    ©2012 LEGO Group

Valid thru' Saturday 2/4, Toys R Us is offering a free Anakin's Pod Racer polybag (30057) with any total LEGO Star Wars construction set purchase of $20 or more.  You can also currently buy these both in store and online for $4.99 at Toys R Us.  There is a catch though.  If you haven't yet noticed, February has arrived but Toys R Us continues to maintain their excessive holiday markups on most LEGO sets.  Shining examples are the V-Wing, Ewok Attack and Battle for Geonosis at 40%, 33% and 25% over MSRP respectively.  At this rate, you would save only a net $1 off MSRP if you used the two new battlepacks to reach the $20 threshold.  But for those like me who can't resist a new polybag, your best bet will be to pick up the Droid Escape (9490) or Geonosian Cannon (9491) as they are only marked up 10%.  Here's hoping Toys R Us will fix their pricing sometime soon.

I think the best example of TRU markup is the fact that my local store still has a TON of SW advent calendar sets - piled up with "Clearance" signs on them - yet the price is $39.98!

I only buy the poly bags from them, because it is hard to find anywhere else. I gave up on sets, since I have a Lego Store close and when you consider the VIP points, you really don't save any money at the Evil TRU.

I've given up on TRU as well. Their prices are ridiculous and their customer service stinks. They send me coupons that I can only use in a store, even though the nearest brick and mortar store is 90 minutes away. No thanks!

Fu*k TRU. I just went to my local TRU and saw the price was $41.99 for the Harry Potter Quittich Match. At Lego it is $19.99. WTF?!?!?!? My only guess is that TRU is paying MSRP for Lego and has to markup to make a profit. Anyone have any insight to this? I guess I am lucky to live in LA and have Lego stores 30-40 minutes in any direction.

Lego Batman Cave is currently 89.99 at TRU. The set is only 69.99 MSRP.

Also my TRU still has a ton of Toy Story sets and those weird Miner sets, but as some of you have mentioned they're all still at original or slightly higher MSRP.

Is this also available in Canada?

Damn, you guys are lucky, why are you complaining? Up here in Canada our TRU's actually clearance out Themes and Sets, there isn't a single Power Miner or Toy Story set to be had, with exception to Buzz and Woody to the Rescue. I'd love to have your problems, at least then I'd still be able to pick up some of the sets like Pizza Planet Truck Rescue two years later. Even at that ridiculous mark-up.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 02 Feb 2012 21:46

Pizza Planet Truck is on sale now at Lego.com for half price.

TRU will one day go out of business because EVERYTHING in that store is overpriced, from baby items to electronics To me TRU is dead since there is a Lego Store 15mins from me. The ONLY time TRU gets my money is for the polybags that you can't get elsewhere like the Jet Ski, Creator Mini Lighthouse, etc. On top of that the Lego sections in the TRU stores here in Columbus are still 1/2 empty.

They have had this offer since last Sunday and I got this when I bought the Droid escape set. Dang I wish I had a lego store close by, Funny how California has the most Lego stores and all of them are at least and hour drive away from me. and I live ten minutes away from a mall and it has no Lego store. :(

TRU really needs to lower their prices or they won't get anymore bussiness

At least I don't have a TRU nearby, but i have 2 K-Marts (One 4 miles away, the other one 13 miles away) and a Target just 3/4 mile away from my house.

@vpustote Cry me a river! Australian price equivalent dollar for dollar is $129.99 for the batcave! Rip off or what! : (

the only way this polybag deal makes sense is on a 20.00 set. Any set higher than that is marked up over the 5.00 anyways and you will be better off just buying the polybag outright then going elsewhere for the set. TRU stinks. I could live with a little markup for convenience (closest B&M store is 3 hours away) but the markups my local store has is crazy. I have been biting the bullet and going to Wally World for my sets and I really hate shopping there.

Without a Lego store for many miles, I'm sometimes forced to go to TRU and this is one of those occasions. I'll probably get the Geonosian Cannon unless there's something going on instores that I haven't heard about (i.e. some sale that's exclusive to my local TRU). The thing I hate most about TRU is that with the '6212: X-wing Fighter' they claimed the original price was $99.99 (which they actually had priced it at that for some point) and then put it on "discount" to "only" $59.99. They seem to do that with a lot of stuff (especially LEGO and NERF).

@theminifigcollector - Sadly, grandparents usually shop there because most of them don't even know a Lego isle exists in Walmart or Target.

Personally I don't like TRU, although they always have a large collection. The closest Lego store is in Phoenix and that 4 hours away. The closest TRU is in Tucson 60 miles away. I always check the PX, Wal-mart and Target. In fact i got 22 of the snow trooper battle pack for $5.90 each at Wal-mart last night. Major deal there, 50% off. I check every day to see whats on sale and whats new. However I have for the most part decided to go with lego.com for any new purchases. At least there I get the VIP points for some free goodies.

@The Reviewer - Re: "They have had this offer since last Sunday" - I hemmed and hawed all week on whether or not to post these promotions at all. With the current situation at TRU, I am having a hard time shopping there myself let alone encouraging others to do so. :o(

I just saw the Markup on The Catwoman set (6858) and is selling for $21.99 at TRU and $12.99 at Lego. WTF is wrong with TRU?
