    853378: LEGO City Accessory Pack
    City/Fire, 2012
    More details...
    ©2012 LEGO Group

If you need extra troops to fight that raging forest fire, you can now buy this firemen battle pack in LEGO brand stores for $14.99, which seems a little steep for 4 minifigs.

But, buyer beware: "Components made in Denmark, Hungary, Mexico and China" so you may end up with Chinese made figs, although given the number of sources this may not be the case.

    Thanks wiredforsound for the news.

Still irks me the Wildland firefighters are wearing respirators. I don't know about Europe, but that's not how it is in the 'States. Out of the tons of fires I've been on I have never seen one respirator...

But I suppose I could just remove them. ; )

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 25 Feb 2012 14:23

At that price I'd say you're better off just buying a few 4427's instead.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 25 Feb 2012 14:26

^^I don't know about the accuracy of respirators on firemen per situation, but personally I've always liked the way the respirator fits to the visor and how the hat fits perfectly over the top of them. The whole contraption is one of my favorite minifigure accessories and is why I like firefighter minifigures. So even though it might not be accurate I'm glad they put it there.

Posted by omnius in United Kingdom, 25 Feb 2012 14:35

That's an... interesting price. If this showed up in the UK, given the usual £1=$1 conversion, for just £1 more I could buy 4 x 4427 sets, and everyone would have a quad bike.

Posted by Gandalf1 in United States, 25 Feb 2012 14:59

Well, build-a-minifig packs are $14.99, an they only have 3 minifigures, and no burning tree branch.

Posted by WolfboyTheMasterofTheSword in United States, 25 Feb 2012 15:22

I want a policeman one now but actually its a pretty good deal if you do some cash conversions.

Posted by beegeedee in Ireland, 25 Feb 2012 15:39

I wouldn't risk it. Picked up the alien conquest one and the minifigs were really poor quality, loose limbs ad the likes. Really not worth the money/risk.

Posted by AETerry in United States, 25 Feb 2012 15:44

I'll skip on this one. I was considering the Alien Conquest pack at one point, but the LEGO store associate pointed out just buy two of the small Alien Conquest sets and you get the same figures, plus vehicles for the price and then could spend another $20 on a slightly larger set for the civilian and an Alien saucer vehicle.

Posted by legoninja0701 in United States, 25 Feb 2012 15:53

$ 15!!!

Posted by jedifireman219 in United States, 25 Feb 2012 16:18

To the first poster. Most firefighters in the US do not wear full scba at wildland fires. Instead, they wear filtering masks or wet handkerchiefs. But believe me, there were some grass fires where i wished i had a full breathing apparatus! I like this pack. It means I can switch out all my fiefighters to the new style gear.

Posted by bellybutton290 in United Kingdom, 25 Feb 2012 16:37

Waste of time, too expensive and no little vechile or anything like the police one from last year oh and to top it off more chinese quality control (or lack of) just for good measure.

Posted by wunztwice in United States, 25 Feb 2012 16:46

@ jedifireman219:

After multiple seasons I still rather just wear a neck shroud if I have to, but even just those are stinkin' hot. Battling blazes in 110f heat would be even tougher wrapped in all that face gear.

I do like the combo, it's just not wildland firefighting.

Posted by Storm-Reaper in United States, 25 Feb 2012 16:57

You should just buy a couple of the $6.99 ones in my opinion.

Posted by murphquake in United States, 25 Feb 2012 17:28

Build a minifigure packs are 3 figures for $9.99 in NYC (Rockerfeller Center & Queens Center Mall Lego Stores). They rarely have good accessories, but today I was able to get the Punk Rocker, Indian Chief and Rapper from the minifigure collections but without their accessories, just bodies and hair... threw in some circular saws and an ax for good measure.

On the public safety side of the conversation, I'm not a FF, and all my fire suppression knowledge is based on working closely with FDNY for the 10 years I've been in EMS, but there are hundreds of studies showing that firefighters are at increased risk for many diseases, with a high likelihood of correlation to smoke exposure. Why aren't our bravest in wildland settings as well protected as those involved in structural firefighting? I understand there's a fundamental difference in the jobs and that there's less manmade material in a wildland fire, but I wonder if it's the best practice for those involved. Stay safe!

Posted by wunztwice in United States, 25 Feb 2012 18:47

@ murphyquake:

In all likelihood it is a matter of pragmatics. There is no way I am going to hike all day miles uphill in 100+ heat with my PPE, backpack with gear and food, drinking water for a full day, and either a chainsaw (not a tiny circular saw, like in the pack) or a bladder bag (5 gal water=45 lbs) WITH a respirator on. Nothing would get done on the fire line, we would all be heat stroking with a facemask on. Plus the primary task of constructing fireline (bent over scraping earth) would be made much harder. We aren't huffing the direct smoke the whole time, either. The future may prove me wrong, but it's just not worth it.

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 25 Feb 2012 20:38

I with yys4u. I love the firefighters and their tanks/breathers. It's absolutely one of my favourite LEGO accessories and I would hate to see them go in favour of a more realistic approach. If they're not realistic enough for you, you can always just take them off. Better to get them than not get them, I say.

Posted by SupaSteela17 in United States, 25 Feb 2012 21:29

I wouldn't get it, $15 no

Posted by UtarEmpire in United States, 25 Feb 2012 21:39

Funny comment, but seriously, enough with the Chinese-made fearmongering.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 25 Feb 2012 21:59

Heh, funny isn't it? A Star Wars Licensed battle pack with four exclusive minifigs and a set is two dollars cheaper! :P

Posted by LegoCity578 in United States, 25 Feb 2012 22:27

For $9.99? Yes. For $14.99? NO.

Chinese plastic? Oh please...

How many of you who are unhappy with the quality of mini figs have taken the time to email or call Lego and let them know? Quality will only improve if we make sure we let Lego know what we're getting is not acceptable!

Posted by kevinnowhere in Hong Kong, 25 Feb 2012 23:29

Please stop bring racism to Lego, it is saddening. Yes, tell Lego that u are not satisfied with the product u got, but not complaining any country before u even know for sure from where it is made.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 25 Feb 2012 23:49

I didn't see those, but I did see new Star Wars Magnet sets and a new Ninjago magnet set.

Posted by Ethanator567 in United States, 26 Feb 2012 00:05

at least they are not glued down like the magnets. at least u can really use these in your city!

I find it funny that the posts on this subject have turned to talking about the accuracy of the mini fig to real wild land fire fighter.

I have worked for 12 summers as a wild land firefighter here in Canada and we also do not wear BA (breathing apparatus) or anything worth while to protect our lungs. There are bandannas of a sort called an urban bandit that has a charcoal filter built in but it does little to protect my lungs and has been discontinued from the government gear. Now all we get are those sad little filter masks you use when painting.

I do agree with wunztwice that It would not make sense nor be practical for the current BA system in the bush. For that matter the mini figs are not true to the wild land fire fighter.

I wish I had some sort of compensation however for the damage all the smoke has done to my lungs over the years, we DO breath in alot of smoke over years of work and we have no way to prove the damage was done via the job. They do however monitor my hearing so I am assured they will happily pay for a hearing aid in the future if needed. Pretty sad considering lung damage would be the obvious.

Anyone got a real job for me perhaps in lego..... I would love to get out of the wild land fire career.

Perhaps lego needs a wild land fire fighting consultant??

Kevin it's not racism against China, it's that we don't like the quality of China made minfigs. And not buying products made in China has nothing to do with racism, it's some like I don't like buying products from there and would rather get things made elsewhere to help their economy

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 26 Feb 2012 01:38

Oh quiet Kevinnowhere man. Some don't like the quality of some Chinese made products. Too sensitive for you? Oh poor baby...get over it.

@fuelbreak...god bless you and your work. Hope you live a long life...to enjoy family and Lego (in that order...;)

On the price for the 'battle-pack'...sound about right. 4 figs....about $3.00 each, then $2.00-$3.00 more for large flame piece, small flame piece (one flame/one water), foliage and round brick. Plus accessories for all the figures. I'd say fair price.

Posted by murphquake in United States, 26 Feb 2012 02:39

@fuelbreak, exactly what I was getting at... and it sucks. Luckily for me I just sit on the street keeping a nice diesel engine warm for 12 hours at a time and making sure the air quality is minimal.

@wunztwice, well understood, just wish there was a way to protect FFs better.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 26 Feb 2012 03:46

@kevinnowhere, please read earlier news posts on ths subject before accusing people of 'racism'.

Quality has nothing to do with where products are made or who makes them. But the fact remains, for whatever reason, that LEGO -- in particluar minifigs -- made in China is inferior in quality to that made elsewhere.

LEGO has chosen to accept this inferior quality and it is right for me to point out that, for certain products, the old company motto 'only the best is good enough' may not apply so that those that do care about quality can avoid buying them.

For those in the UK: I picked up a pack of these in the Lego store at Bluewater yesterday at the princely sum of £9.99, so slightly better than the usual £1 = $1 conversion

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 26 Feb 2012 10:31

I have to admit that I'm a sucker for battlepacks so I'm sure I'll be getting this one too....on Black Friday. :o)

I like this cause I don't like the new fire sets but I love the minifigs.

Posted by wiredforsound in United States, 29 Feb 2012 16:33

@Huw - You might want to add this set to the Battle Pack view by updating the name of the set to something like City Firefighter Battle Pack
