    Valid Sunday 4/1 through Saturday 4/7, "All" LEGO sets are Buy One, Get One 50% Off at Toys R Us.  And by "All", Toys R Us is excluding Friends, Star Wars, Ninjago, Technic and Super Heroes.  As always, try to pair sets at similar price points and with the least TRU markup in order to maximize your savings.  Currently, most of the LEGO Direct sets are out of stock but keep checking throughout the week.

Time to tell everyone how much Toys-R-US Sucks and is out to cheat us. Went for their "buy one get one 50% off" (BOGO) on Legos. I was buying Minifigures, signs say $3.49, whichas you all know is marked up from everyone else,but I get to the register, they come up as $3.99. Funny, I bought some just a few days before the sale at $3.49. The lady at the register, saw the signs and changed it to the $3.49 and BOGO. I complained, she said corporate does it all the time. I checked other Lego sets, almost all the ones I check had been marked up from just a week ago. We all know TRU is overpriced on everything as it is, but to advertise and then mark up, that just shows their true colors. I am done with them, even with BOGO.

Does that shed any light on their business practices and strategies?

I'm sure this is not the forum for political ranting. Not every Lego set is marked up. Last BOGO I got 2 Fire Brigades and 2 Grand Emporiums for the same price as Lego.shop...and free shipping. They just put a Lego store here and now Lego.shop now has to charge sales tax (which every American is required to pay whether the web site charges you sales tax or not) Toys r Us was obviously the better deal with the BOGO.

I'm pretty sure "every American" is not required to pay sales tax whether the website charges you or not. States like Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Alaska and New Hampshire don't have sales tax.

As for ToysRUs not marking up every set, that might be true, but it's close enough. Our local TRU doesn't have a single, and I mean single set for less than a 8% markup over MSRP. Most are in the 12-18% markup range. The Star Wars sets are even worse. They range from a 18-26% markup. Of course their B1G1 deals almost always exclude all of their current themed sets (this current deal excludes Star Wars, Super Heroes, Friends and Ninjago).

And I will confirm that they markup almost all of their products in the entire store when they have % off deals. Of course most stores do this. My local grocery chain is very guilty of this. I buy 6 packs of half liter Sunkist for $1.99 all the time. Then they have b1g1 free deals and the price jumps to $3.99 so you pay the exact same price per pack (but you're forced to buy two so it's actually a worse deal).

All that is not to say that you can't find deals when TRU has a B1G1 50 deal, it's just to say that you need to really dig to find them. Most of the time you'll only save when you are buying $150 + sets, most of which are out of stock currently.

I was talking about the states that have sales tax. Next time I'll consult Wikipedia like you did and be more specific. I live in Michigan and even if a website doesn't charge you sales tax you need to keep your receipts and pay the sales tax to the state at the end of the year.

I bought 2 Queen Anne's Revenge and even though it's $5 more than Lego.shop, it was still a good deal with BOGO.

Sorry about my previous post. I didn't mean to be "snippy". It's like when you look at a color and someone corrects you when you say it's tan and they say "actually it's taupe" You understand right?

I totally agree doodlebird - I went to my local TRU to get some of the Series 6 minifigs while they were bogo and I was shocked to see them marked at $3.99! I know sometimes TRU marks them up to $3.50, but $3.99 is outrageous!

pitfall69 is referring to "use tax," which the State of Michigan claims "Use tax of 6 percent must be paid on the total price (including shipping and handling charges) of all taxable items brought into Michigan or purchases by mail from out-of-state retailers. It applies to purchases made in foreign countries as well as other states."

For your Michigan state tax return, you basically need to tally up your "untaxed" purchases, multiply by 0.06 and add that amount to your owed taxes. Personally, the "including shipping and handling charges" part makes me chuckle every time. Insane right?

The main issue on sales tax is who should really get it - the state where it was a) made b) shipped from or c) shipped to? Should there be a split? What's the weighting of such a split? It gets even more convoluted when cities get involved. State governors have been debating this for many years, and they are no closer to a resolution. Frankly, I think the only way it could be resolved is with a national sales tax of some kind.

If Michigan (or any similar state) was ever daft enough to try and enforce this use tax thing, the backlash would be unheard of. This is mostly because the other states (see a and b above) would sue the hell out of Michigan for their cut. Michigan is probably quite happy to just let the law sit as it is and let those who diligently pay their use tax voluntarily continue to do so.

Sorry to get away from the topic. Toys R Us sucks. TB, GE, FB, PS are out of stock - SURPRISE!

With all that said...Yes, I also agree that Toys r Us is a rip off most of the time :)

@Tensor, Michigan isn't "forcing" people to pay their use tax, but on our 1040MI there is a section for "use tax". If you don't have your receipts, you can use the handy chart to figure out what you have to pay based on your income. The use tax form used to be seperate from the 1040MI.

All I was saying is that there ARE deals to be had as long as they are in stock and yes, it is usually for the more expensive sets. I was really mad when TRU changed the price from 2.99 to 3.99 for each minifigure.

I don't see why TRU doesn't do what we do at our store. When we buy alot more than usual of a certain product, the vendor usually gives us a bulk discount. We never mark up our products before a big sale. We will sell a product for 25-30% off our normal retail, but would get 10-15% off our normal wholesale cost.
