LOOKS GREAT! Especially the jester hats :P

Posted by hansolo121 in United States, 10 May 2009 16:36

best power functions yet!

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 10 May 2009 16:42

Not getting it, but a much better value that some other $250 set that came out this year....

However the minifigures are boring, they should have included some of the newer ones they have in the Agents 2.0 sets.

Plus LEGO couldn't cover the battery box a little more?

Posted by FiletOFish67 in United States, 10 May 2009 17:41

^ def agree about the comment regarding the boring minifigs and covering the battery box up.

at $250 I will not get this set.

Posted by legobazooka in United Kingdom, 10 May 2009 17:52

As with any Leog set, if there is something about the design you don't like you can change it. That's what Leog is about isn't it? If they produced perfect models that we all liked all the time that would surely stifle the creativity that Lego is supposed to engender. A real merry go round would have a generator truck and control booth to run it as well as a truck for transporting it, when I get mine I plan to make these accompanying vehicles and add a few more minifigs from other sets as well.

Posted by dragon_teenager in United States, 10 May 2009 17:54

Looks impressive, but it's not really my type of set.

Posted by Republic Commando Sev in United States, 10 May 2009 20:27

So many mini-figures.... I love it, but doubt I'll get it.

Now here's the big question: which would you buy, this or the Dropship?

Posted by Republic Commando Sev in United States, 10 May 2009 20:53

@vezon8764: I would buy the Dropship. I'm thinking the Dropship would be cheaper, because the Carousel has about 3300 pieces (rounding) which would mean it would be at the very lest $300. (The average Lego set is 10 cents a piece, which would be $330, but creator tends to go cheaper).
Then the Power Functions plus the 9 figs might bump up the price.

what...the...
HAHAHAHAHAH
you have got to be kidding me
right?
at $250, i think ill get something else, :)

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 10 May 2009 23:22

Sev. Star Wars is overpriced, you get twice the pieces for the same exact price as stated in the article.

Yes i know we can add pieces to cover the ugly box. However for a $250 set I expect it to be PERFECT.

Posted by jgptee in Singapore, 10 May 2009 23:56

the measurements indicate it is only about 2 inches shorter than cafe corner, so this is huge. i'm not sure about the size of carousels, but if it is called "le grand carousel", it has to be that big?

those gold mirrors on the core of the carousel: are they printed on the bricks, or "LOUSY CHEAP STICKERS"?

[Sniff], the price is giving me a terrible pain on my right forearm and kneecap even though it seems good value for 3000 pieces...maybe I'll just resign to dying of salt deficiency by simply staring mouth-wateringly at this garish heap of bricks...and why does it say this is "not just for show" [but also for playing]? I doubt that anyone looking to buy Lego to 'play' with it is likely to spend $250 on a potentially fatal and mouth-wateringly succulent pile of bricks...If you want to 'play' with Lego you buy a City type set, spending a maximum of $120 on it. If you spend $250 on Lego I think it almost certainly means you are a raving fan of Lego and so blinded by the awesomeness of Lego (which is undeniable) that you don't care about the playability of the thing - you just WANT it...to LOOK at...and HAVE...and so on. So I highly doubt the flashing lights and sounds appeal to the above mentioned collectors of Lego who ARE willing to spend the $250, while at the same time the innocent toddlers who are excited by lights and sounds are NOT equipped with the cash to get this, or for that matter, possess the intellectual capacity to piece together this 3000 piece anomaly.

Posted by legobazooka in United Kingdom, 11 May 2009 05:04

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the anti-sticker police I don't see what the problem is. You have the choice to apply or not apply the stickers and as a counter point I find printed bricks a bit annoying as it the limits where you can uses them. That said I don't like applying stickers across two or more bricks.

Posted by Smallsam99 in United States, 11 May 2009 05:55

Well personally, stickers stink, they are somewhat tacky and will forever leave a sign of their exsistance on the bricks. This set is nice and seems very big but lego is asking way too much money for the sets now in days. I remeber when legos were priced at about $100 average. When is $250 a good price for a Lego?

Posted by clone commander trainrex in United States, 11 May 2009 06:11

It looks awesome but I think the price looks a bit high(not high for the set quality high in general). I would get it if it were closer to $120.

Posted by Dentarthurdent in Australia, 11 May 2009 06:24

Smallsam99 - Whenever and wherever possible, Lego try not to use stickers. They are resorted to only when absolutely necessary (e.g small Ferrari Logo on front etc) or when Lego feel a sticker will add to the appearance/accuracy of the set. They thoroughly research and work on each set with renowned dedication. If you don't like them simply do what legobazooka suggests. Alternatively, eat them. While this will initially give you mild indigestion it will, in the long-term, ensure that the stickers won't bother you any longer. As for the tacky existence on bricks, well, I don't see why you would remove a sticker after having pasted it unless you wish to see this 'tackiness' of which you speak. If they come off of their own accord there is either something terribly wrong with your sticker sticking skills, the temperature around the sticker in question ain't great or the sticker has simply past its glory days. Stickers should stay stuck small Sam.

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 11 May 2009 09:53

I like the newer stickers, they don't dry up and crack off like the older ones. They also don't make the bricks good for only one set. Plus they make LEGO sets cheaper with the stickers.

Posted by Republic Commando Sev in United States, 11 May 2009 10:46

@The Green Brick Giant: How could I of missed that? Gosh, I feel stupid...
Have any of you seen that huge white piece in the middle top of everything? Is it an actual Lego piece? It looks like paper or something to me...
EDIT: Nevermind, I just noticed it said it was made of Canvas.
Sev

Posted by ronbonne in United States, 11 May 2009 11:19

The huge white piece is most likely the same type of canvas used in some of the indy sets.

Posted by Miser22 in United States, 11 May 2009 13:58

This is a great looking set, but the price tag is a downside, and for a carousel? I don't think it's worth the price.

Posted by FiletOFish67 in United States, 11 May 2009 14:12

Dentar's suggestion to eat the stickers made me laugh lol

I'm not a stickers fan either--but sometimes they're ok.

Posted by Mr.Wampa in United States, 11 May 2009 15:53

I knew it would come with Power Functions.

Anyways this is out of my price range.

Posted by BionicleBOOM in United States, 11 May 2009 17:44

Yowza, expensive!

Posted by mvila09 in United States, 11 May 2009 20:44

Wow you get a lot of children and short legs. But it's something I'm not buying.I mean, it looks interesting but it's nearly $300.

Posted by Shamu1Believe in United States, 11 May 2009 21:46

I wanted this set before today when I saw the price. I can't see this set being 250$. I would have to see it in real life to really tell. Even with the power functions I don't see how the price could be so high.

I just toke a longer look at this set and I saw, it is low in details in many places.

Posted by Wolfy 8880 in Australia, 12 May 2009 03:48

Am I right in thinking that's a new 40 by 40 stud baseplate, that we've not seen before?

Posted by miskox in Slovenia, 12 May 2009 04:15

@ Wolfy 8880

It looks like a 48 x 48 green baseplate.

I think it is too expensive. Regardless of a piece count. But it looks great.

Posted by charfdorn in United States, 12 May 2009 11:47

Don't look at the model when you gulp at the price. Look at the 8 jester hats and the 16 golden crystals. And the 48 x 48 baseplate in green. And finally some 1 x 2 x 3 INVERSE slopes in dark red to balance out the Cafe Corner roof in our collections.

Posted by Republic Commando Sev in United States, 12 May 2009 13:05

I counted the studs on the baseplate, and it is a 48x48.
@charfdorn: Don't forget the 8 tan beards, the gold flag, the 9 figs, (four with short legs!) and all the rare Dark Blue pieces! And if you look close, theres a TON of smaller crystals decorating all the horses and swing boats!

Posted by clonepirate in United States, 12 May 2009 20:57

its alot better then a PREVIOUS 250 DOLLAR SET ALSO THIS YEAR
is the x large grey baseplate 32 studs if it is then that means that this set is huuuuuuuge
i wonder how big the box will be
oh sev u said n AVERAGE lego set but dis aint average its awesome

Posted by Republic Commando Sev in United States, 12 May 2009 21:24

@clonepirate: It's been mentioned several times it's 48x48 studs.
Sev

Posted by jgptee in Singapore, 13 May 2009 09:52

when it is released, i will look up videos on youtube to see how the rides move round and round and up and down. :P

Posted by brccoins in United States, 13 May 2009 17:00

I bet it eventually goes on sale.

Posted by nath8888 in United States, 13 May 2009 20:46

249?!?! For us USA people!? WOW thats a lot but I might do it!

Posted by LastStand in Canada, 13 May 2009 23:27

But don't forget, its a better deal than the dropship. It has only 1800 pieces and this has like 3000. Plus it has power functions which is expensive to make and produce.

Posted by xboard08 in United States, 14 May 2009 07:30

I don't see how this is overpriced. People are more than willing to pay for those overpriced Star Wars sets so they can line George Lucas' pockets some more.

Posted by chrisdog121411 in United States, 14 May 2009 19:53

hey guys just so you know every 100 pieces its $10.00 every 1,000 it is $100.00 for some sets in usa

Posted by train_nut in United Arab Emirates, 15 May 2009 02:01

Think about the future! This will be become a 'classic' set. I regret not having the money to buy more metroliners when i was younger. With time and availability this will be sort after set.

Posted by HobbesFan08 in United States, 15 May 2009 20:59

I think the design of this set is amazing. If you look at all the small details its an outstanding masterpiece. Only one regret... Havnt you wished that models like this would be made to a "lego scale" so that carousels areent bigger than trains

Posted by isaacba2001 in Australia, 16 May 2009 20:23

If you look in the japanese catalogue where 'Grand Carousel' was found, go to the power miners section and you
will see the 'Cave crusher' the REAL 'cave crusher!!'

This looks like a great set! IMO, the price is actually fairly cheap (considering a different [coughatotanddropshipcoughcough] $250 set), especially considering:

-The piece count of over 3000
- Many rare pieces
-9 mini-figs
-motor
-sound brick
-carts move up and down

This is definitely on my want list..........
