    9494 Anakin's Jedi InterceptorTo conclude my review of 9494 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor, today I take a look at the ship itself and the duelling platforms that are also included in the set.

    The ship is very similar in design to the two previous Jedi Starfighters (Anakin's yellow one in 7256 from 2005 and Obi-Wan's 7661 from 2007) so I'm not sure why its name has been changed to Interceptor this time.

    9494 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor As is usual though, new parts and building techniques have been used to improve it and one definite improvement is that R2-D2 fits in the wing in his entirety rather than having just his head plokned on top.

    Someone asked in the comments to part one whether the set contained many useful dark green parts. So, discounting the wedge plates, it has just 16: 8 2x4 plates and 4 each of 1x4 and 2x2 tiles.

    The duelling platforms are an interesting build. I can't remember the scene in episode 3 to know what they they are supposed to look like, but one seems to resemble some sort of robot. (I must watch the Hexalogy (right word this time!) on Blu-Ray my daughters bought me for Christmas ASAP!). They certainly add some playability to the set, though.

    To summarise then, this is a great set. The craft is very swooshable, the minifigs are excellent and the extras in the form of the platforms add an additional dimension to the playability. Of course you know there's a 'but' coming... The price, at £35, is as usual, probably higher than it should be, particularly when you consider that the price of 2005's 7256 was just £15!

I think 7256 was released in 2005 not 1995 as said in the last sentance :) But a great kit, and I may have to get it if Amazon have a sale, rather than get it full price which is quite rediculous. Would have priced it at £25 to £30 not £35.

I was not planning to get this set. But seeing how such a great review has been made and the detail of these figures, I think now I may have to get this.

I also like the fact the droid thingys improve the sets playability more. Minus pad me, this set alone can act out most of the lightsaber duel from the end of episode III.

Finally some proper minifigures to add to the 7257 Ultimate Lightsaber Duel! I might get this, as the "Lava Duel" scene is the highlight of the Prequel Trilogy. Then again it is ridiculously highly priced...
I noticed that you wondered about the inclusion of the security droid and Nute Gunray in the first part of the review, Huw, but they make sense as you can now play out Anakin's massacre of the separatist leaders.(Even better if you got that new geonosian set!)

Jedi Interceptor is the correct name, so I think that is why they changed it.

The robot is a mining robot on Mustafar that collects lava in a bucket. Anakin stands on this robot while Obi-Wan stands on the floating platform at the end of the epic fight. These two sets are actually very accurate to the scene!

@padinc You're right. The proper name is Interceptor, even if they are sometimes referred to as Starfighters. But this exact type of ship is an Interceptor.

Geat review, Huw. Are there no solar panel stickers on the underside of the wings, like there were on 7661?

As for your question pertaining to the change of name of the ship, that ship is an Eta-2 Actis Class Light Interceptor. So it's still a starfighter, isn't it?

To be absolutely exact, there were THREE previous Eta-2 Actis Class Light Interceptors !!!
The 3rd one is the Obi-Wan's DarkRED Jedi Starfighter in #7283 Ultimate Space Battle from 2005 :

And the droid that Anakin is standing on, is the MUSTAFAR PANNING DROID called also DLC-13 MINING DROID. They were designed to hover above lava rivers and use their scanners to hunt for minerals roiled to the surface by tractor beams (or harvesting the lava, as you want) :

It seems that the name of "Jedi Starfighter" is rather used for the "DELTA-6 Starfighters" although DELTA-7 (SW spacecrafts) are very similar and called already INTERCEPTORS.

The main example of how the names were already mixed-up is the set #10215 Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter" which is the DELTA-7 Aethersprite-Class Light INTERCEPTOR correctly named on the display label sheet :

To be perfectly honest, I would only get this for the two platforms. Ever since watching Episode 3 when it came out (Minus when Anakin is burnt! :P) I have built several versions of the seen when they are fighting on the platforms. It'd be nice to compare mine to theirs :) Also, if I recall Anakin didn't have a green Interceptor, he had a cool little green speeder thing that he uses to see and eventually kill Windu. I am disappointed Lego has done ANOTHER Lego Intercepter (Star fighter) I'm waiting to see some really cool playsets, like that claw thing they dual all on that drops into the lava and they swing on, or the actual facility itself, not some redone Starfighter that we already have at least three versions of (I have Anakins Yellow one and Obi Wan's Blue one, neither of which are different in any apparent way) This is certainly the best from the looks, but IMO it's not enough 'Bestness' to be worth it. Smart of Lego though to include that platforms and exclusive figs.

@LegoAthos: Actually, that'd be "sexalogy"; the rest of the word wouldn't be any different, and it certainly wouldn't incorporate "tri". It's still kinda incorrect in that the word "hexalogy" derives from Greek root words, "hexa" (6) and "logia" (the study of), whereas "sexa" is of Latin origin. Hate to nitpick, but actually I don't hate to nitpick because I find word roots kinda fascinating.

@itsaturkey: Anakin did use a deep green Eta-2 Actis for his flight to Mustafar, as his yellow one was very likely destroyed and definitely lost with the destruction of the Invisible Hand; it may not necessarily specifically be his, but hey, I'd imagine that Luke didn't really own his X-Wing in Ep IV or his snowspeeder in Ep V.

Point is, I think I still need this set. Shudder to think what the Australian pricing will be like...

@dixondog: I think you're mistaken. The platforms are from the lava scene at the end of RotS while Obi Wan and Anakin are fighting. I don't think they have the platforms in the clone wars.

Am i correct in saying that the printed cockpit piece has been slightly updated from the previous "jedi starfighter" sets? It looks like the print is a little different.

I wasn't planning on getting this set, but I am impressed with it and starting to like it a lot.

Obi-Wan's body should have more detail. In ROTS He had a brown shirt or something under the tan robes, not his bare neck, and he should have leg printing, too. They could have atleast put a few tears and burns on his robes...
