2012 timetable of releases

  • 2012 timetable of releases

Posted by Huw, 25 Jan 2012 08:03. Filed under New sets.

To help you budget, I thought it worth summarising the release dates for the sets that'll be available in normal shops:

    • March: Disney Princess, Ninjago spinners (second wave)
    • April: Marvel Super Heroes
    • May: Series 7 figs
    • June: Ninjago spinners (third wave)
    • August: Games, Friends, LOTR, Star Wars, Monster Fighters, Creator, Technic, Ninjago play sets, Mining, Hero Factory
    • September: Ninjago booster packs and spinners (fourth wave), Advent calendars, Series 8 figs

So, not too much new until August, so you have plenty of time to save up!

Huw, you forgot Marvel Superheroes in April!
Thanks for the schedule. I definitely need to budget for all of the amazing stuff coming out this year.

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 08:18

Would anyone know the cost of some of these sets for example, I think on fbtb the total cost for a complete LOTR collection would be £321 or converted into American dollars it would be $500 and in euros it would be €385(but do note Americans will be able to buy the sets at a more less expensive price)
http://www.fbtb.net/2012/01/24/uk-toy-fair-2012-lord-of-the-rings-news/

And for Marvel it would be
£171, in American dollars it would be $266 or in euros €205, but do note these are only British pounds converted to others

Which means that all of the above hits Australia early 2013. :P

Posted by legobigbloke in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 08:34

^^^ Well it is a long way for a minifig to paddle! :)

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 08:35

@TheCahleySlash; I think you've done the same as me and missed out the Spider-Man set in your Marvel prices. However, we do not yet know the price of it.
@Huw; Please add the Marvel sets. These are the sets I'm most worried about (financially) as I want to get the lot :P
The only other theme I'm interest in (mainly) is SW, which, as always, I'll get the odd set from.

Thanks for all you've done today! Really appreciated! :)

l already want LOTR sets and its january,so much wait......

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 08:54

Thanks @Lost, I had forgotten them when skimming through the catalogue!

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 09:07

@BrickBob09
Well there is a website that reports that the Lego Spiderman set will be $69.99 , otherwise at least £44 and at least €53

Posted by tiberium_blue in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 09:13

Thanks for this. When is the Town Hall due out?

Posted by LEGOSpinjitzu in Turkey, 25 Jan 2012 09:16

Is there a chance that the summer Ninjago sets could be released before the 7th of July? I will go to Germany on that day, and I will buy 9450 Epic Dragon Battle. I will also buy some spinners. And, one more questions which spinners will be released in September?

Posted by tamamahm in United States, 25 Jan 2012 09:30

Any word on Lego Master Builder?

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 09:34

@TheCahleySlash; If it's at $69.99, then it will probably be £69.99 as well. The Batcave is $69.99 and £69.99, so it's logical the Spiderman set will be priced the same. This means the Marvel sets will cost £241, even more than the £226 DC sets. All together it's going to cost around £487! I think I need a lie down...

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 09:42

^ that's assuming you pay RRP for everything, which would be crazy! Most things get discounted at some point if you're patient (says she, who has the self-discipline of a 6 year old. "Want Lego, want it NOW!"). But this year I know I have to be savvy about waiting for deals or I'll never get everything I want to. Or I will, but I'll be living off jam sandwiches the entire year.

Posted by supersympa in Sweden, 25 Jan 2012 09:46

@tiberium march is the town hall

@huw, thanks for all the infos!

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 09:56

^^I buy all my Lego at retail price, the thing is if I don't buy it when its out, other people will snap up the offer.
Also its supporting the Lego Company aswell!
@BrickBob09: Ive bought all the sets I want now until the summer waves arrive so time to start the budget!

Posted by platinum805 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 10:01

hero factory is going to be released in july not august, and also the ninjago. and there doing 4 waves of spinners! thats crazy, so like lloyd is going to be released in the summer and NRG ninja is fall. and we want pics!

Posted by platinum805 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 10:01

Posted by LEGOSpinjitzu in Turkey, 25 Jan 2012 10:44

@platinum805 oh please, can you tell me when are they going to release the ninjago sets in july? last year summer ninjago sets were released in june in germany, so i would like to know. and where did you learn that they're gonna release ninjago sets and spinners in july? please reply :)

Posted by Gandalf1 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 11:40

So I have to wait till August to get LOTR? :'( I though they would be here in June. August 9 is my birthday, so people won't have much time if they, uh, kindly decide to give me some LOTR sets. :D But I'll have a LEGO store way before then so they'll probably be there quickly. :D

Posted by jeffjcc in United States, 25 Jan 2012 11:43

Hahaha I love this post. Thanks huw... For our "budgets"

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 11:50

Thanks Huw for all your journalistic prowess at Toy Fair and all these updates.
Forgive me though...in August...what is the 'Mining' theme?

Posted by max villano in Greece, 25 Jan 2012 12:15

Well maybe LOTR will be realesed early in USA,so we will be able to buy them from ebay.

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 25 Jan 2012 12:16

@Legodad42: A new City subtheme.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 25 Jan 2012 12:56

I'm going to be so broke come August...

Posted by UshiUshiKaku in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 13:13

Just in case anyone's confused by the Ninjago spinner waves:

Wave 2: Kai ZX and Fang-Suei.
Wave 3: Spitta, NRG Jay, Fangdam, NRG Cole and the second Starter Set with NRG Kai & Chokun.
Wave 4: Slithraa, Lloyd ZX and NRG Zane.

I worked this out by looking at the leaked pics we saw a while back and I noticed that some of them had the Constrictai snakes at the top of the blister pack, while others had the Venomari. Of course, waves 3 & 4 could be vice-versa, but seeing as this order corresponds with the set number order, I don't think it's likely.

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 13:34

I can wait for the awesome SW, LOTR,SH and Ninjago sets as theres some good sets about ATM I still haven't got. Other than The series figures, store exclusives and the first few sets I buy in 2012 (as well as 3 for 2 & geta free something when you spend £0.00 offers) I rarely buy any thing at full price and £70.00 for a set that costs $70.00, that's I can starve from until it goes on sale for 10% or more.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 13:37

^^ That is exactly right, Ushi.

Posted by LEGOSpinjitzu in Turkey, 25 Jan 2012 13:53

I think wave 4 is fake because all the summer spinner numbers are in order except 9591 Weapon Pack. Advent Calendars and Ninjago booster packs will also be released with the summer sets.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 25 Jan 2012 14:05

Lego is keeping me waiting longer than Blizzard... or maybe not -_-

Posted by brixton in Canada, 25 Jan 2012 14:26

My wish list for the year is series 6, 7 and maybe 8. However, I'm a bit hesitant to keep buying collectible mini-figures because my first foray into series 6 netted quite a few duplicates. I'll pick up a couple of Marvel Superhero sets and 1 very small Monster Fighter set. I want the swamp creature. Other than that mini-figure I have no interest in the theme.

I'll pass on the new Creator house (unless the official photos wow me) because it looks terrible in the one unofficial photo I saw. There is a lot of talk about the CITY mining sets but all mention of the hospital has dropped off the radar. Are we still getting a LEGO hospital set this year? After being disappointed with the Town Hall set, the hospital is my most anticipated set of the year (besides the Superhero stuff).

Posted by I want more legos in N/A, 25 Jan 2012 15:28

Didn't the US press release say that LOTRs sets would be out in June?

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 25 Jan 2012 15:40

While the release date is August, LEGO often quietly releases the sets a month or two before. I wouldn't be surprised if you could pick up several of these sets in June.

Posted by ncbarrett in United States, 25 Jan 2012 15:46

I remember AC sets were out in June, even thought scheduled for August.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 17:05

@ Isabella and Lego Liker...thanks. Any sneak preview picks from City Mining anywhere?

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 25 Jan 2012 17:29

August looks pricey.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 25 Jan 2012 18:05

So I take it that Minifigures Series 8 wasn't revealed at the fair? There doesn't seem to be any mention of the actual characters anywhere, after a few Google searches. Or maybe they were there, and the people who saw them were sworn to absolute secrecy...

Posted by Jay Kenobi ZX in United States, 25 Jan 2012 18:46

I though LotR was June.... :(

Posted by Legoman113 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 18:51

Mining Theme!!! Woot! Looks Awesome.

Posted by CharlieTheFunEngine in Australia, 25 Jan 2012 19:38

@ Brickmaster47 - Funny, but it's not that bad...

Posted by bionicle212 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 19:42

does anyone know how much the "epic dragon battle" set is going to cost?

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 25 Jan 2012 20:39

Not that I know as of now, legoDad242.

Posted by GeluNumber1 in United States, 25 Jan 2012 20:59

Huw, did you see the series 8 at the London Toy Fair?

Posted by deathwatch in Hong Kong, 26 Jan 2012 07:15

what's this mining theme about?

Posted by KillDeer in Canada, 26 Jan 2012 11:27

For Canadian Bricksetters just take the above months into consideration plus or minus 6 months.

Posted by vamproe in United States, 26 Jan 2012 16:17

monsters ! It sounds like I'm one of the few, but I can't wait to get most of these sets.
from what I've seen....the only one I might pass on is hte haunted train (but I want glow in the dark ghosts that come with it)

@deathwatch search utube for the mining sets

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 26 Jan 2012 16:44

What is NRG?

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 26 Jan 2012 18:05

The minig theme is a new City subtheme.

Posted by LEGOKip in United States, 26 Jan 2012 20:25

FWTW:

Here in the U.S. my son attends the store-sponsored LEGO club meetings and I've noticed the new releases tend to come out the month before the corresponding theme meeting. If this holds true to pattern, it means LOTR should be out in June, because the meeting in-store is in July.

@jonbuddy - NRG is the 4th wave of Ninjago spinners Huw mentioned. They feature more gold weapons per ninja and removable crowns atop the spinners. If you say the letters quickly N-R-G, you'll understand the word they represent.

Huw, thanks for all your reporting!

Posted by Nabii in Denmark, 27 Jan 2012 03:44

^ Yes, these are the UK release dates, I believe most countries get the summer sets in July. (They pretty much do in the UK too, but August is official).

Posted by Juwayyid in United States, 27 Jan 2012 16:00

What are the mining sets? Another form of Power Miners or Rock Raiders? By the way, Power Miners is probably my favorite theme, so I would love to see them back, or at least something similar!

Posted by CharlieTheFunEngine in Australia, 27 Jan 2012 20:21

@ legoDad42, deathwatch and Juwayyid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4JXJdajjh8

Posted by LEGOSpinjitzu in Turkey, 28 Jan 2012 02:38

Not all of the NRG Ninjago spinners will be released in September. I made a research about it and I found out that only NRG Zane, Slithraa, and Lloyd ZX will be released in September. Ninjago sets are also coming in June.

Posted by Rolyat24 in United States, 28 Jan 2012 22:01

I wish I knew how much the Ninjago sets are going to be. That would help with my budget.

Posted by LEGOSpinjitzu in Turkey, 29 Jan 2012 05:43

@Rolyat24 I know. 9447 Lasha's Bite Cycle is $19.99 (3 minifigs, a small blacksmith shop, bite cycle, and Venomari fang blade.) 9448 Samurai Mech is $39.99 (2 minifigs, a small catapult, samurai mech, and Constractai fang blade.) 9449 Ultra Sonic Raider is $79.99 (6 minifigs, a giant tank, and Fangpyre fang blade.) 9450 Epic Dragon Battle is $119.99 (7 minifigs, Great Devourer, a jail, the four-headed giant dragon, and Hybnobrai fang blade.)

Posted by theminifigcollector in United States, 29 Jan 2012 13:40

On an unrelated note i found the Star Wars sets at my local TRU along with boxes of S6 figs.
