    7641: City Corner

    More details...

Brickset moderator Dr. Sinister found this set in his local TRU today in the south of England, much earlier than anticipated. You can view pictures in his flickr stream and read a review at his Tabletown site.

Update 25th Apr: My local branch, Portsmouth, had 6 of the new City sets: 7638 Tow Truck, 7641 City Corner, 7642 Garage, 7639 Camper, 7686 Helicopter Transport and 8402 Sports Car. I bought the camper and sports car. Sadly, the other really interesting one, 7747 Wind Turbine Transport was not there. (Update 6pm: my Brickish friends have been in that branch and cleared out the City Corner sets -- sorry!)

Posted by just2good in United States, 24 Apr 2009 21:21

Dr.S, did you find any other 2009 summer sets?

Posted by BionicleBOOM in United States, 24 Apr 2009 21:34

The Pepper Roni spinoff kid has little legs. The skateboard is as big as he is! Otherwise, neat-looking set!

Posted by Doctor Sinister in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2009 02:45

Didn't see any other new sets at all - it was really odd to see just this one on the shelf.

Huw, ok, a bit far from norfolk, nothing in our toys r us, i assume they will be available to buy soon on www.lego.com, just someone in your toys r us putting them out too early.

Posted by just2good in United States, 25 Apr 2009 09:43

Please! I hope there at my TRU in Florida.

Posted by Yoda 56 in United States, 25 Apr 2009 11:48

Posted by legobagel in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2009 11:50

what toys r us did you find them at

Posted by Doctor Sinister in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2009 13:50

They have so far been spotted in Basingstoke and Portsmouth stores - not sure about others at the moment.

Dr. S.

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2009 15:56

PRICES! what were the prices?
If they're spotted in Birmingham then they must be everywhere else- good old Brum never seems to have anything early. We did have a load of Farm sets though, in February.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2009 16:21

I didn't note the prices but they are approximately:

7638 Tow Truck = £12
7641 City Corner = £45
7642 Garage = £65
7639 Camper = £14
7686 Helicopter Transport = not sure
8402 Sports Car = £8

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2009 17:12

Thanks. The garage is quite a bit but City Corner looks quite low.

Posted by Doctor Sinister in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2009 19:55

The Helicopter Transport was £29.99.

Dr. S.

Posted by indyjones in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2009 07:56

5 of each in my TRU branch, Swindon.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 26 Apr 2009 09:31

Thanks Dr. S. So the USA prices for the sets will be...

7638 Tow Truck = $13
7641 City Corner = $60-$80 (Guess)
7642 Garage = $90
7639 Camper = $16
7686 Helicopter Transport = $40 (Guess)
8402 Sports Car = $10

Got 7638, 7641, 7642, 7686 and 8402 in tru in ipswich today, they had loads

Posted by keithkram in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2009 13:20

Prices in TRU Ipswich were

8402 - £6.99
7638 - £8.99
7641 - £44.99
7642 - £64.99
7686 - £29.99

The www.lego.com prices should be less as these don't include the vat reductions in the normal lego prices

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2009 14:01

I also reckon TRU gave them a small price hike...
keithran, could you tell us about the garage? We haven't had a review yet.

Glad to see that LEGO mixed in the old flat smooth hair with the new more detailed hair.

Posted by aquafreak125 in United Kingdom, 27 Apr 2009 13:06

I wonder if it is in the watford branch..........
I wish they had the bionicle and star wars sets early

Posted by legobazooka in United Kingdom, 27 Apr 2009 13:50

Southampton TRU has 7642, 7641 and 8402 but one less of each than it did before I visited ;-)

Set 7642 - City Garage - More Hi Res Pictures

One link takes you to them all http://keithkram.co.uk/Reviews/7642/7642.html

I have only done the first instruction booklet so far.

You will see there is a good selection of parts, I could only spot 3 new special parts, and they may have been used before in sets I dont have. One is the platform to lift the cars in the garage, one is for the tow truck main lifting arm, and the other is for the base of the tow truck.

I dont like the dumbing down of the sets by opening individual bags, so you will see I open them all, more fun that way.

The hair on one of the minifgs seems new and also I noticed one has the space motif on his jacket.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 27 Apr 2009 17:03

Nice one Keith. I don't understand why you, and others, empty all the numbered bags into one great pile. Surely building is then much more difficult!

Posted by keithkram in United Kingdom, 27 Apr 2009 17:16

Huw, yes, building it is more difficult, but thats half the fun, I dont find it any fun just sitting there with a few pieces and putting them together, and then doing the same again. Besides, if I am paying all this money for a set, I want the build to feel that its a bit of a challange and not over and done with in a few minutes. I even emptied all the bags for the 10195 before building it.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 27 Apr 2009 17:54

I hate hunting round for pieces, for sets the size of 10195 I sort them into bricks, plates etc. before starting

Posted by jon11380 in United Kingdom, 28 Apr 2009 03:18

I like hunting for the bits makes it more challenging!

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 28 Apr 2009 12:38

Thanks keithkram!
I keep the tiny, technic pieces to one side when building, but sometimes jumble the rest up...

Posted by keithkram in United Kingdom, 28 Apr 2009 14:03

legoguysw, i hope to finsih the set tonight and load some more pictures.

Posted by andypat in United Kingdom, 28 Apr 2009 15:37

Has anyone seen them in leeds toysrus, i want to be sure where they are. i love the bus whith its windows!

Set 7642 - Garage

This link shows all my pictures of this set.

http://keithkram.co.uk/Reviews/7642/7642.html

I was impressed with this set, it was not boring to build and has some nice touches. The lorries do not have doors as the shape of the fron means that they would only be held in with the back to corners of a windscreen.

One complaint about the stickers (I hate stickers and you will see I have not applied them) is that all the vehicles end up having the same vehicle registration mumber, it would not have hurt to have made them different.

Posted by xboard08 in United States, 28 Apr 2009 22:23

I still don't get why they put blue lights on any of these new City vehicles: tow truck, helicopter transport. Blue lights are reserved for police or rescue vehicles in every country I've seen. Definitely going to be changing those to orange.

Posted by andypat in United Kingdom, 01 May 2009 02:38

got the camper at 15 pound. good set

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 01 May 2009 09:39

XBoard- The reason why those "lights" are blue is because the sets are orange. They need them to stick out and blue goes with orange.

Posted by legobagel in United Kingdom, 04 May 2009 05:08

prices on the toys r us website

7638:£8.99

7639:£14.99

7641:£44.99

7642:£64.99

7686:£29.99

8402:£6.99

Posted by Johnny Cogs in United Kingdom, 06 May 2009 08:20

Is anyone else just a little annoyed at the price hikes??? personally, I dont think £6.99 is a very fair price for the sports car..... not when the cop car (similar brick count etc) is only £3.99...... Nevermind the £65 smack in the face for the garage!!!!!...... OUCH!

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 07 May 2009 11:23

The sports car is overpriced, way overpriced. Once again I'm blaming it on the tree.

However the garage you should be happy about, it's a little less than what USA pays.
