For a few days last week LEGOshop.com listed a black NXT brick for sale in North America. It's since been pulled from their listings and attempts to find it on their site results in a page not found.

It's possible that it's version 2 of the NXT brick: we know there's a new NXT 2.0 set, 8547, due out this year. I guess it was listed in the shop by mistake!

Thank goodness Brickset still has this item in its database. I hope it doesn't get deleted too! Now I think I know why this item was more expensive than the white NXT brick -- it could be the n(e)xt-generation version. (Pun intended.)

A new color scheme wouldn't be bad...I like it!

I don't think this black NXT is a big step from its predecessor... just look at the time it took to go from the RCX to the NXT. Again comparing with the RCX, I wouldn't be surprised if this one just had a few different parts in the set (battery + charger, please!), coupled with a newer version of NXT-G. At most, small changes in specifications, like a slightly faster CPU or more memory.

Someone should have tried to buy me one before it was pulled. :)

Ya I saw it on Lego about two days ago when I ordered some more bionicles (which by the way is my 110th) (I bought the Toa Ignika, and Mutran and Vican) but anyway I saw the black NXT and thought It was cool... I didn't order one though ... Sorry... : )

Especially considering Wall-Mart had a sale the week before for just $150 for the entire retail set. Maybe it was an inventory reduction in anticipation for a new version?

Some things I noticed - The description of this black brick was exactly the same as the white brick - it used the same ARM7 processor but there was no mention of extra memory. Also, the number of ports is obviously the same so I suspected it was just a different color. The low amount of memory is an annoying thing on the current version, but this is possible.

A different color brick would be needed for FLL lego competitions if one version had more memory than the other, or if there were other advantages, so I think this probably makes sense. However, the lego website description did not make any mention of extra memory so it is strange.

I think that this may have been a mistake.

You see, a while ago, Lego had a picture of Agori Raanu on the Matoron icon for a brief period of time. People thought there were new things, but there wasn't. Maybe it was like that; the lego people accidentally put up the item for a time, but it may not come out for a while. Maybe there is a new version, but it won't be released until a certain time, like, when a new set comes out.
