New droid head

R5-J2 from 9492 TIE Fighter You may recall we discussed the new droid head a couple of weeks ago, which is better suited for R5 series astromech droids than the dome that's been used before.

Here's R5-J2 from the new 9492 TIE Fighter which I've just finished building. I've never been very impressed with previous TIEs, particularly those with blue bits all over them (what were the designers thinking, were they colour-blind? :-)) but this new rendition is pretty good.

I'll try and do a full review soon although I have family commitments this week so may not get a chance too until the weekend.

The heads are very nice in the X-wing set and this one, but where is it possible to obtain the Y-wing and Anakin's interceptor sets from? If anyone knows please tell me. Thanks!

@CapnRex101 I think Lego has them Jan. 1st...

^^ The brand stores stock are selling those two.

@Huw - Thanks, I will be at the store tomorrow so I can get them then.
I am so glad they added those gold details on the top of the head, I hadn't seen them in earlier photos.

According to the shop at home catalogue 2012 (which I got today) they will be available for £59.99 for the Y wing 'ouch' and £34.99 for the interceptor which both Are overpriced IMO.

On the other hand, that black r2 unit looks great. Will probably buy it reduced as it's quite steep at £49.99 for a tie fighter and four figs.

I must agree on the "colour-blind" part: When I saw Episode IV and the TIEs, I thought, "Hang on, there's no blue on them!"... :P

any idea when the 2012 star wars sets will be available for purchase in the united states? either at brick-n-mortar or online retailers?

I hope this new droid head shows up in non-printed format in the future.

@toplessjeep You could just get hired at a LEGO factory and steal a rew before they get printed... ;)

@IlovePowerMiners That's happened before, and trust me, they reaaaaally didn't like that. That's the story behind the White Huna, if you know about that.

Does anyone have US pricing on the X-Wing and Anakin's Starfighter?

Posted by Margot in United States, 29 Dec 2011 00:08

x-wing - 59.99
Anakin's Jedi Interceptor- 39.99

Posted by Margot in United States, 29 Dec 2011 00:10

Y-wing starfighter- 49.99

Posted by trickydicky0880 in United States, 29 Dec 2011 01:56

When will the tie fighter and jedi interceptor be available in local stores in the US?

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 29 Dec 2011 06:29

I really like the new heads, but not so much the inflation applied to the pricing! Seriously, I think I will be waiting to try to get these in the region of 30% off before buying, as I just think there are too many good deals on lego at the moment to be spending £49.99 on the Tie.
Happy to play the waiting game on this one.
