    Advanced Models/Modular Buildings, 2012
    More details...
    ©2012 LEGO Group

There have been rumours that the next modular building would be a town hall for, oh, at least a year. Now, pictures have emerged on a Romanian toy shop website. I can't actually find them there, but someone has posted them to Eurobricks so you can check them all out there.

It weighs in at 2766 pieces which is more than the other modular buildings. I have to say, I'm lovin' all that dark orange!

Update: bonaparte at Eurobricks kindly sent me the direct link to the set at the shop.

Update: The Brickset effect has struck again. The page at the Romanian shop, linked to above, has been removed, probably as a result of TLG reading this article or the Eurobricks one. I hope you saved the images!

Wow... that's a monster! Really liking that clock face and the globe.

I've always liked the modular line, though I've never actually bought any, given that my brother usually gets in first. Still, he's gone to Uni, so the stay-at-home student gets the floor space now... this will probably be my first of the lot, just hoping it doesn't set me back £150...

Posted by legocrazy1234 in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2012 16:59

Can,t wait for this looks like it will be £140+ will fit into my layout nicely.

Ohhhhhh....I quite like this beauty....

Posted by Binary Code in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:01

Very nice, but my concern that the increased piece count, dimensions, and minifig count may command a higher price...

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:03

7 minifigures? Wow!

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2012 17:04

This looks absolutely fantastic! I love the camera with the big flash the woman is holding next to the bride and groom. I agree with Legocrazy1234 and estimate this at around £140-150.

Posted by suckerpunch83 in Canada, 11 Jan 2012 17:08

Haven't bought any modular's to date, but I think this one will get me started!!!!

Posted by Farmer_John in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:10

Sweet! I may have to pony up on the secondary market and grab a GG to go with it. Gotta be $200+.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:10

Wow...massive, beautiful and 8 figs to boot. Looks great. Probably $200.00 usd?
And I agree w/Huw...the darkish orange is...tasty...;)

Posted by ericjohn in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:12

I'm counting eight figures. I wonder why that one has a magnifying glass?

I really like the dark orange, too, but this building is pretty box-y. I'm sure that I'll get it, but this has to be one of my least favorite in the modular line. Hopefully there's something that I'm missing that makes this one more special than it looks to me now.

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2012 17:28

Looks like a loverly lego model. However I reckon it will be the highest price modular yet at what I reckon will be £149.99

Posted by voypro in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:35

sorry these building, just put me to sleep. No interest from this nerd.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 11 Jan 2012 17:36

Every city needs a town hall. Oddly enough this set looks plain and gorgeous at the same time. I will have to see the price before making a decision. If it's too expensive then I might just get the pet shop instead.

Posted by Rolyat24 in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:43

I like the look of all of the modular buildings, but I'm never willing to cough up the money. This one is definitely the best though.

Posted by hlm5678 in United States, 11 Jan 2012 17:53

More figs and pieces than ever!!! :D

Posted by stagus in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2012 17:56

It's a goer for me....could be as high as £170 with the brick count though...eeek

Posted by AETerry in United States, 11 Jan 2012 18:07

And I fall further behind on the modular collection and can only hope I'll get around to starting on this collection. Looks good. I can see someone adapting it for a Back to the Future scenario.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 11 Jan 2012 18:08

On the Romanian website the set is 899.99 lei. Converted to Canadian dollars it's $267.47. I'm hoping LEGO sells this set for $229.99 CDN but it may be closer to $249.99 CDN. It could be as high as $279.99 CDN.

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 11 Jan 2012 18:08

Looks pretty good.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 11 Jan 2012 18:09

Looks very big. Prices: (estimate)

CAD:$270

USD:$265

GBP:£175

^^Most likely TLG will hike the price up to around $270.

Posted by av8r1973 in United States, 11 Jan 2012 18:09

I have been looking forward to the next modular and am happy that TLG has continued the line. Though this is similar to the Fire Brigade in looks, it seems to have a personality all its own. Looks great to me! As others mention, the typical $149 price commanded by the modulars probably won't be matched this time due to the parts. This one will certainly be added to my layout when released.

Posted by carding in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2012 18:15

Thats a nice bit of work. But what is with the wedding the last town hall had a wedding. Give us some town planners instead.

Posted by M4444M44 in United States, 11 Jan 2012 18:20

$179.99 is the expected U.S. price.

Posted by Dodge in Canada, 11 Jan 2012 18:55

This is a great-looking addition to the line! But it does look a bit large beside the Pet Shop.
I won't be surprised when this comes in at $229.99+ CAD. Has best start racking up those VIP points...

Posted by MaverickDengo in United States, 11 Jan 2012 18:56

My wallet is crying... It's going to be hard to save up for the Pet shop, CMF 7, The new star wars sets, and now this. Especially since I don't have a job. D:

Anyways, this set looks beautiful! I'm drooling all over my computer!

Posted by M-Tron Hero Kodiak in United States, 11 Jan 2012 19:34

Yes!
I was wondering when some pictures would come out! I regret not buying the first two modular buildings, thinking I didn't like them, but once I built the green grocerer I was hooked!

179? If it is that price I'm definatly getting.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 11 Jan 2012 20:29

Brilliant.

The clock-tower wins it for me, everything else is icing on the cake.

Posted by shootvolio in United States, 11 Jan 2012 21:12

It would be worth getting if they used the new "brick" bricks. I like the 1891 reference.

Posted by Farmer_John in United States, 11 Jan 2012 21:15

Estimated price in USD: $249.99

Posted by Buckbrick in Singapore, 11 Jan 2012 21:32

The modular building series are absolute must buys. For me the town hall takes the cake, including the GG and CC. I wonder how the additional height of the town hall will look next to the other buildings.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 11 Jan 2012 22:06

It definitely looks like it's gonna be one of the tallest of the modular buildings, that's for sure.

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 11 Jan 2012 22:36

I'm saying $200 for the set.

Posted by blomper in United States, 11 Jan 2012 22:36

Wow, this is a must have. Loving it.

Posted by aresze in Australia, 11 Jan 2012 22:53

AU$ 349???

or AU$ 399???

so i won't buy any lego in australia

TLG you won't earn $1.00 in australia from me

Posted by mrdoofa in United Kingdom, 11 Jan 2012 23:07

This set looks amazing, it looks like its going to dwarf all the other modular buildings, it towers over them. I'm guessing this will be at least £150-£200. Does anyone know when it's due to be released?

Posted by CommanderBrick in United States, 11 Jan 2012 23:19

I like how LEGO used the date 1891 (Ole Kirk Christiansen's year of birth). Just like with the Fire Station's 1932 year.

I am definetely liking this set. I got my first modular building last year and I love it. I just hope the price is raised too much with the high amount of pieces this set has. My wallet will be crying in pain.

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 12 Jan 2012 00:43

I'm thinking spring (March to mid-April).

Posted by serviceburo in United States, 12 Jan 2012 01:12

The average price per piece on the modular buildings (excluding Market St.) is US6.95c - multiply that by 2766 and you get $192.17. I would be willing to wager that a realistic price point on this one would be $199 in the US.

Posted by duilim in Australia, 12 Jan 2012 01:31

Another great set by TLG. I have to admit though that the fact his appears taller than all the other modulars bothers me. It means that it won't blend in as well and will in fact, stick out a fair bit. Other than that though, this is IMO a magnificent set, although we're yet to see any details of the interior.

As for the price, well in Oz we're used to the price fluctuating on these modulars. The GG was $250aud in 2008, then in 2009 FB cost $299! It came back down to $250 for GE in 2010, then last year, I had to fork out $269 for PS. I shudder to think how much this is going to be here if rumours of a USD price is around the $200 mark.

Posted by OuterRimTradingCo. in Australia, 12 Jan 2012 02:26

It's a very nice building, but a town hall doesn't sit in a street-scape, it sits proudly as a central stand-alone building. This set is a little hit-and-miss....

Posted by bodybomb3 in United Kingdom, 12 Jan 2012 02:55

Looks stunning although maybe a bit out of place being so tall but I'm sure it'll fit in well!

Posted by CamberbrickGreen in United Kingdom, 12 Jan 2012 03:24

Better than I could possibly have hoped for. Damn, got to add that to the list of 2012's Lego 'Tax.'
More historical designs for a 20thC theme layout. Thanks Lego!
MOC: Could make a mansion, museum, all sorts...can we afford 2 ??!!

Posted by renesisx in United States, 12 Jan 2012 04:08

It's due for release in March apparently.

Posted by erbse2000 in Germany, 12 Jan 2012 04:21

I totally agree with Sharpy's comment!
It's ok. When I heard LEGO will release a town hall I had in mind a set with three of the typical modular town hose base plates to make the building look wider (somehow like the wide town halls you can see in the amican movies including a nice arrangement of roman pillars). To me now it looks compressed somehow and the entry is far too small and does not really fit to the rest of the building in terms of architectural elements. It's more a "Fire Station second design recycling thing" but still acceptable.

Posted by dylanesque in Australia, 12 Jan 2012 04:52

Wow, love it! The bigger the better! Great old look, can't wait to get it.

Posted by dodys in Romania, 12 Jan 2012 05:00

I've got it ;)

Posted by grogall in Germany, 12 Jan 2012 05:14

@dodys What does that mean? you have the set or you like the set?

If you have the set better pictures would be nice!

Thanks!

Posted by dylanesque in Australia, 12 Jan 2012 05:15

It means he is raving.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 12 Jan 2012 06:08

^ It's possible dodys has it because the Romanian shop appeared to be selling yesterday, but now it seems that page has been removed from the site.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 12 Jan 2012 06:59

Whatever the American price is, tack on $50 and you'll have a reasonable estimate of the Canadian price for the modular buildings. I still don't understand the price differential since the Canadian and American currencies have been near parity for years now.

Posted by M4444M44 in United States, 12 Jan 2012 07:17

^Dollar parity is irrelevant. Canada can't match America's economies to scale (which spread fixed costs over a population more than 7x larger), lack of taxes/duties, less regulation and dirt cheap distribution cost.

Everything is cheaper in America, not just LEGO, and that won't change anytime soon. Even a German-built Mercedes is about 35% less in the U.S. than in Germany.

Posted by Legosamleren in Denmark, 12 Jan 2012 11:10

I wish TLG would make some old looking cars, to go with these fantastic buildings, the one in FB isn't enough.

Posted by shaase in Canada, 12 Jan 2012 11:11

I was expecting the Town Hall to look more like the one from Back to the Future and possibly come with a DeLorean (non flying)

Posted by jackmap in United States, 12 Jan 2012 11:33

I just found the [non-watermarked/non-confidential] images on another site but before I post a link, can a mod or admin confirm if that's ok? Thanks

P.S. I am really looking forward to this set! :D

Posted by jd_brick in Switzerland, 12 Jan 2012 12:07

That's a deception. I was really expecting something much better. They should have made it lower, and wider, based on more ancient buildings, with grey tones. Totally agree with SHAASE, I was expecting something like what we see in back to the future. That's just another three storey house.

Posted by mdrider in United States, 12 Jan 2012 12:33

So does this make the mini set obsolete? I had decided against the mini set because I knew additional buildings would be created. I think I heard 8 total, including Market Street.

Posted by Doctor Leg O'Brick in United Kingdom, 12 Jan 2012 14:02

Lego, admit it, you want to strap me down and watch my money burn. 2012, the year many a LEGO fan will be bankrupt, including me. Marvel, DC, City, Dino, some NinjaGo/Monster Hunters/Hero Factory, LOTR, Star Wars, and now a Town Hall. This may be a modular I have to buy...

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 12 Jan 2012 14:19

^but you're a doctor so you have plenty to burn right? :P

Posted by asherkobin in United States, 12 Jan 2012 14:52

How long until someone starts posting on eBay selling this for future delivery for $1000 :P

Also, for people that think it's too tall, just remove the 2nd or 3rd floor. It even seems reasonable to make it two buildings with the roof and ground floor as one and the 2nd and 3rd (with simple custom roof) another.

Posted by mmf72lego in Netherlands, 12 Jan 2012 15:02

I really Like this design. Nice features with the Belltower and clock (ok, we saw the bell on the earlier Firebrigade, but he.. so what!). As for the year inscription, but I think that ingenius designing ought a second installment. The orange color is Fine with me, being from The Netherlands :-) I think the flower beds on the 1 floor windows resamble the "Petshop" so the street will become nice and green! Cool entrance with the Roman collums. Can not wait to see the interior. For those who did not see. There are more pics to be found on the Flickr.com website. Go and have a look.

Posted by Sparky Ham in Hong Kong, 12 Jan 2012 15:21

Does the magnifying glass on the front hint to the next modular building being a Police Station of sorts - or is that too obvious (or wishful thinking)?

Posted by Krivorn in United States, 12 Jan 2012 15:46

^ That would be a great set!

Posted by renesisx in United States, 12 Jan 2012 16:19

On Eurobricks they are now confirming it has an elevator, and the release date is set for 1st Feb.

Posted by broomhandle in United States, 12 Jan 2012 16:23

sorry to sound negative, but this is the 1st building i feel dose NOT fit in. a town hall would not be a modular building. like next door to a pet store and a grocery store.

and the price is too high. and looks kinda plain.

Posted by dodys in Romania, 12 Jan 2012 16:47

The page has been removed from that Romanian site because they've got just one box and I've took it this morning. I think it was a mistake that they've received it so early because when they opened the transport box they found a note or something saying that they should not sell it before 1st of February or 1st of March (I don't remember exactly), but it was too late because they debited by credit card...
I will upload pictures tomorrow, it's too dark in Romania now ... and we have no electricity ... :P

Posted by brixton in Canada, 12 Jan 2012 16:53

@dodys: How are you on the computer if you don't have electricity? Just curious. Anyways, I'm looking forward to the pics.

@MAH4546: You're right about economies of scale.

Posted by Doctor Leg O'Brick in United Kingdom, 12 Jan 2012 18:54

ncbarrett, Im not a real one! In the LEGO world, Im a mad scientst....
On topic, that POTC picture is abit..urm...overused perhaps?

Posted by tyrannosaurusphil in United States, 12 Jan 2012 20:12

This is definitely a cool set and I will certainly purchase but have to agree with broomhandle, it does not really fit in with the other modular buildings. The execution is spot on, especially with some of the details I've seen pictures of and the amount of mini figs, but the concept could have been more thought out. I'm not sure about the success of the sets as a whole anymore though. FB is still in many Lego stores and PS has been out for a bit. GG was pulled from the shelves months after GE was on sale. Something seems amiss... Anyone else?

Posted by grogall in Germany, 12 Jan 2012 20:46

@tyrannosaurusphil, Sorry but I disagree. Remember that FB was released quite late in 2009 unlike most other modular buildings which have been released in March-Apil timeline.

Also the many hits and comments on Eurobricks and Brickset shows that this them is just as popular as ever.

Sure is that Lego is not going to please everyone with every set, But in a hole this series is still on of the best they have conceived, and also hope it will continue for many years to come!

Posted by tyrannosaurusphil in United States, 12 Jan 2012 21:23

@grogall, I do not mean to say that the series as a whole is not great. As a fan of Lego since age 5 (I'm 26 now ) I wholeheartedly agree that the modular series is fantastic. And when I speak of success, I meant from a monetary standpoint, like, FB is still on shelves so maybe they're looking to sell more before they stop offering it and it's simply not selling. I think the sets are hit for true Lego fans but for the common passers-by or casual fans they may not be luring in as many as expected. Of course, these are all just theories a teacher thinks about when he's grading papers and the like and there could obviously be much more to it than what is said here. As always, I am open to anyone and all comments and opinions.

Posted by Town in United States, 12 Jan 2012 22:48

Too big, too expensive, not for me- I can buy a PS3 for that much.

I also have a Town Hall already, it came in the Town Plan with an awesome garage, a movie theater, and sweet vintage cars.

Posted by Yoda 56 in United States, 13 Jan 2012 00:50

Very nice set, I like that they used dark orange as the main color for the building.

Posted by Be-Burger in Israel, 13 Jan 2012 03:52

How much will it be in USD? I hope they don't charge more than the previous Modular Buildings, or else it will be more difficult to get this one.

I'm assuming that since pictures were leaked now, it will be out within a month.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 13 Jan 2012 07:47

I think the Town Hall modular building looks much better than the Town Hall from the Town Plan set even if the former looks plain and blocky in the upper levels. What I loved about the Town Plan set is that you also got a nice looking retro cinema, a gas station with a car wash, vintage cars and a pond. I would prefer to get the Town Plan set for those reasons but it's not available anymore and was never available in Canada.

Posted by train_nut in United Arab Emirates, 13 Jan 2012 07:58

Guys, what do wanna see as the next modular? Personally, i wanna see a cinema (now that theyve repeated a sub-set from the town plan)

Posted by Plastic_Nurak_80 in Italy, 13 Jan 2012 10:30

I love this set, I'd like now that TLC creates a new, big cardboard townplan.

Posted by dodys in Romania, 13 Jan 2012 13:40

Where can I upload photos? And what would you like to see from the package?

Posted by halcyon305 in United States, 13 Jan 2012 13:41

Waiting for interior shots of this one. It seems to have more depth than the others, with about half the "backyard" that GG and FB have, so the inside should be very roomy. Hope the price doesn't go up too much, $150 is painful for me as it is.

Posted by dodys in Romania, 13 Jan 2012 14:37

I will start working on it right now and I will make some photos while building ... Do you want also scans from the books?

Posted by AllanSmith in New Zealand, 13 Jan 2012 14:44

Price in New Zealand will be $360. $60 more than previous modulars. Due on sale here in July.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 13 Jan 2012 18:26

A cinema is a great idea. I think the modular style may be too restrictive in terms of design though. The cinema may end up being too blocky.

Posted by lovelyuba in United States, 13 Jan 2012 19:29

I would like to see a classic Theater. With a grand entrance, and staircase , chandelier and a stage and orchestra pit.. I don't know may be something that looks more of a european theater . In order to make it right there should be 2 sets of Modular Theater (something like part 1 and part 2) so it can be the right size. Just an idea :))

I like it But don't think it as the "wow factor" as I thought the Petshop did when I first saw it As posted before it does remind me a little of the Fire Station and is a little plain It's the first of the modular series I have had second thought's about buying But that said I am a sucker for anything modular, have space on my shelf and maybe the funds if my Lotto numbers come up tonight Because the rate TLG are putting out great sets this year I'm going to need a million to keep up

E.g. a movie theater, a post office, a school, ...

I hope next year they won't release a giant church or so...
