What I assume is in preparation for their imminent release, images have been uploaded to shop.LEGO.com for all of the first-wave of 2012 sets. The products aren't all listed at LEGO.com yet so you won't be able to see them on the site itself, so I've added them to Brickset, including all the additional images showing small details and minifigs.

So, use these links and get drooling: City | Cars | Star Wars | Friends | Ninjago.

For me, the Friends sets look most intruiging. There are some great colours and pieces in them, and it is said that the girls' hairpieces are compatible with minifigs. It's a shame my daughters are now too old to buy them for. I'll just have to come up with some other excuse!

Here's a few alternate images to whet your appetite:

New astromech head Update: there's some interest in the comments about the new astromech head in the X-Wing set, so I've posted a close-up on flickr:

If all of them have been uploaded, then where are the Technic sets?

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 06:04

If you take out the figs and the overly cutesie animals, these sets are really interesting. No excuse needed Huw, just do it!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 06:07

^^ Good point. My sweep of the server didn't reveal those so it looks as if they've not been uploaded yet.

Argh! They finally got round to making an R5-D4 style astromech droid head, thus forcing us to buy re-iterations of the same sets we bought 13 years ago! Those cunning swines of LEGO ;-)

Nice set of figs in the new TIE Fighter, and at last an Endor Troop battle pack. The forestry police sets look fantastic (great vehicles, and a new wheel arch it seems). I like the look of the Ninjago snake vehicles, and do I note a touch of Stafford's work in Jay's Storm Fighter? (And is it too much to suggest a hint of my Drake fighter in the wing design?) Either way there's a lot of nice SPAAAAACCEy blue parts in there.

I still struggle to grasp the scale of these Friends sets. Being so used to seeing the likes of Polly Pocket toys, I still picture them as Playmobil-sized, despite all the evidence that they're minifig sized and all the tools, gadgets, animals and lovely coloured bricks are transferable. Even having seen and held one of the special bits in my hand, I still can't visualise them as minifig sized when I look at those pictures!

Hmm... I'll be buying those Friends sets... Don't know where I'll put the figures, shame they don't put those great parts in City sets....

Posted by Savage_Steel in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 06:57

The friends sets look great. Shame the inventor set is so disappointing, especially the microscope (why is she stood on a box?). Maybe I'm just biased though, as I think the lab I work in looks more like the one I did. http://www.flickr.com/photos/62571196@N03/6510196847/in/photostream

What the chuff is an outdoor bakery? And why is that girl hiding jewels underneath her tree house? And we thought the Ninjago sets had gone crazy... :P Great new (?) colours and hope they transfer some of the accessories into 'normal' (ie system) sets. But a 100 bill for a cupcake seems a bit steep! It's about time lego made some lower monetary denominations :P

@Joefish "Argh! They finally got round to making an R5-D4 style astromech droid head, thus forcing us to buy re-iterations of the same sets we bought 13 years ago! Those cunning swines of LEGO ;-)" New versions of old star wars sets? Surely not! ;-)

Posted by Martin in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 07:22

I wasn't convinced about the Friends theme but having now spent a few moments looking at those pictures, there's some really lovely stuff going on there. I think I'll have to get me some of those after all!

Posted by Savage_Steel in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 07:53

The animal and hair pieces have holes in them, so bows etc an be added, I think that will be popular.
I'm LOVING all the new flower pieces too.
The house is almost exactly what I was planning on building for my niece to use as a lego dolls house (but with out the pink roof!) - I think that will be hugely popular. And expandable. The holiday gift sets from this years promo look like they'd add on to the house nicely :)

I can't wait for all of these! Hopefully they come out just before christmas so I can put them on my list! ;)

Never been a LEGO starwars fan but that Y-wing looks pretty awesome, especially with the droid and pilot, really detailed print on pilots helmet. X-wing looks pretty cool too. And if I end up getting the Y-wing and maybe X-wing, then I'll HAVE to get at least ONE tie fighter haha! Oh man. slippery slope I fear.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 08:31

@JoeFish, I believe Mark has been involved with many of the 2012 Ninjago sets and you're right, there are tell-tale signs of that all over them :-)

Posted by deepdalelegend in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 08:33

New c3-po, didn't know that.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 09:31

^ I think R2-D2 is the same, it's R5-D4, the red one, that now has a different head, slightly more conical if you look closely. I've uploaded a close up to flickr and linked to it in the article.

Posted by deepdalelegend in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 09:44

It looks as though threepio is different, with coloured wires on the torso and possibly yellow coloured eyes?

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 09:47

The first four SW sets in that list (9488, 9489, 9490, 9491), absolutely shocking. if ever you needed proof positive that it's all about the minifigs...

Posted by mkoesel in United States, 14 Dec 2011 09:55

I was really hoping to see the Creator Summer House show its face as part of the initial wave. When is it expected?

Posted by lovaquero in United States, 14 Dec 2011 10:09

The TIE set (9492) astromech droid also appears to have a conical head.

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 10:32

Having initially dismissed the Friends line as girly rubbish, i'm now eating my words and planning some purchases, especially if the hairpieces fit normal minifigs. Lots of purple, turquoise and pink parts to be seen!

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 10:38

It does appear that c-3po has a new torso, and possibly printed eyes? The stormtroopers in that set also have some good 'dirt' printing on them. And yet another iteration of a speeder bike! Do you think they're trying to see how many ways they can build the same thing?

Posted by Juno in United States, 14 Dec 2011 11:09

Those first SW sets are amazing! I love the new astromech head. And I can't believe they finally gave C-3PO a new torso! Its great! If I ever got the Friends sets I would probably just keep the parts, and throw away the people (or at least put them in a box where I can't see them).

Posted by beth2112 in United States, 14 Dec 2011 11:34

A few of these city sets are already availavbe at TRU. As well as the cars oil rig.

Posted by George G. in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 12:48

What I really don't understand is, in 4441 Police Dog Van why is the burgular stealing a ruby from a gold mine? ;)

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 14 Dec 2011 12:51

@ George G I think the crook was running to hide out in gold mine with the ruby. :)

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 14 Dec 2011 12:56

How much are the SW Battlepacks?

Posted by mrwhizzard in United Kingdom, 14 Dec 2011 13:02

Apparently some 2012 sets are already available in store at John Lewis (confirmed in Glasgow). Might be worth checking out if theres one local to you.

Posted by brickmatt in United States, 14 Dec 2011 14:21

Why is police set 4205 Off-road Command Center listed as a fire set?

Posted by Mr. Mini Man in United States, 14 Dec 2011 15:10

Why do I get the feeling that LEGO is biased towards using good interior designing on "girl" sets. Why don't we see this in system sets? Why aren't system sets as well thought out and have as rare of parts as these?!

Posted by natro220 in United States, 14 Dec 2011 16:24

@Mr. Mini Man - My take is, stereotypical "girl" toys (Barbies, doll houses) focus more on the accessories. So you get the specialized bricks, interesting colors, and more realistic looking figures. "Boy" toys (transformers, hot wheels i.e.) are more about functionality and moving parts...so in "boy" Lego sets, you have walls or bridges that have action elements, racing cars, and lots of weapons (pirates, castle, Star Wars, are all about the swords/guns). Unless boys all over the world all of a sudden decide that that stuff isn't good enough...the system sets aren't going to change.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 14 Dec 2011 18:34

Does anyone know how much the X-Wing is? I got the 2006 version, but this one is just... too good to pass up.

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 14 Dec 2011 18:59

^TBOC: And another thing, does anyone know the size compared to 2006's? This one looks enormous compared to the other one...

Also, the Olivia Inventor Workshop set, or whatever its called, has some nice pieces. Now if only it wasn't a GIRL set. :P

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 14 Dec 2011 21:21

Love the Star Wars sets

Posted by trickydicky0880 in United States, 14 Dec 2011 21:29

Gosh, I hate this! Lego stop coming out with amazingly awesome sets! I'm getting poor...

Posted by trickydicky0880 in United States, 14 Dec 2011 21:33

I'm loving the new jedi interceptor. Comes with some great new minifigs and you can fit r2 in it.

Posted by bellybutton290 in United Kingdom, 15 Dec 2011 03:29

Amazing city and SW in particular my god I am in love with the x-wing, no official prices though, I hope not too expesive I still want to eat after i have bought these!

Posted by macmon in Philippines, 15 Dec 2011 03:30

The Jedi interceptor set seems nice, however it is disappointing that the minifigs does not come with Padme while she is pregnant. Now that makes it more interesting to get.

Posted by CamberbrickGreen in United Kingdom, 15 Dec 2011 06:21

Shopping in 'drag' could be an option when purchasing Friends sets. If only they came with a mincer for the figures and a recycle envelope for posting their mangled bodies back to Lego.

Posted by surfboy100 in United States, 15 Dec 2011 12:56

The city sets are up!!!!

Posted by rmarkworth in Germany, 16 Dec 2011 07:08

The new astromechs head makes me buy the X-Wing again! :)
