'mon Ninjas were awesome and I completely forgot about them until seeing one of my old sets today. And they should make the Samurai cooler because they don't look so great. Maybe a face mask somehow like The Last Samurai samurais.

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 09 Dec 2008 11:28

Does no have holes...

OK...

It's very clear to me you have never actually owned a LEGO Train before. The track DOES have holes on the side of the track. I have seen it, I have seen it because I have my Holiday Train out. Plus if you actually looked at your link and read the title... "Ideas for Power Functions System trains - hopper design is modified from Benn Coifman". It's ideas, they also say the ideas are based off someone else, LEGO would never do that because then they would be sued. Plus why would LEGO stick up for pickers of just a hopper on Brickshelf? Also why would battery controlled trains be using 9V track if it was an official picture?

Posted by johnnyroger in United Kingdom, 09 Dec 2008 15:14

im an avid star wars fan,
but the time is coming when we all have to agree the theme is running dry and re-released sets do become boring and offen change colour alot for instence
the x-wing grey then white
snowspeeder grey then white

and what else happend to the cute little sets of yesteryear such as
droid fighter
droid escape

I agree with ngclarkiv, a new ninja theme should be released and left alone with basic ideas of ninjas vs. samuari.

i'm a avid star wars fan,
but the time is not coming my friend. Star Wars is by far the best product and has been the theme that has done the best. They are by far making the sets alot better also. Remember the old Naboo Fighter? Way too boxy and looked nothing like the movie. Although the new one also has it's problems, it's sleek and is definitely better. If your asking me, LEGO is finally getting them right.

I guess you could say that another Falcon coming out in 2009 is a joke but they are not done yet. There are several other sets that they could be making that would be new. They just haven't done it yet. I am indeed growing tired of The Clone Wars sets though and would indeed like to see some Unleashed ones in the future.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 09 Dec 2008 18:13

FYI, several Star Wars sets are 25% off on Amazon.com.

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 09 Dec 2008 18:15

I am also a avid star wars fan,

And i think the really need to release some more classic sets. They should do new jabbas palace sets as well as ships. The endor playset is a good start though. I also think we should get more sets from 1,2,3. Though my wish is yuzzahn vong. Overall i think lego will keep star wars but i hope the clone wars series of sets will be gone soon. AS for unleshed they are ok but not my favorite.

Posted by nath8888 in United States, 09 Dec 2008 18:26

The amount of people on here really shows that lego couldn't discontinue star wars, as quite a few of the fans on here are in favor of starwars. if you don't like it don't buy it. (I do agree, that it really could take a few improvements and that they should stick to the classics.) I really want to see a cute little dentists office with all the cool tools and maybe a chocolate shop.

The_Best_Fighter, I also like the idea of bringing back Ice Planet. I love that theme, but sadly I couldn't get any sets. It has awesome minifigs, awesome colors, and awesome vehicles. I especially liked the Blizzard Baron and the Ice Saturn V. Lego should also make a new UFO line, like the one from the late 90's. Also, a line like Spyrius would be nice.It had awesome colors. I would also like it if they made an Explorien theme.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 09 Dec 2008 18:47

Completely agreeing with THX here.

Also, I know LEGO will never discontinue Star Wars until people stop buying them (which is unlikely to ever happen), but that doesn't change my disappointment in LEGO's creativity.

Yes, I think a reimagined UFO line could be fantastic, but frankly I'd rather if they left Ice Planet alone. That theme was perfect the way it was.

If everyone on this site stopped buying LEGo Star Wars Lego wouldn't even notice? Are you guys really naive enough to think that you matter to LEGO?

"20 people on Brickset LOVE LStar Wars! We must keep making Star Wars!" - LEGO Co.

The day will come when Star Wars will become too expensive to buy the rights too, and that will be that. LEGO has already increased the Star Wars prices greatly to cover the new licensing fee.

All that said, they need new Ewok sets.

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 09 Dec 2008 19:07

I liked those old exploration sets. dont remember wat there called but it was some guy i think his name was jack and he was often in asia. I like the theme they should have some sort of expleration theme.

Posted by nath8888 in United States, 09 Dec 2008 19:12

I'm not saying that this site really matters to lego, but it IS a sampler for taste. The rights are another concern.

The last Comic Convention in Chicago in 2008, I stood up and asked a couple of questions during the panel of clone wars .I asked " How long will Lego keep on making sets for the Star Wars series?, Knowing there are over 100 books out their." They said that they have a very good relationship with Lego. they plan to continue to make more movies like the clone wars.. and will continue their deal with Lego for all the carton type movies they will make in the future.. so I highly doubt that they will ever stop making this line. just different sets for the different movies out there..

Posted by hustla187 in United States, 09 Dec 2008 22:30

I agree with you. If Lego can think of more sets, this theme could last for a very long time.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 09 Dec 2008 22:31

Yep. Starwars will be with us until Lucas croaks, and probably long after then too.

Still, now that Star Wars is becoming it's own theme rather than the replacement for LEGO Space, there's still room for a lot of new ideas to satisfy purists like myself.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 09 Dec 2008 22:58

It was Johnny Thunder littlelegoluke. I do agree with you all on the originality and I still say some historic or war themes would be cool or ninjas. Hopefully will see some fresh ideas from LEGO in 2009

Posted by legofan3 in United States, 09 Dec 2008 23:33

I think it is rather funny the way that "veteran" lego fans pick apart at he fantasy castle sets and ridicule them. It is also funny thta people think that they are being dicontinued when they sell just as much as Indy or Star Wars, and cost less because there is no licensing fee. There are at least 4 decent sized castle sets coming out next year already. I'll agree that some of the items were way overboar, like the megablock-esque dragons, the rumored elves(no way)and i will admit that the skeletons were kind of useless in terms of mobility, but other than that everything else was pretty solid, or had even been introduced already. to SmallSam99: give me a break. you say that you are a fan of the old lego sets and you want them to bring them back, while making fun of the fantasy castle sets. there have been magicians, sorcerors, dragons, and even skeletons since the days of dragon knights and fright knights, series that are considered "old castle", so you can't say that they are fantasy. and as for remaking the castle sets like the old ones? news flash: this has already happened about 10 times. Almost all of the "old" castles and forts are duplicates. in fact, pretty every set is a copy or has been copied, except for the forestmen, dark forest, and fright knight sets, the ones thta people like you were dismissing as "fantasy" stuff 10-15 years ago. The dwarves mine is the highest rated set on brickset, and also on lego.com. i'll agree with you that some things, like dragons and elves, just aren't acceptable, but if you keep on smashing the new, innovative(and succesful) ideas, we all will be stuck with endless repeats of the same old sets...

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 10 Dec 2008 00:26

LEGO license with Star Wars, I don't know when the new date for the rights end, but once they do LEGO needs to spend more to expand the date. Some time done the line the time will come when LEGO can't afford to waste the money and that will be the end.

I'm just glad they realize they can have a Space theme and a Star Wars theme. Sadly John Thunder is dead for good because of IJ. Yet another reason I hate licenses.

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 10 Dec 2008 06:00

With regards to the original topic ('08 sets disappearing because '09 sets are arriving) I have an idea as to which Creator sets will still be available in '09. I just built the Green Creator car from '09 (set #6743) and the back of the 1st instruction booklet has Creator sets pictured.
Some of these sets are from '08:
4996 Yellow Beach House
4995 Blue Cargo Copter
4994 Fierce Creatures
4837 Green Mini Train
4838 White/Blue Mini Vehicles

I would think that LEGO would still produce these sets if they are advertising them in '09 Instruction booklets.

To answer a question and get it over with, Lego stars Wars will end in 2011. That is when the license expires and no more star wars, and I also think Indy too. That's why many new sets are coming out and lego keeps making more remakes to get them right. Also legofan3, the fantasy elements I am talking about are the fact that undead skeletons, dwarves, and trolls are being associated with castle. I can understand a wizard and yes dragon knights and fright knights were fanatasy but they didn't go overboard like this new theme. Lego can release their own trolls and dwarve infected theme but don't pass it off as being a castle theme. Also the mine really isn't the best lego ever, just ask other people.

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 10 Dec 2008 11:59

Good to now the Yellow House should still be around, I never got around to buying it.

I believe that the Star Wars License has been renewed at least twice with Lucas. No reason to think it ouwldn't be re-negotiated again.

Exo-Force was a great idea..(Look at all the user models of robot type Mechs on Brickshelf). Didn't sell as many sets as they hoped and now they are all gone.. another one bites the dust..

Batman sets are almost all sold out.. another great idea.. I bought at least 1 of every set. Wish I had one of every spiderman set. My collection will be mega Bucks in a couple of years. Thank you Lego and Batman fans..

4WD with Horse Trailer Now avalaible from the city/ farm sets. I can't wait until you Lego starts to come out with Pink Pigs, White Sheep, and more..
how do i know about these animals??

I think the new fantasy sets are great,, LOTR was a great and hugh profit Movie.. Glad lego has caught on.. Can not wait till the rumored Elves sets appear.. I Saw A MAP on a instruction book in one of the Castle themed sets that showed different sets and on one of the edges it showed an elf in drawing, not a full picture. has anyone else seen this too? or should I find it, scan it and post it??
The Elves are a good replacement for the Forest men theme..I have spent a small fortune on these new Castle sets.. and plan to spend more.. Having bought 10 of the new dragons from Bricklink for a fair price of about $10 a piece. I can wait till the discontinue them.. They are going to be worth at least 3 times that price. I can see people buying them on ebay for $40 to $50 a piece for them..

Speed racer.. great one year theme.. for the movie release.. 1 set left on lego to buy.. almost all gone.. those will be worth a lot in a couple of years..

I was very critical of the pirates when the first pictures came out. Having bought two sets now.. They are great.. The new Real firing cannons are better than the old. Still trying to get used to the new figures and colors. will probally buy at least 2 of each set this year..plus at least 10 of the $3.49 sets. Don't buy from Toy R us (TRU) they are over priced. was just there. they wanted $5.99 for the $3.49 set. Rip-OFF.

New Lego Book... Will buy on friday. Lego on-line is the only place I can find who is selling it..
http://shop.lego.com/ByCategory/Product.aspx?p=810003&cn=59&d=275
LEGO® Collector’s Guide
Item #: 810003

Sponge bob theme.. Keep them coming. There a lot of kids between the ages of 5 and 12 who love these sets.. Kinda like the Sesame Street sets Fisher price came out about 20 years ago.. with Big Bird, Cookie monster, BERT, ERNIE, MR. HOOPER, etc. Buy them now in pairs of two, three or more.. these will be worth a lot further down the road..

Agents theme.. Great idea for mixing OO7 with Austin Powers.. Like the little laser on top of the sharks head like how Dr. Evil wanted..

Indiana Jones sets are great subsitute for any type of military theme. Lego did the whole army set type of mega blocks thing with a real classy theme which works perfect for it.. so far we have the Evil Russian Soliders.. How about the Nazi's from the last movie and the tank????

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 10 Dec 2008 16:26

Star Wars license was for 10 years, and then another X years which I guess is only three years. If you got from 10 years to three eyars that's not a good thing. LEGO will tell anyone any lie, they are a company, not your friend.

And I can't believe I have to explain this again...

Just because there are pictures doesn't mean they are LEGOs! There is a LEGO Terrorist from Brickarms.com, doesn't mean LEGO made it. Those animals are made from a third party. The cows and sheep, and pigs came out last year on the site. Oddly enough LEGO did then decide to make a cow, but they don't look alike. You can buy a cow or whatever from brickforge.com.

Correct again Fighter!

This site is just 1 of several great sites that I visit and I am sure that most bricksetters visit, including brothers-brick.com, brickshelf.com, peeron.com, eurobricks.com, mocpages.com, brickfactory.com, etc. These are great sites to visit to educate yourself about your hobby.

Do you guys think the Eiffel tower of UCS millennium falcon will be discontinued?

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 11 Dec 2008 19:19

I don't know when the Eiffel Tower will be discontinued but it is on sale now at Amazon.com for $129.99 instead of $199.99 for a savings of $70.00.

Im one of the LEGO starwars haters. 2004- is when LEGO starwars died.
Anyways, at my target, they don't have much mars mission or indy. O.o

Posted by koolios in Australia, 14 Dec 2008 04:02

I hope that the mars mission stuff in AUS isnt getting discontinued otherwise ill only have 7 out of the I think 20. Atleast with space I can like create the launches to mars, then use my mars base to land.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2008 06:57

Massive clean-up time ... remember, this thread is about what might be discontinued in the near future.

If you've got info on availability of *new* sets, there are already threads for that info; please post it those; the contribution is very much apprecuiated.

If you want to have an argument over when the Star Wars license ends, or when LEGO will finally get around to releasing the Elves sub-theme, or whatever, there are much better places than Brickset to do that.

In the meantime, any thoughts you have about what might or might not be discontinued, please post away !

Posted by littlelegoluke in United States, 14 Dec 2008 10:54

I think the Eiffel tower and UCS millennium falcon will be retierd as they are both on massive sales right now.

I wonder if any body noticed, but many themes have been resurrected throughout the years included '09.
Rock Raiders-Power Miners
Aquazone-Agua-Raiders
Life on Mars-Mars Mission
Alpha Team-Agents
What I'm saying is that many themes are being brought back but just in a different form.

P.S. I think Exo-force, Mars Mission, and some movie-based themes are being dropped

Posted by legoC&C in United States, 17 Dec 2008 02:51

I also noticed that countries that dont receive a lot of attention (e.g. Vietnam) have many REALLY old sets in their stores. One time, when I went to the country I'm from (Vietnam) they had on the shelves of their stores sets from 2004 and it was '06.
Bottomline, if you're on vacation, look around in certain stores in a different country. You might just find something rare. (and possibly pricey.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 18 Dec 2008 14:44

Yeah legoC&C we've been talking about the old theme new theme form but actually if anyone is interested. Just saw power miner, glatorian, lego city horse set, darth vader's tie, aat, and the new indiana jones sets at toys r us last night. I bought the aat and love it.

Posted by Smallsam99 in United States, 18 Dec 2008 18:56

Yeah, they come back but in bad remakes changing the whole theme into something else. Pirates has been the only decent remake along with city which is always getting better.

Posted by legoC&C in United States, 18 Dec 2008 22:00

I also wonder if any other themes will come back the same, like space police 1-3

Posted by swlegodom in United States, 19 Dec 2008 12:58

The 2009 Indy and Star Wars sets are on Target.com now. The Flying Wing is $50, Shanghai Chase is $30, Hyena Droid is $20, TIE Advanced x1 is $30, AAT is $50, and Attack Shuttle is $60. I assume the other 09 sets are there as well but I haven't looked as I'm not very interested.

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 19 Dec 2008 23:09

Are you sure the Shanghai Chase set is $30?Because legocolecter abu-h919 told me it was $40.Anyway,I can't wait for 09.

Posted by The_Best_Fighter, 21 Dec 2008 14:39

The Shanghai Chase will most likely be $30-$35. Sometimes sets increase after they orders start coming in, look at TRU and the Pirate sets. However anything more than $30 for it is insane.

Posted by StormSworder in United Kingdom, 30 Dec 2008 04:47

I'm looking forward to Space Police 3, but I can't help worrying the sets are going to be too juniorised like some of the recent sci-fi-themed original Lego sets in recent years have been. Lego Space should really go back to its roots.

I don't see what's wrong with re-introducing old themes. I'd like to see a Blacktron range with their original colour scheme, as I thought they could have done a lot more sets in that range like a big walking machine or a large spacecraft. I think there could be more civilian space sets as well, in the style of the old Futuron sets. A space bar, laboratory or futuristic houses and other buildings would be great.

I'm glad to see Pirates is coming back as well. With regards to new ranges, I've always thought a Roman range of sets would be good. There could be Roman houses, villas, temples and one of those outdoor theatres.
