    9674 Naboo planet setI haven't seen much written about the Planet sets yet, which might be because they haven't been available anywhere until today and I'm among the first to get them!

    I bought them at my local Argos (see below) this morning. As you can see, the planet sticks out of the box and apart from it, the only other thing in the box is the instructions. The parts are all in the planet, which is 11 studs diameter. It splits into two identical halves to reveal the parts inside.

    The Naboo pilot minifig is the same as that in 7877. The Starfighter itself is pretty good though and very 'swooshable'.

    The only unique piece in the set is a printed 4x4 tile with studs.

    Once built, the Starfighter sits on a small display stand and a couple of pieces are provided such that the planet can be stood up, or hung from the ceiling.

    These are quite expensive at £9.99 (something like US$10 - $12 as I estimate) but bound to be collectable. I would recommend buying these as soon as they hit the shops, not because they'll sell out quickly, but because the planet is likely to become scratched and damaged once it's been languishing on the shelf for a while.

    The first three are labelled 'Series 1' and there's another three out in the summer. No doubt more will follow in subsequent years.

Yaiiiiks! No protective covering for the planet? That's counterintuitive to me. I wonder if the prints on the planet were done with the parts together...some land masses appear to be suddenly sectioned at the edges.

Ive reserved a couple of items from argos may get them today or tomorrow, can't really put up with large crowds of bloodthristy shoppers, prepared to get anything by any means necessary!

I picked up all three this morning too, from the Milton Keynes Lego store, and have just built them. They are quite nice, but, IMO, quite overpriced. As a model, I think the little pod-racer is probably my fave.

Is the Naboo Pilot not the same as the one in the current Naboo fighter?

@Huw- the planet sets would be the equivalent of almost 15 US dollars. Unfortunately, Britain's been paying more for their Lego sets for a while.

These planet sets do actually look very nice. I think I will have to get all of them but £9.99 GBP is a bit much and it should really be £7.99 GBP imo.

I expect it will probably cost $9.99 usd which is a shame the above gbp is not the actual price.

Unfortunately in many cases, The us price figure is used often in gbp prices too [$49.99=£49.99] eventhough it should really be $49.99= £39.99

cannot believe there isn't a thin plastic cover over the exposed part of the planet - unbelievable. Perhaps that will be changed in future versions or production runs.

In any case, I have zero interest in these anyway, but it's always good to have a relatively inexpensive option for gifts or small rewards, etc.

You see, Huw, this was exactly what I was worried about regarding these sets - the planet parts sticking out of the boxes and getting scratched and damaged. I think I'll be buying these sets from LEGO Shop@Home. I'd imagine they'll be less likely to be damaged there than in the shops.

I ordered yesterday and went to collect them today but unfortunately I couldn't collect them because apparently the codes had not been uploaded and therefore they could not sell them to me. Not impressed as I'm having to drive back tomorrow and try to collect them again. Won't be buying from Argos again anytime soon.

I want them, but don't want to spend £30 to get the full set.
I may have to give them a miss. My wallet is already crying, what with the other new Star Wars sets and Super Heroes.

I guess there'll be no such thing as "New Sealed"/MISB on BrickLink for these ones. ;)

Definitely want the Death Star set, and the presumably inevitable Hoth/Luke/Snowspeeder combo. Oh, and it'd be great if there were a Han Solo/Millennium Falcon set, though I can't think of what planet that'd go with.. Corellia?

I like the look of these, and a tenner for the model, minifig and planet to put 'em in doesn't seem outrageous to me. Even so, I will as usual await an opportunity to get these at a discounted price.

I was hoping the grey pieces would be metallic like the stud, but it seems it isn't..
I too believe the Podracer is the best of the three.

Picked up my three a moment ago. Of course, I checked the exposed areas for scratches before leaving the job. The sphere in fact rotates within the packaging so to check had to turn it around and around - the shop assistant thought I was nuts!!. No scratches or marks on mine. I have to say though, I haven't opened them yet but the plastic and paint job appeared extremely sturdy and hard wearing.

Just picked up my 3, have to say usual 'awesome' service from Argos. Kid behind the counter threw them on the top numerous times whilst checking the codes then ripped their tagging code that is taped to the boxes off with absolutely zero care.
As I was walking out I passed 2 guys in suits with Manager on their name plates, thought twice and thought s@d I, I will mention it or nothing will change. Told them that they were presents and the boxes could easily be damaged with the manner in which they were treated.

Their reaction was as if I was telling them how to do their job and they had no interest at all. Stated it would be impossible for the tape to rip the box as it is 'low tac' and that the item is plastic so will not scratch.
I give up, you try to help out and get some fool who clearly doesn't care one bit about how happy the customers are!!!

Will only ever shop here again if its the only place with the item in stock!

Yeah I went into argos to purchase my reserved items(got the podracer set in the end) and it turned out the dino set I reserved for on the internet were correct, but they said they cannot sell it to me even though the reservations code checks out and they had it in in stock, so I was like WHAT?

Anywho the Podracer has been and still is the best of the three:
Best minifigure(Sebulba-is and will probably worth the most in the future than the other 2)
The model is unique and intriguing and stands out
The planet specs and detail are cool

For the Death star, I will pass on that(it looks too plastic-e)
and the Naboo set I will buy on discount if availble, but not too bothered if its not in my collection.

My new catalog called them "Galaxy Sets". That makes sense, considering the fact the Death Star isn't a planet.
