Pictures from the German toy fair

  • Pictures from the German toy fair

Posted by Huw, 03 Feb 2012 05:11. Filed under New sets.

As suspected, images are starting to surface from the German toy fair that started on Wednesday.

The first gallery to be brought to my attention is at a Slovenian LEGO site, Kocke Klub where you can see overview pictures of the displays.

Looking at the images, one thing's for sure, LEGO spent way more time and effort on the display than they did for London!

I believe the show runs until Saturday and I suspect more images will appear online then. So, keep an eye out and let us know when you find them! (Thanks RJH)

Update: for some reason the source site has removed them: "Sorry guys. Because of stupid member who wrote some unreal comments on other forum, I decide to remove pictures. " Not quite sure what he's referring to, hopefully nothing to do with Brickset...

Update: Smashing Bricks has reposted the images and added a few more.

LOTR spider (Shelob) and the Monster Fighters Train look incredible. Not enough to see in Dracula's castle but I am waiting for that one the most. The flying machine ( I hesitate to call it a plane) from the monster fighters looks absolutely dreadful.

Posted by pincer in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 05:41

The Monster sets look better than I thought they would be.
Love the look of the LOTR series. Only wished they had the license years earlier.
Are they going to be releasing Super Hero minifigure packs?

Posted by ChicoCheco in Norway, 03 Feb 2012 05:42

Finally the first pictures of upcoming new lego city "mining" theme! It looks great to me. Also I noticed that the horse trailer in Friends theme is the same like in 7635 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=7635-1.

Posted by The Baron in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 05:49

Monster Fighters sets looking great. Ghost train and Castle/Haunted House now pencilled in on shopping list.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 03 Feb 2012 06:16

They went all out with the Friends theme, didn't they? ("I'll be there for youuuuuu...") The seaplane looks a little unsafe, heh.

Looks like there's a couple more Star Wars planets, which I think are nifty.

The Monsters plane-thing looks pretty bad, yeah. But the train looks amazing! I'm still not sure I'll get it, but they went all out. And from afar, Dracula's castle looks pretty awesome too.

And there's the new Mining sets. Pity they're not likely to sell that giant rocky mountain along with the trucks and little underground railway set, eh?

Pity there aren't more pictures of the LotR sets ---- but Shelob looks AMAZING. Moria and Weathertop look good too.

Posted by duilim in Australia, 03 Feb 2012 06:28

I was quite pleased to see how good the Malevolence set looked - it was a 50:50 for me as to whether I'd get it but I think I'll have to have it now.
Apart from that, LotR looked very promising although I was disappointed not to see any pictures of the Marvel Superheroes sets. Just dying to see those.
Not really too interested in the Mining subtheme of City, Friend (although this looked really good too!) nor Monster Hunters. Hoping that more pics will surface soon!!

Posted by Krivorn in United States, 03 Feb 2012 06:45

i actually really liked those monster fighter sets. The castle is HUGE.

Everything looks good!

Posted by deepdalelegend in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 07:00

Like the look of the train! Any ideas on the Star wars red x-wing looking ship and who are the figs?

Posted by mysteriouspi in United States, 03 Feb 2012 07:31

LotR looks fantastic from this closer view. Good to see Shelob with brown legs instead of red and black, hopefully that's how they'll keep her.
Also excited for the new Star Wars planet sets. Please tell me that's Lobot in Bespin and not an Imperial Officer - I can't really tell which one the figure is right now.

Posted by Trandoshan in Canada, 03 Feb 2012 07:32

Weathertop appears to open.

Posted by deepdalelegend in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 07:37

It is Lobot and it looks like the other is Endor and at-st, does it look like the at-st pilot has a new helmet?

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 03 Feb 2012 08:20

That castle set from Monster Fighters looks awesome.

As does the LOTR Shelob build.

Posted by UtarEmpire in United States, 03 Feb 2012 08:31

Yeah, LOTR sets look fantastic. I'm loving the Weathertop build.

Posted by DocDanCan in United States, 03 Feb 2012 08:32

Deepdalelegend, the red ship may be the 9497 Old Republic Star Fighter. If you do a Google image search, you may see some preliminary images. Not sure about the minifigs, check older posts that listed them for some sets.

Posted by GravitySlave in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 08:33

The red Star Wars fighter I think is from the new The Old Republic game. Can't remember the characters at the mo. Also coming from the game is this ship:

http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/starships/fury

The red ship looks much better than the leaked promo box shots so can't wait to see the final Fury!!

Posted by DocDanCan in United States, 03 Feb 2012 08:48

I agree, they knocked it out of the park with Shelob. Not sure about Monster Fighters yet, mainly looking at that theme for the minifigs. Same with LOTR really, unless they can make one really outstanding set to display them all in. Not sure how I feel about Helm's Deep yet. Wish there was a Rivendell or Lothlorien set. Even a Mordor set! Maybe if there is a second wave. Since I don't play the game, probably won't invest in the Old Republic sets. I do really like the look of the Malevolence though! Might just try to score minifigures from most of the sets, especially LOBOT WITH FLESH COLORING! I have the yellow Lobot, so this one was a few years in the making. So happy to see it, but not a fan of the orange twin pods. I'll stick with the classic red set.

Posted by GravitySlave in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 08:51

Re the red StarFighter, finally managed to dig up some more info.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Republic_starfighter_(Great_Galactic_War)

Only appearance so far has been in the lead in comics for the game but can only presume it is in the game.

Posted by DocDanCan in United States, 03 Feb 2012 08:53

Actually, on second thought, a Gondor/Minas Tirith set would be AWESOME. Aragorn, Gandalf, Hobbits, orcs, dragon, troll, catapult, city wall, siege tower... There was a dragon, right?

Posted by DocDanCan in United States, 03 Feb 2012 08:59

OMG ISENGARD, SARUMAN THE WHITE, TREEBEARD.

And Sauron's tower, Crack of Doom/Mount Doom/Destruction of the Ring.

Why doesn't Lego ask me for ideas?

Ok done dominating this post.

Posted by Niku in Guatemala, 03 Feb 2012 09:13

The Monsters sets look excellent.
Helms Deep is a total win.

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 03 Feb 2012 09:38

My goodness the sets that I can see all look superb!!!

Posted by pstrickler27 in United States, 03 Feb 2012 10:03

Huw, I did manage to get a glimpse of the pictures, but I believe they have been deleted now. I tried searching through the website, but I got lost (language barrier). Monster Fighters look the best IMO!

Posted by DocDanCan in United States, 03 Feb 2012 10:07

pstrickler, the pics were nabbed by other bloggers, just Google image search "Lego German Toy Fair" and a few will pop up.

Posted by DocDanCan in United States, 03 Feb 2012 10:12

LOTR & SW showed up here: http://www.fbtb.net/

Posted by platinum805 in United States, 03 Feb 2012 10:31

brickipedia has s star wars pic, and one the lord of the rings, but you cant see them very well.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 03 Feb 2012 10:37

FBTB has a few good pictures.

Posted by Gandalf1 in United States, 03 Feb 2012 10:55

Hmm, I was able to Google search and find the LOTR image. It's aweome! So Sam won't be having blond hair after all, which is strange. Shelob is the best giant spider they've ever made; partly because of the size. The second Aragog was not much bigger than a CD. Yes, I am definitely getting as many of these LOTR sets as I can.

I wasn't able to find any Monster Fighters pictures. <|:{(} <--In case you're wondering, that's Gandalf with a sad face.

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 10:55

@Huw they are all here: http://bricksandbooks.co.uk/2012/2012-summer-set-images/

Can some one tell me, how many images were there on the website, the only one's I have seen is the 1 on fbtb.
If anyone has any other photos then can you PM me.

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 11:13

I thought the lord of the rings sets were going to be bigger :( I'm still not sure what to make of the montser fighter theme - it looks kinda a like a jumble sale of pieces all thrown together to me

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 03 Feb 2012 11:17

Still no Marvel... :(

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 11:17

Thanks RJH

I think there is a picture of new set from the marvel line as seen on http://www.brickheroes.com
(the quinjet or something similar?)

Look behind Thor and Iron man in the picture. I think it has a women with red hair in the cockpit.

Man the SW sets look awesome.

Posted by bahnstormer in Germany, 03 Feb 2012 15:52

@RJH - just a thought - copying and hosting someone else's pics is one thing but keeping the original file names and even hosting a pic of the guy you nicked them from might be considered taking the mick...

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 03 Feb 2012 16:40

@bahnstormer, might want to check how I obtained them before assuming things! Plus the guy in a picture with the oversized hobbits is from another site again no full facts before pointing fingers please.

Monster Fighters:

These set's look absolutely incredible!. I know some of you said the ''Plane'' look's weird, but honestly the Theme is meant to look strange and peculiar adding to the effect. It look's to be set in the 1950's or so, so the technology is suppose to be whacky and intriguing, like the Original Studio Monster/Fantasy Theme. Really Really looking forward with that series. The Train looked incredible, better than what I imagined, and it looked huge!, as with the Castle!. I loved how they made the Castle in a sort of angular positioning, where the two large sides with gates led up the the 1st tall tower, then the 2nd tall tower, that looked amazing. All of the set's in that Theme look VERY good!

Lord of the Rings:

WOW!, Just WOW!, They look absolutely sensational!. I love how the ''Battle for of Helm's Deep'' Set had many curves and all these thick part's and it just looked like a really large set!, which make it look very large and well thought out, I'm loving that set!. I love all of the Lord of the Rings Set's, so many new Customizations and Molds, and to think we have more Waves coming!.

CITY:

To be honest I was disappointed with this Years City set's. I guess all we can do is wait, hopefully set's like the long awaited Hospital will bring my expectations up.

Star Wars:

WOW!, Once again!, Another fantastic Year for Star Wars. The Maleviolence actually looked quite good, and the Star-fighters looked very intriguing also. Let's hope the Jabba's Palace looks good, and also the other Star Wars set's.

Technic:

I'm 50/50 on this one. The Helicopter and 4WD looked quite good!, but I'm not entirely sure about the rest of the set's. I think it was a weaker year for Technic.

Ninjago: WOAH!, Where did all these fantastic set's come from?. LEGO really did themselves with Ninjago, sending out quite a large range of set's, which all look very good!.

Friends/Creator/Hero Factory/Others.

All in all the Friends, Creator and all the other set's out seem to be really well done. I love the new molds for the Hero Factory, and the inclusion of so many rare pieces in the Friends Theme. Look's to be quite a good year for LEGO.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 03 Feb 2012 22:13

I really hope that with some Old Republic sets, we'll see some Knights of the Old Republic sets. Imagine a Lego Hammerhead Cruiser or a Lego Ebon Hawk! I can't say much about the actual sets, seeing as I arrived too late to view the images, and it's driving me crazy. I fail to see how, "Good things come to those who wait," applies to Lego :P

Posted by refriedbeans in United States, 03 Feb 2012 22:27

Loving the Friends sets! At first I didn't like the horse riding sets but the look wonderful! Especially the large "country club" lodge! I also can't wait for the new Ninjago sets! The large dragon and snake set looks great! The large vehicle thing is cool too! (although it's a little too Exo-Force looking IMO)

Posted by GhastlyTrolls in Canada, 04 Feb 2012 00:48

Lasha's Bite Cycle kind of reminded me of the Fangpyre vehicles. I thought it would have a different design since it was a different tribe but, oh well.

Posted by Gem, in Australia, 04 Feb 2012 04:23

:O! Can anyone tell me why there is so many new Ninjago Mini-figures in the new Link?. There's so many new ones?, What set's can they fit in?, there's about 40 or something it's crazy, some are completely new with new mold's, or perhaps the 3 new Summer set's just have a lot of Mini-figures :)

Posted by vwong19 in United States, 04 Feb 2012 04:25

I am not a technic fan, but that remote control off broader looks pretty sweet!

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 04 Feb 2012 04:41

I'm guessing that from the monster fighters image here http://smashing-bricks.com/files/2012/02/nurem5.jpg its good to see that Marvel don't have a monopoly on certain 'superhero themed' new moulds/parts like the Star Wars and Indy licences. Some nice figs, and with wolverines claws and Thor's hammer as well!

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 04 Feb 2012 05:08

I can't get over how good the new ninjago sets look!!! I especially like the purple snake and ninja lloyd figures and the samurai mech looks awesome as does the giant snake!!!

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 04 Feb 2012 05:19

New pictures!

Does the Samurai Mecha actually come with that giant snake? 'Cause that would be most awesome set this year, hands-down.

I'm not yet sold on the four-headed dragon. But no, the new Ninjago sets are ROCKINGLY AWESOME.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 04 Feb 2012 07:30

As long as that Old Republic Trooper has a helmet in the actual set I'll be happy.

Posted by jarolo145 in United States, 04 Feb 2012 10:06

if you look in the background of the marvel statues, you can see part of the quinjet aerial assault!

Posted by legolasher66 in United States, 04 Feb 2012 10:11

I'm loving the Bite Cycle, because I like the Venomari, and 'cause it apparently costs $19.99.

^Zordboy: it does not come in that set, but it comes in the Epic Dragon Battle.

Posted by pantenkind in United States, 04 Feb 2012 11:17

I am not at all into Ninjago but that super sonic cycle looks pretty damn cool. Also I have been looking for a good set with tank type treads for an moc. I also kinda like that 4 headed dragon too. I will stay reserved on it till I see better pictures. Speaking of better pictures...All the pictures are the exact same. were cameras not allowed and these are generic "press photos" or something? I would love to see opposite angles on a few of those. Anyone know where some are?

Posted by Ethanator567 in United States, 04 Feb 2012 11:30

I love City! Its one of the only kind of sets i buy. I looked through all the pictures and the only one that really made ma interested is city. I think that all the new city sets are AWESOME. The mine looks awesome with the low slung drilling thing! When i was looking through city i saw in 2005 that there was a large dump truck, now i have a chance to get a NEW version. Now i must say that the excavator looks a little weird but ill still get it for the truck! Well over all i think that the mining theme is something that I will get.

Oh ya i didn't forget about the hospital, i think that that is AWESOME AND MODERN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by bionicle212 in United States, 04 Feb 2012 19:35

at first i thought the name "epic dragon battle" was kinda cheesy, now that ive seen it. it deserves the title! the minifigs are great! pythor is no exection, i think he's the best one right next to the green ninja!

Posted by JohnnyB in United Kingdom, 05 Feb 2012 01:00

Great pics - though I have to admit i wish i could see the new creator house.

Posted by Tintin14 in Netherlands, 05 Feb 2012 06:50

And Malevolence is awesome.

@ legogeek: Thanks! :D Those pics are AWESOME. :D

:D X ninja (:P)

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 05 Feb 2012 15:59

Okay, now I've seen the sets. I'm kind of disappointed that there is only one picture of LOTR. But besides that all the sets look great. I really like the monster fighter sets, and City is improving from Cops and Robbers Syndrome. The Malevolence is a lot small then I thought, from what I could see it looks like it's only one foot long. Still, it's a very sleek ship that resembles the original amazingly.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 05 Feb 2012 19:00

Despite my hate of the mini-dolls, I liked the big Friends setup. The Malevolence's big cannon seems quite small. It should have been taller, IMO.

And I WANT THAT 4X4 CRAWLER!!!
