Reminder: vote for this Cuusoo model!

  • Reminder: vote for this Cuusoo model!

Posted by Huw, 14 Feb 2012 14:43. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Eight days ago we asked you to vote for this western-themed Cuusoo model. Nearly every other LEGO fan site did the same and almost two thousand of you voted. The model is now over 1/3rd of the way to getting 10,000 votes!

If you haven't voted yet, read on and please do so...

The Western theme from 1996/7 was incredibly popular but also very short lived. Wouldn't it be great if it were to make a return? And wouldn't it also be great if it were to consist of modular buildings that were designed to fit together just like the current modulars?

This Cuusoo submission by Eurobricks member marshal_banana is exactly that and it looks superb. You can see more pictures at Eurobricks.

Brickset is teaming up with Eurobricks to see if we, the online LEGO community, can get it to LEGO Review status at Cuusoo by achieving 10,000 supporters. If the Minecraft community can do it for their chosen model, so can we!

All you have to do is go to the Cuusoo site and click on the big green 'support' button. If you don't already have an account there you'll need to create one but it only takes a minute or so to do.

This site gets 400,000 visitors a month, so if just 1 in every 40 of you vote for it, we'll reach 10,000 votes in no time. What are you waiting for -- VOTE NOW -- and let's see the 'Brickset effect' again in action! Remember, anyone 13 and over can vote.

Lego Western is truly one of the best TLG has ever produced. It is classical , but amazingly done through sets. I wolud like to get it back.

Voted!

I'd love to vote, but their registration form's validation script is preventing me from registering. Web development at its worst!

Too bad I can't vote again! Re-posted on Facebook.

My vote is in. I am ashamed to admit but I didnt have a clue what Cuusoo even was until I read this.
That model is amazing though and I would definitely buy it if it were made. Not sure about some of the other ideas on there, that Jedi temple one clearly hasn't had much thought put into it.

xcrossx: I've been introduced to Cuusoo through brickset as well, and I agree with you. While some of the sets made by fans are truly excellent, some are just frustrating. I am most frustrated by the people just posting pictures and saying to "make this," or taking someone else's design/idea up and saying "found this, please support and make this." However, I like real fans and lego designers putting their own designs up and supporting them, cuusoo is a great idea, I just wish the site was more discriminating in only allowing people to post their own lego creations.

Glad you posted this again. I'm surprised that even with the backing of some of the top LEGO sites in the world it only has 3,500 votes.

^Seriously, I'm kinda disappointed in the LEGO community haha. Minecraft got their project in 2 days, and I thought LEGO had a much larger following. I guess its cause we're so spread in our interests, maybe some people don't even want this to make it to the review stage cause they never liked the western theme?

Posted by OracabessaGirl in Canada, 14 Feb 2012 16:43

I would love to see this produced by LEGO. Even though I'm not a Western fan, I would definitely buy these buildings.

Question:
What happens if this theme never reaches 10,000 (I think it will eventually) and LEGO decides to release a NON-modular western theme. Does the creator of the MOC that we're supporting receive any monetary credit?

Based on the themes we've seen over the past few years, it's entirely possible that a Western or a Roman theme is on the drawing boards.... think of Collectible Minifigs as hints to the future.

I'd like if the site, Cuusoo, wouldn't allow bad MOC's made by children to be put up. It makes finding good MOC's to support a chore...

Posted by kwilder in United States, 14 Feb 2012 18:07

@Nightshroud99: While I generally agree with you that the kid ones aren't as high quality, I do like the idea of them being able to post and get feedback and feel positively about building (even though I haven't voted for those sets, I don't think). And I would much rather see 10 "bad MOC's made by children" than 10 pictures of people and tv shows saying "build this" as at least the kids are taking the time to build where as the others are just posting pictures and not at all building a set to "support." But I agree that finding sets that would appeal to me, that I would want to support (I don't vote unless I would buy, so I don't vote).

Posted by Rolyat24 in United States, 14 Feb 2012 21:44

I'm not into this particular theme, but I still voted. Even though I'll never buy it, I think that it's cool that something fans make can turn into a real product. I hope more ideas are on the way, so please keep posting about new sets from Lego Cuusoo!

It might be nice if Cuusoo were setup more as a forum (at least for the initial stages of models). Those who just wanted to share ideas could share, and viewers could submit feedback. The designers/submitters could then improve them based on the feedback and make bad things good or good things great. Once a model became "great" and got enough positive support the Lego company could review its legitimacy (to rule out the lower-level MOCs and pictures, if any made it that far) and then go to a voting stage (which I think would benefit from fewer required votes, as it used to be, because of the additional preliminary steps). This would also allow combination of similar ideas (I think there are a number of Back to the Future projects, for example), which would also minimize the division of votes between like projects.

Cuusoo IS a trial, and it might be nice if it were revised. That said, the above is merely one person's ideas for how it could be improved.

I had a feeling this would happen...
This is a great study in traditional news versus social news or rather social networking. The minecraft votes seemed to benefit from a focused social network, commercial, viral, flash mob directive of a large and concentrated group. Here, we "stumble" upon these directives and notices for casual reading be it here, eurobricks, toysnbricks, brothers-bricks, etc so the format of news and the platform (social versus casual) may dictate the effectiveness of the directive.

I thought by now that we'd have at least 5000 votes in less than a week for this project, but the number of unique visitors doesn't seem to add up. I admit I visit this site, brickset, maybe 10, 15 times per day alone looking for toy updates and I check the other sites in the same frequency each day as well. So perhaps there is only a 3000 or 4000 passionate/unique data set of this group of fans aware of this if not advocating for it. On the other hand, maybe the number of registered users was manipulated (multiple user id's on Cuusoo) to drive the marketing objectives of Mojang (think if Zynga was to promote a farmville Lego Cuusso for the benefit of their IPO). Great Marketing Work by Mojang to get Lego to advertise for them for free.

Anyhow, my prediction: By this time next week, this project will have not hit 5000 votes because the number of focused, unique users (across all participating blogs, i.e. we share users) does not exceed 4000-6000 advocates.
If anyone is close enough and can tweet Ashton Kutcher for a little help with this Western project, we'd be much obliged..

It would help if the site would let me sign up...

Posted by shannon26 in Australia, 15 Feb 2012 03:16

Would love to vote , but have tried both this time and last week and I still cant sign up, not validating first email. Frustrating.

^^ @ copperwonder96, interesting points. I'm a little surprised and disappointed that the project hasn't gained more votes by now. Thinking about it, there may be another contributing factor...

Video game merchandise is big business, there's literally tons of that stuff around so there must be an appetite for it and Minecraft players are probably no exception. What they had the opportunity to do was vote to have a well respected and much loved toy company produce some quality merchandise for a game they love, why wouldn't they jump at that chance? For us, it's a little a different, since we are voting to have a great looking set produced when in fact, we already have hundreds of sets to choose from in this years range alone and many of those are also great sets, it's just a a bit more blasé to us.

Imagine if this were the other way around, and we lived in a world where no Lego-based video games existed, now imagine there was a site where we could vote on video game ideas and someone suggested Lego Star Wars, I bet that would gain 10,000 votes in a heartbeat.

Anyway, I really hope that this project reaches 10,000 votes!

CAN VOTE. WON'T VOTE.

I'd like to see the Western theme return but I don't think I can vote for this particular set. Cuusoo has the problem other Lego projects have - nice idea and an interesting project for internet users to mess about with but is it a good business idea? Will it make money?

If I vote for this I am telling Lego I would buy this set should it be produced. If this Cuusoo project receives 10,000+ votes how many of the voters will actually buy this no doubt expensive set? To be completely honest I won't. It will be pricey as there are many elements in it and I'd rather spend my Lego budget on other sets. Yes, I'd like to see the Western theme return but not in a huge modular building based sub-theme. I don't think Cuusoo is being abused, just that folks aren't thinking about what it means to propose a project and/or vote.

How many Emerald Nights were sold by Lego? What percentage of these buyers would have liked to buy extra coaches singly? I would say a very high percentage, Lego collector or not. I see there is a Cuusoo project for a single coach but the Emerald Night Set is now (sadly) out of production. A great use of Cuusoo but perhaps too late.

I can't see a future for Cuussoo in its current form. Will producing Minecraft Lego make money? It got the votes. Minecraft Lego and online game Minecraft are two completely different things... Sadly, I can't see the cash coming in.

In a nutshell - I'd love to vote for this project but I'd be lying becuase I have no intension of buying it. How many Minecraft voters are the same I wonder?

I'm not sure how the site works. I would love to get instructions to build the Stage Coach. Just the thing to swap Blue bricks for, and use for my Harry Potter world.
Sadly, I haven't taken the time to try to "design it myself". I don't know if I'm just lazy, or unskilled. It is always easier to start with someone elses design. [I've got lots of blue bricks, and the King's Carriage Kit, to use as a building base.]

A lot of people double vote on projects...so if two thousand of the people reading this voted two or three times...

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2012 03:30

^How, multiple accounts? I Can't vote again on something i'm already supporting. If you could I suspect people would have already spammed creations into 1000s of votes already.
