Established member of the worldwide LEGO fan community Heather Braaten (HeatherLEGOgirl) is missing. From flickr:

Hi, sorry to bring such startling news but our close friend and   staple of the LEGO community is missing. Her name is Heather Braaten and went by HeatherLEGOgirl here online. A couple of months ago she removed her flickr, facebook, and MOCPages profiles but now her mother has called a fellow LEGO fan this morning stating that she was missing and has been since last Tuesday. Police are on the search but her family would like to know her whereabouts any way possible. Here is a photo of her.

If anyone knows her whereabouts or knows when you contacted her last, please chime in here. And if Heather you are out there, please let us know. You have a lot of people worried about you, honey.

Any knowledge of her well being would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lino, Dave, Stacy, and the rest of the AFOL Community.

P.S. You can contact us here via comments or Flickr mail. [This refers to flickr comments - LCG]

Our thoughts are with her family at this time, and we all hope she is found safe and well.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but what country are we talking about?
EDIT: Thanks, @LegoCity578.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 28 Mar 2012 21:15

My condolences to her family and close friends, and I hope she returns home safely!

Unfortunately, I live completely opposite her position in the contiguous 48, so I can't help. :(

^Me neither, I'm in TN.

Wow, this is some of the most un-LEGO-related news ever... I hope she is found.

Posted by U2A2 in Canada, 28 Mar 2012 22:14

Hi Everybody, as a police officer in Canada, please don't think that there is nothing you can do because of your location. The internet is a very powerful tool when used properly. With the number of people on this site, we cannot begin to count how many connections can be made via other websites and contacts. Keep posting....and have faith, she's out there somewhere.

Posted by (-)-Crushmaster-(-) in United States, 28 Mar 2012 22:20

@U2A2: Sound words. Godspeed!

Posted by mr.bob in United States, 28 Mar 2012 23:44

@U2A2: definitely. We've got a great community here. Even if all we can do is pray for her safe return, that's all she'll need. And, if that famous 'brickset effect' was ever going to be put to good use, it's now. ;)

Posted by romdam in United States, 29 Mar 2012 00:42

I see the story said she got rid of all her online stuff like Facebook profiles and such. Maybe she didn't/doesn't want to be found? Is there any reason to have done that? It just said she got rid of them but would anyone close to her know why? What about the medications. I see it says she may seem disoriented. What is the medication for? I know I feel bad she is missing and if it was my daughter I'd be devasted but if a person doesn't want to be found, they don't want. Maybe some more facts need to be let out so we know what is what. Not to sound like a jerk or anything, it's just certain things were just touched on in the message that if we knew more, might help.

How about Brickset Effect striking here? ;)

My God, terrible news, I hope all is well and Heather show up soon in order to continue enjoying his bright smile.

Come back soon LEGOgirl ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

See You ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

@romdam - I know some people within the community who know Heather very well, are aware of all the facts and are in close contact with Heather's family during this difficult time. I can only suggest that they have listed all the above information after conferring with Heather's family and don't feel that adding any further info such as the queries you raised would assist in finding her.

I hope she is safe and well.

I'm very sorry to hear this, I hope the situation is resolved quickly. Her family will be in my thoughts.

i am in the wrong part of the country, but i have friends out in the Seattle area, so i linked this message over to my Facebook account (i hope that is ok). maybe someone will recognize her. until then, we will add her and her family and friends to our prayers.

Posted by mkoesel in United States, 29 Mar 2012 09:26

@romdam - I completely understand where you are coming from.

It is a tough situation. Obviously we don't have all the details (why did she delete all of her online accounts?), and it is difficult to imagine that such details would not have at least some value as far as trying to track her down. For example, the police (if they are involved or do become involved at some point) will ask for as many details as they can possibly get, many of which are probably not being disclosed publicly. It's essential for them do their jobs. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the need for privacy and to respect an individual's rights. At the same time with only pieces of the story, the online community is somewhat limited in what they can do.

I hope she is found soon, unharmed and safe.

I'm the owner of the Winchester project on CUUSOO (http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/7451) - my page is getting thousands of hits at the moment thanks to a shout-out by Simon Pegg during the Conan O'Brien show last Tuesday. I have posted a link to this page in the project description, I hope it will help.
Sorry if it is a dumb question but I live in Belgium and I don't know the place mentionned there - she was last seen in the "Ballard" Seatle area in the US, that's correct? Please respond, I'll update the message on my page accordingly.

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 29 Mar 2012 11:13

^ Yes, it refers to the USA.

Let's keep speculation down for now please, what are needed are facts.

Posted by Yatkuu in Belgium, 29 Mar 2012 11:15

^ok, I leave it like that then - just post the link to this page.

Guys, i hate to say it but on flickr several people said that she was somewhat depressed and on the poster it said that she was seen with a bottle of medication, so when paired with these two things deleting social media accounts is never a good sign. Although there is another possibility that she was being harassed by someone and deleted her accounts to "get away" from them per say. But remember if we spread the word using the internet then we can easily make this into a full scale digital search, someone get on eurobricks, brickhorizon, FBTB, if you have any blogs then re post the information, I bet if we get the word out then the news will start to take notice, or at least more than the already have.

GG

Edit-i have commented on several eurobricks admins flickr streams in hopes that they will post, If anyone has forum accounts use them.

I've posted to my FB this link when I first saw it over on Brother's Brick. While I'm not Seattle, I am in the Puget Sound Area and am hoping many friends I've got who aren't in the LEGO community may know something.

So I hope and pray for the best. If she needs help. May her family and close friends find her alive and well to get the help.
