The LEGO Show: what to see (#legoshow)

  • The LEGO Show: what to see (#legoshow)

Posted by Huw, 05 May 2012 07:11. Filed under Events (UK).

The focus of The LEGO Show is of course all the amazing MOCs that people have come from all over Europe to display, but I thought it worth listing the highlights of the show from the LEGO collectors' point of view, for the benefit of those still to arrive, or those that haven't yet decided whether to come or not!

    • The large Sopwith Camel is on display, along with a 'timeline' of LEGO aircraft from years past.
    • The Lord Of The Rings sets are making their public debut at the event.
    • Adam Vaughan, designer of many of the Friends sets, has brought the sets that will be out in a few month's time.
    • Mark Stafford is displaying the forthcoming Ninjago sets that he designed, along with several prototypes, which are always interesting to see, to better understand the design process.
    • Along with the official LEGO shop that's been set up by the Liverpool store, there are around eight other sellers in the hall, selling everything from loose parts to MISB Market Streets (for £500). There's something for every budget!

There is plenty to see and do and, due to the cavernous size of the hall, it's not too crowded. If you can possibly get here today, tomorrow or Monday, I strongly encourage you to do so. It certainly is the 'biggest and best' LEGO show the UK has ever seen.

Any news on the Olympic minifigs?

Posted by eastlands01 in United Kingdom, 05 May 2012 10:40

My girlfriend and I went there today and we absolutely loved it, loads of sets and lots of things to buy, all at reasonable prices. This is a must for Lego fans.

Just got back and got loads of photos and videos :)

No news on Olympic minifigs though.

Had a great time there today. The lord of the Rings set and Sopwith Camel were superb!

What stores are there?

Posted by gifinim in United Kingdom, 05 May 2012 13:24

Just got back home from the Show with very sore feet. Really really impressed with everything I saw, and the venue is great. The main displays that people have done are fantastic - really inspiring. I managed to do 4 plates of the mosaic before they shut the queue.

The only thing I'll say is shop around - the prices vary wildly between the stands. I picked up a minifig for £1.50 that was £6 at another stand, and the early series collectable minifigs vary massively.

Pics to come!

For those not able to access the forum, Sopwith Camel video footage can be seen here.

what are the crowds like at LLDC while the show is on? bearable? might go on Sun

^ I nipped over at lunch, and the shop was as busy as it always is, but the queue to get into the centre looked a bit smaller. It was a nice day though so maybe people were just enjoying being outside after all the rain!

Arrived home a couple of hours ago after visiting the show today. Got there at about 10.30, no queue to speak of and got straight in to the hall. My little boy and I had a fantastic day and left loaded down with packets of great bricks from the shops. Also had some really interesting conversations with Adam (about Friends drumkits!) and Mark (about exploding Crystal Sweepers...) and bumped into Huw. Thanks very much for the 1x8 Brickset brick - it got built straight in to a homage to the Metallica stadium display by my son. Great to meet so many friendly lego fans, we'll definitely be back next year.

Going on Monday with my partner and the children - can't wait, just hope the shops haven't sold out of all the cool things by then. (or will they restock for each day?) Anyway, really looking forward to seeing all the amazing models :-)

Seriously, £500? That's just taking the pee even from Lego staff...

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 05 May 2012 15:33

^ The staff told me and flump today that they were getting more stock each day.
Had a really good time today chatting to people at the show and, of course, seeing all the incredible mocs.

thanks for keeping us up on the goings on over there.
if i may ask, have you heard anything about new Heroica games, or this Heroica like Star Wars (hoth) game?

^^^^^ The £500 BNIB Market Square is for sale with a private vendor and not LEGO. Even so very over priced in my opinion.

For a sealed one it's a very good price actually based on the rate they sell. Should be more like £850

Had lots of fun at the show today, would recommend it to anyone thinking of going either tomorrow or Monday :) I've uploaded some videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/hutch1081/videos Still adding a couple more right now. Really loved doing my pieces for the mosaic, managed to do 5 could have done more but my nephew got a bit bored by that point :p

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 06 May 2012 04:48

@demon_llama, The Star Wars game is available in the UK and most countries except the US but another company has an exclusive license for SW games in the USA so it will never be available there.

Posted by caperberry in United Kingdom, 06 May 2012 13:09

To Huw's list of "must-see"s I would add that the LEGO brand store had a build table with zillions of red 2x4 bricks on it and nothing else. The kids went mad for it and built amazing stuff: http://www.flickr.com/photos/74778737@N07/7148471017/in/photostream

@Huw. thanks ( bummers ). that's odd, because we do get the star wars legos here. must be that "game license" that Fantasy Flight Games has. crud. guess i will have to go thorough amazon or something to get it.
