I think the troll looks good and I love that his massive club is brick-built. I think all the LOTR figs in that set look fantastic.

As for the Marvel stuff, Loki's helmet and staff are too big for me. I know they are really big in the movies and comics, but his accessories look a lot like the Mega Blocks figures that are available. Is that the final version of Thor? I thought he'd have a printed beard or at least stubble. Is he clean shaven in The Avengers movie? I thought he'd get a new hair for Black Widow as again, it's short in The Avengers, but looks like we're getting long hair from Iron Man 2. Still not sure how I feel about Iron Man.

The Star Wars stuff looks good so far. I wasn't expecting Oola to be so lime green.

Can't wait to see better pictures!

i don't know if anyone else noticed...but in "SirStevesGuide" one of the pictures of the star wars advent calendar catches the edge of the jabba's palace box...and it very clearly says that Ree-Yees is one of the minifigs...

Too keep it short,

Star wars, apart from Malevolance, all the sets look awesome and I'll definitely be getting

Super heroes, other than the figures rather disappointing

Monster fighters, Look better than expected so I may buy the hearse and a couple of others.

Lord of the rings, look awesome

Haven't seen the rest yet.

No, that's not Thor's face. He'll have a beard. LEGO gave the New York Toy Fair preliminary sets. Notice that Hulk doesn't have a face and Jabba the Hutt isn't going to look that way either.

Although they did give us the new minifigs for the Fury-Class Interceptor and they look fantastic! Darth Malgus is really cool looking as are the Sith troopers.

The Avengers was disappointing but I do like the Quinjet. It's pretty accurate to the comics but a lot smaller.

Star Wars - my response to these sets, as it has largely been for the last few years, is "what the heck, Lego?" I consider myself a pretty big Star Wars nerd, but I don't recognize half the ships they're putting out nowadays (mainly because I refuse to acknowledge the existence of SW:CW, I guess). I might consider picking up the Desert Skiff, it looks really nice. Jabba's Palace is also well-done, but as always with Star Wars seems overpriced. If it was $90 or even $100 I'd consider it.

Super Heroes - Eh. They'd better finish off these designs pretty quick, there's a ton of evidence that they're still prelims (check out Iron Man's obviously 3D-printed helmet and Thor's non-Thor-y face, as well as the lack of piece counts on many sets). If they can make some improvements between now and May I'll buy a few. I just wish they hadn't made these sets so closely tied to The Avengers - I feel like they could have been a lot better if we had sets that related to each individual movie as well as a couple from the Avengers. Might have to buy the helicopter set just because Deadpool is awesome.

Monster Fighters - Looking better and better, although still a little disjointed. I wish that for the Fighters themselves they could have picked one aesthetic and stuck with it, because the half-Dieselpunk/half-50's Greaser look isn't doing it for me. I would have preferred straight-up Dieselpunk. The monster figs look great though, and I'll probably pick up a couple sets just for them. I'm liking Lego's propensity for combining two old themes to make new action themes, since these sets seem to me to draw inspiration both from the Studios sets and from the insanity of Time Cruisers

LOTR - Looking good, but I wish they had put as much effort into some of the smaller sets (cough Uruk-Hai Army cough) as they put into the minifgures. Still, definitely going to buy Gandalf, Shelob (best Lego Giant Spider ever by a long shot), Moria, and possibly Helm's Deep. I appreciate the fact that they made these bigger than standard sets of their type, like that enormous piece count on Helm's Deep (1368!) in deference to the older audience these sets are going to attract.

Other Stuff - Good to know they're going to add another set to Heroica, it's a fun little gaming system. The continued success of Ninjago continues to baffle me, but to each their own I guess, it's not my fault if little kids have weird tastes. Here's hoping there's both more DC and more Marvel sets down the road so that they can make up for the deficiencies of the new first waves (DC needs more characters, Marvel needs better sets).

@Energyarrow: I respectfully disagree. I think "Helms Deep" looks great. I was worried that to render the keep in lego form would make it seem smaller or flimsy, but they put so many pieces in it I am very impressed with how it turned out. Very excited.

As far as I am concerned LEGO is dropping the ball on star wars. There are a couple decent sets but all in all they are clone wars trash. I read where someone else mentioned they wish LEGO would have done Jabbas palace more like a deathstar sized playset with rancor pit and all....I mean how do you even consider this set without a rancor? At the very minimum there should have been a rancor pit set released along with this years series. I am looking forward to the UCS B-wing though...a picture of it would have been nice :-). Oh, and it really irks me I have to buy that ridiculous gungan sub to get queen amidalla (sp) I dont remember her being in her parade dress on that sub in the movie. that and we know every single set will be overpriced...pathetic really.

Honestly I am really impressed with monster fighters..They have a cool goofyness about them like the recent space police did. The castle, hearse and train are friggin amazing! I cant wait to get my hands on these sets!

All in all there are a few scattered decent sets but other than monster fighters I am not wowed at all. I know some of these are prelim pics so hopefully they will be better upon release.

My thoughts on all of these:

Star Wras- This seems like the better wave of the 2 this year. Jabba's Palace, TOR sets, Gunan Sub, the planets, and the Skiff are impressing me the most. Those are really the only ones I care about (I'm not a big Clone Wars fan), and they look great. I still want to see Palpatine's Arrest and the UCS sets.

Marvel- Why all the hate? Yes, they look like prototypes. Remember Huw's report saying that the cosmic cube is a brick? The exclusive minifig giveaway were comic book versions of Capt. and Iron Man, so they just used the Comic Book style cap on the cycle. I don't get why people hate Iron Man's helmet. I'm in the minority of fans of it. Thor should hopefully have his Comic Con face. As for Hulk, we know he's gonna have a face. I think Loki should have his face modified a little. Hawkeye, Wolverine, Magneto, Black Widow, and Deadpool look great though. As for the sets, I'll judge the motorcycle when we see the rest of it. The Cosmic Cube Escape seems meh, as there are no exclusive minifigs, and it's mainly just a S.H.I.E.L.D Jeep. I'll get that when there's a sale. The X-Men set looks great, and the minifigs alone (just like the Superman set) are worth the $20. Hulk's Helicarrier looks like a great add-on for The Batcave/Hoth Echo Base, and at a whopping 700 peices, there must be something special. The Quinjet looks great, and it will be my way of getting Iron Man. So overall, the sets are ok, and as of now, I'm only picking up the Xmen set, Hulk's breakout, and the Quinjet (still waiting to judge the Capt and Spiderman set). I'm still curious on what these builders are with the sets. Overall with Superheroes, DC needs a wider range of new sets that aren't Batman remakes, while Marvel needs to improve on a couple.

LOTR- Burn this theme with fire. Then again, I'm not a LOTR fan.

Monster Fighters- this looks like a great theme with great potential. The minifigs and range of Glow in the dark bricks alone make this theme worth it. The Vampire Castle looks great and can be used to add-on to Hogwarts.

Other- I'll be picking up The Battle of Hoth, and I'm most likely going to pick up Phineas and Ferb due to my love of the show. I'm not really impressed with Ninjago this year, Hero Factory depends on what the hero looks like, and I'm not a fan of Friends because I'm a boy (I'm not talking about the show. The show is great).

As much fun as the Monster Fighters theme could be, it just looks so all over the place. After some really coherent (style/design-wise) themes recently like Alien Conquest and Atlantis (even Pharaoh's Quest), these look more like themes from a few years back that just weren't particularly memorable or great designs. That plane, for example, looks absolutely horrible compared to the biplane in Pharaoh's Quest.. I don't know. Apart from the cool monster minifigures (the Swamp Thing looks amazing) the only set that really grabs my attention is the Vampire Castle.

By the way, a question.. Now that these sets are being unveiled, will LEGO start putting out official images of these upcoming sets? It seems kinda stupid of LEGO to let everyone judge these sets based on blurry amateur shots/videos.. They should just get some HQ promo shots out there A.S.A.P.

Upon further browsing around various images:

LOTR: All of these sets look fantastic to me. My original plan was just to get all the sets to have a complete Fellowship, but Helm's Deep's Theodin and Haldir look really good. All the mordor, moria and uruk hai orcs are looking great. I love the berserker guy in Helm's Deep who blows up the wall.

Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic sets look pretty cool. Darth Malgus looks amazing! And the Sith Troopers are cool, too. But $90? Man, that is pricey. Why does Luke have a tan chest instead of all black? I know some toys and models of ROTJ Luke have been a tan/grey chest, but he's always looked all black to me in the movies. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait until a Death Star II set to see a Jedi Luke in all black, or maybe with a flap down on his chest. I prefer how they did Boba Fett's gun in Slave I over the Desert Skiff. Also not a fan of the new Gammorrean guard, how it's all one piece. He looks too action figure with the paldrons. Leia Bousch and Skiff Lando look great!

Monster Fighters: Cool idea, kind of meh on the execution. New zombie! That's cool! I don't like the werewolf though. I prefer the Collectible Minifigure wolfman. Swamp Monster looks great though! Vampire Castle looks cool. I hope they tweak the Mad Scientist a little bit to make him different from the Collectible Minifig version.

Marvel: Wolverine, Magneto and Deadpool look good. Did you see that the minifigs that came with the lanyards have Iron Man with a printed minihead rather than a removable helmet? And the Cap America looks more like from the Captain America movie with black legs and arms rather than The Avengers. Unless he's a Winter Soldier version of Capt. America?

The Marvel sets look spectacular. If anyone is wondering, yes most of the figures are preliminary but the ships, vehicles and locations themselves are all finished products.

@ Thomson & Thomson: I listed the 4 prices I found in the pictures above. The pictures showing the prices of Helm's Deep, Weathertop, and the Uruk-Hai Army aren't focused enough on the info card for me to read the prices of those sets. But the other four are above (in USD).

Here's proof that the Marvel minifigs are prototypes. When Brick Show removed Iron Man's helmet, it was the same face as Thor and Loki. The minifigs aren't final, but the sets are.

Love the sets. Got a view of the new creator house set too. Kind of like the hillside house with the different colors but the water and sand color bricks are a great touch. Can't wait to pick that one up and I LOVE the monster sets. Really remind me of the old "Studios" sets from years ago.

Very reasonable, nothing that's anywhere near a Star Wars markup except on Weathertop and Gandalf.

@18000: Thank you so much, that is wonderful. I am happy that Helm's Deep is priced at 130, that is the same price the "expensive" set (the castle) for Harry Potter was. Well, it was the expensive set until Diagon Alley. When I saw the pictures of Helm's Deep I feared that the set would be more than that and much closer to $150.

I was hoping Weathertop would be closer to 49.99, it doesn't have the peice count the other sets do, I guess with the figures they marked it higher. Honestly, I disagree that the Gandalf Arrives is overpriced, it is pretty reasonable for two figures, a horse, with bricks to make the wagon. I might wish for it to be closer to $10, but with the licensing, 12 is probably more likely. However, Weathertop definitely is overpriced. I will probably buy it anyway, which is why they can get away with charging that amount.

Gotta' say, the theme I am most impressed with is.... Monster Fighters! It's so refreshing to have such a creative and interesting theme, that isn't licensed.
I really like Star Wars as well, and City really impressed me.

Starwars is surprisingly great... in fact, the more they carry the Clone Wars side of it the more I'm interested in gaining the minifigures. The Clone Wars TV series is simply a work of art. I bought the bluerays because it's something a starwars fan can't go without.

Lord of the Rings still knocks every other set out of the arena. Sure I have a petty complaint here and there, but none of that matters if I'm buying all the sets anyway.

LEGO City. That is pretty much the only kind of sets that i buy. The new Mining Theme will be a welcome addition.

LEGO Star Wars. Meh. Not super impressive.

LEGO Lord of the Ring. Well its a little cool that they are doing it.

LEGO Avengers. I must say that i Really like the truck, might buy it and put the minifigs on my minifig holder. Iron Man's head is a little to big for the rest of his body.

LEGO Monster Fighters. They are not really to impressive and look a little wierd.

LEGO Ninjago. I only like the engines on some of the trucks, i put them in my heavily modified truck (aka Super Speeder)

Well i think thats about it...

Hey, I just noticed something. In The Cosmic Cube Escape, Iron Man is wearing the Mark VI, but in the QUinjet, he's wearing the Mark VII.

@Ethanator567 - I fail to see why you bothered to list your opinions about the other themes when you pretty much shot down 5/6 of them. Saying you sound like a wet blanket is probably the best way I can describe your comment aside from pointing out the obvious fact you're exclusively interested in City stuff. Most like to read the opinions of "general Lego collectors" and don't ask for the feedback of someone totally disinterested in everything else they only deem "worth a mention".

I mean, it's almost laughable that you went to the length to add "it's a LITTLE cool" to your comment about Lego doing Lord of the Rings. Sorry, but nobody is really that interested in hearing about how you dismiss themes at a whim simply because it doesn't fit in your used-car-lot of a City collection.

As Ethanator is still a relatively new member of the community, perhaps we should take the opportunity to welcome him/her and appreciate his/her interest in city. I know that since joining this site my lego interests have expanded, so hopefully his/hers will as well. But we won't have that opportunity if new users leave in their second week. Perhaps the rundown Ethanator provided was his/her initial foray into new themes.

This is why i dont talk... ok? I might buy something else if it really interested me, but so far none of these wow me in the long run. For a while i was interested in powerminers but now thats gone too. I might go a little different direction if lego came out something really cool, i usally buy creater sets because of their minifig scale house and maybe some of the cars. Im so sorry that i gave my opinion... im going dark.

These sets look great, LOTR and SW especially (along with Monster Fighters), the Marvel sets look awesome! Though I don't see the point of Lego not showing their finalised minifigs and box art from the Nuremberg toy fair. Those Avengers art on the boxes in minifigure form look epic! The Uruk Hai set looks to be £30, if Legos ratio of a pound to one dollar has anything to say about it.

@Plasmodium, if you are referring to the off-color Mandalorian on the right with the blank helmet and the black lightsaber on HothBrick's site, that's Pre Vizsla (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pre_Vizsla) with his dark saber (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darksaber_(lightsaber)). I agree, I hope that helmet is a preliminary, but I am really excited about the darksaber. It's definitely different, and true to the character.

I'm definitely gonna get the Malevolence and the Gungan Sub, and the Desert Skiff if I can manage it. My only question is, how much is Jabba's Palace, as well as the Malevolence? I'd assume $120 USD each?
