New LEGO store in Milwaukee (Wauwatosa), Wisconsin

  • New LEGO store in Milwaukee (Wauwatosa), Wisconsin

Posted by Huw, 08 Feb 2012 15:51. Filed under Shopping (USA).

Here's some great news for those of you in Wisconsin from correspondent John P:

"According to our local news LEGO will be opening a store in the Mayfair Mall in Milwaukee (Wauwatosa), Wisconsin. The article stated that construction would begin this week and the store was expected to open in May, 2012. This is the first store in the Milwaukee area (and the state as far as I know). "

You can read all about it via Google news. There's also a landing page at LEGO.com already. Any Milwaukeeans in the house?

And now's the time for everyone to whine in the comments about the lack of a LEGO Store near them.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 08 Feb 2012 16:06

Haha Zackula, I think you just stopped that from happening.

Posted by GeluNumber1 in United States, 08 Feb 2012 16:29

I would whine... but I live 30 min. away from the mall of america in Minnesota. Ah, well.

Posted by Seagull in United States, 08 Feb 2012 16:35

I have two near me, so I won't complain! :P

How many stores are there in the states?

Posted by Brickmeister1138 in United States, 08 Feb 2012 16:36

Whining Statement: I am over three hours away from a Lego Store.

In all seriousness thoguh, I am glad another one is opening up, but why has Lego not put a store around Pittsburgh?

Also, is the hockey player that just appeared in the database connected with this?

Posted by rainstorm26 in United States, 08 Feb 2012 17:06

Seems like an odd location.

Posted by mikeyob in United States, 08 Feb 2012 17:08

Only 1.5 hrs from now...Madison would have been better

Posted by MaverickDengo in United States, 08 Feb 2012 17:41

The nearest LEGO store to me used to be about 2 hours or so away (when I lived in the states). Now it's over 10 hours + $40 bridge fee + I have to cross the boarder.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 08 Feb 2012 18:12

Only 25 minutes from me! Can't wait for May!

Posted by WolfboyTheMasterofTheSword in United States, 08 Feb 2012 18:29

*To self* PLEASE PUT ONE IN ST. LOUIS PLEASE...

Posted by Crow5444 in United States, 08 Feb 2012 19:00

Still need more Lego stores in Ohio all 3 of them are too far away for me shop at.

Finally! Just in time for the Avengers sets and whatnot...

Posted by natro220 in United States, 08 Feb 2012 19:28

I work next door to the Mall of America...I go there almost every day for lunch to see what they have new. So...I won't whine! : )

Posted by Pepper in United States, 08 Feb 2012 19:38

Finally! About time there was one in WI. Would be located better in Madison though...

Posted by Murdoch17 in United States, 08 Feb 2012 21:16

@WolfBoyTheMasterOfTheSword: I agree with you completely! None in Missouri at all... and the closest one is in Chicago!

...Now that that's over with, congrats to all you Wisconsin residents! May you fully enjoy your new LEGO store!

P.S. Just so you know, wolfboy, (since I can't e-mail you!) their is a Lego Users Group (LUG) for the Gateway area. Here is the webiste: http://www.gtwlug.org/
Enjoy!

Looks like Kansas City will be getting one this summer:

Best news ever! I have been waiting for a Wisconsin Lego store for ages. I don't even care that it's not in Madison (which would have been more centrally located). It's just great to see Wisconsin get some love. Big smiles from this guy :)

Posted by Blackdragon5555 in United States, 08 Feb 2012 23:31

Congrats Milwaukee still need one in Utah ;)

Posted by CurvedRoadPlate in United States, 08 Feb 2012 23:31

Mayfair mall is one of the premier malls in the state. It was the location of the 1st Wisconsin Apple store. If Wisconsin got a 2nd store Appleton would be a better choice than Madison.

Posted by mowboa in United States, 09 Feb 2012 00:13

This is great news! Mayfair is very centrally located in the Milwaukee area, and is the most trendy / upscale enclosed mall in the state. Milwaukee area is 3x as large as the Madison area, so it's a no-brainer for the first WI store. Bonus for me that it's 10 minutes from my house!

Ah #$!* Why can't I have a lego store near me? I live in California and wich is the sate with the most Lego stores and NONE of them are near me (the nearest one is about and hour drive). I even live 10 minutes away from a mall and it does not have a Lego store. :( (Why does lego have to keep putting stores in all the crappy states)

Posted by dafish in Europe, 09 Feb 2012 02:29

see you were right Zackula, they are whining a lot! Should I mention that my store in Copenhagen is only 25 minutes walking distance (hehe)? It's a nice place (of course) but best of it perhaps is the numerous tourist families from all of Europe and overseas popping in with their kids, getting excited in as many languages!

Posted by ericjohn in United States, 09 Feb 2012 06:50

I'm not even sure what LEGO Store would be closest to me, but I can honestly say that it is far enough away that I don't visit it. A Pittsburgh store would be ideal for me; it would be about an hour and forty-five minutes away. Close even to visit regularly, but far enough to not spend too much money there.

Posted by Jack Pepper in United States, 09 Feb 2012 10:05

As a Madisonian, this is the best news I've heard! It's only a 90 min drive, and I have family in Mwke, so I can stop in when I'm in the area! SO EXCITED!

Posted by modena in Italy, 09 Feb 2012 11:36

Why couldn't there be a LEGO store right down my street:

Answer: Nobody cares about stores in Italy.

Posted by BeardedCastleGuy in United States, 09 Feb 2012 11:43

@brickmeister1138 , no New stores tend to get Minifig 3 packs for their Exclusive Set, my first thought was it was the Monthly Model Build, and clicking thru to the database page confirmed that. You may recall that a few months ago LEGO started assigning these set numbers.

I live 25 minutes or so away from the MoA Flagship store and don't get there nearly enough, although that's better for my wallet :)

Am I slightly jealous of those that have multiple store in easy driving distance? Yep, but I am glad to at least have access to the oldest Brand Retail location they have *AND* that they are continuing to open more locations so that others can have a 'Local' store.

Posted by dafish in Europe, 09 Feb 2012 11:47

modena, rest assured, I care about LEGO stores in Italy (and Hard Rock Cafes) ^...^

Lego can we have a Lego store in Manchester uk PLEASE !!!!!!

Posted by phantom78 in Australia, 09 Feb 2012 17:57

when i used google maps to find my nearest store the trip result was 23,276 km, which for some reason google told me i needed to drive thru an aussie desert and kayak across the pacific ocean via japan :O

Posted by OldNewLegoFan in Australia, 09 Feb 2012 21:52

@phantom78 PMSL!! one day we will get one... :/ oh have i dreamed of standing infront of a PAB wall...

Posted by meyerc13 in United States, 09 Feb 2012 22:19

Yay! 99.3 miles from my house. Sure beats the 286 miles to the Mall of America store. So this should be open just in time for the LEGO Kids Fest in Milwaukee this summer. The bad news is that now shop.lego.com will be charging me sales tax. Oh well, that's a trade I'll take to get easier access to the LEGO store.

Posted by roc4lego in United States, 10 Feb 2012 05:39

Awesome! This is great news! I can't wait to go.

Posted by Nerd in United States, 10 Feb 2012 07:45

I have no Lego stores in my state!

Posted by vamproe in United States, 10 Feb 2012 13:05

about an hour and half away
wonder what they will have for a store opening give away.

For us it will be a once a month trip for the monthly give away

Posted by WolfboyTheMasterofTheSword in United States, 10 Feb 2012 17:48

@phantom78
LOL THAT IS HILARIOUS!!! are you gonna do it?

Posted by WolfboyTheMasterofTheSword in United States, 10 Feb 2012 17:49

@Murdoch17
Thanks My nearest one is 7 hours away in Ohio and the second is same length up in chicago.

Posted by legoboy3998 in United States, 11 Feb 2012 17:45

This is indeed awsome. I live in Milwaukee, and can't wait for it to open. I used to have to take the train to Chicago (2hr) to go to a LEGO Store, or go at Brickworld (also about 1.5hr). Now I can go whenever I want. Mayfair is about 15min away from where I live. I agree Mayfain is probably the best mall to put it in, as it is centrally loacated in the area.

Finally! I won't be missing those trips to the Cook County stores and having to pay the 10% pirate tax!

Regarding the Lego Kids Fest, I thought I was going to have to choose between Brick World and Kids Fest as it's the same weekend, but then I saw the admission prices...I'll choose to make the hour+ drive to Brick World than the 5 minute drive to Kids Fest.
