UCS R2-D2 revealed on YouTube

  • UCS R2-D2 revealed on YouTube

Somewhat earlier than anticipated, given its May release date, the designer video for 10225 R2-D2 has been published by LEGO on YouTube.

Update: The video was uploaded too early: the 'Brickset effect' has occured and it's been marked as private. Thankfully someone has re-uploaded a low-res version of it. The cat's out the bag now and the internet makes it impossible to put it back in...

Wow, this looks amazing! it will undoubtedly be beyond my affordable limit but it really is a brilliant model!

Posted by brixton in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 12:17

What a wonderful model. I can't wait for the Haunted House.

Posted by flump in United Kingdom, 13 Mar 2012 12:17

^£150.

Posted by Carnigee77 in United States, 13 Mar 2012 12:17

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! The only problem is price.... its gonna be expensive.

Posted by brixton in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 12:24

Montreal's Habitat 67 might become a future LEGO model.

Amazing, pity they tried to add value with the same old R2 minifig.

Posted by monkeyhanger in France, 13 Mar 2012 12:32

Retractable third leg? That's what she said!

Posted by shaase in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 12:40

Very cool, but they forgot the retractable rocket boosters so R2 can fly. They should release a accessory kit that lets you add lights and sounds (similar to those sets from the late 80s).

Gonna look great on my Desk :-D

"(Thanks to my homies in the forum for the news)", that made me smile, after the recent news post! Nice set, but like all UCS it is out of my price range. I find it hard to buy Star Wars System sets, let alone a giant R2-D2. I think with a May release the UCS B-Wing will be a winter release so the two don't clash that much.

Posted by Mequel De Vaughn in United States, 13 Mar 2012 13:23

R2- D2 is the man...or I mean robot. This set and the Jabba the Hut set are two of the best ever. I also can't wait for the Darth Malgus and Satelle Shan minifigs from SWTOR. Great year for lego.

Posted by voypro in United States, 13 Mar 2012 13:23

Does that small R2 D2 have a gray dome? Is it an exclusive?

(man, these two designers seem to dislike each other a bit.)

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 13 Mar 2012 13:36

I think it's an amazing kit. Should be a blast to build.
Any guesses on price?

On a side note...two pretty funny designers...made it one of the more entertaining Lego videos.

Posted by AllanSmith in New Zealand, 13 Mar 2012 13:40

New Zealand price is $NZ 359.99. (same as new Town Hall).

Posted by Farmer_John in United States, 13 Mar 2012 13:42

Awesome...more money to spend.

Looks nice!

Posted by brix in United Kingdom, 13 Mar 2012 14:08

@ voypro - its been like that for a while now :)

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 13 Mar 2012 14:18

HUW, the video is now private. Might want to edit the description.

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 14:24

^ Damn, I knew I should of have downloaded the video just to be safe. Why does LEGO always tease us like this? Upload the video and make it public for 3 hours, and then make the video private.

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 13 Mar 2012 14:28

@rankell5566 I know. I was in the middle of watching it when this popped up: "This video is private." Man, sometimes LEGO ticks me off.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 13 Mar 2012 14:32

The brickset effect strikes again...

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 13 Mar 2012 14:40

I'm failing to view the video. Dang it

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 14:45

Gosh it's private!!!

Posted by Graysmith in Sweden, 13 Mar 2012 14:51

I hope someone downloaded the video and will reupload it.

Posted by adello25 in United States, 13 Mar 2012 14:55

Good thing I was able to pull it up on my phone at work before it became private!

Posted by erbse2000 in Germany, 13 Mar 2012 14:57

Search for lego 10225 on youtube, you'll find it there.

Actually I did not plan to get this one, but after the video... my wallet started to cry badly.

Posted by jarolo145 in United States, 13 Mar 2012 14:57

please tell me somebody downloaded it

Just wonder how many pieces does it have?

Posted by TWP in Netherlands, 13 Mar 2012 16:20

I have once talked to designer Mike! Cool that he designed this.

Posted by Stacy in Australia, 13 Mar 2012 16:29

"Never Before Seen" hey? :P

Posted by kangojack in Australia, 13 Mar 2012 17:23

Not seen before I have.
Intriguing this build is.
This model I will purchase.
(aka Yoda)

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 13 Mar 2012 18:12

Hit - fantastic model, wonderful detail.

Miss - power functions, movement, working hologram (ok that's pushing it)

Posted by woony2 in United Kingdom, 13 Mar 2012 18:22

I've been waiting for this for a while now. Already planning the upgrades, jet packs for the legs, extendable antenna/eye piece from dome, lightsaber in a compartment, drinks tray, to start with. Might even think about a second one in a different colour, perhaps black/grey.
Any news on release date, I'm guessing May the fourth.

Posted by grogall in Germany, 13 Mar 2012 18:38

Here is the HD video for the next 5 days!

Posted by Nightshroud99 in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 19:20

Ok I saw the video, this is a must buy for me.

Who wouldn't want a UCS scale model of R2-D2 ???

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 19:39

^^ Thanks for the link 'grogall'. This time around, I downloaded the video just to be safe.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 13 Mar 2012 19:51

So... USD price? If it's above $120, (which it probably is) I'm not going for it.

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 19:55

HD Version is now up. Special thanks to Grogall!

Posted by ShatteredGnome in United States, 13 Mar 2012 20:10

I actually am very impressed with this model, lots of intricate details and awesomeness. But I probably can't afford it, because I'm guessing it's going to have a price tag of about $199.99 given its part count is about 2,100 pieces.

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 13 Mar 2012 20:26

I'm glad I got round to setting my Youtube channel (Brick Fanatics) up today. I was quick enough to download as I suspected it would be pulled, will remember to upload in HD for you next time ;)

Posted by zjygkmatt in United States, 13 Mar 2012 21:46

@TBOC It's most likely going to be $200 or above

Posted by QuagsireQing in Canada, 13 Mar 2012 22:07

I'm so glad it's coming out so soon. I'll add this to my list, along with Town Hall, Sydney Opera House and Logging Truck, or sets to buy when I head into the States in May!

Posted by rmarkworth in Germany, 14 Mar 2012 03:53

Very nice.
Actually the first UCS Character I really want to have!
Much better than Darth Maul, Yoda or Grevious.

Posted by TechnicMan in United Kingdom, 14 Mar 2012 08:10

Nice! Looks better than I thought it would. A definite purchase.

And just to balance up the comments from the Town Hall video, the young guy in the hat is very easy on the eye!

Posted by Joefish in United Kingdom, 14 Mar 2012 10:18

Much wantage.
Very nice. Shame the dome isn't a SNOT sphere, and there's no beeper, but nothing that can't be fixed after-purchase with some spare bits and a trip to Bear Factory. First one to fit PF motors wins..?

Posted by TechnicMan in United Kingdom, 14 Mar 2012 10:59

Yes, an R2-D2 sound/light brick would have been a great addition. Although may have bumped up the price... even more.

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 14 Mar 2012 13:00

Mehhh, really nice detail, but I am guessing it is gonna' be over the $200 price mark which is pushing it for me... Make it PF and it would have been a no-brainer, but it's just an R2-D2 with a retractable third leg and a dome that has way too many studs for my liking. I think I'll wait for the Haunted House, thank you very much.

Posted by ngclarkiv in United States, 14 Mar 2012 14:22

Where's the lightsaber that shoots out of R2's head?? Lol

Posted by bellybutton290 in United Kingdom, 15 Mar 2012 05:10

I guessing it'll be something like £189.99 or maybe even £200 in the UK. I actually don't like it much, mainly because of the head.

Posted by Aquapolis in United States, 15 Mar 2012 09:10

Gonna buy one and stick it on top of my car.

Posted by Denver_80203 in United States, 15 Mar 2012 10:22

I like the brown tubes. Not sure I've seen them before like that. I suspect they'll show up else where (probably already have and I don't know where). The extendable control key seems a little weak to me.
